Stopped here for breakfast. Everyone ordered breakfast burritos and shared how amazing they were- I got the chilaquiles with tomatillo. As Kauai residents, we're used to subpar food and price gouging but the limit has been reached - $4 for a 1.5oz-ish sour cream, $28 for mediocre street (meaning miniature) tacos and $13 for a virgin lava flow?! To top it off, 2 of our orders were messed up. One of them twice. Having to ask for lime wedges, napkins and silverware was just the cherry on the top of the cake one simply can't even fathom. But maybe we should be happy there wasn't a surcharge for those? Not so busy night but special for some since it was Valentine's so you'd think they'd try extra. Sadly - nope! Came in for breakfast on a whim.. had low expectations based solely on the number of stars I saw on Yelp but they are wrong. This place has an amazing breakfast! We tried the breakfast burrito with ham(don't skip the homemade enchilada sauce on this), juevos rancheros, and both chilaquiles(one with al pastor and a regular) so we could experience the green & red sauce. Both were equally tasty. To top it off we had mimosas which didn't disappoint. I lived in Texas for 8 years and this is my favorite kind of breakfast and it did not disappoint! read more

Definitely had better from some of the Mexican food trucks in Kauai. I ordered enchiladas and my sister and cousin ordered tacos. Nothing too special to write home about , we enjoyed the guacamole and chips and the pitcher of beer we ordered. But the food was lacking on flavor it didn't impress us. Not sure if I'd go back, rather try a food truck. The service here was also kinda slow took a bit for a waiter to come and talk to us at first. This place is for real!!! The crispy hard shell tacos are just like my mamas. The salsa is spicy and great flavor. Margaritas are on point with lots of tequila but enjoyable! The view is truly unbelievable, there's a bunch a TVs for sports, and you get the open air lifestyle. But the food is just simply some of worst. I had the carne chimichanga - I will see the entire inside was carne which was pretty unprecedented and impressive, but they overcook the meats straight to hell. Tortilla was meh and pretty dry, fixins basic AF. Not how a chimichanga is supposed to look. Wifey had the crab enchilada which was whatever too. So good much good food on Kauai. Came here for the first time with my friend. We ordered the Carne Asada fries (sooo good) and the taquitos (borderline ok) appetizer. The guacamole and sour cream added a nice touch to the flavors of each dish. For drinks, we ordered the li hing mui margarita and the "Make Me Happy" margarita which is pretty strong and kinda got me buzzin small kine lol. We came to eat light and drink while watching the UFC fight before taking on the streets where there had a mini block party. The staff are friendly and fast even when the place was packed. Street parking was horrendous. Overall I thought this place did a good job taking care of us because I was worried when I saw all the bad reviews on YELP lol. read more

Ok, just an update... stayed in Kapaa for a week and the husband insisted we eat here 4 times for either lunch or dinner. The food was great, fresh and well prepared. Service was super friendly, and they brought out chips with our drinks. Husband finally found a mole sauce he loved. He had both the chicken mole plate, and the on a different visit the mole enchiladas with chicken and he said both options were fantastic. I even slipped in a bite of the mole and it was dark, rich, and spicy, everything you could want in a mole sauce! We both ordered crispy tacos on several visits in either shredded beef or shredded chicken and both options were fantastic. Salsa has great flavor and we kept asking for more. We had such a wonderful experience and can't wait to come back again! read more

First came the margaritas, on the rocks, no special tequila, but we couldn't taste the tequila, and after a few more sips, we decided, it must've been watered-down, and we ordered a shot to split make and topped off our drinks to make it drinkable... we were hot. The menu looked, encouraging, a lot of variety, and even before I ordered, I discussed the Chile Riano's with the waitress, and said, are they really good? Of course, she said "yes". We started out with the "local caught" Seabass ceviche, the price was as expected, and it was a lot for two people and delicious. They even made my husband huevos rancheros, even though breakfast time had passed. We appreciated the extra step. Then came my Chile Relleno w/refried beans and rice, the plate was very hot, but when I cut into it, it was just warm, the "cheese" was not melting from it, there was a granular yellow stuffing, and it had very little flavor. This was not melted cheese. When the waitress returned, I said "this is not cheese", showing her my fork, "what is this?" She said it was "a combination of cheddar and mozzarella". (We noticed in the past few days on the island, when foods were served with cheese, there was never any Monterey Jack (white cheese) on hamburgers, or in quesadillas, for example. So, the cheddar cheese in lieu of others made sense (though we have not figured out the cheddar cheese mystery as of yet). I tried to keep it light with the waitress, telling her that they didn't even serve yellow cheese in Mexico, it was either queso or Monterey Jack. She shared the fact that "this is not Mexico", and I said I know that, but in California and other states, unless you ask for some other kind of cheese, a Chile Relleno usually comes with white, melted cheese, but the stuff inside my Chile Relleno was weird and granular. I told her I would pay for everything else, but not my meal, which was inedible, even the refried beans were dry. I wasn't gonna tell her about the margaritas, but she became confrontational and made a tourist comment, so I said, even the drinks seem to be watered down, we had to order more tequila, just to make it taste like something. I told her that they WERE a "Mexican" restaurant, and maybe there is a reason that this place was not crowded at all, but "Kountry Kitchen gets lines out the door". Maybe they should listen to the customers. She said, maybe next time you should go down to "Kountry kitchen". She was a nice girl up to that point, but I just don't like paying these high prices and get taken advantage of, and disparaged because I am a "tourist". I've been coming to the island for over 30 years, I feel like this is my second home, and if no one ever speaks up, then things won't improve. They refunded me for the Chile Relleno. I wrote this to give everyone a warning, try a different Mexican restaurant, these people do not care, they must be making a lot of money from bar drinks. The restaurant was practically empty and there were more people at the bar at lunchtime than sitting at the tables. read more

On our trip around this side of the island, we chose this little Mexican restaurant to try. The staff was extremely friendly and fast! Was nice to sit by the window and watch the street traffic go by and plan the rest of day. Had a couple drinks a beer, and margaritas blended which my wife said was amazing! Then we just shared chicken nachos (with jalapeños on the side to save my wife) however they were really good! Layered nicely so u always had a great bite, the chicken was big pulled pieces with great flavor! The rolled tacos are my wife thing so I'll give them more a pass as I never find them to overwhelming anywhere. However they had a great crunch and amazing presentation. Please be cautious when visiting this place. They do not like tourists and I have heard more than one instance of them trying to extort tourists for money (employees threatening to call the police over false accusations, etc). On top of that, the service was extremely slow (unless you were a local they knew) and the food was just okay. Our server was a sweet & polite girl. The view of the main street while dining is fun. We ordered their:- Mai tai- ok ok Virgin Mojito- The drink was so refreshing & tasty. I enjoyed it. Guacamole dip- It cam with chips & salsa. The guac had a particular taste which I did not like. They refill the chips only once. Veggie Fajitas- It comes with fajita mix on hot plate, rice, beans, guac, salsa & 3 small tortilla corn or flour. Nothing over the top, I would say average. Came here to watch the Superbowl. It turned out to be a good place to do that. The meal started with chips and salsa. The chips were OK. They were fresh, but not shockingly flavorful. The salsa was unmemorable. I ordered the wings, since I was there to watch football. The wings were big. They had a slightly soggy battering. But, overall the meat was well executed.
