I always feel like I'm on some delightful transcendent experience when I walk in to a live pianist and tons of fresh produce. They have yummy on-site gelato, beautiful and delicious cakes (even their plainest cupcakes are delectable!), a big spice section, craft beers, organic toiletries/makeup, samples (at certain times), helpful staff, and good prices. Mariano's squeezes their own orange, beet, and other juices. They have 8 soups hot & ready as well as freshly made sushi and other more typical ready to eat items.Their meat counter has premarinated items as well as stuffed items, and you can always hit a good sale. Everything is packaged ready for your freezer, so I usually stock up. You can get tons of flavors of Greek yogurt, rice/almond/soy milk, and almond butter (though not a ton of selection on brands for the alternative milk/butter). I love it, from the lighting to the wooden floors. :) Yay for grocery shopping! *They also take off like 5/10 cents for each reusable shopping bag of your own that you bring. :D read more

Arlington Heights store review- Is there a ZERO stars? Last straw. Employees smoking by the south entrance. Legit walk through the smoke. The designated cigarette disposal thing was jam packed and over flowing so the employee dropped the cigarette and stamped it out and went inside leaving behind the 30 or so other "butts", wrappers, and crushed can. Absolutely disgusting. I have written directly to the store regarding other unacceptable "dirty" areas inside and outside....no response, no solution. I can't imagine what happens behind the scenes. I'll drive the extra miles to the Des Plaines store or to competitors. Very sad what started out as a great place has gone so far downhill. read more

$1 gelato until 10pm! I was surprised that their baked goods aren't cheaper later at night and that there is no discount for buying in bulk. But $0.65 for a doughnut isn't bad. Double check the bakery price tags; they labeled one whoopie pie as $24 when it was $1.50. They are super fast at replying to their Facebook wall posts. Probably my favorite place in the world. I could walk around here for hours. I see people go on dates here now which is crazy and I'm so jealous. Why has no one taking me on a Mariano's date?! This is where I go when I need moments of Zen. The best part is the bakery, you can tell they don't skimp on their ingredients and use real butter. Generally pretty nice. The salad bar is great, but pricey. I'm a little disappointed that they wouldn't take a cake order for Thursday morning on Tuesday evening. They told me I had 2 days in advance, which I suppose means 2 days from the time, but I can't imagine a simple sheet cake would be a big deal when they make them with random decorations every day. Mariano's is my go-to place. If I need anything remotely grocery store related I'm going to Mariano's to get it...unless it's after hours then I'll go to Meijer. It's hard to really pinpoint specific aspects to highlight in a Yelp review, so my plan here is to simply list (in no particular order) things I like about Mariano's. Here we go: Produce, the salad bar, baked bread, chicken salad, fine cheeses, lobster bisque, samples, wine varieties, international aisles, samples, bulk dried fruits and nuts, walk-in beer cooler, sausage and peppers, gelato, samples, the piano man, low prices, *double coupon Wednesdays*, recipes, smaller carts, fresh juice, sushi samples, and the meat section. There's more, but I won't bore you, I'll just encourage you to check it out and discover your own list. My only negatives (hence 4 starts; not 5) would be how crowded it gets inside and how the parking lot can get equally as congested; I find the same few people who cause traffic jams outside will cause them inside with their carts and whatnot. Unfortunately some people are just inconsiderate and clueless and clog up the walkways which could easily be avoided if everyone showed a little common courtesy, and not just some of us. Sorry, I needed to vent. To remedy this I park either on the side or further away and just hoof it; I would rather get the extra steps in and avoid the headache altogether. But as you can see the pros vastly outweigh the cons, therefore Mariano's is worth a shot. PS If you do go and there aren't any samples, I'm sorry I ate them all. read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this grocery store and lately it has been hovering around hate. The bakery is nice with a great selection of breads, and the butcher counter has a really good selection (try the philly cheesesteak sausages and bacon!) as well with decent prices. As others have posted, the south end of the store is a little more upscale than your average Jewel (despite the really small produce section), and the rest of the store is your typical grocery store. For the most part, the employees are really helpful (with one execution). My problem lately has been with the deli. Please stop trying to convince me to buy Dietz & Watson...$8/lb for lunch meat? No thank you. And the older lady with the blonde hair needs to find a new job that she enjoys. Every time she helps me, she's rude, seems miserable, and takes for-ev-er to get the job done. It took her 7 minutes to slice a pound of turkey for me as she dilly dallied behind the counter doing god-knows-what. The liquor section is pretty extensive for a grocery store, but to say it rivals binny's (as described in a previous post) is an extreme exaggeration. The location of Mariano's is really convenient, which is nice. But unlike most people, I'm not in love with it. read more

