This was the worst service I've ever experienced. They got the sizing wrong and handled the situation with a very poor attitude.

Phenomenal work that truly went beyond my expectations, by far. Jose and Johnny added 4 inches to the waist and hip measurement of my Kapital Kountry Motocross jeans, getting the jeans from a 32-33 waist to a 36-38 waist US Men. The pictures speak for themselves. The employee did not understand the sizing when I asked them to fix the shirt and altered it incorrectly. When I went to pick up my order, the owner was very rude and refused to acknowledge their mistake. They were also extremely impolite throughout the situation. read more

I am incredibly disappointed. I have been coming here regularly for the past three years, trusting them with all my tailoring needs. Most of the time, I just need hemming on work pants, which typically costs between $15 and $25. Last week, I brought in a dress that only needed an inch taken off the bottom. It was a very basic alteration. When I came to pick it up, the gentleman at the front (possibly an assistant) asked the tailor for the price. The main tailor always seems to make up prices on the spot, and it is never consistent. This time, the assistant told me it would be $50. Thinking that must be a mistake, I asked if he meant $15. He checked again and came back with the same price of $50. I expressed my concern, since I have never paid anywhere near that much for a basic alteration. The tailor came out and was completely unsympathetic. He brushed me off and said, "It is double lined." I replied that he never told me there would be an extra charge because of the lining. His response was, "People know double lining costs more." That kind of response is completely unacceptable. If I had known it would cost $50 just to shorten a dress by an inch, I never would have agreed to it. There was no transparency and no effort to explain the cost ahead of time. Unfortunately, this experience completely changed how I view this business. I will be going elsewhere from now on, and I recommend others do the same if you want clear pricing and respectful service. read more

Wow! I can see why this place has glowing reviews. I'm so glad I went with them. I had a dress tailored with them. I had it hemmed, a split added up the thigh, waist taken in, and sleeves hemmed. The dress look amazing! It fits so beautiful. And the price? I couldn't believe it! I guarantee you, you won't find prices these low for the quality craftsmanship. Did me a solid and put a rush order on my denim hem. The work was solid, on time, and extremely reasonably priced.

Jose came to my rescue, I ordered a dress online for a last minute wedding & it was way too big. The dress is layered with ruffles so tailoring was not easy, I also needed a fast turn around of about 3 days before I leave. First place I took it said they couldn't do it wouldn't look good & I should just buy another dress, second place wanted to charge over $100 it's a cheap dress so didn't want to pay that! Third & last try Jose came through! Very reasonable & affordable pricing, dress looks amazing! I told him I didn't need perfect but it's perfect, you cannot even tell its been tailored. We have been using this tailor shop for the last 5+ years and up until recently they did a decent job. In the last 6+months, we have noticed a big drop off in the quality of work. Examples being uneven hemming of pants, and other pants being too short so that there was no material left, therefor pants becoming useless and damaged. We have become aware that Jose is outsourcing the tailoring jobs to a third party. Jose the proprietor has become very moody and unappreciative of the business that comes in. I am sorry to say that I would definitely not recommend this long standing business. There are many other tailors in town and trust me you are better off in going elsewhere which is what I will be doing. read more

I recently needed to have a pair of pants hemmed with the waist taken in a bit. The pants were perfectly tailored and fit quite well. After reading stellar José Tailor Yelp reviews, it was a no-brainer to take our alterations to this well-established local business. Hubby, tired of his cashmere coat, thought it looked much better on me. Well, it does but the sleeves were too long, shoulders too droopy and well maybe it would work with the buttons moved over. And he needed to have the two pair of jeans I bought him shortened. We found metered parking on Westwood Boulevard right smack dab in front of José Tailor. José hard at work nodded and smiled while his assistant listened carefully to our requests, assessed the work we needed done but it was José himself who took the measurements, marked our garments and gave us a generous first-time-neighbor discount promising our clothing would be complete on Saturday. Now we dropped off late Thursday afternoon and found that turnaround astounding! As astounding as the quality workmanship - coat looks GREAT, as do the jeans! My new trusted tailor! When I couldn't find a single navy bridesmaids dress for a wedding, I took a chance on having a beautiful vintage lace dress with a full swing skirt tailored to fit. Jose is fantastic! I purchased a sample sale wedding dress and needed a bit of alteration. I brought in my wedding dress to get it altered. It was a bit risky at first because I didn't see many reviews about his work on wedding dresses, but I had called another tailor, and he recommended Jose for the job. When I brought in the dress to him and tried it on, he was very confident in the work that needed to be done. It needed to be shortened (and the skirt part is very lacy!), and the top was a little too loose and needed a complete change to add a zipper. There were other details that he noted that needed to be altered. He also added a bustle for me. When he told me it would be $300 to complete the alteration, I was ready to let him get started. I brought in the dress in February after researching many other tailors. Most others were marketed as wedding-specific tailors, and prices were sky-high. I was quoted from about $400-$600 -- primarily because they would have to deal with lace. What a relief to find Jose. On the other hand, I was a bit nervous about how it would turn out. I just hoped for the best! I had two fittings with Jose after I first brought in the dress and left it with him. He really listened to my feedback during the first fitting. I liked what he had done with the top to make it tighter and to include a pretty much invisible zipper, but it was a little too tight. When I tried it again during the second fitting, he had come up with another solution, and it fit perfectly. Jose was so kind throughout the process! He even offered to sew on a decorative belt for me if I find one and would later like to add it to my dress. He gave me a recommendation for a place to shop for belts as well. It's not yet April, and the dress is already complete, and I've brought it home! I'm so impressed with Jose's work and would gladly recommend him for wedding dress tailoring! He definitely knows what he's doing. (Side note: He used to have another tailoring company and had many Yelp reviews there but had to restart with this new page due to some business changes. So fear not -- although there are few Yelp reviews now, he's actually been in the business for a very long time!) Thanks so much, Jose! He does accept credit cards, but I think he does give a slight discount if you pay in cash. I ended up paying just under $300 because I paid in cash. Street parking is fairly easy -- plenty of spots right in front of the shop. It's right next to Bristol Farms, so it's not too difficult to find! read more

I went in to get a bridesmaids dress hemmed. My friend recommended Jose' because she said they did a good job and they were affordable. This is NOT the case. Not only was my dress not ready on the date it was promised but they charged me $80 for a hem, when my friend was charged $50 for a hem and getting the waist on the dress re-positioned. I also asked for a quote on how much it they would charge an they kept saying they would get back to me and never did. I am beyond unhappy and the cost of the alternations are almost the same as the cost of the dress itself. I would not recommend going here for dress alternations. read more

Jose is a wonderful part of Westwood. I normally go there to get jeans repaired but last week I brought my beloved purse that was slowly falling apart after daily use for about twelve years. It had no labels on it - I had no idea where to get another one if that was even possible. Out of desperation I brought it to Jose and he did a fantastic job of sewing and patching it up.
