I don't like the unprofessional way I heard a co-worked named Justin was talking to another female co-worker . He was harsh in his demeanor and should not talk to her like that in general and especially not in front of customers . I stopped into Mariano's Fresh Market today for the first time and I was very impressed. The store is clean, the employees are all nice and helpful and your prices are very reasonable. I asked if these sale prices are just for the grand opening and was pleasantly surprised that this is what I get to look forward to see when I shop there. The specials may change, but you will always find savings throughout the store. You have managed to blow Jewel-Osco, Dominicks, Caputo's, and Market Fresh out of the water. You even have items that can put Wal-Mart to shame! I think I just found the grocery store for me and my family. Instead of shopping at 3 different places for the best prices, I can breathe easy knowing that I can go to one place for it all. There is hope in this world and hope has a name...... I just went for my first visit to Mariano's and even though I was insane enough to visit on a Saturday morning (it was packed), I had a fabulous time. The south side of the store is where all the action is happening (the north side is more like an everyday grocery store). Fun vegetables (I bought some adorable baby carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and Brussels sprouts) that were extremely fresh. Wonderful cheese selection and their king crab legs were priced right and wonderful. The breads were delicious and I personally loved the 'wine well' to rapid chill my bottle of bubbly I picked up. There have been some major negative changes since they were bought out Kroger. -no more fresh squeezed juicing machine -it is freezing throughout the whole store -the Deli is a nightmare. The people are nice enough but not efficient at all. The recipes of some of the salads seem to have changed and they replaced the big bowls with these utilitarian, square metal ones. The Caprese salad always looks dry and now, so I make my own. -Not as clean, there is usually a garbage odor by the front door and the bottoms of the dairy cases are gross. One good thing is they added a grab n go cooler with pre-sliced items from the deli including ham, salami, and cheese! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 4.5 I live down the street, so I am here all. the. time. I don't think I have been here when it isn't busy. Avoid the weekends if you want to keep your sanity. They have a great selection wine and beer! You must try: -the fresh squeezed juices -super cheap iced coffee -caprese salad from the deli -cheddar and philly cheese steak brats from the meat counter. also, lemon pepper chicken Only negative was the special order they messed up in catering and they fact they should hire a few more checkers over 21. Mariano's reminds me of Wegman's in NYC and has a very similar variety of food. The store is spotless and the building was even built to be environmentally friendly. Wonderful produce section with reasonable prices and a great selection of cakes, deserts and fresh bread. Far better than Whole foods and very reasonable prices as well. The meat and seafood sections we clean and again well done on pricing! If there was a Wegman's in Chicago it would be my first choice, but Mariano's will do! I considered 4 stars because the produce section was not all that. But there is so much good here that it out-ways the one shortcoming. The definition of a Yelp 5-star review is "As good as it gets" not "perfect". This really is as good as any grocery store will get (excluding extremely expensive places like Fox and Obel). I really don't expect any more out of a grocery store than Marianos provided. In fact, this is one of the best I have been to. The fresh baked goods are outstanding. They have the best artisan whole grain bread I have had outside of Europe. They have plentiful organic groceries which are conveniently put into separate subsections (ie the organic cereal is one specific section of the cereal isle, the organic shampoo a specific section of the bath and body isle). There are also many ethnic foods, an amazing selection of cheeses, a cafe, a good deli, and many special seasonal delights offered at one particular station. They really do have just about everything you could want making this almost the only store you need. The wine and spirits section is exceptional. They have a variety that rivals Binny's! When faced with a choice between Binny's and Marianos I go with Marianos for two reasons. First, they have other things I need and this saves me a trip. Second and more importantly, they have the same craft beers that I love but have them in a walk-in cooler whereas Binny's stocks them warm. And the clincher - build your own six-pack of any combination of craft and mainstream beers. And its kept cold! I cannot relate to the one or two negative comments on the staff here. They are the friendliest, most outgoing staff I have ever encountered in a grocery store. I never had so many employees check with me to see if I need help or just say hello anywhere before. Sure, you will walk past a few that won't acknowledge you but there are multiple staff members in every section. If each one stopped you, your shopping would never get done! One more thing I appreciate is the checkout line. This place is always packed. You get in the lot and think your going to stand in line all day. Then you get in and see that they have nearly every single checkout line open. The same crowd in a Jewel would be a nightmare. At Mariano's your in and out regardless of the crowd. Its a nice touch. An investment in the customer. You leave knowing that they care about your experience as a customer and want you back. read more

