It's weird to review a grocery store. The chain stores are all the same, right? Nope. I have probably been to 3 or 4 different Mariano stores. This one is by far the best! Whole Foods is one thing, you expect each location to have a unique touch. Lincoln Park is the gold standard with a coffee bar, extra space to hang out and an amazing beauty section. But for Mariano's, you would expect each location to be similar. This location has Stan's Donuts. I am not referring to the packaged Stan's Donuts that are a far cry from the fresh baked variety. There is an actual kiosk of freshly baked Stan's. Plus, only steps away is a Starbucks. A full on Starbucks not the fake mini store within a store. The store feels spacious with extra wide isles. Honestly, it is completely out of the way from me but I will make the trip for the comfort, selection and the extra super nice lady at the self checkout - she was the happiest, friendliest and most helpful grocery store worker. It can't be a fun job, but she seemed to love it. The only issue, I am on day 3 of keto- now back to day 1 after 3 mini lemon pistachio old fashioned donuts. read more

Just came back here today, though these days, I'm mostly here for the Rx at the pharmacy - these folks work hard and are overworked. Their help is appreciated! But the rest of the store is not quite the same - the employees aren't as friendly (it's Des Plaines) and some items are no longer available. I blame these baddies to Kroger, mostly. At least the brioche buns are still decent, Stan's donuts aren't no Vault but still stocked and good enough, and actually made use of my gas points for very cheap gas - cheaper than Delta Sonic in Naperville. Meat department says it grills til 8 and when I showed up at 7:30 said they can't cause they close the grill at 7:30. When asked about the sign he said that's just something manager put up. When asked to speak to manager he was nowhere to be seen. The place is a hot mess. read more

This is our regular Mariano's and we're pleased with it. The clientele and staff are decent and pleasant here. The layout, parking, and inventory is nominal and that's a good thing as it's not odd or awkward like some other locations. One of the unique features here is that this location sells gasoline and it's the only one I have seen that does. I have found though that their competitiveness to our beloved Costco is quite variable. One day it surprisingly matched Costco gas price and arbitrarily on this day it was 12 cpg higher before using our credited Mariano points. Donna is the nice and helpful gas station manager here and she informed me that once you pick the reward option of saving 7 cpg, it's good for one fill up to 35 gallons and you use up all your reward points for the month on your fill up, be it 1 gallon or 35 gallons, so best to fill up an empty tank if you buy from here fyi. read more

Deli and Food Service have gone to shit. When Mariano's first opened they had a variety of imported lunch meats and cheeses. Now they have a bare-bones selection that is laughable. Whenever in charge of ordering from distributors for the deli needs to be slapped and fired. Same bs Dominick's pulled near their end they alienated customers so they could save a few bucks by having the crappiest lunch meats. For the food service they used to make brisket and pulled pork sandwiches with grandma square Italian pizza slices . That has been nonexistent for years they provide 0 tier quality pizza worse than papa John's read more

Clean store with a ton of cafes and specialty foods to choose from. The Vero Coffee and Gelato location is five stars by itself. Staff is sometimes friendly and sometimes not so friendly. This Mariano's has a gas station, which I don't think any of the Mariano's in the city have. And since I live on the north side it's the closest one to me I think. I have let oodles of fuel points go to waste before I knew about them, so I try to use a Mariano's station when I'm in the general vicinity of one of them. You can use your points at a couple of partner gas stations but I don't think I've ever been able to figure out how to get those stations to accept my Mariano's info so it's easier to do it here. All you have to do is scan your rewards card or enter your phone number and then select which months' points you want to use--they expire at the end of the following month. This time I was able to save 40 cents per gallon, and given the high price of gas that was a welcome discount. read more

They would not trade a ten dollar bill for a roll of quarters, They should not sell laundry soap if they are also not going to trade cash for quarters. This just gives me more of a reason to check out other grocery stores and spend less time at Mariano's. It's bad enough you can't even buy hummus on a Friday without it smelling like drunk people at a bar inside of your store. I don't understand how it would hurt your business to help the customers do laundry by exchanging a ten-dollar bill for a $10 roll of quarters. Why should the customer support Mariano's when Mariano's does not support the customer? You guys are making a big mistake. I enjoy shopping at Mariano's. it's one of the best stores in my neighborhood. They have pretty much everything you need. From cooked food to the things that you might be looking for. Great store with lots of different items. Pretty good selection of gluten free items also, even dairy free yogurt and sour cream! My experience at Mariano's was wonderful. I was having at rough day and I came to this location where after doing my groceries I was greeted by this handsome young gentleman. He was extremely friendly and respectful. He noticed that I was a little a upset and he did his best to cheer me up. I received great customer service! Really love shopping at Mariano's. I especially like the meat department. They are very helpful. They are happy to cut the steaks into thin cuts and split the veal chops. We love them thin! They also carry femur bones that make my puppy happy! My wife and I shop here together once a week! We usually have lunch there and then do our shopping. The deli section has a great $7 meal as well as the best Chicken Salad! The bakery section is great too and always delicious no matter what we buy! I'm looking forward to seeing this great hard working again!Will definitely be going shopping here again. read more

