French Onion Soup and Pate de Champagne
    Wendy G.

Marie Louise Bistro is a beautiful setting for an intimate dinner. I would recommend this for a girls night out or a date night. The menu was a little limited, however I enjoyed all the items we ordered and would highly recommend the French Onion Soup. The server checked on us often enough to request refills, more food items, and the check but never felt over bearing. I've heard their happy hour is pretty great, I'll be back to try it out. Parking is typical My. Vernon parking, mainly paid meter street parking. There are a couple of lots around the block as well.

I was prepared to really like this place but it ends up falling flat even with such a simplistic menu. Nothing tasted bad per se but flavors didn't stand out very Bland just okay.

We ate at Marie Louise just a few days ago and I ordered a Maryland Crab soup, an 8 oz crab cake, with a yummy Lavender Collins. The fries and Lavender Collins were perfection for a midday lunch. I prefer my crab cake to be less filling and more crab. For me, that's the only thing that stopped it from being a 5/5. Everything else was great and the waiter was great. I would definitely do back for the fries and drink!

Helen was our professional and friendly Server at Marie Louise Bistro. We had a 7pm dinner reservation and as the place wasn't quite filled at that time, our food came out super quickly. Everything we tried was good. I enjoyed the art on display around the spot. Walk with your cheque book if you're after some good pieces. We actually saw a painting of a street we walked on and it was like looking at a picture. I'm sad I forgot to take a photo of it. Cute, good food, clean and serene, gets my 3.8 recommendation. The End.

Friendly staff. I would say that first it's not an ideal place for a date. The acoustics make it so that you can hear other people's conversations. Feels a little like a cafeteria with haphazard lighting and art work. The food was also very mid. I had no issue with the french onion soup but I would expect them to do that well. The main was a swordfish on top a very buttery risotto. To me, the flaky lightness of the swordfish clashed with the richness of the risotto. Swordfish was also a bit over cooked. The mousse was okay. A bit stiff, but chocolate was very good.

It's unfortunate that I had high hopes for this place. The good: The spot is a vibe. Both inside and outside feel very chic and intimate. There was also live music (which I didn't expect but enjoyed). The bad: I think the service/waiter really impacted our experience (on top of not enjoying the food). Service felt rushed - but also very slow. It took almost an hour to get a cocktail (our food came out before the drinks). When the server came to the table he was there for a milli-second. For example, he brought water - then jetted Away. Then 20 min later took drinks - no time for questions, jetted away. He did not check on us as all. Every time he was at the table he was moving fast but not accomplishing much. My friend's meal order came out incorrectly (also, asked for a slight change on my meal which wasn't honored). I wanted condiments, no time to stop him because you guessed it ... he jetted away! FOOD: I ordered the crab cake sandwich. I ate just the fries. Not sure how the crab cake it made - but the texture was like a cornbread and the crab was almost unheard of. DRINKS: my friend had an expresso martini. Another one was provided complimentary for the long wait time. They were strong (they tasted slightly different). I had a glass of sparking rose before my friend arrived. It was nice.

I was excited to try something new for restaurant week this summer and Marie Louise was on the list. It is a cute little bistro that gives me date night vibes. We were greeted and seated quickly because there was barely anyone there... and I should have taken that as a sign. Usually during restaurant week, restaurants are so lively that you would expect to wait for a table. It was 6pm on a Saturday and only the table next to ours and a few seats at the bar was occupied. Our server was nice and gave us suggestions on what was the best items on the restaurant week menu. The food was very underwhelming. The Maryland crab soup tasted bland and looked light as if it was missing Old Bay. My second course was the Filet Mignon au Poivre with Potatoes Gratine & Asparagus. The filet was cooked perfectly but I did care for the potatoes. Also, the portion size was so small. My friend ordered the duck confit. He also liked the duck but didn't like his potatoes and felt his portion was small too. The desserts were basic and nothing special. I had a lavender collins to drink and barely tasted any gin. I came. I saw. I did not conquer. One and done.

    Crab Eggs Benedict

The crab eggs benedict was honestly so disappointing. The amount of crab given was a mere spoonful and I couldn't even tell there was crab at first. The amount of hollandaise sauce was also shockingly little and was crusted over by the time the dish was served. The potatoes looked like it came from a frozen bag and the 3 pieces of fruit from a fruit bowl at your local grocery market. Service was fine, no complaints there. The ambiance inside is overall nice and aesthetic. But definitely would not recommend coming here as the food was terrible.

The ambience was nice and even though it was mid January, they still had Christmas decorations up, so it was very comfy/cozy. I was part of a party of six on a Thursday evening and we were the only patrons on the first level so it was really nice and quiet. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had the bistro burger and it was just OK. I ordered it medium well and the temperature was not quite what I ordered. The wait staff was very attentive.