Picked up a tuna fish on croissant sandwich in the salad area and a bag of the in-store made potato chips. The tuna fish was ok but had too much mustard added to it. Subway's tuna is much better by far. Also, the in house potato chips were bland and quite disappointing. I don't plan on buying either of these items again at Mariano's. I had expected higher quality from Mariano's. read more

mariano's is pretty decent. it's like a lot of other grocery stores, i guess. some great sales here, especially on produce. i passed on some grape tomatoes because they looked a little wilted and crinkly, but just as i was walking away, someone with a giant cart of new ones showed up! that was a nice touch. some of the stuff here seems extremely overpriced - specifically the stuff in the international aisles. (but "aisles" plural is a good thing; the selection of international items is pretty good.) other stuff is just kind of overpriced in a regular and expected way. i probably wouldn't go out of my way to go shopping here. i'm much happier going to trader joe's, where stuff is just cheap all the time. read more

I've been to Mariano's a few more times since my first visit and have enjoyed it immensely. I guess my expectations were skewed before my first visit, but now I have adjusted quite nicely to the store. My favorite area is definitely the bakery -- I drool at all the beautiful treats on display. And even better? They're super delicious!! Most of my deserts for my wedding come from here, as well as our wedding cakes (sheet cakes for the guests, smaller layered cake for the two of us)! They were perfect and everyone loved them. Mariano's is the best grocery store ever! This place is so popular they have to direct traffic outside sometimes! Walk in and enjoy the live piano player, the sample/demo booth, and the great produce before you head down the gauntlet of wonders - a gelato bar followed by the salad bar and hot food stations (soup, custom made pizza, sandwiches, flatbreads, and other hot items like chicken, macaroni & cheese, sausage, etc.). They house one of the best bakeries I've ever seen in a grocery store - what a selection! I ordered a birthday cake from them once, it was DELICIOUS and so reasonable, and looked much nicer than a typical cake from the grocery store (although they apparently don't offer the gorgeous fondant creations that they showcase, which is a bit confusing). The deli is always packed, they have the most amazing fresh cheeses, meats, and salads, and the prices are much more reasonable than Jewel or Dominick's. The butcher has another huge glass case filled with amazing selections, and the fish options are copious too. From there it turns into a more "typical" grocery store, but so much selection! I haven't seen so much wine in a grocery store, they have anything you can think of! While you're there, you must try the fresh-squeezed orange juice, and stop by the gorgeous floral section! I'm not surprised Mariano's' are popping up everywhere - the overnight success of this place is well-deserved! read more

My girlfriend and I absolutely love Mariano's! Over the summer we came here all the time. If you know the area, the prices are like Valli Produce, but bigger and more things. This place has its own bakery with fresh bread, cupcakes, and cakes! Which all look amazing. There is also a Gelato bar where there are several flavors for you to have sitting down at the sitting area, or while perusing the aisles of the store. Also there is a deli and other food "restaurant" where you can get sandwiches, soup, salad, sushi, pizza, etc. This place is great... Great Prices! Great Food! What more can you ask for?! The only problem with Marianos is that it is ALWAYS packed (even during the day). It may be due to it just opened this summer or because the food and prices. But with so many people there, it tells me that its worth the wait! read more