Despite appearances, this store is poorly managed. I went in today at 7.30 AM to buy donuts and lettuce. There were no fresh donuts since the baker didn't come in. The lettuce was brown and priced at $1.99 without stating if it was a unit or a weight price. It was per piece with the size varying greatly. Instead I bought corn on the cob and grapes. In the automated checkout, the grapes were on sale for $.99/lb and rang up for $2.99, so I got some help to fix it. The clerk then needed to talk with her manager to get an SKU for the corn, which wasn't in the system. I also get annoyed about virtual coupons requiring an app download. It's not worth paying premium prices for "full service" at a grocery store with poor quality control and poor service. read more

I placed an order yesterday for a chuck roast and went out of my way to pick it up today and guess what, it was not done and they didn't have the size I needed! The worst part no one called to tell me that. Go to Jewel in Park Ridge, great butcher and never issues! 5/5 for convenience and overall shopping experience. My husband and I live within walking distance so we trekked over during the first week of their grand opening. $60 later we were happy with our purchases. Customer service was fast. Employees were friendly and plentiful. I'm sure they have nearly every employee working right now during this hectic time. Will be interesting to see how crowded this place stays after the first few weeks. We probably would have lingered longer if it hadn't been so crowded. read more

This store #541 was great when it was owned by Mariano's. Now things seem to be degrading. Constant problems with long waits at deli. Constant issues with the registers charging incorrectly. Installation of anti-theft barricades. Then this happened... Today I decided to go and buy some spindrifts and beer for the WNCAA game as I had company coming over. I go through the regular checkout register and begin to go out the door with my cart. Suddenly my cart comes to a screeching halt right in the middle of the exit door. Confused, I check the wheels as I thought I ran over something. Nothing in wheels. I hear an alarm and people behind me want to exit as my cart is stuck in the doorway. Still confused, I manhandle the cart and drag it out of the doorway, all wheels locked up. This wrinkles up the rubber mat and as I'm trying to straighten the mat so no one trips, a young worker approaches me and asks for my receipt. Now I'm really confused. Why do they want my receipt, clearly the cart is screwed up? I fumble in my pockets for my crumpled up receipt with people standing around as the door is still blocked. She asks me if I used the self checkout? I say no. I'm still trying to move my cart out of the way thinking I will need to transfer my groceries to a working cart when she tells me my cart is OK, it will work now. This was all an anti-theft measure. She tells me this happens randomly. I was steamed!! I said nothing and walked to my car and unloaded. I then walked back in and went to the customer service desk. No one around! Disgusted I walked out and swore never to return to that store. On the rare occasion I decide to go to a Kroger/Mariano's again, it will be the Arlington Heights store. I have since spoken to the assistant manager and will speak to the manager. I was told that this is a policy in all Mariano's. Nothing will convince me to return. If this policy continues: THERE NEEDS TO BE A VERY PROMINENT WARNING SIGN that all patrons will DEFINITELY see upon entering and leaving the store. My suggestion: if theft is a problem, ...hire someone and place them by the door to check receipts, ala Costco. ...hire some human checkout people to replace the lousy self checkouts!!! I NEVER USE THEM but evidently thieves do!! Nothing like making your patrons feel like a criminal. I have choices on where to spend my grocery dollars. Mariano's is one of the best stores that I like to go to when I want to buy something. The place was so big and the floor was so clean. They also have a huge parking lot. They have a different variety of foods and the selection was full of food and it is organized well. The seafood and meat are so fresh just like their fruits and vegetables. They also have fresh and beautiful different kinds of flowers. One of the reasons why I like Mariano's is they have different kinds of cakes and cupcakes. I love cakes. And Mariano's has the best cake that I've tasted in my entire life. I'm sure you love it too. When it comes to customer service they are knowledgeable and offer their service with a positive attitude.They help me find what I was looking at and help me to suggest what kinds of food is the best. Even after six months I for sure will not be reapplying. I'm doing everything to avoid the management and former manager Nathan. Plus he even said if he has to write me up one more time (FYI, I ABSOLUTELY WAS WASHING THE DISHES CORRECTLY!) he would have me serve customers. That's a big no! Very large store with a very good selection of fresh, items, freshly made items, frozen, refrigerated, and shelf-stable items -- including an interesting and generally unique selection of wines and beers. Bakery and deli have never disappointed us. Many good deals and unique items can often be found here, and staff is always helpful, courteous and respectful. We love the convenience for Mount Prospect and Des Plaines residents -- always plenty of parking, and baggers will pack carefully for local walkers. we have shopped at Mariano's since the day it opened. now owned by Kroger (I believe), the Des Plaines store has gone rapidly downhill. The store is dirty, no employee seems to stay more than two weeks, and the store manager, Bob, is absolutely the worst. More than that, some of the food is unsafe. Specifically, I bought an in-store red beet smoothie that was located in a bed of ice bear the smoothie station (I believe that the smoothie station is no longer active during most hours). I bought the freshly made" red beet drink for my son, who upon drinking it, promptly got violently sick and vomited. I checked the date --it was not expired. i made a special trip to Mariano's to notify the store manager (Bob) as I was worried about others getting sick. I thought they needed to register it with the ILLINOIS sept of public health as well, just in case. Bob was condescending, patronizing, and very misogynistic. He literally couldn't have cared less. didn't apologize and seem to blame us for drinking the product. He was the opposite of a consumer- friendly and caring manager. the LEAST he could have done was to apologize, refund the money, take down the incident and tell me that he would follow up. none of the above happened. I am now boycotting Mariano's AND writing to corporate. again, the jerky manager is named Bob. read more

