Well, it's sad when a store reaches this level of a 1 star rating. It's been a hit and a miss for me ever since the store changed ownership. I was there a week or so ago and all seemed okay. Today, not so good. At check out the poor girl even with wearing a mask looked drained. She was wringing up and bagging at the same time. It was up to me to lift the heavy bags up and into my cart. I am able to do that. I realized that only a couple registers were open and no one had bagger assistants and no one was helping the customers. I had the customer service window behind me with 2 women behind the counter. I asked them if there were any baggers to help the check out person as well as the customer? One woman said no. WE ARE SHORT STAFFED AND THERE WERE BUDGET CUTS. I said so then you are expecting elderly people and those that need help to lift all of the heavy bags themselves? Neither woman looked up from what they were doing to acknowledge me. And I am quite sure that they heard me. So much for customer service. This is a tough time for everyone and no one needs to be treated in such a manner. read more

I just fired Mariano's today. I shopped there every week for our family's groceries since they first opened. Today was the ultimate in poor f/u customer service. I do not recommend going here if you care at all about customer service. If you have any issue with the store rest assured they do not care. They get 1 star because that's the minimum to post a review. They get no stars for customer service. Also zero stars for them caring about your shopping experience. I went to a damn scary haunted house Friday night, but it was attempting to buy a loaf of focaccia on a Sunday afternoon from Mariano's new-ish Hoffman Estates digs that was truly terrifying. Honestly, walking in through the west door was scream-worthy. The automatic door swung open and right as I entered I was blocked by a line 12-deep for gelato. Srsly? I mean, it's good, but not block the entrance and forget all fire codes good. I remember E2, and I'm not about to relive it for some jalapeno cheddar bread. Or am I? So I did a quick once over, saw that I was pretty near the bakery, found a good route while maneuvering those motherf*cking kiddie carts that are just about the worst idea ever, and made my way over. I was going to get just one of the smaller muffins, but the bakery girls were chatting and not making an effort to notice other customers, then some guy came up and started barking about how they priced his bread wrong (which they had) and I decided just to buy the big focaccia loaf that was already out and packaged... and that didn't taste nearly as fresh as the loaves I've gotten at the Palatine location, btw. This one actually made my jaw tired to chew, but I still managed to gnaw through half the loaf before I got to my next destination just three miles up the road. So, while the bread wasn't fantastic, it was still better than most of the focaccia you'd get elsewhere. And though it was truly insane to see just how many people were swarming the gelato/deli/bakery/sushi/juice area of this Mariano's, It is pretty neat that you can grab a beer and a sandwich and chow down in their cafe, or set up at a high-top with your gelato, or go belly-up at the sushi bar with single serve sake offerings. I didn't even bother checking out the rest of the store beyond the market area. It wasn't worth it to try and go any deeper into a store that packed with people and because I don't think Mariano's (any of them, not just this one) have much to offer beyond the market area that's all that different from a Jewel or a Dominicks. The prices aren't better and the piano player in the front of the store doesn't impress me in the least. I will say that the beer, wine and booze selection is worth writing home about and I can't even begin to tell you how appreciative I am that they have 2 mini registers in the market area so you can (attempt) to get in and out as quickly as possible. Maybe it's still all nuts because they're only a little over a month old, but hopefully it calms down so you don't feel like you need a billy club to get to the bread selection. read more

Eh.... don't really understand the hype about this place. Really don't think it has the price tag of Caputos or Jewel as I have heard others say, def seems just as pricey as Whole Foods. I understand most of the stuff is organic, but wowza.... Its always jam packed on the weekends -- I once had to wait in line to go the bathroom (and when I was in there so was half of the staff, all complaining about their hours, UGH). The place is very clean and I like that they always have ample food samples around. I would like to try their Sushi or smoothie stations, it all does look very tasty... I'm just not in any sort of hurry. read more

This place is huge! A supermarket wonderland. I love that it has a good variety of food stations from hot foods bar to Japanese sushi bar. They grill any meat you buy! Has a great selection of fresh fruit juices, watermelon being my favorite. I was disappointed at their small offering of cheese though for a store that big-they didn't even have Tillamook! All in all, a grocery store that is like a bigger and better Safeway (or Dominick's for you mid-westerners). read more

