Farm~to~table type joints are my absolute favorite types of places to dine. We came here for dinner after attending an organic establishment just off highland. We came in with growling tummies. Rebecca was our server and she let me know that indeed the dishes are made fresh in house. The quality of the food did not disappoint. They had enough staffing to handle the small restaurant. It's its own stand alone restaurant however it has a cozy hole in the wall feel to it. We parked along main street just one establishment down from it. I was told they ran out of the apple spice ingredient for the Mule but they did have the Turquoise Barn Peach Cider so I had that instead. I'd definitely like to come back to dine here again and maybe try their seasonal Mule then. read more

The food, oh my the FOOD! Simply amazing! This is a farm to table restaurant, which is what attracted me to it. I had the caprese grilled cheese and tomatoe bisque soup. Lawd help me it waa DELIOUS! We've been coming to Ramona annually for decades and to this restaurant since they opened and they've been consistent every step of the way! You can tell the owners take pride in what they put out of their kitchen! We had reservations for Saturday night at 6 PM. The restaurant is very simple yet nicely decorated. We were greeted at the door by a very happy young woman who was very busy. She was working on 2 take out orders simultaneously while hosting. The restaurant was packed full, and there were a few people behind us waiting to get into the door and since our table was cleared (but not quite set up) we asked to sit down so that the other people behind us could get through and she was more than happy to accommodate us. There were about 5 female servers on the floor and they were handling everything; hosting, busing tables, serving, bar/wine tending, etc. The owners wife (also a chef) was walking around the restaurant asking people how their food was, and she headed back to the kitchen to help there! To be honest, after we were served our food, at least four people ask us how we were doing. Our server was Megan and she was very friendly, quick, and polite. Two of us ordered their FAMOUS boneless fried chicken plate, which has always been absolutely delicious; not greasy, and you can taste the freshness of the farm raised chicken, along with the spices the chicken is marinated with. Plus the crispy chicken skin is the perfect topping. The chicken is served with creamy potatoes and roasted vegetables, which were delicious and perfectly cooked. My husband had the fish and chips; the fish was fresh and flaky, the batter was not greasy, fries were crispy and seasoned perfectly! We had pistachio dark chocolate chip cookies for dessert that were served warm and weren't overly sweet yet absolutely delicious (so much so that we ended up taking two more to go!) it was my sister's first time there and she was pleasantly surprised by how delicious that chicken dinner was and I must add that they have not only kept their food consistent but kept their prices reasonable; they're not gouging like some places. read more

4.5 stars. Taking away 0.5 stars for the parking/wait. Ok so maybe this may be my post-hike palate talking but this place has DELICIOUS food!! We got here around 11:30 am and it was pretty busy too!! The servers were very nice and friendly. Our group was quite loud so I do apologize about that. We got a bunch of things - mimosa flights, the apple spice mule, the butter flight, the veggie scramble, the pork skillet, the avocado toast, the baked cinnamon French toast, and the grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque. EVERYTHING was amazing!! Very fresh, well-seasoned and perfectly cooked! Personally, my grilled cheese wasn't just a regular grilled cheese but a caprese grilled cheese. I won't be able to go back to the regular grilled cheese now! The tomato bisque was perfect in consistency, not too tomatoey and the kind of warm that seeps through your soul. My friend's avocado toast was the other favorite at the table - perfectly smashed avocado on brown grain bread with an egg on top. YUM!! The butter flight is truly a flight that soars. The bread is soft and crumbly, a little sweet and little savory. It comes with 3 butters made at the restaurant - I tried the coffee and the berry butters and they are delicious! The berry one just tastes like berry ice cream :) The mimosa flights deserve their own paragraph. There were 4 mimosas and a good amount in all 4 glasses - the original, lemon, pomegranate, and the cider. All of them were delicious and pretty strong but my order of favorites from most to least is: cider, original, pomegranate, lemon. I love lemon drinks but this one didn't have much lemon in it. So I had to put it last on the list. This is a fantastic place. The ambiance is gorgeous too. I highly recommend coming here if you are in Ramona. read more

After a trip to Julian during apple season, we were ready to leave the crowds behind. We decided to eat in Ramona and chose this wonderful place because we had our puppy with us. The food was fantastic and the prices were more than reasonable. They are unpretenous, but the food was superior. We had a charcuterie board, soup, and their sumptous grilled cheese. All was wonderful and plentiful. I would love to try more of their menu. Well worth the visit. read more

