My taco salad, which I got with chicken, was fantastically marinated with tender, flavorful chicken with tangy and slightly rice-vinegary sauce. The cabbage slaw was perfectly fresh. Although there are multiple Marinations around Seattle - this one, by far, has the best view of Seattle! Like every Seattleite, we came here on a sunny day for some bites and drinks and to enjoy the distant view of the Seattle skyline. It's really the selling point here, and is worth taking visitors to. But the place gets busy. I mean, really busy. The kind where a line outside the door is a norm on a sunny day. But if you're not in a hurry then it's worth the wait. Plus, there's a private parking lot, which in Seattle is always a win. You order at the counter and are given a buzzard for when your food is ready for pick-up. AND, there is a separate bar to order cocktails, with a private indoor and outdoor patio. For me, I ordered the special of the day, the Aloha Fries and a margarita. The Aloha Fries were solid. The best part, as it should be, was the kalua pork. It had that smoky flavor you get from a roasted cook and was tender. In addition to the pork was an aioli sauce, sriracha, a perfectly-cooked fried egg, green onions and a blend of special spices that were a tad too salty for my liking; yet overall, the fries were good to snack on for a group. To top it off with a margarita just made it all the better, and liked that it was stiff on the tequila! There's plenty of outdoor seating around, including the adults-only patio, adjacent to the bar area. Most importantly, the entire area is dog-friendly! Where Marination Mai Kai is located is also right next to where the West Seattle water taxi arrives/departs, so there's public restrooms nearby and a dock that looks out to the Seattle skyline. Five stars for the view on the patio! This place is a cool place to grab some good food and drinks, and relax in front of the water and Seattle skyline. Perfectly situated on Alki with amazing views and even better food. We randomly ended up at this spot while we were on the way to Salty's and decided to check it out. We ordered a few things to snack on and found a nice seat on the patio that overlooks the beautiful Seattle skyline. I was pleased to see their Korean influences in their dishes and knew I needed to try it out. We ordered the kalbi and spicy pork tacos, kahlua pork slider, fish tacos, and a spam musubi. I really wish I got to try the Portuguese sausage musubi but they were out when I got there. Their kalbi and spicy pork tacos were really tasty and their signature slaw on top of their tacos was light and crisp and added the perfect bite to these tacos. They are a bit on the smaller side so make sure you order more if you are feeling extra hungry! The pork slider was pretty good but was a little bit on the dry side. The fish tacos were also very delicious and had a miso sake glaze on it, then grilled. These were topped with red onions and cilantro and had a Korean-style crema on top. Delicious! The spam musubi was also very good so no complaints there. All in all, the food made us wanting to order more but since we had another meal lined up, we weren't able to indulge. A short ferry ride away from downtown Seattle, this spot is great for its food and views of the Seattle skyline. There was about a 20 minute line to order at the counter after getting off the ferry, but the food came out in about 5 minutes. The Aloha Fries and Luau Plate with ginger miso chicken were amazing. Love the view, the food is good (but hyped), lines are ridiculously long, parking is hard if it's a sunny day and service could be a whole lot better. Since my last review, I have to update and give Marination Ma Kai a three star rating. The tacos are $3 per taco (that has a double shell tortilla). So 4 tacos are about $12. The Kalbi Beef taco was not marinated well, I prefer the Miso Ginger Chicken a lot better. I had the infamous Mac Salad which wasn't different than what I've had in the past so I'm not sure if it was just an off-day for the chefs. Kimchee Fried Rice, everyone's favorite, was not that great this day. There was hardly any cabbage in it and the rice was in globs/chunks. The drinks were okay. They ran out of the Alki P.O.B. so I ordered a margarita that was $9 and half ice. Draft beer runs for $7. Service was quite rude at the food checkout when my boyfriend asked a question about one of the entrees. The bartender is pretty slow at the bar... He was friendly but could carry on conversations with customers to the point people in line were annoyed and there was about 7 of us mobbing the bar area for a drink. Sitting outside was nice but the tables weren't wiped down and was sticky bees kept coming around.. We eventually moved inside which still had a nice view. The floor inside had two puddles of water. Gorgeous location on the water and great food, but a quarter the price or less of the fancy-pants Salty's nearby. Before they had a physical location they won a Good Morning America competition for Best Food Truck in America, and they're that good. My wife loves the fish or tofu tacos. I love those, but usually get the Kimchi Fried rice. We usually eat in the covered outdoor patio, which has been especially nice during COVID, or at the picnic tables just outside. I could give 5 stars for the Hawaiian shaved ice itself. The ice is shaved so fine and smooth, no chunky garbage ice from wannabe places. The mango guava combo flavor is amazing. The passion fruit is a bit more tart than expected. Looking forward to trying their other flavors. For the rest of the food, the menu mimics Marination Station in Capitol Hill. Overall the Hawaiian/Korean fusion is quick and straight, not too much wow factor (maybe a bit overrated?), not too much to write home about. Views of the water and Seattle are great with a decent amount of outdoor seating out back. There's a small parking lot right in front, but chances of finding a spot there are almost impossible. I wanted to try their famous Aloha Fries but I guess they stopped making that so I settle for a couple tacos. Juicy, tender and well marinated Marination. The rest were alright, and the spicy pork didn't have much of a kick to it. The tortillas were warm and soft which is always a good thing. What about them drinks though?! The Lychee Margarita (with li hing powder rim) was alright, it lacked taste and you probably couldn't tell it was lychee unless you ordered it. The Grapefruit IPA was a different story...that shit was lit! I don't even like IPAs because they tend to be bitter but this one was on point. If you must order alcohol here, definitely get that! I love how it's right on Alki; you can go for a nice walk on the beach, kayaking, biking or just soak in some Vitamin D!