Wait you're going to tell me I can shop while having my meat grilled and seafood steamed---how could I go wrong? My shopping experiences in general have been very positive, the only irksome comment I have is the butcher seafood counter does tend to get busy and there seems to not be a really good system of picking up your order once it is done cooking. Other than that----always be sure if you get steaks to under cook a little because as it is wrapped in foil and placed in the paper boxes--they cook some more....just keep that in mind so you don't have an overcooked steak. I do love the $1 mini gelato cup---you can actually ask for 2 flavors so very nice----and if you make 10 gelato purchases you get 1 large gelato free---not bad when you need that little sweet yumminess to get you through the shopping trip. There is always some sort of sampling going on--great to preoccupy the kiddies . I like that they have a very good variety of soups all year long---even when it's 100 degrees outside. I try to shop at off times because I know in general this place gets packed---let me not have to park on the other side of the world to get a parking space. read more

Wow! I was very impressed with this place, but apparently so is half the population of Hoffman Estates because this place was a madhouse during my visit. If I was agoraphobic I would of died from a brain aneurysm I was wanting to swing by today as so many of my fellow Yelpers hold this establishment in high regard, but just getting into the parking lot and finding a spot a quarter of a mile away from the front door proved to be a challenge. I half expected to discover they were giving away free lap dances from the cast of America's Next Top Model. I would recommend parking over on the far side of the building by the Hallmark store, ninja style. After getting inside and checking out the offerings here, I was able to discern what all the fuss was about. This place is glorious! To say that it is like Whole Foods really does not do this place justice, as it is a bit of a hybrid. Sure, they have all the amazing trappings you would expect of an upper echelon store, but you can also buy 2 liters of Shasta Soda for 49 cents too. In short, It functions as a "normal" grocery store as well. As such, it does not give off that annoying vibe of pretentiousness that has been an underpinning of many of the establishments I checked out since I arrived in town. Score one for the good guys. It did take me a considerable amount of time to get the Pastrami, cheese, and ground beef I was looking for though. It was pretty much a take a number and hope your cell phone is good and charged so you can play some games in the interim. I also liked how they had their ethnic foods section in the center organized with the large country flags hanging down for rapid identification. Since I had no idea where I was going as I wandered around, this proved most helpful. I left this place with WAY more items than I needed, so feel free to stop by my place for dinner for the next month or so as I am stocked up like the zombie apocalypse is imminent. read more

I don't know about the rest of the place but their bakery, ready-made food section, salad bar, gelato bar, olive bar, deli & cheese shop are AMAZING. Love, love, love everything we have every tried from those areas. They even freshly squeeze orange juice right there. And have you SEEN all those little lovely cookies? I love to bake but when I'm in a crunch their baked goods are so delicious & well-made. I love just wandering around that side of the store & drooling. Their prices seem in line, for the most part, with the other local offers (except for Woodman's, which has incredibly low prices...but Woodman's is an aberration and not the norm for the area at all). read more

The produce, breads, cheeses, meats, seafood and dairy are always fresh at Marianos. I love coming in on the weekends and trying a new wine or cheese. I also love the fact that if I want to taste something new before I buy it from the deli or cheese counter, the staff is very obliging. They will also take time to answer your questions or help you find sonething in an aisle. Very nice and clean store. Great place to explore and shop. I haven't purchased flowers yet but the arrangements always look beautiful. I LOVE the wine selection here. Affordable and a great variety too, including my favorite reds. Oh, and the chicken pot pies are amazing! I stear clear of the bakery because I just can't be tempted by those delicious and gorgeous cakes and donuts. I've always liked Mariano's hot food bar but today I discovered they have chicken tinga (popular Latin dish) and it was really good! Maybe not as good as my mom's but it was pretty darn close! That paired with some tortilla chips or tostadas makes for quite the lunch - yum! read more