4-3/4 stars from me! Mariano's has been open for almost four weeks now. I've been there almost every 3 days since. It doesn't help that I pass by it twice a day - on my way to work at 7am, and on my way home at 5:30pm. Temptation 1st thing in the morning, and at the end of my day. If I could get my butt out of bed earlier, I could treat myself to a freshly baked goodie and coffee to eat in their outdoor patio. Alas, I'm a lazybutt, and wistfully tell myself I will do it eventually. I've had their gelato - awesome - try the lemon and citrus flavors. I also had their cherry bomb coffee in their in-house coffeestand, attached to the gelato counter. Just haven't made it around the corner to the fried dough stand. Produce is very good - $2.99 for 2lbs of blueberries! Made lemon-blueberry muffins (with cinnamon streusel) as soon as I got those bad boys home. Also found some fresh herbs for $1.99. Never see that price anywhere for fresh herbs! And I've already made 2 trips to the make your own 6-pack beer fridge $8.99. Nice for couples like me & hubby that can't commit to a whole 6-pack b/c of different tastes. Made to order sandwiches were decent - I bought some on our 1st trip. I could make them more upscale at home, though. $6 for an entree & 2 sides were good. Had the chicken milanese with roasted veggies & pasta salad. Good, but portions could be a tad bigger. They package them in those pre-molded carryout clamshells. Points from me for being boidegradable, but it'd be better if they had bigger "side wells." Deli meats and cheeses are good - a little pricey, though. It's nice they have local bakeries on two of the end caps with their breads & rolls, in addition to their in-house bakery. I've bought Labriola pretzel rolls about three times now. Hubby "won't have burgers now unless they're on 'those rolls'." He says he's spoiled. And I've also got some Labriola sourdough that make great sandwiches. Bought a cake for MIL's bday last weekend. Beautiful decoration. Good price. Tasted great! Not too sweet - but surprisingly got a good sugar kick out of it. Great designs, but people should not expect "Cake Boss" or "Ace of Cakes" designs here. They don't do fondant; just buttercream, so that limits the kinds of designs the decorators can do. Remember, it's still a grocery store. If you want fondant, whipped cream, or structural cakes that shoot fireworks, go to an independent bakery. But the designs are a lot better than what you can get at Jewel, etc. A lot more gender neutral/male-friendly designs too, so that's nice. They have this neat juicer in the produce stand that makes fresh squeezed OJ, right next to the bottles they sell. I had their OJ, citrus bomb, watermelon and carrot juices. All were yummy. The carrot - meh - would've been better if they combined it with OJ. Still have to hit up the sushi bar, guacamole/salsa bar, soup bar, seafood counter, fresh sausage counter and the aforementioned fried dough stand. They have a good amount of private label brands. Haven't tried them, but it's nice to see $1.99 each for cereal and milk. Also they have 100% natural chicken, around $5-6 for a 3 pack of breasts - well placed in the shelves. Hard for me to find that at Jewel. Overall, it's a great place to hang out, eat all the samples they offer, and eat a meal/snack. Haven't done any regular grocery shopping which will be the true test for me. The large number of private labels and service counters does make it appear that they don't have as large of a selection of brands as a Jewel might have. So that might be a ding from me if I can't use the coupons I normally would for a Jewel. I still do enjoy the place, and will continue with my thrice-weekly mini-shopping trips, indulging hubby in the rolls, and myself with the gelato. read more

My mom started going here and forced me to go along with her - I resisted for many months, what was I thinking???? The staff here are amazing! Always helpful and smiling. They are not grumbly or anything. Just wonderful! The guy in the fresh produce (right when you walk in the door), Jack, is always so helpful! I love his little tips (those peaches are great, leave them in the frig for few days and they will be even better was his last tip and he was right on!) There are staff like that throughout the store, just ask and don't be shy! Most of them will offer help anyway, but ask and they will share their knowledge willingly and they are knowledgable. Great store, I stop on my way home - since I live in Chicago - but I wish there were lots more of these. read more

I lived in MSP for a couple years and am familiar with the Rainbow/Roundy's products. I favor grocery stores on gluten-free products. They even carry gluten free cupcakes. Although the organization/location of gluten-free products still baffles me. Aside from Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, Mariano's does carry a lot lot of items. I love this store and the location staff is always very friendly, I only had one problem with a cashier I dont want to point her out simply because i dont want to embarress her, It was around 730pm, I guess the store was getting ready to close soon she was cleaning the belt, I asked her if she wanted me to go to a different cash? she said its fine, but kept cleaning, so i couldnt put my food on the belt, she was staring at me weird, I was like ok? I will go to another cash then and she didnt say anything, she lacks personality and just comes off rude, I try to avoid her everytime i go because she never says hi or anything.. as for everything else perfect! read more

These stores are wonderful, and they now carry my favorite vodkas, Bombora and Cooranbong Australian Vodkas. They are awesome - distilled from australian grapes - Cooranbong is distilled 10 times and is also gluten free. I'm a huge fan of Mariano's and of Bombora and Cooranbong Vodkas. read more

The layout is very strategic and that sometimes means traffic gets jammed in certain areas which I'm sure is intentional. By the way, if you don't need bakery or deli items, walk through the produce section to the liquor section to get to the rest of the groceries and skip all the madness. I have grown to really love and appreciate Mariano's. There are some who work there who will REALLY go out of their way to help you and take 'customer service' to that extra level. (i.e. Allison in Vero is awesome! She is always helpful, offers you samples and just there with a great smile!) But I agree with some comments, some of the customers really bog this place down. They are just rude and inconsiderate. They let their kids run around and act like fools, or THEY act themselves like idiots, I've even witnesses people open product, try it and leave it on the shelves. Just plain disgusting behavior and rude, rude, rude, rude, rude. It's nothing that management can do about it. It is just the area and the awful selfish people who surround it. So, unfortunately, it doesn't bring down the experience of shopping there. Other than the rude customers, the shopping experience is rather different than most grocery stores. The managers or leads are willing to assist you if you have any questions or problems like something is out of stock or a sale item is missing. The aisles are always clear and clean when I shop versus Meijer when they always have pallets of crap in the middle of everything. And I'm 5'2" so when I try to reach for something above my head, there is ALWAYS someone offering to get the item for me. At Jewel I sometimes have to climb the shelves like a monkey. So it's nice and different and they try, at least, to be more helpful. Plus you got to love the $1.00 gelato and on Thursdays $10 pizza! read more

