As much as I love the staff there, I ordered to-go (during these COVID-19 times) and when we received our order, I asked to order chips and salsa since I didn't see that in there and was told it was in there. So I decided to believe him and go home with our dinners. When we got home, there were only salsa and no chips. So irritated! Then, I opened up my meal (Shrimp Taco Salad with NO Avacado) which I had explained to the guy that I am sorry, I just really don't like avocado... and when I got home, there was 1/3 avocado in the small salad and 1/4 sour cream and most of the salad and shrimp was against both of them, squeezed between instead of on top (which would have been a lot easier to just remove by hand; and I wouldn't have been so upset). After I pulled out the avocado and cleaned the shrimp that touched it (I know, it is weird but I requested it this way and was not obliged), my salad literally looked like 1/2 of a house salad at a general restaurant. Very disappointed. Still hungry and spent over $60 there and tipped them!! I even bought a margarita! I wish I could get my meal 1/2 off or something. I really don't think I will go there anymore. The food is far too overpriced to be making simple mistakes like this. read more

Fun and welcoming Mexican restaurant with good customer service. Food and drinks were alright. Ordered their fajitas with added rice and beans plates which tasted fine. Staff was nice and courteous. If I could give a ZERO I would. This place is horrible. The food is bland and no taste. Ordered nachos with Shredded Beef and there was very little meat. the beans were overwhelming and blah. Soggy with no taste. I spend a lot of money here on the island and I expect good food to go with the expense. Well not at this place, please don't waste your money. There are other Mexican food options, choose them and don't waste your money. If you cant do it right, then don't do it. I didnt even take the taste the rice and beans that came with the burrito, I threw it away. Had a 6:30 reservation and when we arrived the only table available was in the way back next to a construction zone with caution tape. It had a strong chemical smell so we asked for another table, they said another party was leaving soon, so we decided to wait. 45 mins later and no table. We decided to leave and went down the road to another Mexican restaurant, Paco's Tacos, had a great experience there, awesome service. Stay away! Any restaurant that can screw up a basic hamburger should be avoided. The bun was stale, the meat tasted like it was steamed rather than grilled. No char, no flavor. The "caramelized onions" were barely cooked. My friends had the fajitas which looked slightly better but still pathetic compared to other Mexican restaurants I've been to. The final insult was the worst top shelf Margarita I've ever had. I won't be coming back or recommending this place to anybody. read more

I don't know... I wanted to like this place despite the reviews... but I agree with most of the posts. The place is really cute... actually reminded us of of the bars we love in Mexico. We walked in and got a table by the big open windows. We were brought menus and chips and salsa. Looking at the menu we were blow away by the prices... $19 for chicken fajitas... ugh. No. So we ordered so cheese queso with chips and a pitcher of strawberry daiquiris. The pitcher was a good size... about 5 1/2 glasses worth... and we're actually quite yummy... BUT we were told it was $25 and turned out to be $36. We were irritated because no one cared that they messed up the pricing that much. The cheese was good but it wasn't very much. When we ordered the cheese and drinks and said that was all we wanted (no entrees) they seemed irritated and not happy, but geeze... we still spent over $50!!!! If you're on a budget - review the menu and the prices and decided, before you head out, if this restaurant is within your budget. C. worst mexican restaurant on kauai. do not go here unless you expect to be disappointed. i hope this place either fixes there quality or it runs out of business. they're extremely over priced. id understand if there food was top notch but its not. quality is horrible and they're meals get smaller everytime i come in. The food here is good. Last time we just had the steak fries which were pretty filling. Previously I've had the spinach Enchilada and the seafood enchilada. Both were very tasty. I like the verde sauce the best. The bring out chips and salsa compliments of the house. It is one of the few places in Kapaa open that serves cocktails, wine and beer. Save yourself the disappointment. My wife and I stopped for lunch and our waiter was fine although very young and inexperienced as a waiter staff. The cheese dip was poor at best and tasted like it was from a can. Next we order (2) tacos and a 16 ounce draft each. Both the Mahi Mahi and Octopus tacos were sub standard. I know, at this point you are thinking who goes to Hawaii and visits a Mexican restaurant? This was meant to be a quick happy hour snack. The bill for 2 drafts, 4 tacos, cheese dip totaled $76.41. I would expect to $30 max in California, maybe $40+ in Kauai, HI but not $76.41 for extremely poor quality food and not much better service. read more

Man, am I glad I didn't read some of these reviews beforehand, cause I would have missed out on some of the best Mexican I've ever had. Blended mango margarita was delicious, made with real mango purée. Mole enchiladas were to die for. Just the right blend of spicy with a kick of sweet. Even my mother who notoriously dislikes Mexican food enjoyed her dish. If there was a downside it was that the chips and salsa were kind of blah. Awesome Mexican food, on Kaua`i of all places. We passed this place a couple of times while in town and decided to try it out. It had a World Cup game on that we were interested in catching the end of so we got a table for our family of 5. It was a fun place to watch the game and we were greeted right away. Staff was good but the menu prices were too high for us to have lunch so we just ordered carne asada fries and ground beef nachos to share with waters. With tax and tip our bill came out to just over $50. If we had ordered lunch it would have easily been a $125-$150 lunch. That's just not our family's style so for that reason we would not strongly recommend this place. Super burrito is $30. read more