Love going here for fresh squeezed orange juice! Since having their o.j. I cannot drink any other orange juice! Their hot soups are pretty good, our favorite is their creamy chicken and dumplings. Mariano's....what can I say about Mariano's Fresh Market!! I LOVE IT! I COULD SPEND HOURS WANDERING THE AISLES! And I did on their Grand Opening week!! Suffice to say, my local Super Target lost some of my business! :) Mariano's is basically Whole Foods, but a whole lot cheaper! :) They have a NUMBER of departments serving up fresh and cooked items. To name a few: A Juice Bar, if you want some freshly squeezed juice concoction. Or how about the coffee and gelato bar? I haven't tried their gelato yet, just had my mouth-water when I did look at their yummy selections! They have an extensive meat and seafood department and they'll even grill up the meat you choose for you! How's THAT for service!! They also have an extensive bakery with an assortment of freshly baked bagels, muffins, and Italian delicacies that rotate. Their chocolate cannolis are YUMOLA! Their deli department is no slouch either!! They also have a number of fresh food bars: HUGE salad bar, olive bar, and soup bar. Mariano's Cheese and Wine Departments are VERY thorough and could have almost any wine or cheese you'd want!! The crowning glory of Mariano's though is the AWESOME produce department! They have organic and regular fruits and veggies, but OMG the selection!! They have veggies and fruits that I have NEVER heard of before. Brown Bell Peppers? Wha? And they have even exotic fruits like Rambutan! They have a full-service pharmacy as well as the usual grocery fare throughout the store. I love their ethnic aisles as they have quiet a selection of products of different nationalities. My only complaint as it seems is most people's complaints is the layout. I am STILL trying to navigate it, but I suspect I will be able to figure out a plan of attack when doing my weekly shopping. Overall, I am SO happy a Mariano's Fresh Market opened up near me!! Mariano's is a neat grocery store. I wish there was one more conveniently-located to us; they missed an opportunity, IMO, by not having one near Woodfield Mall. The fresh food (bakery and prepared) is awesome. I have my eye (and stomach) on a ham and brie sandwich on a pretzel bun. I had just eaten lunch before we went, so it got relegated to my "to eat" list. Prices are very fair. Check the weekly ads and coupons, as there are deals to be had. I scored asparagus for $1.99/lb, which is about the best price you'll find these days. The gelato caught our eye as we walked in but, again, being full from lunch, we just looked. By the end of our trip, we had just enough space for a little scoop each, and we both went for pistachio. I loved it, my friend wasn't thrilled. We both grew up on gelato in Europe, so it's interesting that we had different opinions (and I'm not a fan of sweets or ice cream, really). For $1 a scoop, you can't go wrong trying. // Update: The ham and brie on a pretzel bun (called The Paris Sandwich) is incredibly delicious. It's located in the deli bar. And then your stomach, if you're smart. Favorite sushi out? The chefs will make your sushi as you request. Done in less than 15 minutes. Now, that is service. read more

This place is amazing! It has practically everything you need. Very clean and very nice selection of quality foods! It's an upscale grocery store, with a salad bar, sushi bar, grill, bakery, and you can even get fresh juices and smoothies too! They even have a musician playing a piano in the front of the store. Great shopping experience! I came for here for lunch and ordered the Turkey Chiplote Panini. It was huge, and all for only $6.00. My Panini could have used slightly more Chiplote sauce, but it was good. I'd get it again. Plenty of other selections! And if that doesn't do it for you, walk around and grab a handful of samples! read more

The service at this store is extremely slow and the people working in the various departments are clearly not interested to doing anything beyond their immediate task. For example, after waiting for several minutes for someone to staff the pizza counter, I asked the nearby person at the sushi counter if anyone was working in this area. Few hours after trying a sample of pizza from the pizza counter yesterday I got really sick. It was a sausage kind... and probably was sitting there long so it got cut up in to samples for everyone to try just to get rid of it. Before moving to Hoffman, one of my local grocery stores was Mariano's. It became my go to grocery store that I would do my weekly shopping at. This location was in Chicago and it was overall a great store. When moving to Hoffman I was happy to see that this Mariano's would be near home. The first couple months of shopping here were okay overall, bu there was just something different than the last location (different in a negative way). As months went on I noticed that I started to despise going grocery shopping, a task that I used to enjoy before. Trips were taking close to an hour and I always left the store in a negative mood. What I had seen happen in the two years of my visiting this store is a decline in the care of the store and product. What I mean by this is.... the store became dirty and unkept. Having my food come from a clean place is very important to me. Having had work in a grocery store myself, I know the realities of what it takes to keep up with cleanliness and appearances of the store. I'm not expecting perfect. But this Mariano's just cannot keep up. My biggest issue with their cleanliness is their grocery belts. Why do they never seem to clean them off throughout the shifts? I have shopped here at least 75-100 times and I can never recall feeling comfortable putting my produce directly onto the belt (I would put it on a reusable shopping bag) because the belts are always so sticky. I don't know about you but I don't like my tomatoes sitting on a bed of raw chicken juice because the cashier doesn't clean their belt off. So although I could spare my produce from touching the belt directly it still got taken off the belt and put onto the scanner to be weighed that guess what.... was equally as nasty looking as the belt! I understand you're a busy store but it should be enforced that cashiers clean their belts off regularly and if they become clearly soiled in between. This is something I made sure I did when I worked cashier and it takes little time to do. Bagging the groceries is a bit of a skill and needs some thought to be put into. Not all, but most, of the baggers do not seem to notice/care how they are bagging the items. They will just throw whatever comes at them into the same bag... cans, bananas and heck through the large heavy jar of peanut butter next the the bread. I became diligent when unloading my cart onto the contaminated belt to arrange my items as I would like to have bagged (ie soft things, produce, jars and cans). This did not seem to help the situation. I always kept a few of the reusable bags in my possession and would try to bag as much as I could myself. The last part of the store I had an issue with was the deli. I myself do not eat lunch meat so if it had been up to me I would probably never have needed to go to the deli. However, my husband occasionally would want something and would ask me to pick it up. What a sickening experience that always was. Remember the sticky covered belts I complained about earlier? Well the deli counter is equally as sick looking covered with finger prints, Little pieces of meat and cheese scraps, and crumbled up deli wrappers. I would suggest that one of the employees working the deli wipe down and inspect it every hour but no, please don't take away one of the two deli employees you have working because then your wait for the deli just became 30 minutes instead of 20. Yes, two freaking employees for any sized crowd it can be 4 customers or 20 they never seem to want to or can call for backup. I have foolishly waited a few times way longer than I should have in the line always with the hope they would be calling for another employee to keep the line moving. Maybe it wouldn't take so long if they stopped feeding the customers a sample of each meat and cheese they ordered. Who doesn't love watching the grown adult in line in front of you sample each of the sliced meats they are ordering for their kids lunch the next day. Yes please touch your dirty cart handle then grab a piece of sliced ham from the deli and touch it with your dirty hands, and then place your now dirty ham hands on the cart handle for the next customer. I have to stop now, I'm getting sick just thinking about it. The only reason for my two stars is the pharmacy. Great pharmacists who are always extremely helpful. I will miss their service as I am changing to a different store. read more

