Phillis the host is super sweet and helpful. The house is loaded with appropriate eta furnishings and decor. It felt like a step back in time. We stayed in the blue room with king bed that was comfortable. Breakfast was delicious!

Stoltz Marianna House is a wonderful bed and breakfast. The owner Phyllis makes you feel right at home. The house is beautifully adorned with antiques. It is in pristine condition. The breakfast was delicious! I came as a student going to a 3 day class at Gonzaga, and it was perfect. Less than 10 minute walk to/from Gonzaga, so no need to rent a car if you are coming in from out of town. Loved the atmosphere and the hospitality.

    Green room.

The innkeepers were actually out of town visiting SF when I stayed, but the woman watching over the place in their absence was very warm & welcoming. As the other reviewer mentioned, the home is in pristine condition. Gorgeous Victorian details. I stayed in the Green Room (#3), which was very pretty with 2 big windows and nice light. I had the bathroom across the hall to myself. They do provide basic toiletries. The bed was the most comfortable one of my two weeks traveling. It had a 4" foam top and felt like a dream (unless you hate soft beds :). It was a very quiet stay. I was the only one for breakfast so they whipped me up some bacon & eggs on an english muffin. It was more than enough food for me and very tasty. The location is great, only a few blocks from Gonzaga. I was hoping for some more dining options, but there wasn't much happening on a Sunday night. Overall, a very comfortable stay. I'd definitely return!

A lovely place to stay when generic hotel just won't do. Homey and personalized service. My host Phyllis literally made her hotel meal times and rhythms function around my schedule instead of me having to conform to hers! Delightful and private. I will stay here every time now that I've found this hidden gem! It's like stepping back in time...

This beautifully restored Victorian Mansion was our best B&B experience yet. The room are tastefully decorated in Victorian antiques. Everything from the claw-footed tub in the bathroom to the ornate chandelier in the dining room made us feel like we had stepped back in time. We would love to come back for one of their Victorian high teas. Every course of the full service breakfast was delicious, especially the dutch babies. The staff was great. Heather, the daughter of the owner, is an excellent cook. She made us feel comfortable and welcome. Looking forward to staying here again.

Victorian furniture, stained glass, and an ornate dining room fit for kings. The owner, Mary, was a joy to talk to and made delicious iced tea for us to enjoy in the afternoon as we sat in the Mansion's "Secret Garden." The E.J. Roberts Suite was spacious and inviting (all red decor ... no frilly flowers you find in most B&Bs). The only downsides was that the bathroom was quite small (hard to find a big bathroom in most B&Bs anyway) with the sink outside of the room, and the king sized bed, while extremely comfortable, was really two smaller beds pushed together (we knew that beforehand from the website, and we thought we wouldn't notice, but we kept getting caught between the break). I look forward to trying out some of the other rooms on a future visit. Also, while I heard most visitors got a three or four course breakfast, we started with fruit, then had a breakfast burrito with a side of potatoes. A perfectly satisfying breakfast, but perhaps we should've stayed on a Friday or Saturday to get a full breakfast. But these were all very minor issues. Overall, the Mansion was a great place to stay and well worth the money. I can't wait to see what Mary does with the restaurant she's planning to open next door! Tip: Eat at the Elk Public House for lunch and dinner. Great neighborhood restaurant with outdoor seating. It's right around the corner from the Mansion (a 2 minute walk) and has great wine, beer, and sandwiches (I'm still thinking about how good the Santa Fe Chicken was).

She's served drinks. And that was about it. Would I ever recommend renting this place? No, if you have a lot of bags, or you find stairs challenging. This is not the place for you, they do not have an elevator and renting the presidential suite. Don't waste your money or your time. Or you're hearing or your sleep? Schedule, because you will gain none of those things. Also, the amenities in the room were not great. The products that they leave you to use were not high. End by any stretch of the imagination. Did they have some cute quirky artwork? And such sure, did it make up for it absolutely not. They should have invested more in the property and the quality of the sheets soundproofing than they did. A mural of The Beatles. Thank you so much.