We came into town for breakfast, and my husband wanted to try this restaurant as we have driven past it for years of coming to the island. We were welcomed with a nice greeting and promptly seated, as it was 10:30 on a Wednesday in January. We asked for coffee and Rosy brought us a taste first, as they put cinnamon in it. We liked it, so she kept our cups full. If you have read any of my other reviews you'll know that I always check out the bathroom first thing. I went down a long, pleasantly painted hallway out to the back and found the restroom clean and stocked with all necessities. Back to the food...I ordered the Enmanadas, which are mole enchiladas, with 2 fried eggs and black beans. They were definitely a very sweet mole sauce. My husband had the meat lovers omelet, which was also good, but I tasted a sweetness to it too. I think they put some nutmeg in it, which was a little odd for Mexican. My favorite thing was the salsa, which I literally could have drank! We asked for chips and salsa, even though it was breakfast, and that was great. Fresh chips and again, loved the salsa. Our bill for 2 was $34.55. No alcohol. Decent for Kauai, but not great. The seating is open air and breezy, but noisy on the main road. read more

We went Mariachis this Monday, and I have a lot to say. As we walked in we were immediately seated, we ordered our food, which included a veggie burrito, fish tacos, chicken nuggets, wings and fries. We waited almost 2 hours and it was not worth it. The chips and salsa was undercooked. The service was terrible, and it had an America ambiance more than a Mexican. The staff was rude, except for one man , who was extremely helpful. To start the fish tacos was bland, and had to be seasoned 2/10. The veggie burrito was only corn and cheese and no real ingredients such as beans and lettuce 3/10. The nuggets were average being one of the only decent things in the kids menu, but was a very small portion for the price that was paid 6/10. The fries were pretty good, being consistent in crunch and was a good portion 7/10. The wings which was my main dish were over cooked and barely had meat at all. I should mention that we came before a family of six, we being only three people, they got there food first! Came here for lunch as it was convinently located near our resort. When we arrived at 1130 am it wasn't too busy and we were quickly seated. If possible, I would recommend sitting at a table by the windows to get in some breeze and people watching. Definitely the best seats in the house! Service was fast and our waitress friendly. We opted to get a pitcher of house margarita to share between 4 people-- it served about 6 drinks total and was decent, but nothing spectacular. They also serve complimentary chips and salsa which was pretty tasty. For my main, I got the seafood enchiladas, as they were recommended by our server. It was good quality but again nothing to rave about. And at $20 is what I would expect to pay on the island for the quality of food. On vacation on Kauai, there were 5 of us for dinner in Kapaa. From the time we arrived, we were treated poorly. We were told we couldn't sit at certain tables because they were reserved, and yet, people never actually showed up. But, we were seated and the waitress was annoyed that we wanted chips and salsa and that we needed extra time to decide what we wanted. Two of us ordered a Mai tai, which was the worst we've ever had. The food was just passable. When the bill arrived, we asked for one of the drinks to be removed from the bill. The waitress said she would have to ask the owner. Next, the owner came to the table and said she would not remove the drink from the bill. She said "you ordered an alcoholic beverage, you know what they taste like!! " I said, I know what they taste like when they're made correctly, this isn't, made correctly. She repeated that she would do nothing. I then told her I would not be returning, to which she replied " good, I no like people like you in my restaurant anyway, I don't want you to ever come back!" This is a vacation area! I have never been treated so poorly in a restaurant or any business for that matter! Looked like great casual place for a drink and small meal. My party of four startes off with the "make me happy" margaritas and some tacos the tacos were ok. BUT!!! We all agreed that the margaritas may have actually had some tequila in them. We inquired the waitress as to just what the $13 premium drink entailed. She said that it had one ounce of tequila and FRESH lime juice and a splash of triple sec. Result was a VERY disappointing margaritas. Lesson is: buy beer instead. read more

So the food and service was great. The setting was very cool. It had a great feel to the place. We loved the colors and Mexican theme was very well done. They also had 22/24 oz. drafts, which is awesome. The only thing that killed the great Mexican restaurant vibe, was the choice of music the bartenders were playing.. Air Supply?! They kept playing old 70's, 80's love and romance songs that just killed the Mexican restaurant vibe. It just didn't mix well.. it was weird. Plus they had an NFL game on and surfing on another TV, which is okay... but still the love and romance songs just do not mix well with Mexican restaurants, let alone surfing and NFL games. We were looking for something different for lunch while in Kapa'a and thought that we would try Mariachi's (which we had driven by many times in the past). It has a nice open air dining room, though it faces the sometimes busy main street. The food was your average Mexican food with lots of rice and beans, but nothing stands out, except the chickens roaming the dinning room. read more

We stumbled upon this place on a Sunday morning (approximately 10 am) while driving through town. We were told we could order breakfast or lunch. My husband started with a Bloody Mary, which was delicious. I ended up ordering one because I liked his so much. Lots of flavor and had a nice bite to it. I'm sure one could order it spicier if desired. We both would recommend their Bloody Marys! We both enjoyed our meals and would order them again. He got the Breakfast Burrito with chorizo and verde sauce and I ordered the bean and cheese tostada. His burrito was huge and was seasoned perfectly. Our server was very attentive and friendly.