What in the world is going on at this location? When it opened just over 2 years ago this Mariano's was a gleaming jewel. Today it feels like it is being run into the ground by apathetic management. Ok, they have ALWAYS cut corners at checkout. I have visited at least 100 times since opening in 2017, and I could probably count the number of occasions I felt like there were a sufficient number of lanes open on my hands. I can't recall ever feeling like checkout was significantly understaffed at any other Mariano's. In the last year or so things have seemed to slide downhill around the store. There are sections (especially dairy) that do not ever seem to get enough restocking attention. The salad bar regularly shows signs of neglect. Some items are barely chopped up enough. Requiring me to cut up veggies kinda defeats the purpose of paying a premium for a salad bar! Even worse, this store has recently had salad bar containers with lids that do NOT fit properly. The result, of course, can be a huge mess in your cart or bag. It is hard to escape the feeling that this store is more interested in using up old container lids than in customer experience. I pointed this out to Julia who seems to run the salad bar area and she was practically indignant that I wanted to make an issue of it. As had been mentioned here recently, the sushi has gone WAY down in quality. Unfortunately I am finding this at other locations as well. For the price charged I expect it to be prepared by someone who knows what they are doing. The biggest problem I have been consistently having here is mispriced items. You HAVE TO BE vigilant at checkout if you want to pay the price you see on the shelf in this store. If you point it out to the checker at the time the item is rung up, they are supposed to honor the posted price...but if you wait until the final tally you are directed to the customer service desk where you are likely going to have to wait to get the price you assumed you'd be getting in the store. I have been having this experience more and more lately. I am not exaggerating when I say it happens at least 50% of the time. Recently a customer service manager excused the fact the store was going to overcharge me $1.16 on one of my items as a "corporate issue"! As you can probably imagine, I am trying to visit other (always better) Mariano's locations in my travels around the area. Unfortunately, this location is so close to me that I cannot avoid it completely. Perhaps new management can turn things around here to the point where this place no longer feels so half-assed, but I am not optimistic. read more