This is related to the pharmacy. Avoid using Mariano's pharmacy. They used to be great and the pharmacists are still helpful and friendly but they cannot reliably fill your prescriptions. They are consistently out of medications. I am currently waiting for a refill going on two weeks which is completely unacceptable. I don't know if this is related to the Kroger takeover, but I can no longer use them. read more

OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG This place is SO GREAT. I haven't seen Costco in weeks, and I've kissed Garden Fresh good-bye! First of all, you don't need a membership to access the great stuff here. Plus, there's usually a couple FREE SAMPLES there, so a hobo could just waltz right in. In addition to the great produce, there is a walk-in pharmacy, 3 (count 'em!) restaurants, AND they sell all brands, not just the store brands. Tried this place out since they are starting to build more of them around the Chicago area. Overall I was pleased with my experience. I went on a Sunday. The place was packed, but you could still move around. Service at the bakery and checkout was quick. The employees were friendly. I like how they are all dressed nicely. I found Mariano's to be most similar to Whole Foods in terms of appearance and food selection. However I found the prices at Mariano's to be very reasonable. Some prices were lower than I would expect, while others were a bit higher. They had lots of samples of different foods to try which is nice. When they complete the new one in Palatine, I will go there for sure. read more

I agree with many of the other reviews that the store has gone downhill very quickly. My biggest complaint is that they don't staff the check out lanes, forcing you to go to the self check out. If you have a few items, that seems reasonable to do, but not for a whole cart of groceries, alcohol, etc. I am not shopping at this store any longer due to the lack of checkout staff and long lines. read more

I wholeheartedly agree with the most recent reviews. I was a big Mariano's fan when it first opened, now I am looking for a new place to shop. The prices have gone up considerably, the staff are awful, the produce does not last and don't even get me started on the self checkout. My husband got do worked up trying to do the self checkout that he left and said he'd never return. He made true to that promise and now I'm shopping alone (if I have to go there). Usually we drive all the way to Deer Park now to go to Whole Foods. At least we know the produce will not be bad the next day. read more

This Mariano's store is on the way home from work, thus a principle reason to stop in this store. My prior comments on Mariano's discussed expired food on the shelf, moldy store packaged portioned food, etc. While I respect the right for Mariano's to scrutinize another patron's identification with respect to a liquor purchase today's handling of the matter by the store manager showed very poor judgement. In short the checkout person called the store manager given she did not recognize a West Virginia identification card. The store manager ignored the checkout person for a long time wasting the time of everyone waiting in line. Once the store manager finally showed up, she started going through the same questions, clearly with the same problem as the checkout person. In other words wasting even more time of the patrons waiting. Simply put the store manager should have taken the matter offline to the front of the store. While this was ongoing everyone behind me in line scattered to other checkout lines and were well out of the store before I finally lost it and left my merchandise with the checkout person, walking out of Marano's in disgust. The question lingers how will I ever get the 20 minutes of my life back Mariano's? The answer is never, but actually the real answer is that this is the last straw and Mariano's is never going to get another minute of my time again! Expired food, moldy store packaged product, disregarding customer's time...all focuses on one clear problem. Poor store management. All that said I ran straight to Jewel. Not only did they have the same cheese and dietary supplement, the latter product was discounted two for one. I came out ahead. UPDATE: Today I shopped at Mariano's noticing a large display of Le Gruyere cheese. It was priced at a whopping $27.00 per pound. Yesterday I just happened to buy the VERY SAME cheese at my local Valli store several miles away. It was priced at $13.99 per pound! Shame on Mariano's! read more

DO have fun at the cafe and sample some of their different foods! DON'T expect prices to be super good on groceries- they're about mid- to expensive unless something's on sale. Mariano's RIP. #Kroger killed the wonderful Mariano's chain in record time. Produce department so sad. Missing staple items. Hot bar pitiful with baked fish so overcooked it seems dehydrated. Deli selections cut down. Fish not labeled for origin. Packaged Bell & Evans chicken smelled funny on day of purchase.(hot summer day) So many items on shelves discontinued. But you can buy a gas grill. You can buy a gas grill at Ace Hardware about five minutes away, Walmart, Target, Home Depot, Menard's all close by. Then it is time to check out. Lines for actual human checkers are going down the aisles. Self checkout is terrible. I would expect these problems is the store were in Buttfunk, Alaska but it is in Arlington Heights, a large village in suburban Chicago. The sad thing is when Kroger shutters it because of lack of customers they will not sell it to Whole Foods but let it sit vacant for years. What a dirty shame. read more

