This is definitely our "go to" for Mexican food. We used to go to El Felix for their Wednesday special but have switched to "taco Tuesday" at Maria's. There are no"weekly specials" just always excellent Tex Mex with great prices. The food is always fresh and hot and the staff is always attentive and prompt. Love this place. I've been to just about every Tex Mex in Dallas and this would be my "go to". Good warm chips. Possibly the best salsa I've had. Great beef nachos. Great guacamole. Friendly quick service. I had the basics. Taco with beef and cheese enchiladas with rice and beans. Very fresh and fantastic! Totally inhaled it. this is such a great place to eat at. The sour cream chicken enchiladas that I had were very tasty! Not sure if it has a bar or alcohol. I saw a customer come in with his own beer...maybe its BYOB...doesnt matter because I would come back for the food. the salsa & chips were very good...not to spicy and not to mild, it was just right. Our server was very attentive and super uber nice. It looked like they are a very popular restaurant. My honey had the Napales con purqo (cactus with pork) and he said they were very delicious! The flan for desert was awesome!! I'm a big flan fan and I will be getting this again in the future. Rice & beans were pretty tasty too. Now they come for the lowest gas prices in North East Collin County. Maria's is hidden behind the Exxon station on highway 121 near the stop light. Plenty of parking. Lots of tables and booths. Fill up your car then fill up your tummy at Maria's. Pleasant dining experience. Greeted at the door by hostess and seated, This place not only serves beer and wine, You can order premium US and European Beer. I ordered a Heineken, which came with a frosted mug. Heineken is like a secret sauce for Mexican food or Pizza. The luncheon menu has all your favorites with generous portions and competitive prices. I ordered #11 (One beef taco/one beef enchilada w. beans and rice) . It was on the table in less than 10 minutes. It was hot and tasty. It was spiced just right. All the flavors came through. Not over-spiced. The bite of the Heineken complimented the taste of the seasoning. Best Mexican food I've had in years! The chips and salsa came in sufficient quantity and complimented the meal. The large dining area was about half full. Maybe 35 people. About a half of them were Mexican Nationals working on HWY 121 improvement. The waitresses made everyone comfortable and kept things going. It was a pleasant and quick dining experience. Everyone feels welcome. Maria's has been open for 3 years. I only wish that we had tried it sooner. We will be back! read more

Just tried out Maria's new location in Melissa. Wondered if food would be as good there as in the old location. Happily, it was better. The flavor was excellent and the portion size just right. My bride enjoyed the (13) cheese enchilada & sour cream enchilada. It came out hot and perfect. My chile relleno with beef was perfect and the added tomato sauce added just the right amount of spice. The much larger dining area allows for quiet conversation and no having to elbow your way to your seat. Treat yourself and enjoy the atmosphere and great food at Maria's. It's a good thing I had had a few adult beverages prior to dinner last night. On a regular night, waiting 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order would have put me off a bit, but I just chilled and ate my chips. Yup, you read correctly. When we were seated by the manager, she brought us chips, but then I had to get up, get her and ask her if we could get some water or something. Then after getting water, it was another 10 minutes before I finally got up and asked one of the 3 waiters working (on a Friday night) who was our server, to which he replied "I am on my way now". Makes me wonder if I hadn't said anything if I would still be sitting there this evening munching on stale chip crumbs?!?! Not that the chips were stale, they were very good, its just with the salt and the salsa, kinda makes you thirsty if you know what I mean....but I digress. Where was I...oh yes, once we finally got our food (about 40 minutes after arriving) it was fine. Nothing to write home about, but not awful either. For a small town with nowhere to eat, it works. I did notice some tables with beer bottles and coolers, so I guess it is BYOB which will probably encourage me to go back because I will be able to continue my adult beverages there and then I probably won't care how long they take next time either! read more

I will never be back to the Maria's in Melissa the manager was completely rude to my father and me in front of my 2 year old. He stood there arguing with my dad for about 10 mins, by raising his voice during the process. He was also to busy talking to friends to even wait on our table, my 2 year old sat there getting upset because it took him forever to bring her a drink. I will never recommend this place to anyone and I am completely disgusted of the way he treated my family in front of a baby. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Maria's yet. My family eats here all the time and we really love it. Yes, a big part of why I like it is because it's so close to home and it's our own small town restaurant. Usually, we have to give our patronage to other cities in order to eat at a restaurant so I enjoy supporting ours. Maria's recently moved locations and, while the new place isn't as cozy as the old place, they are able to serve a lot more people now. Another reviewer mentioned the velveeta like queso with no spice, and I concur- but I'm so used to that from Mexican restaurants I've come to expect it. The salsa, though, is really good!! Sometimes very thin but always flavorful and somewhat spicy. I always stick with with beef quesadillas--- fajita steak cooked to perfection with melted white quesadilla cheese in a folded over, grilled tortilla. Honestly, the steak is so tender- it's better than steak I've gotten at the high end "fancy" Mexican restaurants. The husband gets different things but he loves the shrimp quesadillas, pork fajitas, and anything with the fajita steak in it. The kid loves their kid burger and, in my bites of it to make sure it's not too hot, (I swear that's why! Hehe) I agree with him. Oh, and the service is always great. We ate there this weekend, and both my husband and I got food poisening and were very sick all that night and the next day. But that was just the icing on the cake! I asked the waitress before we ordered if the kids meals came with drinks...and because of the language barrier, I even asked a second time which she then said yes. Well we get our bill and was charged $2 a drink for everyone. I hope I am not the only one who thinks this is outrageous! And having a family with small kids, I NEVER order them a drink, because I know they will not finish it. So they usually share with us...but because I thought they were included we ordered them. When I went to pay and asked again about them, it was just a no they are not included. Not an I'm sorry, or this time I will refund them, but next time know that they are not included.
