We have an old house that needed to be completely rewired. While Mario's quote was not the lowest, it was clear that the job would be done professionally, up-to-code, and with absolutely no corners cut. Mario himself came out to make sure that everything was being done properly, his crew were fast and friendly, and they even finished a few days early. The finish of the work was exceptional - they really thought about how not to disrupt a lot of the period details in our house and drywall/plaster patches they did looked better than the original work. Contacted Mario Electric based on the good reviews on Yelp however was really disappointed in the service (or lack there of) that I received. I needed a new light fixture placed above the kitchen sink and two outlets in two different rooms. I was contacted by someone via txt message and answered a few questions he had. After sending him a requested photo of an old outlet that was in the bathroom I never heard from him again. After a day I replied back asking for the requested estimate and I got a simple reply "With knob and tube it's difficult to give an estimate" ok....so you don't work with knob and tube? What is knob and tube? I was confused by his reply and after not getting more explanation I replied back saying never mind about my request and he replied with "yes" I would think a profesional electrician would work on knob and tube or at least let me know he doesn't work on them. It's like pulling teeth to try and get an electrician to come out and install 3 items without having to up sell me thousands of dollars or work I don't want or need. Edit: 6/23 Hello Mario, NO ONE offered to come by and take a look. Your sales rep/tech lied to you. I would have gladly had someone come by to take a look but that was not offered to me. I've enclosed the entire txt message correspondence for your review and to let you know I wasn't lying. I called your office on Wednesday and a nice lady answered and said someone would reach out to me, I was contacted the next day, Thursday, and answered all the questions and submitted a picture per their request and after that I did not receive a response back. I still heard nothing back on Friday morning so I messaged them back In case that they forgot about me and all I got back was "With knob and tube it's difficult to give an estimate". I waited ALL day to see if someone would offer to come by or give a simple explanation as to why it a knob and tube was complicated. I took your/their silence as a blow off and said never mind after 7 hours of waiting for a reply or a simple sorry we don't work on tube and knobs. That's it. I'm a nurse and know nothing about electrical work especially for a house that is over 100 years old. We are restoring this house to its former glory and would have been happy to listen to professionals about our current electrical wiring and gain some knowledge about do and don'ts or an updating the entire thing however I was not offered that by your company at all and the fact that they lied about offering me to come by and take a look and me declining that is really disappointing and upsetting to hear and makes me not trust this company at all. read more

I've had Mario out to the house twice for separate issues and both times I was impressed with his work. First time was to fix electrical that got messed up during a kitchen remodel. My disposal no longer had power and my wall sockets were dead. Mario came out, was punctual and fixed the whole mess in two hours. He installed a new switch for the disposal and fixed the wiring in the wall that was hooked up incorrectly after the new counters were installed. Next time out I wanted an outdoor outlet installed on my patio and a bathroom outlet had stopped working. He came with another one of his employees and they took care of the whole thing quickly, did super clean work and charged a very reasonable price. I can't say enough good things about Mario Castillo Electric. My hot tub kept shorting ever since it was installed by another electrician. For months, that electrician failed to resolve the problem and kept charging me for every failed attempt to fix it. I ended up spending thousands on that electrician who insisted there was some mysterious problem that was "just a combination of several factors" which would require a very expensive trial and error approach to fixing. This just didn't ring true to me, so I finally did what I should have done at the beginning and decided to call a different electrician for another opinion. I called Mario Castillo Electric, and their technician immediately diagnosed and fixed the problem. Their prices were reasonable, they patiently explained the problem to me, and I haven't had any problems with my hot tub since. It turned out that my previous electrician used cheap wiring which caused my tub to keep shorting. The problem is that if you're not an electrician, there's no way to know if your electrician is taking cheap shortcuts. Most people don't normally think to ask their electrician if they're using quality wiring. I was fooled by really positive reviews and ratings for that electrician as apparently, the people wrote those reviews had no idea he takes cheap shortcuts and won't know the difference until something goes wrong later.. Sergio and another guy came on time day of, and worked flawlessly to fix the problem we were having. Our electric dryer now has heat! Thank you Sergio. I really recommend them! I'm happy to share with you that my experience with Mario Castillo Electric was wonderful. I had Mario and his crew install a new electrical outlet and 20amp circuit breaker in my man cave. I needed a socket on a wall for my TV and guitar amp so I could enjoy playing guitar. Mario's crew did an excellent job! I used Yelp to find a reputable licensed electrician in my area and I found Mario Castillo Electric. They had the most reviews and they were nearly all were 5 stars. I called Mario and explained the work I needed done. His office staff gave me an appointment and Mario arrived on time the next day to look over the house and provide advice, options, and quote. Mario was very professional and explained a couple of options for my very old house. I received a written quote via email within 15 minutes of Mario leaving my house. The price for the job was reasonable so I accepted the quote. I really have to compliment