It would have been great for her to say that we ran out of glasses so when they came available we could get drinks, but after 15+ minutes of the service staff avoiding us I had to go find out. Loved having breakfast here on the weekend. Nice ambience, very cozy. Servers were on top of everything with plenty of coffee refills. Loved the menu. Some of the usual breakfast items but a lot of others that all sounded great. The eggs Benedict with pulled pork on a tortilla was awesome and huge portions. The scramble with spinach, sun dried tomatoes and goat cheese was my favorite. Served with crispy home fries and delicious Pullman toast. The iced tea was unique and tasted herbal and delicious but definitely had caffeine in it. This place serves really good brunch food. I got the chicken and biscuit. The biscuits are sooo soft and buttery, definitely one of the best biscuits I've had. The fried chicken was well seasoned, tender and juicy. The sauce was a cheese base with some peppers and really tied the whole dish together. Servers are very friendly, ambiance was cute and cozy. Wow, wow, wow...that about sums it all up! We were driving through Ramona on a Saturday and decided to stop somewhere for breakfast. After looking at Yelp, we settled on Marinade on Main. Boy, are we glad we did! Here is what we liked: - Great outdoor seating, well spaced out - Interesting menu...sure they have the standard breakfast fare, but they also have lots of items you wouldn't find elsewhere - I ordered the Chicken Biscuit with an extra egg on top...it was amazing! It had some of the most moist chicken I've ever had while eating out, it was only lightly breaded, and the biscuit was to die for. The cheese sauce was good too, and I asked for it on the side so I could use it sparingly. My wife ordered the Bacon Benny, which was incredible too. The bacon was sooo good, and my wife had asked for her eggs to be poached medium and she said there were done perfectly. The potatoes on the side of her dish were good, but nothing out of the ordinary. - Service was very good and attentive Bottom line: Next time we're in Ramona we'll be stopping by Marinade on Main again...we can't wait! read more

Went to visit my longtime friend in Ramona for the day. She recommended Marinade on Main so we headed there for lunch. They had a number of tables set up out back with a large canopy for shade. We waited for a table to become available and were seated. I must say the menu was filled with interesting farm to table bites and meals. It was rather difficult to make a decision. I ended up making a command decision and settled on the herb fried chicken plate. It came with 4 large pieces of chicken and one fried skin, roasted vegetables and red skin mashed potatoes. Everything was delicious and I was super excited to be able to take the rest of my chicken home for the next day! I definitely recommended this restaurant. Excellent lunch away from the SD Zoo Safari Park!!! A 15~20 min drive from the park to Marinade is a breath of fresh air through the beautiful scenic drive on smooth winding roads, worth it just to drive through the wine canyons. And a well needed lunch break after all the walking in the park, to recharge, and go back to finish up the park. Arrived ~15 mins before 1pm on a Saturday. Found a street parking spot on Main St (parking spaces are huge in Ramona!) and strolled into the place. Cute rustic small restaurant was already about 2/3 full, and remaining tables had reserved signs, except for maybe 2 tables. We got lucky and a non-reserved table just cleared, whew! Super friendly folks here, young gentleman helped us get seated after getting the table ready. A super sweet lady (think her name was Tiffany) was patient to allow us to pour over the menus (so many choices and all sound so delicious!). To make it extra difficult, they were still offering the brunch menu as well as allowing to order from the dinner menu (I guess weekends go from brunch to dinner at 1pm). Many enticing brunch items, but decided to tackle the dinner menu since kid wanted pasta after all the exercise, lol. Went for 3 items. - Signature burger = got it cooked medium and the fresh beef patty was thick and juicy and perfect. I was a tad bit bland but allowed for appreciating the quality beef patty. Dip in ketchup or ranch if need to add a bit more flavor. Came with a ton of delish fries too! - Alfredo pasta with fried chicken = super crispy fried chicken, yet not dry meat. The cream sauce on the pasta was a little bit creamy, garlicky, and not sure what else something comforting familiar flavor that I can't describe. Lingering delicious flavor! There was plenty of food for all 3 of us to take bites and there was still another kids meal of pasta left at the end. And even after we paid the bill, kid took another bite and that made me also take another bite too through my fullness pain before we left. Walked back to car and the residual flavor of the pasta made me salivate again and regret not getting the remainder to go! (figured it's not gonna do well sitting in a hot car for hours back at the park). - Grilled cheese sando w/ tomato soup (tried it Marindaes Style, cause... why not?! sounds a bit weird but interesting?) = wow wow wow!!! Wife loves tomato soup and grilled cheese, but this seemingly simple order ended up being my surprise favorite of the 3!!! Tomato soup was super fresh and quality, but I'm not much of a tomato soup person. Wife enjoyed the soup. I was just blown away by the grilled cheese, not that I eat much of it, but easily the best grilled cheese I've had! The jalapeno provides a burst to cut through the richness of the grilled cheese. And I think it's that toast that contains all that gooey flavorful goodness. That bread itself is a cheese toast full of flavor!!! It took me back to the 80's, to when mama used to take us kids to Sizzler and my favorite thing was their cheese toast. But the last few times I've tried Sizzler years ago, I felt the cheese toast was just mediocre. I just concluded my tastes have been ruined by age and maybe cheese toast was junior high taste, lol. This place totally blew up what I thought was Age-Related-Taste-Degeneration! The cheese toast brought back the 80's taste and MORE!!! Better than ever!!! Flavor still lives!!! Absolute gem of a grilled cheese... - So many more on the menu that I wanted to try, but will have to try to tackle it next time if I ever go Safari again...
