We were looking for place to sit down out of the sun, so after driving by this restaurant a few days, we decided to check it out. We're from San Diego, so finding Mexican food on anybody the islands that measures up to places back home is not easy. Mariachi's was surprisingly good. The beef taquitos were crisp - almost like lumpia, and we enjoyed them. Guacamole was just average. The nachos were also really good - the chips were the highlight. Flour tortillas, freshly made and they stayed crispy even under all the toppings. Nice balance of cheese, meat and beans. I don't know if the salsa was homemade but it was good. Cheese quesadilla for our picky daughter was just average, but not sure how you can make a plain cheese quesadilla exciting, so it was ok. The location is right off the busy street and our view was passing cars, but the restaurant was large and roomy with lots of big windows. Service was quick and friendly. Prices were average. Everything on Kauai is higher priced than the other islands, so no surprises. Didn't try the cocktails but if we go back we'll check out the margaritas - they had a nice variety. read more

We were looking for something different for lunch while in Kapa'a and thought that we would try Mariachi's (which we had driven by many times in the past). It has a nice open air dining room, though it faces the sometimes busy main street. My bf is Mexican, this was by far the most tasteless Mexican food we have ever had! It was very overpriced even by Hawaii standards, but we frequently dine out when not on vacation, so we understand price points vary. But $28 for a 2 taco plate, anyway we got passed that and ordered, what a mistake! The salsa taste like canned tomato sauce with some chopped onions, again no mexican flavor. The $28 burrito wash tasteless, and I made the mistake of ordering guacamole, yet again, no flavor of lime or cilantro and a very tiny portion (about 1/2 of a small avocado for $8.00. I've eaten here once and also done a take-out, and the Mexican food overall isn't too bad. Not the biggest portions compared to other places I've been to in the past, and it's also rather pricey for what you end up getting. The Chile Rellenos were 2 1/2 inches each, no joke. $20?! for the plate. And the rice is not authentic. Can't go wrong with the beans... If you want more chips and salsa, they'll charge you. The salsa was just plain red sauce with bits of onions. No flavor. Their tomatillo sauce, I'll give them credit for that. It's good. You're better off eating from a food truck around here. Raza!!! this one was over before it even began. I had high hopes as everyone working the FOH was actually speaking Spanish. We had just eaten dinner at our house but i had an Uber eats voucher burning a hole in my pocket so we decided to get dessert from this place. We got fried ice cream, churros, flan, and horchata. The only way we could have been even more disappointed was if we actually paid for all this stuff. The ice cream batter tasted just weird and it was super soggy. I won't fault it for being soggy as it was probably sitting for longer than it should have. But the taste was off and the ice cream was standard store bought. The churros were the laziest excuse for a "churro" I have ever seen. It's not hard to pipe churro batter into hot oil. All you need is the right tip. They couldn't even pick that up. These were fried tubes with cinnamon sugar. Terrible texture and eating experience. No bueno. The flan was OK but it definitely looked prepackaged. I'd be extremely shocked if they actually made it in house. The horchata also tasted like it was from a powder packet and it was overly sweet. Although we only took a couple bites out of everything we got, we were still upset that we used up the rest of our allocated calories for the day on this sad sad dessert. I live on Kaua'i. I had an unpleasant experience at mariachis in the past and thought I would try it again. I got my food and started to eat. I then saw something in my Chilli Relleno. It looked like paper..yucky. I waited for a server to look but after 5 minutes I called someone over. I told her that I had found paper in my food. She looked at me like..BS. I'm used to attitude on Kaua'i so I said to her. "I am not trying to get a deal but there's crap in my food that shouldn't be there." I assumed a manager..a waiter or even a waitress would come over. No such luck. So I got my bill..full amount..and paid it. But on the way out I got to speak with the manager..and she told me that, along with saying I would pay the whole amount (true) that I had said I didn't want to speak with a manager (lie) and she explained that Chilli Rellenos come wrapped in paper (you don't do that if you make them fresh do you?) and I think she just shrugged her shoulders regarding the foreign matter my food. As I was walking out after paying she seemed to realize that we had not only had horrible service we had stuff in our food that didn't belong there. At that point I had paid and was walking out and was over it. The staff could have done something but decided not to. Was it toilet paper, paper off the floor, out of the trash? If they had communicated at least I would know if they put some sort of garbage in my food. I still want to know what they gave me to eat! read more

Just stopped in here for the happy hour beers. You gat a nice large beer for $3. How can ya go wrong? Although I didn't eat here, the food coming out of the kitchen sure looked and smelled good. But the food just didn't match up to what we are used to eating for a typical Mexican restaurant. Started off our lunch with chips and salsa. This was just normal, salsa was bland. I ordered Tacos Dorados with beans and rice. The tacos were on the small side and you can only mix and match your taco meat choice if you order the combination plate. I would say the best part of the plate was the crunchy taco shells. It ended up being a pricey lunch for the three of us, even with no beverages - close to $80.
