Ahhh...breakfast with my mom. So nice. And not just because she pays. Okay it is because she pays. Bread and Butter cafe is a solid breakfast and lunch joint. The restaurant is clean and open with booths, tables and a diner counter top...old timey, not divey. My mom liked that the windows were painted with a cute Halloween theme. Old people. You never know what the selling point is gonna be. I ordered chicken fried steak with country gravy, two eggs over, hash browns and wheat toast. I get the wheat toast because I feel it makes the whole meal healthy, like ordering a diet soda with my super size fries. Magic healthy. My breakfast was legit and I ate every bit. I told our waitress it was horrible though, you know, just to keep her guessing. But she knew. My mom had French toast, bacon, and a glass of tomato juice. She ate everything too. Prices are fair, and service was excellent. Coffee good and refills were on time. I hear the pie is awesome, and the lunch menu looked good too. Bread and Butter, you're a keeper. We ordered lunch. The mediocre lunch was made up for by a delicious cookie dough pie a la mode. I may come back for breakfast, which hopefully receives more effort than their lunches which tasted like canned green beans, boxed mashed potatoes, canned chicken salad, and all entirely unseasoned. Bland and boring. Why the three stars? Clean, friendly, edible if overly plain, and AMAZING pie. Next time I shall plant myself on a bar stool and eat just pie. read more

If you want to know what grease, butter, and oil tastes like, I guess this is your place. Otherwise, don't waste your time. You couldn't taste any of the chicken fried steak between being covered in mediocre at best gravy and and being deep fried. Hash browns were as bland as possible and so were the eggs. I guess the good news is that they can manage to scramble some eggs. The sourdough toast tasted like nothing but oil as well. It may be a bit bright inside but it's also beautiful. It is hard to find a staff as good as this one who are always attentive, friendly and helping each other out in an effort to help you. The food is fresh and just plain good. I haven't had chicken fried steak this tender and fresh in years. One star for the service (which was actually 5-star). The food was disgusting. The biscuits were cold - as was the bacon. The biscuit had been reheated so many times in a microwave that it was brick bard - and still cold. The bacon? Well it was so old that the meat was dried-looking and the grease on it was actually cold and thick on the meat - like after the grease in the frying pan gets cold. Who gets by with serving this food-poisoning-waiting-to happen? I saw a customer there who was obviously going thru chemo treatment. Her immune system was probably very compromised. The food is good the place is clean however I saw the cook touching and placing his bare hands on the food accommodating the food on the plate he was also touching a kitchen rag with the other hand so I told a manager about it that's not right he shouldn't happen also they charge for the salsa $1.19? Folks who have given this place a bad review have obviously not tasted their pie. They bake all their own pies, which are the best I've tasted in Tucson. Coconut cream is sinfully rich, Dutch apple can't be beat. They also have pecan, rhubarb, chocolate cream, peach cobbler- lots more. Come for pie and coffee, but don't miss this place. read more

Not too fond of this place. Just okay, would be the right word. Service is nice and friendly, but for the cost = portion size is a bit small. Nothing fancy, just basic and minimal food. Ordered the French toast and it was made from one of those Sally Hanson white bread ( not allot of excitement ). I came here for lunch not really knowing what I wanted and wasn't really impressed when I left. The menu is American Standards and fairly short, one page for breakfast and one page for lunch/dinner. I had the meatloaf which comes with mashed potatoes and gravy, some corn(just the kernels), and a roll with butter. I ordered Iced tea to drink. It really wasn't much better than a Hungry Man TV dinner. I was still hungry after finishing but the waitress slapped the check down on my table before I could order anything else. The service was pleasant but the cook constantly calling out the waitresses name from the kitchen was annoying, this combined with the bland furniture made for a pretty ho-hum experience. On the plus side the price was ok, the glass of iced tea and meal ran me about $10 before tip. read more

This is the BEST place in Tucson to get a fast, easy simple breakfast or lunch. The service is amazing, the food is amazing and everything about it is awesome. I found this place when my mom came to visit me at school. The service is so friendly and very attentive. They have everything from classic american to mexican style food. I stumbled on this place when I was going to get groceries. Walking in someone greeted me with a happy friendly voice. I was seated right away and the waitress Julie came over and was amazing! I seen somebody complain about the pie but we tried the peach and banana cream and enjoyed both. And the food came incredibly fast but was just sub-par for my palette: got the daily special, Cold Turkey Sandwich, which came non-toasted and with very little turkey. The french fries were the "school cafeteria" skinny variety and the side salad was mostly just a bed of lettuce with tomato and carrot shavings. 1st time I was really annoyed! I ordered the Pecan Pancakes and my wife ordered a chicken salad. She brings two pancakes and tells me "the other pancake will be here in a few minutes." What? Then we get the bill and there's an extra charge on the bill because my wife had asked for chicken strips with the salad, and no mention of extra charges! We came to this little hidden gem during U of A homecoming weekend last week. From the Google reviews, we decided to check it out. Located in a little strip mall, it didn't look fancy. Small place but once we walked in, I loved the homey and inviting energy. It was definitely a mom pop establishment, but the aroma of the food was heavenly. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. I could tell the majority of the customers are locals and I loved the ambience. As for the food.....DELICIOUS! I had French toast, eggs over easy, hash browns and bacon. Everything tasted amazing. Just when I thought I was done, I overheard our waitress ask one of the customers if they wanted a slice of coconut cream pie of pecan pie. I knew I couldn't leave without having a slice; especially since coconut cream pie is my all-time favorite. The slice was big and I could have easily shared it with my husband, but I was being selfish. He ended up getting a slice because he knew I was not going to let him have a bite. Talk about delicious! It was probably the best coconut cream pie I've ever had. All in all, this place is amazing! Much better than the chain restaurants and very reasonable for the amount of food you get. We will definitely be coming back next time we're in the area! read more

Bad experience at Bread and Butter this morning, it was a bit warm when we sat down so we asked our server if it would be possible to prop the door open for some fresh air, she responded oh no it against the law then walked to the kitchen and mentioned our request to the short order cook as she came out of the kitchen an elderly patron commented loud enough for me to hear him "maybe someone should prop his mouth open" then the cook reciprocated yeah maybe he should step into the kitchen for awhile, not only did I find it rude for the old man to comment in such a derogatory manner but for an employee to reinforce such behavior, I was appalled and embarrassed, I stood up walked over to the old mans table looked him in the eye and said if you're going to talk about someone maybe you should do it under your breath, shut up and go sit down, I politely went back to my table and paid for the two iced tea's and tipped our server for her time, and we went elsewhere for breakfast. read more