1 Star - Predatory Fees, Religious Discrimination, Zero Accountability…read moreHotel Ruby in Spokane charged me a $22 "entertainment fee" -- a thinly veiled alcohol charge from their bar -- without disclosing it anywhere in my reservation. When I checked in and explicitly told the front desk agent that I do not drink alcohol for religious reasons and would not accept the charge, he looked me in the eye and told me it was policy. End of discussion. That's not policy. That's forcing a charge on a guest for something they don't want, didn't use, and objected to on religious grounds. I then contacted Expedia three separate times to dispute the charge. Three times. Each agent offered sympathy, vague promises to "email the property manager," and one even tried to buy my silence with a $50 credit toward a future booking -- as if I'd ever book through them again after this. No refund was issued. No one took responsibility. Expedia's final answer was essentially: the hotel won't budge, so good luck. Let's be clear, Expedia failed to disclose mandatory fees at the time of booking, failed to advocate for their customer, and then had the audacity to suggest I use a discount credit on a future reservation. There won't be one. This isn't a misunderstanding. It's deceptive billing, and both Hotel Ruby and Expedia own it equally. Stay somewhere that respects its guests. Additionally, the sink was clogged in my first room. The maintenance individual was kind and suggested to the front desk agent that I would need another room because the clog was a deeper issue that he would need to fix and he suggested I get part of my stay comped, but the rude front desk person completely ignored that.

But if train noises bother you, you won't enjoy it despite the ear plugs they provide. I appreciated the room size, the water pressure and the mini refrigerator/freezer and microwave in the room. The wifi worked perfectly well. The continental breakfast included microwavable biscuits with sausage and egg and multiple yogurts all of which I found acceptable. The parking lot was lit and in eyesight of our room. It was easy walking distance to the River Park area as well as many other restaurants. I felt perfectly safe there. I would have no issues staying here the next time we are in Spokane.

Two other Doubletree hotels that I stayed at this year in northern and southern California had smaller sized or less flavorful cookies. One property had a limited supply of cookies. The elevators are fast and operational at this site. I didn't have to wait long for the elevator to arrive. A request for extra linen and blanket at check-in were delivered before I even reached my room on the 12th floor. The small gift shop included snacks and freshly prepared salads ($8 vegetarian, $10 with chicken) and assorted sandwiches ($8). The prices were a bargain for hotel food and the amount was perfect to sustain most appetites. Furthermore the stock of retail sundries is excellent. A colleague fell and bruised his lip and nose. The next day he asked me to help him buy Neosporin. Without a car, I figured I may have to walk or take a bus. I asked the hotel where I could buy Neosporin and lip balm. I was informed that their gift shop had these items. The catered beverage service included clear [no trace of coffee stains] hot water for assorted Harney & Sons tea and Swiss Miss cocoa packets. Our catered buffet dinner was ample and delicious. The cherry torte reminded me of breaded cherry pudding. The steak and chops restaurant, Spencer's, on the hotel property offers fine meals. I ordered a takeout meal and was surprised by Ellia (the hostess) who thoughtfully included a ceramic dinner plate along with Oneida dinnerware and cloth napkin. She said that the mobile place setting would be nicer than eating out of a box. I was impressed by her thoughtfulness. I have been a guest at this hotel several times. But due to a fracture I needed to rely on an accessible equipped room. The hotel's handicapped accessible public bathroom stall and guest room were the best equipped in helping to prevent falls among all the hotel's that I have visited through the years. The public stalls came not only with handle bars near the toilet, an extra bar perpendicular to the floor to grab onto was also installed. And in addition to a foldup bench and grab bar individually surrounding the tub and toilet in the guest bathrooms, there's an additional perpendicular grab bar next to the shower/tub. I felt very safe in these thoughtfully designed spaces. As a card carrying Gold Hilton Honors member who has stayed at numerous Hiltons from New York to Hawaii and locations in between, I rank the Spokane Doubletree at the top for a pleasant stay. It is located within minutes of the downtown area and numerous restaurants nearby.

Positives: Has free parking, it's clean, reasonably quiet, and provided a good night's sleep. Negatives: It's a little tired and worn, and the bed wasn't as comfortable as I would've liked. But it worked. Note if you're staying here in Sept/Oct of 2025, there's horrific road construction and you can only approach the hotel from one very specific road to the east. Google and Apple Maps will both try to take you down two roads that are currently both closed and are likely to be for some time. Give yourself adequate time to find the hotel on your own, as navigation doesn't work. I'd still stay here again given the price.
