Number 5 lunch special and Tortilla Soup

Great little place about 6 miles outside of AC. If you don't want to fight to find a parking spot or don't want to walk a mile into the casinos in AC for a Mexican meal this is a great alternative. Food was fresh and flavorful. Good portions and reasonable prices. My only complaint is my Chicken Tortilla Soup had noodles in it which was weird and kind of through off the traditional taste I was hoping for.

Ok so I'm not saying that the place is much to look at, because it isn't... it's nondescript at best. Who cares. The food. Is. Awesome. Seriously. Super authentic, startlingly large portions, full of flavor. Tons of options. Be sure to keep an eye on the wall for specials (like the posole!) Standouts so far (and I've been there a bunch lately) are the el pastor burritos, the Chile relleno, and pretty much anything in their salsa verde. They're closed on Saturdays, which is odd, but whatever, who cares, get there when you can, it's totally worth a visit

Great local spot in Absecon to go to. Food is very authentic and reasonable in price. We had the chicken nachos, el rancho salad and steak tacos ... Oh and two "Mexican Coke"s . Very good

Great steak burrito. I would loved to have sour cream not available. Not a big deal even though I'm writing about it. Rice was very. Beans okay.

I have to say, my Mariachi's experience differed dramatically from Lucas T.'s, with whose opinions I typically end up concurring. Mariachi's is not the best Mexican in South Jersey (you need to go to Hammonton for that), but it is definitely the best between Atlantic City and Hammonton. I've been bugging boyfriend to take me here for months, but of course he'd been dragging his feet: "It's too ethnic" (whatever that even means), "I don't want anything heavy" (says the man who ate a hot dog, cheeseburger, mac & cheese, beans, corn, and salad last night), blah blah blah. I finally nagged so much, he wore down and took me here on a Saturday night. The place was empty save another couple, which I like. Too many palefaces equals non-authentic food! We ordered chicken nachos to start. I chose chile rellenos for my main, and boyfriend had (shocking!) chicken tacos. I was also in dire need of guacamole. The tortillas and salsa served beforehand were yummy and fresh, but nothing in comparison to the rest of the meal. The nachos were out of control: flavorful and amply topped. Read: no naked chips! It was a crazy big portion that we couldn't even dent. My chile was huge as well and stuffed with unbelievably delicious cheese and beans, topped with more heavenly cheese in an incredibly decadent and tasty sauce. The cilantro inside and on top was bracingly fresh and really just stupid good. I didn't try boyfriend's chicken tacos, but he said they were excellent. They were appropriately garnished with onion and cilantro, but also provided tomato and lettuce on the side. Rice and beans were complementary and tasty as well, but again, the main proteins were the stars of the show. Guacamole was not the best I've had, but still delicious. We got a metric ton of food and two days of leftovers for around $40. I'd say that's a pretty good deal! Service was a little slow, which is par for the course in a Mexican joint, but definitely didn't detract from the enjoyable exprience. Our waitress was very sweet and helpful and didn't appear to mind our repeated requests for boxes. We will definitely come back next time the craving for Mexican hits!

There were several Mexican restaurants to choose from and many had great Yelp reviews. After careful consideration .... Tacos El Tio was our pick and so glad it was! What a gem. And they have a full liquor license with tons of great drinks, especially if you're looking for a margarita! I opted for a nice Mandarin Jarritos soda -- i was just in the mood. They also have screens with sporting events on + an area with a full bar to hang. They have booths and areas for large tables too - so it's great for the whole family or a nice date night. My husband loved his steak fajitas and could not stop raving about them. He loved them! I ordered the chicken fajita enchilada..and it was ginormous - - you could make two meals out of it! Sorry I dont have more photos - - we were hungry! :) And I cannot forget our awesome server, Jose! He was a super nice server and loved that he was from Ecuador - - where we recently traveled! We will definitely be back. I just made your Mexican restaurant selection for Egg Harbor Township easy!

A fun time at Egg Harbor's second-best Mexican restaurant…read more If you look at Yelp, you'll see there's another Mexican restaurant that has a slightly better rating than Tacos El Tio. HOWEVER, that other place is BYOB, and if you want to have an alcoholic beverage, for example, a margarita, you'll need to bring your own tequila. Tacos El Tio is a full-service Mexican restaurant that offers well-crafted beverages alongside delicious food. Now, to the specifics... TET has lots of parking. The inside is large, clean, and offers plenty of comfortable seating. You might prefer a table or booth that's on the far side of the dining room, well away from the bar area with its speakers and any loud conversations. Our server, Julie, was attentive, efficient, and delightful. They offer a range of margaritas, from specialty concoctions to their margaritas-on-tap. The on-tap version is about half the cost of the concocted version and, in my opinion, a far better value. As for food, all we tried, all we had to try, was their Los Nachos El Tio. That was a plate, heaped high with corn tortillas, layered with nacho stuff, along with generous portions of beef, chicken, and chorizo. And, unlike the nachos offered by some places, the good stuff wasn't merely a topping; it was interspersed with chips from top to bottom. And it was enough that even though we started off hungry, and even though it was delicious, my wife and I couldn't finish it. The only thing we'll do at our next visit is leave out the chorizo; it was our least favorite of the three proteins. TLDR: Sit somewhere far from the bar, get the least expensive margaritas, order the nachos (maybe without the chorizo), and leave your tequila at home.

We get there around 6p on a Saturday night, and it's empty. We were slightly worried, but more and more people and families showed up during our meal. And we also noticed a lot of take out orders. Me and my friend split a mixed nachos. Nachos are always big. But these were large, and so flavorful. Abundant amounts of beef, chicken, avocado, and cheese cover the mounds of fresh chips. And the toppings are nicely mixed throughout the nachos, and not just on top like many places. Beware - this can easily fill up 2 people for dinner alone. We left about half uneaten. My friend ordered enchiladas verdes o de mole - with green sauce. He noted it was spicy! Everything was fresh and looked great. I ordered the Tampiquena Oaxaca Style - which includes 2 mole enchiladas, a plain sope, and a big huge piece of carne asada (or you can choose grilled chicken). The beef was slightly overcooked, but was still flavorful. This was a lot of food. The enchiladas were very flavorful. All ingredients are fresh. We were happy to have found this place. No regrets visiting this place!