This store is a disgrace. The shelves are poorly stocked. There is junk cluttering the aisles. Employees are miserable. I asked the cashier what was going on, and told her the store is a disaster. She responded that she hears that from alot of customers. I asked to speak to a manager but he/she could not be located. Mariano's used to be our go to store. NOT ANY MORE. I remember the last time where we stopped by in this store to buy something that we needed while we are on a trip. The store is clean and it is easy to find anything because everything is well organized. We just needed a few snacks and drinks and the store has a wide selection of it including the snacks which are our favorite. I went to the prepared foods section hoping to find some good and hot meal but I saw the nice selection of fresh fruit bowls and I decided to buy it instead. We did not take long in the checkout, there is a line but the staff in there is good at his job. Also, the staff in there is actually friendly. I went here for maybe a few minutes and I never seen or experience something negative. The prices are fair and reasonable and their selection of products are quite nice. The fresh fruit bowl I bought was seriously fresh. I got the assorted one and me and my friends really enjoyed it while we are on the road that time. read more

Not the best Mariano's location. Compared to the Arlington Heights location, for example, the produce is sometimes of poor quality or not available at times when I normally grocery shop. The staff is very customer-oriented and often friendly, but the morale seems a bit off, with floor people sometimes bickering in front of customers. Maybe they work too many hours, and need more time off. Pricing is fair for the premium selection and variety of items in stock. Has all the bells and whistles (piano player, fresh bakery, floral Dept, gelato and smoothie bar), but the basics like fresh produce and deli area can suffer. Still my go-to grocery, but there is room for improvement. Meats are very good, and pricing is excellent with frequent seafood, beef and poultry specials. I always take a look for a deal there. read more

I went to Mariano's on 12/30 in the morning and I just have to send compliments to the sweet African American young woman who was overseeing self check out.. I'm ashamed I didn't ask her for her name but she was just absolutely lovely. I had such a great experience even through complication on my register. What a wonderful lady! You also have a young man who works outside who was so sweet and talkative! He was the cherry on top of this visit! He came up to me before I was able to clear my cart to assist me, and talk for a moment and I usually wouldn't care for the help but he was the sweetest man with the most honest kind words he just melted my heart! Great team you have here! I'm sorry you don't get more positive feedback because I left with the biggest smile yesterday thank you! read more

Tonight I went to purchase several items advertised in their weekly ad; i had a few Barilla pasta coupons, the cashier scanned 3 coupons and then started reading every single coupon (which didn't have a limit) it was disappointing and upsetting that the manager told the cashier she couldn't accept anymore manufacturer coupons because the pastas were already in sale. Not sure what the problem is since they get their $ back from the manufacturer. The cashier told me she shouldn't have accepted the coupons but since they were already scanned she would let it go through but wouldn't accept more coupons her explanation was 'you're already paying sale price and they're cheap so we can't accept coupons' I could understand if I was using I for the wrong item or the wrong amount. As I was walking out of the store I noticed other cashiers declining to accept other customers coupons. I do plan to contact corporate to get more information on their coupon policy and to report this incident. read more

