We have dined here during lunch work hours, dinner, celebrations and the food and drinks are always so tasty. We always order several dishes so we have enough to take home! Sometimes I read that people have a problem with this or that and then I get a little skittish on going to a place. One of those places has been Mari Chuy's. The prices ARE a bit higher than other places. And YES they have a different menu. And yes they are a reincarnation of the Fresh Mex place that used to be on 5th St. But these things should not overshadow such an amazing place! Why is it Amazing? Well first the Cilantro Margarita. Second, the Jalapeno Margarita. Third the tasty tasty chips and pico for free on the table. Fourth....or maybe first oh...forget it...just read the review. We started our single meal of the day next door at Un Cork'd for some appetizers and water...then finished our meal here. I ate too much between the two places, but eating too much of these two businesses isn't so bad. Fresh ingredients and all. The service was excellent. Our server Blah blah was friendly, and full of great little tidbits of information. We sat at the very front of the restaurant in the sun to thaw out a little from our time next door. Such a wonderful summer day....if a little blustery. The wide open concepts that these businesses are working with these days is just awesome. Roll up doors give such a fresh feeling to the business. I can't believe that more businesses haven't been doing this before. As I said above, between all of us, Cilantro Margarita, Jalapeno Margarita and add to that my wife ordered the Carne Asada and I ordered up some Nachos with Chicken. I liked my bite of the Carne and REALLY enjoyed my Nachos. These aren't bar nachos where they are loaded with canned beans and guac. Instead it was generously covered with some melted cheese (not cheese sauce) whole beans, pico, and uber fresh made guac! Smooth velvety tasty and wonderful guac. The Sticks complex adds so much color to the Midtown neighborhood, and I think that the brightest spot there has got to be Chuy's! The small and intimate, industrial space is booming with bright colors, music and beautiful personalities that are so incredibly warm and inviting, you can't help but want to stay. All of that is thanks to Chuy and his wife Mari, staples in the Reno food scene and owners who are looking to bring something different to us all. I stopped in for lunch on a nice afternoon. All the doors were up and the breeze was moving through. There's a big blackboard wall by the bar that has all the daily specials, along with the incredible list of house margaritas and other drink options. We started with a salsa sampler, which had a salsa verde, salsa roja, ranchero salsa, guacamole and refried bean dip! The salsa roja, which is made from roasted chile de arbol, was magical. It had a beautiful toasted flavor that was so delicious, I couldn't stop enjoying it. This salsa is common at Mexican restaurants around Reno, but typically has a burnt character to it that's not so pleasant to me. I would come back to eat this salsa alone! I wasn't too hungry at lunch that day, so I went with the ceviche, which was served on a bed of lettuce with tostadas for scooping! The addition of a little Tapatio and I was in heaven! It was the perfect light lunch that I was looking for. While I was eating, I saw a molcajete come out of the kitchen, and that has me coming back ASAP! I've heard rumors of some jalapeno and cilantro margaritas that are as "warm spirited" as the owners, and I can't wait to try them! I'm glad we have people like Mari and Chuy in our community, and I'm excited to see what they do next! read more

This is excellent food. While it's easily the best mexican food in the area, it's also some of the best food, period. We came here for a late-lunch/early-dinner around 3PM and started with a couple of cadillac margaritas (on the rocks of course) which were amazing, not to sweet, and plenty strong. We also had some chips, salsa and guacamole - which were all extremely good. The salsa was fresh and tasty. We decided to share the Molcajete for 2 after it was recommended to us. We were NOT disappointed. It was nothing short of amazing, the chorizo, shrimp, chicken and carne asada were all cooked PERFECTLY. Everything is fresh, I mean just cut up and cooked fresh. No gross salty meat that's been sitting all day. No salt spikes. We literally couldn't get enough of this dish, it's nice and large so you'll have some to take home with you too. We finished up with the flan which was also made just perfectly. It's so good to finally have a quality Mexican restaurant in Reno. Pretty much all other mexican resturaunts in Reno should take a page out of Chuys Mexican Kitchen to see what good, fresh mexican food SHOULD be. read more