Mariano's is a dream. I love this location because it is closest to my house and so therefore, I know and appreciate the layout and can always find what I need. But!! I have to take a star away because the staff is all but falling asleep on the job here. Maybe people don't appreciate my friendliness, but the forced "good" in response to a pumped up and friendly "how are you?" is really sad. And no one believes you! I say you fake it 'til you make it and this whole store could benefit from some fake enthusiasm until it becomes real. Either look into an occupation that doesn't require human interaction (let alone customer service) or bust out those fake smiles because I could really do without feeling like I need to Dr. Phil the staff while I grab my bread and milk. This Marianos location is the best I ever shopped at. Just moved to DesPlaines from Harwood Heights location and this store location is over the top. What a difference from the other location!!! It's like night and day. The staff at DesPlaines location always goes above and beyond to help the consumer. The meat and seafood department is exceptional and Maria at customer service is always so nice and cheerful. This store location would be a great example for other locations. This is my fave lunch spot! Its not as amazing as Bloomingdale (by far the best Marianos I've ever been to) but it hits the spot. They have Todds BBQ, Poke Bar, Sushi station, vero gelato/coffee bar, nods wine bar, gourmet chocolate counter, and pizza...The only thing missing for me is the Oyster bar :( I love the oyster bar in Bloomingdale. For lunch Ill make my own salad from the salad bar and grab a cup of soup or Ill make my own poke bowl. Ive never had poke before and tried it here and loved it! Its filling with out the guilt. The lines are never too bad, but I do suggest coming here before noon when the lunch rush comes in, otherwise it can be hard to find a table to eat at. read more

I am contended on their service. I like their selections of every products. I always get what I needed and always excited to what is something more that they can offer including the sales and great deals. This Mariano's does not live up to the "Mariano's" name. I was in this facility between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. last night and the wait at the registers was horrific; akin to what one sees at Jewel. They were out of brisket. The prepackaged ribs looked dry and shriveled up. Apparently, this location does not have a Todd's BBQ, and it is to there disadvantage. Parking here is quite plentiful, and the bathrooms looked clean. The wi-fi worked well. I hope to avoid this location next time that I am in the area. read more

Every time I visit here in Des Plaines I would always chose to shop in here for my groceries. Recently, I went in here and the store is clean, organized and well stocked. I like sweets and treats and I would always make it a point to buy one every time. I went to their cookies and candies section and I was just so glad that they have a nice selection of it. I got a chance to choose from their various selection. Another thing is that they have a lot of great deals on my last visit, from produce, basic necessities and even wine. My friend love wine so and he visit my place frequently and its just so good that I am able to buy at least 5 wines in a good or I can say a better price that I can share with him each time he visit. read more

I have been going here in Mariano's lately for my groceries and I am just glad that I am able to get everything I needed and so far never had a bad experience. Each time I go in here it is always clean, well-organized and fully stocked. I just buy the basic items and goodies I needed at home that are all available in here with fair and reasonable prices. Aside from this, they has wide selection of baked goodies in their bakery section. It is always fully stocked with freshly baked breads and pastries with a variety of choices. I also like their produce section particularly their value packs which is really convenient and much cheaper. The employees are friendly and helpful. Such a really nice grocery store nearby. It seemed very lightweight, so I weighed it on my food scale. it was 17.5 ounces. so the price is up 30 percent. and the volume is down around 20 percent. shame on you Marianos for cheating your customer base. read more

Ugh I hate writing bad reviews, but my shopping experience was horrible. I bought a pie that was suppose to be $5.00 with the Mariano's card. When I checked out I didn't have my card on me, so I gave the cashier my phone number. Actually gave him two phone numbers. Neither of them worked, so I paid full price didn't want to hold up the line. Went to customer service, the manager told me to do a new account. Didn't work said my number was already registered. There's a shocker!! Now she had to call some number assuming there corporate number or card number. She Was on hold forever, than she handed me the phone to be on hold. I left upset, I don't want to be on the phone it's not my fault your system is messed up. This is what should have been done: The cashier should have gave me a new card, and I could deal with the re-signing up part. Customer service desk should have just refunded the pie difference. Make sure you bring your card or your phone number is in there system, I hope no one else has to deal with what I just went through. read more

Okay, I feel like reviews for grocery stores are hard because I'm not sure everyone's rating the same things. Anyway, I'm here to talk about the soups, hot foods, and bakery. My son loves their chicken and wild rice soup and it is always great from this location. We have gotten hot food a time or two, and while it isn't the most cost effective meal, most times it's tasty and fresh. As far as the bakery goes, the giant Bella cupcakes are delicious. And who can pass up an all-butter chocolate chip cookie?! I don't even know what that means, it can't possibly be made of all butter can it?! I have had consistently excellent service at this location of Mariano's - used to go to the one in Glenview, but I (almost exclusively) go to the Des Plaines location now because of the level of service I receive. My favorite person that works there is one of the managers - her name is Erin, and she is just AMAZING. She loves to come over to chat with us, and give my toddler son (2 years old) a snuggle.