In our already-saturated marketplace of grocery stores, my hope is that Mariano's will one day be as prolific as Jewel-Osco, Dominic's, Caputo's and Valli's. Produce look fresh and well assembled. Go bananas at 39cents a lb. $2.99 your choice of whole or cored pineapple! Naturally, I go for the ready-to-eat! $2 for Driscoll strawberries. Beat that, Jewel! This was my first visit and I'm sure I'll return whenever I'm in the area. As my purpose was the bakery section on a busy Saturday, I didn't get a chance to discover the entire store. Check out their beautifully piped cupcakes at $2.35 for a beautiful, huge thing. And DOUBLE COUPONS on Wednesday (someone told me Saturday, too, but I didn't see any sign for it). I heart Marianos! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE build one in the Oak Brook area. Oak Brook needs fresh produce that you guys have at Caputos pricing, but fresh and clean and organized like Whole Foods!! The one thing I hate about Caputo's is that they don't really care about the state of their produce, more often than not I would see fruit flies buzzing around and they just pile up their veggies where Marianos actually stacks their produce neatly and nicely the way Whole Foods does. They have all the fantastic ethnic aisles, so I can grab my fish sauce along with a few Polish things for my hubby ... how ridiculously awesome is that?? Prices are fantastic, variety is killer. I truly hope that they consider Oak Brook, they would kill over here, especially since we don't have a super huge Whole Foods the way Naperville and Schaumburg does ..... read more

Great selection of fresh produce, bakery items (the muffins and cookies here are delicious), meats, ice cream, and other items. They have very reasonable prices on all the staples while carrying special organic/natural items and herbal remedies as well. You'll find things ranging from Tom's dry mouth spray to Haagen Daz's green tea ice cream that you really wouldn't expect to find at any other store. You can even find lemongrass and dragonfruit. If you enjoy shopping at Trader Joes, Whole Foods, or Sunset Foods I'm sure you'd enjoy giving this place a try too. read more

