Mario & team consistently surpass all expectations and I'm incredibly grateful that I found them on Yelp 2 years ago. After much thought and postponement, we finally decided to have our house rewired (knob & tube wiring replaced). Knowing that it would be an expensive and disruptive process we wanted to make sure that we picked the best team for the job. After speaking to multiple firms we decided to go with Mario & crew as the estimate was fair and, most importantly, Mario put me at ease that he knew what he was doing. This was also in late summer of 2020 when things were still fairly shut down due to Covid. The team made the process as minimally disruptive as possible which allowed us to stay in the house for a few days while they started their work. This saved us the additional hotel stay that we would've had to spend money on. All along the way Mario and crew were fantastic guides through the process and would recommend solutions (like where to place the light switch, or how many outlets) when I was lost. The end result turned out great and I'm so glad that we made the decision to replace the wiring. I hired Mario to do a electrical panel upgrade which went well, then I hired Mario to rewrire my house that went horrible Mario is a nice knowledgeable guy but he hired the worst helpers ever. They started cutting holes in the ceiling without them being aligned. I told Mario and they started cutting more holes in the ceiling trying to get them aligned. Leaving the misaligned holes. No attempt to patch or repair. My ceiling looked like Swiss cheese and he was okay with it. Mario said he could do the job in 2 days. He stayed until 7pm on the last night not completing the job. He had to come back and finish what he had left. I wish I had taken more pics but I didn't think of it at the time. If you use this guy, make sure to look over all the work very carefully. The reason why I cannot rate 5/5 stars is that they did not pass city inspection / permitting the first time, the front office is not on top of communications (e.g. I had to personally tell their front office that their electricians didn't pass inspection a week after the fact), and they aren't the cheapest electrician out there. From the initial contact to passing final inspection, Mario and his workers did an excellent job adding a 240V line to our garage for a Level 2 EV charger. First: Mario was early to respond and the only electrician out of the six we contacted through Yelp who actually asked to come to the house to scope out the job. His estimate made more sense than the cheaper-but-half-baked estimates from the others. He even detailed the project steps to be done, including pulling the permit. Second: Mario knew that this upgrade would require Southern California Edison to approve the location of the electrical panel, and advised me that SCE scheduling could cause a delay. Sure enough, through a long and frustrating experience with SCE scheduling, Joanne at Mario Castillo Electric helped me keep my sanity. Third: On the work appointment day, William and another electrician arrived promptly at 8:00am, and they were efficient and courteous. They worked tirelessly through this job that took almost 12 hours -- when they left, all the work was complete. A few days later was the inspection, and Mario came back to represent the electrical work to the city inspector. Of course, the project passed inspection. I highly recommend Mario Castillo Electric. Work completed: July 2nd, 2021 Some Work edited by another: August 31st, 2021 I am overall happy with the work that Mario Castillo did at the house I rent out. They provided a light in the unlit garage, two bathroom fans from scratch, and an electrical supply for a kitchen range hood. I had to install a new range hood completely from scratch, which included supplying it with electricity. Mario Castillo came and they tapped power from a nearby outlet and did a clean job of providing the electrical to the location that I told them to. What I didn't like is that I told them that the hood would be hardwired, and I was right. I showed them the wiring diagram by email and I told them it would be hardwired, but they insisted on installing an outlet at the range hood location. I guess they didn't believe me when I said the hood would be hardwired and just needed bare wire to tap into. When the range hood installer came, they had to remove the outlet and get a separate junction box cover and bushing and add some wire because the junction box was wired for an outlet. Their outlet installation wasted me time and materials. I emailed them several days after the job for photos that their technician took of the wiring my attic and they never responded. There was one last bad thing. When the technicians, who did all the work, said that they were done with the fans--it turns out that they weren't. I flipped the switch on for one bathroom fan and it wasn't running; it was only running when the other fan in the other room was on. They had not detected this problem, but fortunately I caught it before they left. They said that some of the wiring in my house was crossed, which is not surprising in this annoyingly hastily constructed tract house, but detecting the initial problem was easy and something that they should have done themselves. I'll credit them that they didn't begrudge me the extra time and admitted their error and stayed to fix it, even though it was the end of the day. The better things though were that Mario Castillo came himself for the estimate, which I liked. Although we needed a Spanish-English translator because (sadly) I betray my ancestors and don't understand much Spanish. He had a good price for all the work, so that was cool. I appreciate having a licensed electrician plan and guide stuff (Mario Castillo didn't do the work himself, I guess because it was below him; fair 'nuff). I could have had an unlicensed handyman, who says they'll do electrical, supply the range hood electricity, but I don't like to take chances on electrical. All the work was clean and good, once completely complete and personally inspected. I would go with him again, probably. read more

As a new homeowner I didn't know who to call for issues my home inspector pointed out. Referrals from family & friends were a letdown, so I put it off for a few months until I had no choice - the power went out in my kitchen/laundry. Went onto yelp and found Mario Castillo Electric with all the great reviews you've been reading, but admittedly was still skeptical after the previous referrals had fallen through. After speaking with Flor (an all-around joy to speak with), Mario came out within a couple hours and let me know it was a SoCal Edison issue (wind+tree+power lines which they were able to fix same-day), while providing a quote for a panel upgrade and whole home rewiring. Mario was friendly and knowledgable, so I got the ball rolling on the panel upgrade & an EV charger installation - asking lots of questions along the way. Before that work was done I recommended them to my Father for an EV charger in the meantime, and he was very happy with the work done.