My "go to" place when grocery shopping. Walking into the place you'll get the feeling it's an expensive high class place. It is a step above Jewel and Tony's, but prices on most things are actually pleasantly surprising. We love the variety of fresh made burgers. read more

I want to leave a 5 star but I can not. I have purchased items like sour cream and dips that were way out of date. I did not think I needed to check on the dates myself but lesson learned. I go there to specifically purchase a certain coffee cake for my elderly mother And the bakery is out of it more times than they have it. I have made many trips and not gotten it. This should not be big deal to have it all the time. (But it's a big thing to my mom. This is practically all she will eat anymore ) I am not as thrilled as when they first opened. read more

When I first moved to the area I was happy to see that marianos would be the closest grocery store to me...BUT I still always find myself going a little further to jewel! I feel like this place is just always soo dirty. Always leafs and whatever all over the floor by the produce. I'm a huge fan of pre cut fruits and veggies and whenever I buy theirs I feel like they're always smashed and old. I also feel like it's very dark in there. Lastly, the lines are always soooo long! Sometimes when I only want to grab a couple of things I want to go to just run to marianos since it's soo close but then I think about the lines and remember that driving a little bit further to jewel will actually be faster-even though jewels lines are just as slow, they're usually not as busy! Overall it's a good grocery store but it just gives me weird vibes, I can't put my finger on it! read more

Not feeling all the fuss over the store. Tuesday afternoon and there are 5-6 in Front of us in the deli. Only two guys behind the counter. They were having a conversation about not liking the manager. Took forever to get our things. Not much of a selection and no Kretchmar deli meats Now onto the fish and meat counter. Exactly the same with two workers. They have to track a traffic pattern. The fish rang up more than the price on the sign. I was told we need a card to get the better price. Oh. Ok. Seems outdated that u need a card but that's fine. There were some good prices on things but a lot of buy 5 to get the better price. I'm sorry to say but I will stick with Caputos for this kind of shopping. read more

We have been doing the majority of our weekly shopping at this location for a couple of years now I believe. My biggest complaint with this location is the constant absence of employees manning the various stations. Why is there 9 out of 10 times no one standing at the bread station? It shouldn't be difficult to get bread sliced or just get a loaf of bread. If no one is going to be there, then put the bread out for the customers to just get. It's aggravating to go and look for someone. The butcher station has a tendency to be empty of employees if the store is less crowded too. Again, why is that? Seems employees should be even more diligent and available when there is less customers. Disappointing. My last comment is the amount of displaced food products throughout the store. Sometimes we count them and it's almost 20 on a given night. Lunchmeat from the deli counter sitting in the cereal aisle, loaf of bread in the refrigerated section etc. I hope the refrigerated items are not being put back into the fridge after sitting out for who knows how long. Seems an employee could have a full-time job just maintaining the neatness of the store. You probably wonder why we keep shopping here, well it's lesser of 2 evils I suppose. My first experience with Mariano's left me both extremely overwhelmed and very much underwhelmed. I left feeling quite unimpressed, and not eager to return. And here's why... I had been hearing about how amazing Mariano's is from a few friends, and I'm saddened to say it just didn't live up to the hype in my book. It's possible my expectations going in were totally skewed - it had been described to me as a "Whole Foods with Caputo's prices". ((I should have known that organic, natural, froo-froo type products don't come with a Caputo's price tag.)) However, it's fair to say that Mariano's is the perfect blend of a Whole Foods and Caputo's/Jewel/Dominicks. You have a pretty good variety of your local and organic produce and products mixed in with your standard, every day goods ((i.e., Wonder Bread, Chef Boyardee, Kraft mac n' cheese)). I was impressed to find some of my organic specialty items significantly cheaper than Whole Foods. Mariano's also gets major points for carrying Arbequina olives in their olive bar - those are by far my favorite thing in the world, and nearly impossible to find. I also loved their fresh squeezed juice, smoothie station, the great selection of imported cheeses, sushi bar, hot bar, and overall low prices. Although I was overwhelmed with the overall size of the store, it definitely is a one stop shop. Paper goods, laundry detergent, booze, make-up, gift wrap - you name it, they've got it. However, I was totally disappointed to find there wasn't any welfare rated poultry or grass-fed beef from local farms. I will only buy meat from certain places where I'm confident my protein was beaten 15 times or pumped with hormones, nitrates and antibiotics. Call me crazy - but I try to eat ethically and clean. I was also shocked at what a clusterf*ck it was on a Friday afternoon. The crowd itself has deterred me from returning within the next 90 days. Overall - Mariano's didn't leave me with a long lasting loving feeling, but I'll be back in the future to give them another shot, peruse the aisles a little more, and see if I leave a little more impressed than last time. read more