It used to be nice to do all my shopping here but now I am being forced to go to several different stores. Also when I was there today they had a checkout open that had a broken scale and everyone knew this, I watched as an employee had to pull the scale unplug the cord and replug it in to finish my order. This store and how it is run is getting worse by the day. I could go on like how the people at the deli counter don't put meats back after they slice an order and the how they don't keep the equipment clean. There is much more about this store. If I could give this a minus one star I would. Mediocre is the best quality of foods there. Espresso bar not cheap but poor quality,and the bakery items were expensive and pre frozen,dried out and tasteless. My favorite place to shop for groceries, and it's a great lunch place as well! They will grill or steam any purchase you make in the Meat Department. Great for a quick lunch, that tastes better than all fast food places and is cheaper too. Staff is always friendly and helpful! Management is very responsive to customers. I've actually made friends with staff members. Went to a local grocery store for an item, just because I wasn't near Mariano's. What a complete let down! Good pricing and fabulous selection and customer service. I hope the pricing is not just low to draw you in since it is new, but we loved it! The have a fabulous bakery for breads and cakes. The produce looks very fresh and so far I have been really happy with the quality of everything that I have purchased. This past week they had Taco seasoning for .25 a packet and when I got there they were sold out of the brand that was on sale. The manager said to substitute it for McCormick taco seasoning and they would honor the .25/pkt price! That is customer service! Everyone who passed us was polite and asked if we needed anything. The man in the liquor dept... knew what he was talking about and we were very impressed with the selection of beers that they carried. They have a lot of beer from smaller breweries and some of our favorites from the Michigan Breweries that we like. They offer a create your own 6 pack for $8.99 which we didn't think was to bad of a price. When I asked for a specific type of wine the man knew right where to take me! I was impressed. Since it is newly opened the crowds are bad, but i assume that it will calm down soon. I have never seen so many people on scooters. We like that they have double coupon days on Wednesday and Saturdays! We were very pleased with the selection and the customer service that Marianos has. Move over Caputo's, Valli Produce, Whole Foods and Trader Joe's, Mariano's Fresh Market has finally opened and I am one happy customer! This spot located off Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights can be categorized as an upscale, European market. From the fresh artisan breads (which they will slice and were 25% off) to the fresh squeezed juice station or the expansive deli and cheese bar. Mariano's added a special touch on every aspect of the store. They even greeted customers at the front door with free grilled homemade brats and sausages! I believe this was a grand opening special though, but a very cool touch! Their website statement (http://www.marianosfreshmarket.com/) boldly says, "Our new grocery store will make you forget you're in a grocery store." I must admit I was on sensory overload. I shopped around for nearly 2 hours taking in all offered and the very competitive prices, which I hope are not just a grand opening scheme/special. Fresh squeezed orange juice for $1.99 half gallon? Hello! That's awesome, delicious, AND nutritious! Homemade sausages, meats, and seafood that they will grill for you for no extra charge, how cool is that? I love their expansive array of products and brands. I had never heard of Roundy's brand, but I bought a few things that were their specialty store brand and thought they were quality products. I will gladly drive the extra 10 minutes from home to head to this store from now on. Plus, they accepted all my coupons--I admit I am a frugalista and coupon clipping queen! For about two weeks worth of groceries and an extremely full cart of meats, produce, staples, specialty items, discounted items, etc I spent only $125! I was shocked at how little I spent! The hype was probably detrimental to my experience. I had read how friendly and helpful the staff was and how impressive their selections and prices. Well their selection was quite substantial, kind of lacking in the organic/natural area, the prices were...meh and as for the customer service...it was like a roller coaster. While walking into the store there was what i assumed to be a greeter who seemed to do his very best to avoid eye contact even with me smiling straight at him although i did see him greet an older woman who came in behind me, as i went through the store i must have passed at least 20 employees with less then a smirk from most which baffled me since i was there at a relatively dull time, yet at the different counters i visited and at the check out the employees were pleasant and friendly. so the pluses; THE CUPCAKES were beautiful, fresh, and delicious (but also one of the biggest headaches i encountered ) the gelato is fresh has a delectable variety and actually had quite a knowledgeable staff to assist, and they have quite an extensive array of prepared foods be it deli or cafe. local produce is a nice find The minuses; The produce as a bit disappointing (but i think that was more with the expectations factor). The darn cupcake holders don't hold cupcakes upright so these beautiful creations fall all over the place, i had to return to the counter to get new ones when a tipping disaster occured at the register while being rung up... when attempting to receive replacements the boy behind the counter was nice enough...but took 10 minuets to package the new ones (which also did a wibble wobble under close supervision in the car) ...so my advice bring a cupcake guardian with. The inconsistent staff, but i figure its mostly the newness of the place. All in all i'll probably be back for some cupcakes and to try other baked goods, but i feel when the glitter settles this shall emerge as just another grocery store. read more

