My recent beloved stylist was let go and since then I have been on a search for a new salon. I had to go to four places before I ended up at Maria Ferry. I am SO GLAD I found her! Not only is it conveniently located right around the corner from my apartment but Maria is a brilliant stylist! We have similar hair, so she understands fine styles and what is most complimentary. At first I was a little floored, she really went to town on my layered-bob but now that it's grown out some more I absolutely ADORE it. She really listens, has a great, up-beat attitude and what similar reviewers have mentioned, she is meticulous. She's pricier than what I was paying before for a trim but she is definitely worth it. Maria is wonderful! I moved to Boston a year and a half ago and did some extensive searching to find a salon. Overwhelmed by choices, I decided to just go to the one I walked past every day. I was lucky enough to find Maria. I have gotten every one of my haircuts from her since and she always exceeds my increasingly high expectations. One thing I especially love is that Maria is not daunted by long hair. I was tired of going into places and being pressured to chop more off than I wanted. She knows how to breath new life into my long hair and make me look much more stylish and much less "dirty hippie." I am so happy she opened up a place of her own! I wish her all the success in the world. She clearly loves what she does and that radiates through her new salon and definitely shines through in her work. I found Maria Ferry because I live close by, and was finally willing to part with my hairdresser of 10+ years who lived two states over, where I grew up. I just couldn't make the trek back home any longer. Luck was on my side, Maria and her staff are amazing!! Amazing! I have never had such an incredible and close foil. She has an immeasurable amount of experience under her belt and it shows. Maria is a gem. She's so sweet, such a joy to talk to and really listens to what you want. I'm the type of person who likes a boring cut with a bit of a flare. She listens to me and "takes charge", perceiving that I'm not comfortable with anything dramatic, but enjoy a small change every so often... she always suggests the perfect twist and never makes me feel like I'm pressured into anything. The choice is mine. It's perfect. The quality of her work doesn't compare to anything I've ever experienced in the 10+ years that I have been getting foils and cuts. I would recommend her to any of my friends who do not have a hairstylist, and if my boyfriend could manage to book appointments more than a week in advance, I'm sure he would be going to Maria too :) My only complaint is that she's just too popular! :) I'm not surprised at all that others also appreciate her talent. I've also had Marissa do my hair, and she's just fabulous! She does foils with the same quality as Maria and is also pleasant to chat with. It's lovely to have two high-quality gals to choose from if schedules prevent you from going to one. This is my first yelp review I've ever written, and I was so upset today that I just couldn't not write this. I've been trying to schedule an appointment with Maria for weeks now, and each time she leaves me a voicemail saying she's booked up. I walked down today since I live right down the street and asked her what she had available. She started off by telling me very rudely that she has a STRICT cancellation policy. If I cancel the day before, she has to charge me 100%. I completely understand that, and I've only had to cancel on her once since I've been going to her. I've explained to Maria many times that I have Lyme disease, and I was bedridden for most of 2018. I'm having better days but there are often times I feel sick again and it comes on very suddenly. This happened a few months ago when I had to cancel last minute. I felt terrible canceling the day of, but there was nothing I could do. Lyme disease has been very challenging to live with, and there is no predicting how I'll feel each day. Maria then tells me she has no availability whatsoever until October (I work from home and can make any day and time work and she still said she had nothing available). I told her I guess I'll have to find another salon and she said "I guess so!". It was very obvious she did not want me to come to her salon anymore. I left in tears. This is certainly not a business I would ever want to support again. I understand cancelling affects your business but please learn some compassion, Maria. We are all human. read more

I just have to update since Crystal left the salon and I decided to let Maria (the owner) have a go at my hair. She is fabulous! (Again, I have long, straight and typically easy-to-tame hair). I didn't really have to say much about what I wanted and she cut my hair exactly how I envisioned it...especially how she cut my bangs...and she gives free bang trims! And I was impressed with how Maria (just as I was with Crystal) didn't use any products, but the style was perect. As good as it gets! read more