There is ample parking, which is nice and convenient for me, and I do not have to worry about parking because sometimes, in any place I go, it is hard for me to park when there are only a few spaces available, and it is a good thing that I do not have a problem with regards to parking in this grocery store. The layout is also nice and well organized. The store is clean and spacious as well. I also do not have a problem when it comes to their selection of everything I needed because they have a great selection and I could not ask for more because they have everything I wanted. Not only that they have a nice selection, but also their selection has the best quality too. Any product I could think of is fresh and of good quality, and so far, I have never experienced anything negative about their products or sort of. The prices are also fair and reasonable. They also have sales items for most of the items, which is again a good thing. Every store I know has a sale item regularly, but I mostly come here, so I can say that it is still a plus about this store. Lastly, the staff are fine. They are nice and friendly. In the past few months I have been here, I have already experienced both good and bad when it comes to the service and, of course, at the checkout. read more

I'm a HUGE fan of Mariano's! I love the selection and the sales people are some of the nicest I have ever encountered. If this review was for Mariano's as a whole, it would be 5 stars...no doubt. But my review is for BEVERLY in the BAKERY. My son has a peanut allergy. I'm a pretty laid back allergy mom. We still go out to plenty of restaurants, bakeries and ice cream shops. I am just very careful when we do. And, when in doubt, I have food for my son that I brought from home. At his most recent allergy visit, I asked if I was too laid back. The doctor said I just need to be careful and ask questions. My husband took my son to Dunkin Donuts the next day and they let him know that they put all of their peanut donuts on the bottom shelf---that way in case any peanuts fall off, they won't fall on the other donuts. I thought that was a pretty good step in keeping them separate. While in Mariano's later that day, I walked by the bakery. Since it was fresh in my mind, I took a peek to see how they did it. I know they sell nut-free cupcakes and cookies so I thought they'd probably be on top of it as well. But I noticed the peanut products were all on the top shelf. The 2 ladies working at the counter asked if I needed anything. I replied that I was just looking---like I said, I'm pretty laid back and rarely say anything about his allergy. When in doubt, I just don't buy it. But then I thought, well maybe they'd like to know this good tip I'd just heard about. So, in the most non-threatening, polite way, I said, "You know, I wonder if you might want to put your peanut products on the bottom shelf so they don't fall on the other products. That way if someone with a nut allergy was interested in your treats, they might feel more comfortable......" I'm not sure how much I got out before BEVERLY completely cut me off and actually shooed me away. I stood there dumb-founded for a minute and a little embarrassed. After all, I never say anything for fear of looking crazy---and the one time I do, some old broad completely dismisses me and makes me feel like an idiot. I kind of shook my head at the younger woman and slowly walked away. While waiting at the deli, I noticed the younger woman talking to a new woman. I assumed she was the manager so I walked over to share my version of the story. The new woman spoke with an accent and was super nice. She apologized over and over and said I was absolutely right and they'd fix it. I still left the store feeling like a fool, but at least I'd shared a good tip. I was still planning on calling about Beverly since she treated me so poorly. But the days went on and I forgot about it until my next trip there. I was shocked that when I walked by the bakery, everything was in the exact same place. I guess she didn't think I was right after all. They've been that way every time I've gone in since. It's fine. I don't buy that stuff anyway. But BEVERLY is a disgrace to that store. Every single person that works there goes out of their way to treat you so wonderfully---and she went out of her way to make me feel horrible. Have been shopping at the Mariano's in Arlington Heights since it opened. Was very excited about this one opening here. The selections even better than Arlington Heights store and is laid out very nicely still have the same issue with the buildup of people in the deli section. The things that irritate me about this new store that I did not notice in the Arlington Heights store is the checkout people seem to be very undertrained and get confused very easily dress code seems to be laxed a lot of conversations happening at the end of the line with other workers either coming or going which makes it kind of awkward to walk past them, as you don't want to interrupt people that are talking. The bakery here is as good as it gets! I've purchased my sisters bridal party cake from here, purchased my sons birthday cakes here for the past 2 years, and I do my everyday shopping here! Great service and they do an amazing job! My guests always rave about my desserts and must know where I get them from; they are always shocked when I tell them I special order them from Mariano's! The frosting is amazing and the batter is to die for. If you're not looking to spend an arm and a leg on over priced desserts from an expensive bakery go here!