My recent visit in the store after months was quite nice. it is clean and bright inside. Most of the selection are well-stocked however, there are few selections that is not. There is this particular product that I need but unfortunately it is not available or maybe out of stock although there is a substitute product that is available, I was still hoping on what I usually use. On my last visit in the store the staff was quite rude and I was just glad that the cashier I talked to recently was nice and friendly. It was a quick grocery shopping and the prices of everything is way cheaper than if ever I did my groceries in other store in the area. I also bought a prepared salad and it was good. I was at the locale Ace Hardware store so I decided to shop at Mariano's because it is down the street from Ace. I was looking for a Chuck Roast to make a pot roast. Guess what happened? I finally visited Mariano's on a sunday. What a mistake, it was a zoo. I think because they offer so many things it attracts large crowds. Besides the bakery I dont see what the big deal is about this place. I'm not going to go to a madhouse grocery store to get gelato and coffee sorry not very relaxing to me...to each their own though. The produce section was the smallest section!! So it was nearly impossible to manuever. And the grocery aisles too big and overwhelming, especially with all those people. You tend to see people "strolling" through the aisles like they are on a sunday walk outside, no cart, etc. not really shopping. Its very strange and just clogs up an already busy store. The deli counter was insanely crowded! Very frustrating. And the patrons just seem generally Pretentious as if their dollar is greener....not sure what that's about. The staff was extremely friendly though. Would ONLY go back if there was some sort of speciality item i couldnt get anywhere else or I needed something from the bakery. This is the most exciting thing to happen to Arlington Heights in years! This is a gourmet wonderland- full of possibilities. The produce is gorgeous, with a nice selection of organic. The mini food court is a great touch. Coffee, pizza, sandwiches, sushi and don't get me started on the bakery. The aroma alone is intoxicating. A healthy variety of artisan breads, along with cookies, donuts, pies and cupcakes and cakes that are truly a work of art. I really love the dinner deals. You can get them hot and ready to go, or refrigerated so that you can heat them for dinner later. I have tried the Cedar plank salmon with maple walnut sweet potatoes and various other side dishes that change all the time. Fresh meats, deli, fish, huge cheese section, great wine selection, incredible selection of imported foods, hundreds of different types of pasta... You've just got to go and experience this yourself! read more

Over the past year I have probably spent about 14 days in Arlington Heights, visiting relatives there etc. I have been to Mariano's 6 times. I'm not sure whether that speaks to me being lame or Mariano's being awesome, but let's chalk it up to the latter. Their produce is fresh, and they have a wonderful variety. The aisles upon aisles of different foods were overwhelming at first, but it's great to see such a mix of standard grocery store food with a wide variety of ethnic offerings. The organization and flow of the store is impeccable, and there are almost always samples being given out. I am a particular fan of their cheese selection and sampling. Another point of interest is that they will cook your meat for you--I've never done it but my grandfather does it all the time, and I know that they'll do it at little to no additional cost. The bakery section is entirely too tempting, and after two family members surprised me with birthday cakes from them I can tell you that their cake is good, and while very sweet it's not the typically overly sweet grocery store cake you would normally expect. The liquor section is also great-- as far as beer goes they have a surprisingly good selection of microbrews and other lesser known beers, the staff is generally knowledgeable when you ask a question, and the pricing is good. Overall, I'm a huge fan of the place. Definitely look forward to visiting the place when I'm in town. read more

The staff here are always very helpful and polite, and there are some super-classy touches like live piano music. I also appreciate that they have a lot of actually very good meal options that are either ready-to-eat or almost ready-to-eat (e.g. stuffed mushrooms that can be baked within 10 minutes for $4/pound and an antipasto combination of meats and cheeses that is ridiculously affordable at $6/pound). ... I would, however, recommend staying away from the sushi -- while Mariano's sushi is better than Whole Foods', specialty grocers like Mitsuwa are still a much better (and cheaper) option. read more