This salon fits me like a perfect glove. I go here once in a long stretch of time (4 months? I am not sure), and they cut my hair so it looks great for months. Maria has been my hairdresser for many years. She is extremely knowledgeable about hair, coloring etc. I am writing this review as I am undergoing chemotherapy at the moment and had to have my head shaved as my hair was falling out. Maria came in to her salon on her day off to make it as comfortable an experience as possible. Her compassion and great sense of humor made it a great experience for me! Many people feel say that losing your hair can be the most traumatic part of the process. I was indeed nervous. I cannot express how grateful I am to Maria for her compassion and support. My sister came along for support and they joked and said I looked like Sinead O Connor and should skip the hat as I looked so good. This gave me the confidence to be myself. Great cut, personalized service. Just got a fabulous cut here last week. I have somewhat difficult hair; curly/wavy and unpredictable, but can look great with a good cut and styling. I was looking for a new hair stylist closer to home - and more affordable. I have been SO LUCKY to find Marisa at Maria Ferry Salon. She makes great recommendations, and I always walk out of the salon feeling great. I have long, brown, blah-color hair. She's turned my lackluster brown into a rich color that screams "surfer girl with sun-kissed highlights." Not only that, but the whole experience is pleasant. She's down-to-earth, funny, stress-free, and just plain nice. Her positive energy carries through, and you find yourself feeling beautiful on the inside and out. Maria Ferry Salon is right around the corner from me, I walked by it for years till I finally became a client. I see Emily and she's amazing! I first saw her in February 2014 and I will not go anywhere else, I made the mistake of trying the Dellaria in Davis Sq and tried to instruct the stylist on what Emily had styled for me and there's no comparison, I learned my lesson. I always receive at least one compliment within 24 hours after seeing Emily, this has never happened when any of my previous hair stylists. Everyone at the salon is super friendly and I always leave more refreshed than when I walk in, Emily listens to what I want and is extremely talented. I've been meaning to write a review for a while but always forgot to. I remembered tonight because I had called yesterday and left a voice mail, I forgot to leave a call back number, and when I called today Emily had already penciled me in for one of the time slots I requested and I'm so very grateful. Maria is a VERY UNPROFESSIONAL hairstylist!!! I was SHOCKED after my appointment and will NEVER GO BACK to her salon ever again. I DON"T RECOMMEND anyone going there either. I had the WORST experience ever and it was one of the most important days of my life. I came to Maria on a very special day for me and told her that and made it clear that I needed a nice haircut and most importantly, a great blow-dry/style that would last for the day. She gave me a very mediocre haircut and then passed me to someone else for a blow dry. At first, I thought she was sending me to someone else just to get prepared before she would blow dry my hair and style it, but I was mistaken. Before I even realized it, my blow dry was over with an awful "style" by someone other than Maria (and notice that I made an appointment with her and not someone else). When I got out, my hair became messy and the "blow dry/style" was gone (notice that I asked her to give me a lasting style). If I hadn't been to hair salons before, I would have thought that this is how it's supposed to be, but I know better and I will NEVER go back to such an unprofessional person who absolutely doesn't care about you and only cares about making money! read more

I had long been a barber shop guy, but after going to see Maria, I don't see myself ever going back. Many salons treat men's haircuts the same as a barber, so I never saw the additional benefit for the extra money. She takes additional care, thinning, fading, chunking to perfection. When I walk out of Maria's salon, people say I look like David Beckham! Just kidding, but I like how I look. Also, I have never had to "grow into" a cut, where you look dumb for a week or so, before your hair looks alright again. Also, she is hilarious and a pleasure to chat with. After 6 years with the same stylist in Connecticut, I decided to give Maria Ferry a try for my first haircut in MA. I went in with a healthy head of overgrown hair and asked for a trim. What I left with, was easily one of the worst haircuts I've ever had. The "trim" left me with a hairstyle somewhere out of High School Musical. While Maria is super nice and as pleasant as stylists get, my hair has been impossible to maintain and is growing up into something that not so loosely resembles a mullet! One of my girlfriends has been raving about Maria for years. When I found out Maria opened a new salon in Teele Square, I made an appointment for a cut and color. Needless to say, I loved Maria and the cut and color! My new layers fall perfectly and fram my face well and Maria took the time to explain her techniques, etc. While I waited for the color to set, Maria gave me a piping hot cup of coffee, a biscotti and a magazine. Came here last week for a haircut after reading the reviews and was really pleased. Maria was very sweet and did a fabulous job with my hair. The place is really small and there are only 2-3 stylists working at a time so I would suggest making an appointment, but this also lends itself to a more intimate experience and I felt like she was really concentrating on me.