The food was good and the margaritas were above average. The biggest downfall was service. We had to keep calling someone over for things like water, our check, and to order. We wanted to get desserts but after sitting for 30 minutes waiting to order a second margarita and not being checked on, we said forget it. Left to go somewhere else who deserved the business. I had heard such great things about this place and we were disappointed. I was very frustrated when we made sure to make a reservation ahead for two and walk in to find them totally non-COVID compliant. Huge groups of people at tables and no space between. This place serves authentic mexican food from what I was told. It is different, and definitely not your typical Mexican American restaurant. I would maybe say it is more simple, fresh, and cleaner? (Like eating clean) My trio party each ordered something different and nothing was greasy, saucy, or cheesy. None of us had piles of mush on the plate. I had the pollo con rojas crema, which was good - not life changing, but regular good. No exciting flavors, not spicy or salty. Even though it had a creamy component, it didn't feel heavy. The portions were fair, not overly huge like many places. I had the flour tortillas with my meal. It was warm and fluffy, not too dense. The complimentary chips and salsa was a tad disappointing because it was on the plain side. Chips were good. I had water with my meal. Cucumber infused water with lemon was what they brought me. Escaped COVID in San Francisco and left for Reno to ride out the SIP. Mari Chuy's was the first restaurant we went to in Reno (and the first restaurant we went to in a long time). We sat outside and ordered the steak nachos and shrimp tacos. It was pretty busy the entire time we were there. The shrimp tacos were AMAZING. I was not expecting much but the flavor of the shrimp was out of this world. Steak nachos were just okay. We ate a ton of the free chips and salsa before our order came and I was dying for a michelada but stopped myself from ordering one. Service was good but difficult to get their attention I think because we were sitting farther away and it looked short staffed due to the restaurant just reopening. Would definitely return for their cocktails and their specal Molcajetes. Love supporting a local family business! read more

I've heard so many good things about this place, have see it all over Instagram, and know they have multple locations in the Reno/Sparks Area. My fiance, friend and I popped in here for a quick lunch on a Friday around 11:30am hoping to kick off Labor Day Weekend with some good food and cocktails!.. We were three of 5 people in the restaurant, the service was very attentive and helpful. This is in a great midtown location, so I understand paying for Location, Location, Location, but we purchased three lunch items, and had a couple adult beverages each and the final bill came to $146.34. Again it was a very clean nice atmosphere, but nearly $50.00 a person for this experience is definitely not worth it. (Nevada Minimum Wage is $10.25). I also have to admit that there was barely any spice and flavor to the Beef Wet Burrito, even with adding the Mari Chuy's Hot Sauce. It tasted more like someone put a steamed potato in the microwave and slopped some water down ketchup on top. Again, the service was great, the location was great, and it is a very nice clean establishment. I don't think I'll ever come back to taste such bland expensive food. read more

Honestly one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. We walked up for dinner on a Saturday night. No one greeted us, there seemed to be no host stand, etc. We thought it was one of those places were you seat yourself, so we sat at an open table. Right away, someone comes to tell us that the table is reserved (no sign) but we could sit outside. It's still fairly temperate outside and they have heaters, so we say okay. We get chips and salsa quickly, but no waitress for another 20 minutes. We're just about to leave when they finally stop and get our order. We should have just left but they assured me that they would take good care of us. They take our order. We don't get food for close to 45 minutes. The sun has set so it's getting really cold and our table. No one will light a heater for us. The manager (?) keeps coming out to talk to a large group of people and complains loudly about all their business. When the food finally comes, it's cold and very disappointing to eat. We ask for the check, pay quickly and leave - barely touching our food. The combo of terrible food and even more terrible service leaves me to write a 1 star review. read more