I am giving this place a 5 star rating for two reasons right now and two reasons only: this isn't Jewel-Osco and the people of DT A. Heights no longer have to drive up to Dominicks for a decent selection. That being said, this place is pretty good. True, their marketing of 169 types of organic produce seemed a touch hyperbolic, but their selection of produce in general is amazing for DT AH. Fresh herbs? I haven't seen those at Jewel in months. If you are a sausage person, they have a wide variety of fresh-made sausages that they will grill for you right there, free of charge. Their ethnic section, while sprawling, was a touch lackluster, but did offer us some choices beyond Jewel's "you want ethnic? Here's salsa" approach. For me, the best part was their walk-in beer/white wine cooler that offered a selection only exceeded by Binny's. Micro-brews from Wisconsin and Colorado. European macro-brews that stores don't carry around here. To put it in perspective, I bought a warm 6-pack of a certain Colorado micro at Binny's last week for $16.99. Last night, I bought a the same 6er from Mariano's for $9.99. And it was cold. In summary, this is the best grocery store, ethnic store and liquor store in downtown Arlington Heights. P.S.- If part of the appeal of Jewel is not having to drive, the walk to Mariano's is comparable. Just take Sigwalt east past the fire department. There's a pedestrian walkway that goes under NW Highway and spits you out right behind Mariano's. read more

My least favorite Mariano's location in the area. This parking lot is perpetually packed and full of terrible drivers. It's like thunder dome. All Mariano's stores have been in a recent decline since being bought by Kroger. Many products we loved are now replaced with cheaper (not necessarily less expensive) Kroger brands, fresh produce has declined. We've tried other grocery store options as a result, but Mariano's still remains the best option in the area. Not sure it will remain that way at this rate, but we'll see. read more

Well I just love me a good grocery store. Hell for me they are tourist stops on my "Tour of my 'burb" tour for family and friends (poor family and friends never see it coming). I want to start out by saying I love this place and it reminds me of the Central Marketplace that I used to go to in Dallas with one of my former sales dudes. Love the variety and the ability to find so much gourmet stuff... So why the rating?? Well two simple reasons: 1. Most of the items seem to be overpriced (even for someone who generally kicks it European-style and just gets a few items at the nearby Dominick's on the way home). The produce runs you a bit more that Doms/Jewel prices. But I guess I'm just a lover of the great, cheap produce I get at Caputo's. It's really hard to beat them (and it's closer to home). And 2. I've recently learned that though there is a great and interesting selection of gourmet/unusual items, they lack choices in some general staples. I wanted to get a few things while my friend perused the gourmet foods recently and I went looking for Agave Nectar (surely that's a general pantry staple now right?? Okay maybe just for anti-processed crazy people... and me) and could only find one brand in one size. Hmmm... well Agave is still a bit out there for some people. So I got one and moved on. I needed peanut oil too... Now THAT is surely a normal, everyday staple for any home cook right??!?!? Apparently not. There was only one size: GIGANTIC! Yes. I love to fry things and I need to have 3 gallons of peanut oil to feed my monstrous beer battering habit. (Sarcasm font) Ugh. Take a star deduction. Now for something positive: Great produce selection and the quality is good. It's a got a Whole Foods vibe and price. read more

To put into perspective, I live 1 block away from Marianos. When it first opened I would go there multiple times a day (call it the "new and something different" effect). At first I would've probably given Marianos 4 stars. But after almost 4 months that's slipped to 3 stars, and maybe even 2 if not for the fact I live a block away (convenience factor). Pluses - prices are competitive to Jewel/Dominicks, cleaner and newer than J/D, check-out is so easy, sometimes better selections than J/D (especially beer cooler). Negatives - prices have risen since first opening, staff, while friendly, no longer as helpful, the *unique* items that drew me are steadily disappearing (buffalo steaks and burgers and fresh chorizo no longer seem available, vegetable selection shrinking), the crowds are horrible on the weekend (especially around deli - can barely move and you get number 75 and they are on 45) and the Vero staff can't make a quality mocha to save their lives (nothing like a drink that's all espresso on top and all chocolate syrup on the bottom - which has happened to me at least the last 6 times). Bakery items look good, but the cupcakes are horribly dry (I learned they aren't even made on-site). The other day my 15-year-old check girl was totally clueless and didn't even notice me for 3-4 minutes as she chatted up the 15-year-old boy check-out staff member next to her. All in all, its a clean/new Jewel/Dominicks with some pluses over J/D. And its close when I need something in a pinch. However, for power shopping, Meijer is a much better value and overall experience, where I can get the same things. read more

