If i could give this guy negative stars, I would. HOW DOES HE HAVE 5 STARS? He promises me my dress by 12pm on Thurs. I rush out of work to pick up my dress before closing time as this is the only chance I could get it. "What dress?" is the question the guy asks me when I ask for it. So they forgot to do it. Then they tell me to come back in an hour. Who has that time of day? They promise it to me on Friday at 8:30am. I go to pick it up and the owner is completely unapologetic. I told him, this is great, I left work early to pick it up and it wasn't ready. I also said I was supposed to wear it last night. I said, "Can you at least give me a discount?" Owner: "Seriously? It's $20." Me: "Seriously? You were a huge inconvenience for me." Owner: "Well, I forgot." Me: "Aren't you a business? How do you just forget an order? And then you don't call the customer or apologize?!?" Owner: "Fine $18" I threw my $20 on the counter, grabbed my dress and left. ASSHOLE. read more

I'm confused as to how this place could be rated so well. First of all, there is a major communication barrier if you, the customer, do not speak fluent Spanish. (I speak a little, and so I have repeated a few key instructions in Spanish to make sure my meaning was understood). I'm not sure whether it was this communication barrier that caused a recent problem, or just extremely poor attention to detail. Either way, I'm not thrilled with the workmanship I've witnessed to date. Having purchased a $25 for $60 (or something) Yelp deal recently, I brought in a whole bunch of clothing that I'd been meaning to get altered, but hadn't previously had the time. That included: Shortening the straps/ shoulders on two dresses (I have a short torso); shortening the hem on two pairs of pants; adding a snap to a new leather jacket that lacked one on the collar; fixing the hem on a brand-new DKNY scoop-neck top, which had started coming unraveled before I even started wearing it; sizing down a Michael Kors drawstring-waist dress; and tailoring a black skirt so that it looked more like a fitted pencil skirt. Of these eight items, three of these alterations were completely unacceptable - one of them shockingly so: - The tailor made no attempt whatsoever to match the color/ finish of the new snap on the expensive, brand-new leather jacket to the existing shiny gunmetal-grey hardware. The new snap was a matte black (ugly, clearly dirt-cheap) and instantly cheapened the jacket by about $200. I told him that if he couldn't match the finish on the second attempt, I wouldn't pay. - The zippered side of the now-pencil-shaped black skirt was lumpy/ had an uneven seam after being altered. Trying it on made that immediately apparant, but it should have been equally obvious on a mannequin/ tailor's dummy. Back to the tailor it went. - The most egregious offense: The DKNY top's neck hem had, by now, completely unraveled. Not only that, but it now sported a visible hole and new fraying at the edges of the delicate material. Here's the most unbelievable part: It hadn't been fixed AT ALL. I mean not even a poor attempt. It was as if all the tailor did was unravel the remaining thread on the collar, then stop and giggle to himself. I mean, what the @(#(@?!?!?! Even more bafflingly, the Latino gentleman assisting me didn't even apologize or explain. I tried to communicate that - duh!! - the tailor was supposed to fix the hem, not destroy it.... and only through primitive gestures and only slightly less primitive Spanish did I (hopefully?) manage to do so. Moreover, unlike alterations I've had done at local dry cleaners, even the acceptably altered items did not come back pressed, steamed or ironed. They were all stuck together in a hodgepodge without plastic over them. So now I have to go elsewhere to have them pressed..... what a waste of time. To top it all off, even with the Yelp deal, the charge for these alterations, most of which were very simple, totaled another $180 ($240 if you count the Yelp deal). Not exactly a bargain. I asked the tailor to redo the three items I mention above (leather jacket, skirt and DKNY top). When I came back, the leather jacket's snap still hadn't been fixed. The tailor told me to give him another week to try to find a matching snap, and I grudgingly agreed. The skirt and DKNY top now looked okay, but the craftsmanship was mediocre at best. Third visit, two weeks after the prior one: Jacket's snap still wasn't finished. Still ugly, still black. For those keeping track, this is after the THIRD visit in TWO months. I demanded my jacket back, spun on my heels, and left. I will never set foot in this tailor again. And I'd recommend thinking twice about doing so yourself. read more

The service here is great, as the man, who I assume is the owner, is very helpful and friendly. They also stand behind their work. I had two dress pants & two dress shirts that the seam loose. I took it in there asking how much it would cost to redo the seam. This was a great experience. High quality workmanship, good customer service, reasonable rates, and quick turnaround. I was able to get my items altered in less than 24 hours and the finished products were perfect. Overall, this place is the epitome of a great local small business. Part of me wishes I had a job that needed newer clothing on a regular basis, so I could provide them more business. Marin is a nice guy, polite and well meaning. But like other reviews that have had a problem with this business. He's flaky. I showed up on the day he said they be ready. "I forgot". So I came back a couple days later and they were ready. Btw, it was only to have 3 pairs of jeans hemmed up. Not an especially skilled job. And they were botched. The legs are uneven, the stitching is sloppy and very uneven. And he didn't follow instructions to match the hem of all 3 pairs. He has a nicely equipped shop, but the quality just isn't there. I went to this shop as well as the one on Santa Monica Blvd. Both are owned by the same father/son family. Anyways, I met the father and he measured two pairs of pants and did a perfect job. They're not too long that the cuff catches on my heel, or too short that I'm showing socks! Also, I've had tailors that screwed up hemming my pants by making one side longer than the other, or worse, making them too short. So it's great to find a tailor that measurements are spot-on! read more

