And the attention to detail and care is unmatched. I usually get hard gel done every few weeks at another salon that I love, but I decided to try this place after calling to make an appointment. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I believe I spoke with the owner on the phone, and she was very kind and welcoming.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Unfortunately, my experience at the salon was disappointing. From the start of the appointment, the technician I was paired with seemed unusually rough. She repeatedly pulled my fingers aggressively and worked on my cuticles very quickly. I arrived with healthy cuticles and left with a swollen, painful one that had been cut far too deeply. At one point, my cuticle began bleeding heavily. The technician continued working without acknowledging it, repeatedly dabbing at it before eventually applying a powder to stop the bleeding. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was quite painful but I didn't say anything because mistakes do happen. I understand that accidents can happen, but what surprised me was that there was no apology or acknowledgment of the situation.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When she began applying the hard gel, I politely asked, "Do you think we should avoid putting hard gel on this nail since there's an open cut?" She looked confused, as if she wasn't aware of the cut she just made cutting my cuticle, and then called over the owner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]After speaking briefly in another language, the owner told me, "No, it's fine you just have a sensitive finger."[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I responded that my concern was the possibility of infection since there was an open cut directly around the area where the hard gel was being applied. I was told not to worry which is fine. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What was frustrating was that it didn't seem as though the technician had explained that the cut had occurred during the appointment. The issue wasn't a "sensitive finger"... it was a cuticle that had been injured.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The technician repeatedly smirked and laughed throughout the remainder of the appointment, which made me feel uncomfortable and as though my concerns weren't being taken seriously.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I rarely write reviews, but this experience felt important to share. I've been getting my nails done for years at various salons and have never had an issue like this. I had an appointment on a holiday President's Day. The salon was very busy and they took me about 20 mins late. The manicurist Chelsea rushed through my nails. The cuticles were not done well with skin still coming out around the ends. I came in with a picture of inspiration and Alice helped recommend colors that wouldn't be sheer and match. They are busy here, so call ahead and schedule an appointment. You might need to wait a bit, for example I was 15 minutes late and that kinda pushed me to the next slot, but I was fine with that. They were super fast once they started!! This isn't close to me (~20-25min), but I'll be coming back here when I want my nails done again! I had some nails that were shorter than the rest and they added tips to even it out. I tried Marina Nails on the recommendation of a good friend. I'd been having a really hard time finding anyone in SF to do acrylic nails and more specifically, do them well. I am so happy with my new nails! The length, shape, and thickness are exactly what I was looking for! The pricing is very reasonable and the staff is very friendly. I do need to warn others that there is a customer here that talks very loudly on the phone and does not have any respect for other human beings. After 5 minutes of her loudly talking into my ear, I politely asked her if the call could wait. She gave me a nasty look and shook her head. I asked her again several minutes later and she completely ignored me. The call went on for at least 15 minutes (and probably longer after I left) and was not urgent in nature. The nail salon is not the place for lengthy, non-urgent phone calls, and if you are going to make such a call, the least you could do is try to speak quietly. People go to a spa to relax, and I am blown away that this woman thinks the rules of common decency do not apply to her. I asked the manager to please never schedule me when this customer is coming in, and she said she was very sorry and would not schedule me when that customer is coming in. I am giving the salon 5 stars because I received great service and am happy with how my nails turned out. I look forward to my next visit, when I can enjoy a relaxing spa experience that does not involve sitting next to this pile of garbage disguised as a human. read more

COVID mani/pedi review! Book this place! I was thrilled to see that nail salons opened after a LONG six months. Health concerns are still real but I feel as if Marina Nails has opened in a thoughtful and careful way. I called them around 9am and they picked up right away and booked me for a lunchtime appointment. Nail appointments are real now, not like pre COVID! They took my number and asked to call if I couldn't make it - it's a new era. When I arrived they took my temp, gave me hand sanitizer and seated me in a (very clean) seat with a large body shield in front of it. The pedicure was perfect and the gel manicure was flawless and quick. Everyone working there seemed happy and welcoming. Read below for what's worse. - Biased towards fair skinned clients. There is a clear favoritism in their demeanor and the owner doesn't hesitate to curb the staff when they *very obviously* make fun of clients who are people of color. This sort of behavior is certainly not posed towards fair skinned clients. No amount of kindness, tipping, asking about their family back home etc will make the staff respond with kindness and compassion. They seem to not want to be of service to anyone other than who they consider superior to their own selves. In other words, a textbook racial bias but observed from a group of immigrants looking upwards at their clientele and being selective that way. - It is akin to a Vietnamese sorority house. If they don't like you, there doesn't have to be a good reason, they simply don't and you'll know it. I've gone there for way too long and have decided this type of unwelcoming bias is not worth it. I'm happier paying more for friendly other salons just down the road and even making an appointment. read more

Sandy, Alice, Tina, Chelsea, and Cathy are all stars: friendly, honest, accommodating, and, last but not least, extremely talented. They've told me when my nails can't be painted due to breakage, and are fast to fix any issues (on my part, because I'm clumsy). My gel manicures and pedicures last for ages, the combo of price + quality can't be beat (trust me, I've been to many salons in the city), and the vibe is great. Is it uber fancy with mimosas and massage chairs? No. If I want a mimosa, there are oodles of actual restaurants down the street. If I want a massage, I'll get a real massage. First time here on 10/29. Booked an appointment the day before for 5:30pm. They took me on time so I recommend booking an appointment if you can so you can avoid rush hour times like after work. There were a few ladies that came in around 6ish and I could feel the nail technicians get a bit overwhelmed. They had proper covid procedures and had everyone sanitize and temp check. There were plexiglass barriers between you can technician. Nail techs did a standard job. They were quick and efficient. I came in with terrible looking nails and came out a brand new person. $54 for gel mani and regular pedi. You can pay card/cash/Venmo. Would definitely come back again. read more

CHEAP! My nails literally turned yellow/brown. I read online that its probably due to cheap equipment/ under or over exposure to UV light during the drying process. Sometimes they might even turn yellow due to over-curing at UV light. I went back and showed them my nails. They were going to charge me to redo them!!! Also they tried to cover it up by saying "your clothes might change the color" "in the future you should only do dark color gel". Ive done light color gel before & this hasnt happened... Im kinda disappointed because this is a close neighborhood location, many friends said good things about the staff, and I like supporting local small businesses.