Cleanliness & Ambiance: Stopped here on our way back to California after road tripping to Idaho. We stumbled on this place by chance and felt instantly at home. The decor was bright, cheerful, modern and CLEAN. It is located in what felt like an up and coming neighborhood with other small businesses surrounding it. While visiting friends who are new to the Reno area, they brought us here for lunch during a weekday afternoon. Being Texas natives- they frequent here often to get their Mexican food fix. We ordered the cucumber jalapeño Margaritas, which are so refreshing and NOT spicy at all. You simply get the flavor from the jalapeño and not the heat. I'm sure you could request extra jalapeño if you wanted more spice. We could drink these all day!! Loved them. I ordered the cheese quesadillas with rice and beans and I thought it was good. We were going to visit another restaurant near by but they were closed. Looking across the way we saw Chuy's and thought we would give them a try. As we walked towards their place the door opened and Chuy himself opened the door and welcomed us in. With a friendly smile we were seated and the chips and salsa were right there, drinks also came soon after. This is a fantastic Mexican restaurant. I don't know if it's my favorite of Reno, but I'll definitely return. What I love most about Chuy's is how unique the food is. They do not serve your average taqueria fare, but rather a creative "hipster" take on Mexican cuisine. The result is very healthy, quality food. The service was flawless. My two friends and I were greeted warmly and promptly brought chips and salsa. The chips were notable in themselves; they were not greasy at all, and perfectly salted. The salsa was very tasty and clearly made-to-order. For appetizers, we ordered the GUACAMOLE, and it was fresh, but nothing special. I thought it lacked acidity. Some lime juice would have made this a star dish. For my main, I ordered the JICAMA TACOS after seeing the hype they'd been getting on Yelp. Personally, I didn't find the dish rave-worthy. It tasted extremely healthy, and was more of a salad than tacos. It was a very satisfying salad, but it wasn't what I was expecting. It's probably the lightest meal on the menu. One of my friends ordered the TACOS DE PESCADO, and they were delicious. The fish was just incredible; it was light, flavorful, and utterly melt-in-your-mouth. Probably some of the best prepared fish I've encountered at a Mexican restaurant in Reno. My other friend ordered the BURRITO DE VERDURAS, and it was extremely satisfying. It was the perfect portion, and the ingredients were very fresh and in the perfect ratios. The plating was beautiful and well! I'll definitely be returning to Chuy's. Finally got in here to see what all the hype is about and we were not disappointed. First let me say that service is a little slow but they are understaffed as many restaurants are currently. Be patient with them. It will be worth it. Despite having just 2 people seating and serving our lunch time dining experience was good. Nice seating. Indoor or outdoor is available. We chose indoor although our visit was a week ago and weather was still warm. If you are thinking about outdoor seating but you're worried you missed the warm days, not to worry, they have heat lamps on the patio for those chilly days and evenings. We loved the colorful decor and artwork. It has a casual, eclectic vibe. We started with the complimentary chips and salas. Very good! Chips are crisp and light, not over salted and they serve them in a paper bag...original! The Pico de gallo was fresh, full of flavor and just the right amount of heat. We alsi both had the raspberry iced tea. Really good. Must be house brewed. The raspberry wasn't overpowering like most mass produced flavored teas. I had the carne asada and my dining partner had the wet burrito. He chose shredded beef as his protien choice. He loved it. Said it is now on his top 5 list at #2. His list is spot on so...#2 is saying something. I had the carne asada. It was flavorful, not dry. The hot salsa served with it is to die for. They really should bottle it. We both loved the presentation and the little guacamole tostada with my meal was a nice touch. This lovely gem of a restaurant is located in midtown in the little shopping and restaurant property across from Shea's. Parking is limited but you should be able to find street parking in the area and the walk is pleasant. We definitely will be back to try more of their menu. We hope you give them a try too. Another local gem!! The owners are the sweetest couple and the employees are always so friendly! The service is reason enough to go and support local, but if that's not enough they have AMAZING food and drinks! The mango margarita has a tajin rim and it doesn't taste syrupy, but definitely the perfect amount of sweet. The tacos are a never fail! My mom got the chicken and they were so good, the meat was marinated with the best flavors and it wasn't dry at all. The al pastor is my favorite taco and my boyfriends favorite is carne asada; you seriously can't go wrong. This was my first time trying a burrito and I asked our servers opinion which led to one of the best burritos I have ever had! The shredded beef with "the works" (aka lettuce, avocado, pico, etc.), and it's only $1 extra! He subbed the red sauce that normally comes with the wet burrito for the green salsa and oh. my. god. SO GOOD! It was spicy and flavorful and all around delicious! The burrito is HUGE, like could get split between three people huge and the shredded beef was so juicy and flavorful and there was a ton of it in the burrito! The owner makes it a point to meet everyone and to make sure they feel like they belong here. Try the halapeno margarita. I know it sounds weird but it's delicious. You wont find the typical tacos, burritos and chimichangas that you are used to and to many people this will feel a bit strange.