We still shop at Mariano's from time to time, but we spend WAY less here than we used to spend. In the last year or so they require the Mariano's card to get many if not most in-store discounts. This is so they can track and market your buying habits. Last trip in, we wanted a handful of things and the AH Mariano's was convenient. Now I've come to learn they won't process a Mastercard as credit. My WinTrust Mastercard which is credit or debit is no longer accepted unless I enter my pin. Of course, this will further cut into my Mariano's visits. read more

We discovered what everyone already knows...................This is a Great Store. How can you not love a store that has a piano player? How can you not love a store that has in store activities for kids (today was cupcake decorating. Prices are fair. Seafood selection is stellar. Belgian beer selection was a 8 out of 10 (They do not have my faves of Rochefort or Orval hence the reduction to 4 ****.). The bakery and deli section can get a bit congested due to their location (across from each other). Pick up a frequent shopper card/key fob. Always good to earn savings. There are a ton of grocery stores popping up in both the suburbs & city, which is a nice change to your typical Jewel or Dominick's, but this one is definitely my favorite. I liked the produce selection, hot food section, florist department, helpful workers & the cleanliness of the store. Both the worker in the produce department & the worker in the wine department were extremely helpful & went out of their way to find & recommend things for me. Everyone loves the gelato (it's pretty good). I'm excited for the new location to open. read more

I love markets and this place makes you feel like you are in a far away land. Fabulous cheese selection, great produce, a ridiculous amount of carbs (aka bread gallore), and so much more. My only complaints are that it's not close enough to where I live and the layout makes shopping there a little chaotic as everyone seems to congregate by the deli and carboholics (bread) aisle. read more

I've been waiting for this place to open for a long time and it's completely exceeded all my expectations. It's refreshing to finally have a market with a philosophy in AH. All the produce (the variety of which is like nothing I've ever seen anywhere- even at Whole Foods) is fresh and much of it is grown at local farms. The seafood is all super fresh and the sausage is made in house every morning. I was even impressed with the prepackaged meats: they offer a complete line of organic and humanely raised poultry, which is almost impossible to find at other area stores. Their bakery items are awesome (which is great, because Whole Foods' baked goods are terrible). The cakes are worlds better than anything I've seen at any grocery store, the snickerdoodle cookies we had were amazing and even the cupcake I bought was the best cupcake I've had in a long time- from anywhere. And I really think that we paid a lot less for what we got than what we would've paid at Jewel. My favorite wine is $5 less at Mariano's. I'll make the trek out here early if I have a day off work because it gets ridiculously crowded on the weekends. I mainly go for the butcher/meat counter. It's wonderful! It reminds me of Whole Foods but not as expensive. Very fresh meats with a variety of cuts. Their burger patties are really tasty. Their applewood smoked bacon is the best. If you have a sweet tooth, don't miss the bakery. Lots of fresh treats, including a fun variety of brightly decorated cupcakes. The liquor selection is cool because within the walk-in cooler is a "create your own 6-pack" of craft beers. It's a neat way to try a few things, rather than buy a whole 6-pack of the same thing. read more

Ordered food from Mariano's in the midst of the covid-19 crisis. Went to the store for pickup. The person who put the food in my trunk said: "I'm going home, tired of sanitizing and i feel like I'm coming down with the flu". OMG nothing like scaring the cr*p put of me. Was she serious?