Nice guys, professional, etc but very pricey for simple suit alterations, and the pants bottoms were hemmed pretty badly. They came undone after a few wearings (my toes kept getting caught in the inner hem when putting them on). Take your chances but be prepared to return. Had to get a bridesmaid dress altered and waited until the last minute to bring it in. It was quite pricey ($235) to alter the sleeves, waist, and hem. I'm very particular about how things fit, and have to say everything I have had tailored with them has been done perfectly as requested. There have been a few cases where I needed something tailored for an event and have dropped off & picked up the same or next day... With no sacrifice in quality. A good tailor should make you feel comfortable about how you want your alterations but unfortunately these guys just want you in and out. Marin Tailor Shop = lifesaver I bought a suit on a Saturday night, came to Marin on a Sunday morning and begged Isidro to alter everything within 24 hours. He is such a bamf he didn't even flinch at my request and responded, "Absolutely, no problem!" THE JOB: I didn't have enough time to have the jacket sleeves shortened at the shoulder seam, which would have been ideal, but he managed to do a great job of shortening the arm ends without getting rid of buttons. He also perfectly shortened the pant legs to graze my heels, creating the ultimate power suit. CRISIS SOLVING: He pointed out a security tag that the J. Crew team did not take off the jacket (are you kidding me??), but he happily went into the jacket seam and took out the tag so I wouldn't develop an ulcer in my time crunch. RESULT: The next morning I rushed over to Marin during my lunch break to pick up. The suit fit like a glove and he quickly ironed out any last kinks so that it would be HD close-up ready. PRICE: I was expecting to dish out three yelp dollar signs $$$ worth for the last-minute request, but instead my total came out to $40. Again, BAMF. I am altering every article of clothing from now on. CHARM: He kept calling me "senorita," adorably explaining that it means "young lady" in English as if twenty some years in southern California did not teach me that. I had my very expensive wool suit (jacket, pants, AND shirt) all tailored here same time. Unbelievable fit, he did exactly how I needed it, slim fit on all of them. He took his time with pinning the fit when I arrived and listened to me. He has a good eye and already knows how it should be before you even say anything. Took about 8 days which to me is reasonable for quality work and three pieces. Couldn't have asked for a better job. Nailed it. Will be back for all my alterations for sure. If you've never been to a tailor as a guy and are confused on where to go and what to say or do, just go here and end the battle. So I had this idea getting Married in a white tuxedo jacket with black lapels. I searched all over town and couldn't finally came across something close but it didn't have black lapels. I brought the jacket to Marin Tailor to see if they could some how add black satin lapels to the jacket I brought. The Pros at Marin advised against modifying the jacket even though there was nothing in it for them. I still wanted the white jacket with black lapels so I figured I'd try my luck online. I finally came across the jacket on Gilt.com, but I knew that the FIT would be a gamble. Well I lost that bet but I took the jacket to the guys at Marin Tailor and they Nailed it! I usually go to the Marin Tailor on Santa Monica Blvd. -- an excellent tailor with great service. However, the streets were blocked due to the LA Marathon, so I did a search and found there was another Marin Tailor (actually related) nearby. I showed the owner what I wanted done and he actually adjusted it on the spot. Never had service like that from a tailor. He was also very honest. Could have charged me $40 for the service, but I came out far, far less. Will be going here for all of my adjustments from now on. read more

I had bought a yellow dress for a wedding and it needed taking in the the arms. Not too big of a deal. Someone had recommended Marin Tailor and I saw they were highly reviewed on Yelp, so I decided to take it here for the alteration, along with another dress that had the same problem and a pair of pants that just needed hemming. He said it would be ready 10 days after I had dropped it off (a Friday). I patiently waited all that time and arrived on Friday to pick up my items, he gave me a confused look and said it "Wasn't ready" and to come back after 4pm. That left me really unsettled, so I decided I would just comeback the next day Saturday. I show up to pick up the items and he told me he had a problem with the yellow dress (the one for the wedding) and did the best he could. (I don't understand...it was just a simple taking in at the armpit). I tried on the dress and it was fine, although he could have done a much better job. AND.. the garmets were wrinkled and all put on 1 hanger. I had to ask for 3 separate hangers. He was not apologetic, and $83 dollars later, I still have to take my dress to be pressed. WILL NEVER GO HERE AGAIN. Liberty Cleaners on Sawtelle is amazing and they do a great job with alterations and are much more friendly and reasonably priced. I should have stuck with them. I have told my friend who recommended Marin to please take her business elsewhere. read more

Don't worry that the place doesn't look all that great. They can do a very solid job, for a fair price, in a short amount of time. I've trusted them with shirts being taken in, pany cuffs, and the like. They only dart shirts, they won't take them in from the sides, but that's a rather small complaint.
