One last meal in Arizona before heading home. Emily's dad suggested we go to Jerry Bob's for breakfast but declined to join us since he wasn't feeling like eating out for a morning meal. We hopped in the car and headed out for breakfast! Somehow we ended up at one of the Jerry Bob's across town instead of the one close to her parents. We walked in it and quickly took a seat while a lone waitress serviced the few tables she had. Em and I ordered some coffees and looked over the menus. Nothing on the menu really stood out until we both looked at this whiteboard on the wall behind me that said Breakfast Quesadilla with Beans and Salsa. Both our eyes lit up and that's what we ordered. You can substitute the refried beans with hash browns, which is what I did. And just like that, our quesadillas were out and in front of us. When I saw the waitress bring our plates out, my eyes nearly popped out of my head. These things were not just massive but felt like they needed a second plate to hold them up We dug in and both commented that we could've just ordered one and split it easily. But since we didn't know when we would eat again since we flew out that afternoon, we dug in and ate as much as we could. The salsa and lettuce/tomato topping that came with it, I would open the 'dilla and put them in and maybe that's sacrilege to some but wow... it really kicked up the flavor a few notches. I even had some leftover salsa at the end and ate it by itself. It was some of the best I had and it has this nice little kick to it that let you know its there without hurting. I will say I was thrown off by the interior of this location. The walls had mostly an americana theme going for it but it seemed just randomly placed without much thought. Kinda of like when a diner does the americana theme but this location had a lot of bareness on the walls. But, that's not really here nor there. Just a silly observation on my part. Overall, I am glad Dave recommended this place. The quesadilla held me over until we got home and even then, I felt like I only ate out of it being like 12 hours since I had anything to eat. This is our go to weekend/Friday morning breakfast. Can't go wrong with the basic 2 eggs. Certainly is going down hill. Been going there for several years. Not sure what's happening but got the special pork chops and hash browns. Good price but the pork chops were little tiny things and were so tough you would swear they were jerky only tougher. This saddens me as I really used to like going there. Even condiments are now of the lesser quality. Jelly is off brand. Catsup is the cheep watery type. I'm sure it is tough to make money but to lessen the quality to do it only drives people away. I've been here 2 times now. 1st time order was completely messed up. 2nd time the waitress served us Biscuits and gravy with a fly on it. Food here is great, it may not be as fancy as other breakfast places. But the service and food is good! This place is just a few miles from my house, and to top it off it's right next to Basha's. I was surprised when I pulled in and the parking lot was empty at 12:00. I walked up to the door and thought they were closed! There as only 1 person in the restaurant. Should have left but wanted chicken fried steak. Ordered the steak, navy bean soup. The steak was nothing more than 2 sheets of breading and was pounded so this as not not taste it and barely able to see it. The Navy Bean soup was like eating glue. And all this for only $15.99 plus tax. This was a huge disappointment. I only ate about 1/4 of the steak and none of the soup. This used to be a good place to eat but no more. The food was a chorizo style huevos rancheros, how can you mess that up. Well this place did. I am a fan of mannnny other breakfast spots, but I needed to be close to my son's school. Regretfully, I chose this location. We were seated right away and we got our food right away and it wasn't bad, but THENNNNNNN all of a sudden my friend says, "look above your head to the left" and holy shit balls, a roach was crawling on the black picture near the back right side of the restaurant! I hurried to the other side of the table and alerted the waitress. She smooshed it with a napkin and then she hurried over to the manager to tell her. Needless to say, I was wearing sandals and I was completely uncomfortable so we requested our check and left immediately! They gave us half off our meal and said "they'd like for us to return." Ummmm, NO! If I see live roaches in the front house, I knowwwww the back of the house is infested! Where there is one there are more! Jerry Bob's serves the right type of food in the right environment at the right price. You get exactly what you came for: a cheap and satisfying breakfast with no frills. The service here has been adequate, my coffee always full, and I have always enjoyed my food because I order what I know I will like. Yuck! Haven't been here in years. Decided to give it another chance. First strike was the fine print on our coupon said "Monday through Friday only". Too bad I had left my glasses at home! The prices have gone up a lot and food was terrible. I had a chicken fried steak skillet. There was very little steak. It was mostly grilled onions and horrible whole purple potatoes and gravy. My daughter's toast tasted like it was toasted on a dirty flat top. My wife said her omelette, which looked like a scrambled egg rollup, had no flavor. She also had a giant side you hash browns that were mushy and dry on the inside. We won't be back again. It's just not good food for the $30 we spent. Normally we have a very good meal and service but today was the worst. First when the drinks were delivered that she had no ice in it and we had to ask another waitress for a cup of ice and straws. When our food finally arrived, which was even after another table who was seated after us getting theirs, the order was wrong. I had ordered eggs and bacon but the eggs scrambled with a side of pancakes and a side of grits. What came out was a plate of pancakes with over hard eggs. When she finally brought the plate with scrambled eggs and bacon the plate was just filled with grease. My wife who got the chorizo breakfast had to ask for her flower tortilla and never got her salsa. Waitress never came by to refill ice teas. When we went to go pay we found out that the manager had recently been fired and after getting home today reading on the Jerry Bob's website finding out the two good waitresses were fired. We will never go to this restaurant again if this is how it's going to be it will not last long. read more