the communication I received from Mario and his staff. I had a question about the quote which I emailed. I received an answer with 15 minutes which satisfied my question so I accepted the quote. Within 30 minutes his office called me and scheduled an appointment for his crew to do the work. They were very busy with work and so they scheduled an appointment for the following Tuesday. However, they had a cancellation on Friday and called me to ask if I would prefer to have the work done on Friday. I happily accepted the Friday appointment. On Friday morning I received a text confirming the appointment. When the two man crew arrived I received a text informing Mario's electricians had arrived at my house. I greeted the two very professional men who were dressed in professional uniforms and showed them the breaker panel, wiring raceway through my garage and house, my attic and the man cave where I needed the electrical outlet to be installed. The crew got to work right away and finished the job in a timely manner. When they needed to cut a hole in my wall they men consulted me to ask if it was OK and where I would like the hole to be cut. Mario's crew took before and after photos of all the work and cleaned up after themselves leaving no trace of debris. The outlet works beautifully and and I'm now a happy electric guitar player without worry of running extension cables to outlets far from the location of my amp and pedals. I could not be happier with the service, communication and job Mario Castillo Electric did for me. I definitely will be hiring them for all future electrical jobs I need done. In the 21 years I've lived in my house I've had a lot of work done to my 1939 bungalow by a variety of contractors, workmen and handymen. One problem I frequently encountered was contractors and workmen who had poor communication, failed to keep their appointments, left before jobs were completed and ran off to work on other jobs which stretched out the job on my house from what should have been completed in the time frame quoted from days to sometimes weeks. This was not the case with Mario Castillo Electric. Mario and company have exceptionally great communication, arrived on time, worked efficiently and completed the job in three hours. I received a quote from Mr. Castillo back in 2019 for a new electrical panel. I was unable to do the work at that time. Fast forward 2023, I got the same work done, by a licensed electrician for less than 1/2 of what Mr. Castillo would have charged. Lesson learned, get at least three quotes. The other electrician also found on Yelp. Case and point, I do not doubt that Castillo is a good electrician, but definitely OVERPRICED! This is my second review for Mario Castillo Electric. Back in October 2019 we contracted with Mario to do a badly needed full home rewire on our 1930s home out here in Long Beach. The job was completed ahead of schedule with the utmost care taken to do as little damage as possible to the plaster walls of our home. We then noticed what looked to be arc flashing coming from beneath one of the lights in the kitchen. First thing I did was call Mario and let him know what I was seeing. Mario was there within 30 minutes to help take a look at it. Long story short there was absolutely nothing wrong with the wiring or any of the electrical work Mario did. The flashing we were seeing was actually the sunlight coming into our attic through a vent in the roof that spins, lining up with the sunlight just right to create the illusion of electrical light flashing. The point of this review is that Mario, months after he had completed the job, was there within 30 minutes to help a pair of neophyte home owners. Mario was not even the slightest bit irritated that he had been called over for a false alarm, and was just happy to see our house up and running with solid electrical. If you need a job as small as hanging a new ceiling fan, or as large as a full home rewire, Mario is a fantastic electrician who will answer all of your layman questions and do an incredible job. I came across Mario Castillo Electric. I read the high, ranking reviews and decided to give them a call. We already had a bid from another electrician that our contractor's electrician had given us, but we wanted another estimate, so I reached out to Mario Castillo Electric. I spoke to a Mario (not sure if it was the owner or not). He asked if we had other estimates. I said yes, and he asked if he could see the estimate so that his company could be as competitive as possible. I showed them a copy. We set up a walk through date. After walking through Giovanni, said it would be a day or so for them to get back to us with an estimate. Actually at the close of that day, they gave us a price. We found the price a little too steep, so we asked if they had any discounts and they took about 4,000.00 off the price AND we got way more than the other electrician offered to give us in his estimate. Requested service from Mario Castillo Electric, very quick response back. I choose Castillo based on all of the 5 stars they received on Yelp. I was aware of the $172.00 flat rate fee, but I also thought I had an electrical issue in the wall. I explained that I had a single outlet at the end of a series of outlets that was dead. I replaced the outlet and still didn't work. Checked with a volt meter and a 2 wire light device to detect if there was a current, nothing. The appointment was a few days later, the electrician came early. He came in tested the wiring and it was still hot. To be honest, not sure what had happened??? Electrician checked the next outlet in series, it was good. My only advice to future customers is to make sure the job is truly worth the flat rate of $172. I made the mistake of thinking mine was, however it wasn't. In the future, I would find an electrician or company that would have the courtesy of pro-rating the 10 minute visit or lower flat rate. Mario is my go to electrician. I called him to have a 240 volt line installed for an induction stove top. He is very responsive and schedules appointment within a few days. I also had him put junction box in closets so I could install lighting. The cooktop did not fit in the counter and he cut it so the cooktop would fit. Today I hired him to install 220 volt outlet from my old electric dryer outlet for level 2 electric car charger for my new Chevy Volt.
