This is my 2nd time trying this restaurant this year. The 1st time I felt like my pancakes were cold and texture was horrible. Both times were carry out orders. This time I felt like I was being rushed when placing my order. I asked for home fries and got hashbrowns. This time just like the 1st time the food has no seasoning. Everything is very bland. The menu has SO MANY options . I stuck to what I know and ordered a basic breakfast: turkey bacon, eggs, grits and toast. I eyeballed someone else's pancakes and added them to my to-do list. They are MASSIVE, take up a whole regular sized plate and can come with fruit. There's lots of other breakfast things going on too : corned beef hash, all kinds of sausage, liver mush, etc . I absolutely LOVE this place and I wish they were closer to me! I don't get come here as much as I use too because I no longer work in the university area. But when I'm on this side and it's breakfast time. You better believe Maria's is my first choice! I must say, they have to find a way to better the front door/checkout/check in process. Though I call in my orders, and arrive 15-20mins at the suggested time my food will be ready I'm still waiting 15-20mins when I arrive. I know they stay SLAMMED packed and it doesn't help when the front has to handle three different task with two people. This would definitely be my suggestion for the manager to look into. Other than that, I've never had a problem with my food and the staff is always super friend and helpful! And I enjoy ANY place where I can get French toast, grits, bacon and eggs for just $6.49! Came here for breakfast this morning with my team, they order from here pretty often so I was excited to try it out because I love a good breakfast. The front was a little crowed I guess with people paying and take out orders. My team was already there so I was informed they where to the left in the back. They do have two sides for sitting. The menu is prefect, not too much on it but not limited in choices either, and the prices were really good, I didn't see anything over $7 for combinations (but of course with add ons & such you could spend more) but everything was reasonably priced. I went ahead and ordered the Combination breakfast that comes with two french toast, two eggs any style, choice of bacon or sausage patties and grits or home fries. The french toast barely had any color and wasn't as firm as I would have liked (should have asked for it to be well done.) The eggs I ordered fried hard and were cooked perfectly but didn't have any salt of pepper in them at all so had to add that. The sausage patties were really good. And the home fries don't come with onions unless you ask which I didn't know but luckily one of my coworkers told be before my food came out so I asked our waitress if they could be added. They didn't have any type of seasoning on them either so had to again add salt and pepper which I try not to do but the eggs and potatoes were just too bland not too. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food and they said the grits were good. I also heard that they have good salmon cakes so I will probably give them another chance and try those. read more

I went here before COVID 19 hit and have been meaning to write a review because I was very impressed with this slightly "hole in the wall" establishment. It's hard to find a good breakfast spot on a Saturday that's not too crowded but this place was SO ON POINT! Breakfast was DELICIOUS and service was great! Tastes like my grandma cooked my eggs, sausage, and French toast. My 17 year old daughter got the biscuits & gravy and said it was the best she's ever had. Only downside was the blueberry pancakes I tasted more oil than anything, the omelette was great as well as the home fries. The staff was very nice and informative, considering I was so indecisive about what I wanted to eat. The menu is so lengthy, I had a hard time choosing. Just moved to this neck of the woods to the Rockwell Park-Hemphill Heights area, and I see this place on my work during the week. Always has traffic so I figured it'd a cool place. Wrong... I ordered the veggie omelette with cheese, with home fries and a Belgium waffle. The veggies were pale and obviously frozen and the cheese was a slice of barely warm american cheese. The potatoes were chewy and tasted like old grease. They weren't home fries at all, they were just potatoes. No seasoning, no peppers, no onions. Blahhhhh. The waffle was soggy af too.... Run by the wife of the guy who owns Tryon House. Very similar (probably identical) style of food. In my experiences as a kid at Tryon House, the breakfast was great, and the lunch/dinner was hit or miss depending on what you got. And it seems like that carries over here. Came in for lunch after church. We started our meal off with complementary chicken and rice soup. I wasn't really a fan, it was a tad salty for my taste, and it was definitely on the oily side. Can't beat free though, so it's not an issue for me. For an entree, I got the patty melt with a side of fries. The burger was very simple and straightforward, just double patties on grilled rye with melted provolone cheese and some grilled onions. It was executed really well, though, and was definitely the highlight of the meal for me. The meat was seasoned and cooked well, the bread was crispy, and the cheese was just the right amount of gooey and melty. The onions could've stood a little bit more caramelization, but they were by no means bad. And the patties themselves were nice and thick, so much so that I was able to save half for tomorrow. The fries were tasty, dusted liberally with Cajun seasoning. But they were right at the edge of being underdone. Again, not bad enough to not eat them, but they probably could've withstood another minute in the fryer and been really good. All in all, if you like Tryon House, you'll probably like this, and vice-versa. Good food for the price, excellent wait staff, but temper expectations. Also - avoid the mac n' cheese. Tried a bite from someone else's plate. SUPER bland. Like KFC if it wasn't seasoned at all. read more

I must say that I am from Charlotte and I had no idea about this little jewel. My aunt wanted to visit this place for her birthday breakfast and that is how I discovered this place. For starters, our waiter was really nice (can't remember her name) and very knowledgeable of the menu. She explained all the specials and answered all of our questions. We had a party of 6 and she handled us with a breeze. Also, when she packaged our food she wrote hand written messages on each container. I must say that it was great customer service and a nice gesture. I had the 8oz. Ribeye Steak, eyes and grits. The ribeye was cooked to protection as well as my eggs. The grits were good also however, I am very particular about my steak being cooked medium and my eggs scrambled soft and they cooked both to perfection. My aunt had the vegetable omelette and a side of bacon and did not have any complaints. My mother had some type of fish which was the special and she did not have any complaints as well. The establishment is sort of on the small side but it is not unbearable. Overall, I would definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone and it is a must try. read more

After living in the vicinity of this restaurant four years, today I finally decided to check out this dining facility with my wife. This place is quaint with the furniture and walls beckoning for an update. The waitress was friendly. I ordered the salmon patty & eggs and my wife ordered a vegetable omelette. Both of us ordered the home fries. Everything was good, and service by the waitress was average. Total dining experience was average. Came in for lunch today, and the service was good, but the food was better! I had the buffalo chicken tenders as my meal, and the sauce wasn't your typical buffalo sauce.