I've been for brunch before. Quite a hole in the wall. Shrimp and grits were good, however, shrimp had a funky taste so I asked for new shrimp to be made. Same taste, was told it was the white wine that they cook with, seems it's not being cooked down all the way.

I haven't been to Marie Louise in ages but decided to revisit for brunch with my Mom. The inside is really cute and features a loft on the second floor and a dining room and bar on the bottom floor with limited outdoor seating out front. The whole feel is very "Parisian bistro". The food isn't the best French food I've had in Baltimore, but it was still really yummy. I got the shrimp and grits and my mom got the apple and brie sandwich and the french onion soup. Unfortunately, the staff didn't seem to be very informed about food allergens. When I asked if the shrimp and grits were gluten free, the server wasn't sure. He came back and told me the grits packaging said it contained glucose.... not nearly the same thing as gluten but okay, lol. Grits are naturally gluten free however, I was more concerned that flour might be used in the sauce to help thicken it up a bit - not uncommon for French cuisine. Once I asked a few more questions about the sauce, he let me know it was made with cream and cheese. Great! The shrimp and grits were delicious and flavorful. As I write this review, I wonder if the sausage wasn't gluten free (it might've contained bread crumbs?) but fortunately, I have an intolerance so a small exposure like that won't ruin my day. However, if you have serious food allergies or celiac, this probably isn't the place for you. The servers and kitchen staff just don't seem to be very informed and the vaguely written menu certainly doesn't help. My mom wasn't a huge fan of the sandwich - it seemed like the ratio of brie to apple to bread was all off. The drinks, however, were really great and I'd come back for those!

Walked here for for quick meal because literally everything is closed for Easter. I wanted to work and have a good meal, ordered a burger medium rare and I got a rare burger. They never return to my table. I just got my check and left. I'll let you come to your on conclusion, but it's not for me.

When we arrived, we were seated right away, but it seemed like there were very few staff working--possibly only one waiter. It took about 10 minutes before we finally had to flag him down just to place our order. The food then took around 25-30 minutes to come out, which felt very long since we were on a tight schedule for our flight. When the food finally arrived, I ordered the macaroni and cheese, and unfortunately it was the worst mac and cheese I've ever had. I don't want to be mean, but it was very bland and really needed salt. My sister surprisingly liked it, but it just wasn't for me at all. The rest of my family did enjoy their meals, and I thought the fries were decent, just lightly seasoned. My mom especially liked the grilled cheese. The waiter himself was nice and kept our drinks refilled, so I don't think the long wait was entirely his fault. The restaurant is very cute inside with cozy, old-style vibes and festive Christmas decorations, which I really liked. However, between the long wait times, the limited menu, and my disappointing mac and cheese, I wouldn't recommend that dish. Overall, it's a charming place, but the service was too slow for us--especially when trying to catch a flight.

Since it was New Year's eve, there were few patrons or maybe this is the usual scene? Don't know. But there are some comfy couches by the front in which a young couple with a baby was nursing. Another couple was just finishing up dinner and started to head out. We were the only two diners for about 20 minutes before another couple came in for dinner. There were also about two or three people at the bar. So basically a very quiet place. No one at the hostess stand, only a woman at the bar. She eventually sat us and took our order. Things were slow but not so slow that I would complain. I would surmise that most of the staff was off that evening. Food was also slow in coming so there might have been a small crew in the kitchen as well. We ordered the mezze appetizer. Nothing to rave about. It was just a plate with vegetables and hummus. We both got the wagyu burger and fries. The whole meal was quite decent. The meat was cooked to the correct temperature and the fries were crispy. It was quite filling for me. Maybe it was NYE but everything was quiet and nice.

According to their menu, "We are proudly building a worker-cooperative serving story-worthy food from around the world." There were certainly dishes from around the world, and the menu is very flexible for a variety of diners (dishes are marked as vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and dairy free). My friend and I shared the crispy cauliflower and tahini, which was well-fried and delicious. I also appreciated their drink offerings. My friend and I had and enjoyed a couple of glasses of Lebanese Sauvignon Blanc (from Mersel Wine). I had the Farmers Market Za'atar Salad (cucumber, shaved beet, fennel, pomegranate, pickled jalapeno, mint, fried pita, baby greens, and za'atar yogurt dressing), to which I added falafel. Unfortunately, I found the salad to be quite dry (not dressed enough and then the falafel and the pita crisps just compounded that) and served in a dish that made it quite hard to eat without spilling half the salad on the table. The service was friendly but perhaps not very attentive. I got up to ask our server for the check after waiting for a bit of time for her to make her way to us. I wasn't wowed by the food, but I love Mera's concept and their space. I'd be happy to give it another chance to wow me. I'd also be happy to return for mezze/small plates and wine.
