Come for the food, stay for the service. Qualities of a great establishment: family owned and operated, Sun-faded pictures of family around the restaurant, hand painted menu sign, a constant stream of locals and regulars- walking and driving up- to the place, empty trays on the display 2 hours before close, signs limiting the amount of cookie orders, a chef willing to talk to you about how "you gonna love the crust" and Sovrana has them all! Will definitely be returning just to stop in and say hey! And to at least learn their names. The Sovrana family was so warm and inviting, just like the enchanting aroma of the pizza! I'm no pizza connoisseur, but of the places I have been to in Albany, they were the busiest. From walks in looking for slices and drive-ups collecting whole pies (or two) there was a steady stream while we waited for order of GF pizza. Oh yeah! They have GF crust pizza! Which was tremendously satisfying.

Ordered the almost everything pizza from here and it came warm, on time, with plates and a big stack of napkins. This was probably the best pizza I've had in the capital region (not that I get pizza often) in that they were generous with toppings and ingredients were really fresh. The crust is not the bubbly slightly crispy/chewy crust that I like most, but this was still a very good local pizza for the price and speed. My boyfriend also got Buffalo wings which he said were kind of dry and not so good, but I didn't try them and would never have ordered them so not factoring them into my review as much.

black on the bottom and the kids wouldn't eat it. :(

I grew up eating here and have always loved it, but the past couple times I ordered a 24 cut Sicilian for a party, they were burnt and half was inedible because the crust was too hard on the bottom. I'm not sure what's been going on. It makes me really sad. The first time it happened, I chalked it up to a bad day... but the same thing again the second time. That's $50 worth of pizza that wasn't eaten.

Cute spot with old world charm. Although it's only 38 years old as a venture the place architecturally seems older. Good vibes and energy. Warm smiles from family owners. 6 cookie limit so make sure you grab ur 6. The chocolate chip cookie was yummy yummy. Prices are way way reasonable. Lotta love here.

    Best pizza ever!

Rose runs the best local italian joint in the world. Yes it is a joint. Not fancy per se. A local haunt. Killer pizza. Great subs. All served with love. It's the only place I eat when I'm in albany

I must politely disagree with whatever authority dubbed this Albany's best pizza. My veggie combo slice was huge, and an excellent value at $4, but the toppings sat on a bland puffy crust like you'd expect at a chain takeout place. I had actually come for a sub, but hey, can't pass up a chance to try Albany's best pizza. My Italian Mix was A-OK. Good roll, generous in size for $6 (plus $1 for hot pepper spread) but the meat/veggie mix balance was off and the meat components were uninteresting in flavor. They asked me if I wanted Italian dressing and I said yes, but they use the Wishbone stuff from a bottle rather than the oil/vinegar/oregano mix you expect. Service was friendly and my food was out quickly. There's a spartan seating area if you care to dine in.

Sorry to those who think this is good pizza we ordered the margarita pizza #8 described as crust tomato sauce, mozzarella, and house made pesto We added the items of sausage and peppers please look at pick maybe 1 to 3 small pieces of sausage a few peppers. The crust is cardboard and the sauce not fresh worse than any tasteless grocery store can of sauce. So highly disappointed

First off I'm not sure what food people in these reviews are eating, because in my experience the Italian mix sub was very bland, the bread was dry, and the meat looked pale and weird. That ambience of the place was nostalgic which is the reason why I gave it 3 stars and not 2. The woman helping me was friendly enough but made it a point to tell me how gas prices were fine at $4.10 per gallon as long as Trump was the president, which annoyed me because it gives an indication that details don't matter here. Given the taste of the $15 small sub I paid for it definitely tracks. Be your own critic, but for me it's the history of this place and not the food has people coming back. I won't be one of them.

Some notable changes I noticed during the most recent visit include a big flat screen TV and tables and chairs indoors. The freezer apparently was out of order, but I would have loved to get their tiramisu which is also one of the best I've ever had. Their sub always strikes the right balance in the dressing, bread, meats, and toppings. Toppings are consistently good quality, and you can customise your sub by asking staff what you do and don't want on it. I hope they stay healthy and busy for decades to come.

I loved the Rabe C, broccoli rabe, fried eggplant, provolone and hot pepper spread. Great flavor combo and a pop of heat from the pepper spread. I have made the incredibly difficult decision to close Geshon's Deli & Caterers. Friday, January 30th, 2026, was our final day. This decision was not made lightly as Gershon's has been an integral part of my life since I was a little girl. After my father's untimely passing, I took over with one clear mission, to honor his legacy, keep his dream alive, and continue providing quality service and "good food for good people." For more than 60 years, Gershon's has been shaped by the people who walked through our doors. Every employee, customer, client, and friend has played a role in our story and our success.
