I spoke with the receptionist for a bit bec she has a sister I share my name with and she really is an asset to the company so I give 5 stars to Karen who is not a "Karen" :-) I also give 5 stars to Flor who called me back to ask some questions and give me a run down on the company. She had an answer to all of my questions and wasn't rushing me or pushy and I loved that. The 5 star reviews of Mario and his team/company is what made me want to hire them for a FULL REWIRE with extras on a duplex. The only 2 reasons I did not get an estimate is bec they charge a $50 non-refundable fee if you do not use them. I don't like that bec if you want to charge me $30k for $15k job then I'm not going to use you and I felt like they might and that's why there's a fee. The 2nd reason I didn't use them is bec they said it will be a 5 week long job and I cannot leave tenants without electricity that long and others say they can get it done as quick as the inspections/permits take and no longer. Since I have not used them, I cannot really review that aspect. This review is just answering YELP'S question of if I used them and why or why not :-) Oh! I hired Mario Castillo and crew to re-wire my house and install a subpanel in my garage over the summer of 2020 and couldn't have been happier with the Mario, his team, and the results. Throughout every step of the process I was informed of timelines, effort, budget, and schedule. I would be sent text messages and emails with appointment times; Mario would always show up on-time - if not early - every time. Mario showed up for an estimate and laid out options for work. I was sent over an estimate that weekend. Mario's team was slammed with work over the summer and was able to schedule my home to be started in just a few weeks. Luckily for me, they work fast and offered to start on my project a week sooner. Mario's team was full of competent and experienced employees. On the first day of work I anticipated them to come in and get a lay of the land and let me know timelines -- instead Hector and Victor immediately got to work at drilling holes to rip out the existing wiring. They were incredibly nice and respectful of all of our personal belongings. We tried to make their lives as easy as possible by covering our floor with the painters paper suggested by Mario's email and covering our belongings with plastic to ensure dust doesn't get into everything. I gave Hector the keys to the house and he gave me a phone call every week to update me on the progress made and work left. Mario stopped by frequently to check-in and talk with me about the project. They wrapped up the project sooner than expected, and scheduled the city to come out and inspect their fine work. As expected, their work passed on the first inspection and I've been using electricity without worry ever since. We had a great experience with Mario Castillo Electric. We had a new electrical panel installed with grounding rods in back and front of the house, a rewire of our kitchen, and rewire of the 30 Amp dryer circuit in our garage. The cost was reasonable and the technicians did a very professional job, with some very tough work in our tight crawl space. All our questions on aspects of the work were answered promptly. They handled the permits and arranged and were present for the permit inspection, and the inspector said the work was excellent. It was clear they had a desire to make us satisfied customers. I would recommend Mario Castillo Electric. They are very strong with communication and follow up. Always sent reminders, technicians showed up on time or early. I had new wiring and a switch installed for some track lighting in my living room. I did not think to mention when booking the appointment that I wanted the switch to be a dimmer. The tech didn't have one with him, so he put in a standard switch, and they returned another day to swap it out. It's done now and works great. They are very professional. My only issue was that the first team spoke limited English and my Spanish language skills are very weak. We managed, but with a little effort. We are not impressed with this company. We used this company because they gave us the best referrals but our experience wasn't not good. We hired this company to fix the issues that our last contractor didn't finish. They sent a person to do a diagnostic, and after we agreed to the quote a person came supposedly to do all the job that was in the first invoice. They claimed that everything was completed but it wasn't true. Even though they charged us for the permit and for the time that they had to wait when the inspector came, they never pulled the permit. At the time, I called the lady who told me "oh I thought you already had the permit". Second issue was that was that they supposedly fixed the circuit for the pool but they did wrong. They connected the pool filter with the pool lights and we now we can't run the pool equipment due to this issue. I had to call many times and they sent someone the same day after I explained that the plaster was new and we needed to run the equipment. At the time the technician came he started arguing with me and refused to do the job. I had to show him the invoice that I paid for that job and finally he did it. I had to have an other argument because I had been charged to label the panel and they never did it. I had to call again because they put the wrong cables in the tankless water heater. Another technician came and brought the wrong cable again. We paid separate invoices for different jobs but none of the jobs were done right at the first time. So far they came to our property multiple times to fix issues that they caused. Also, they charged us for an arc fault breaker $95, then we had issues. The technician came to take those breakers with him and we are still getting charged. After I called they deduct $75 from the invoice and returned one of the breakers. The last time they came they did a wrong connection in the light switch and they decided to install a light switch in one area and put a remote sticking out of my wall that looks horrible. They didn't ask if we want that. Finally on Friday the owner Mario contacted us but he never accepted all the mistakes that his workers did. He was complaining about the money is costed him to send his workers to our house. We realized that he cares more about the money than his client. I would like to clarify that he sent his workers more than 3 times because they didn't do the job right the first time. Definitely we are not using this company again. read more

We had mario come to our house and give an estimate to install some fans, add grounded outlets, and update an electrical panel. His quote was much higher for fan installation. he also told me our house had no grounded outlets and we would have to rewire our entire house! Telling a homeowner that it will cost 18k off the top of your head only caused us to panic.... after getting a second estimate from another electrician, we found that we DID have some grounded outlets already and that changed/adding additional grounded outlets would not be a problem..... i don't know if Mario didnt want the job, but I felt as though he should have been honest rather than telling us we had to completley rewire a 1900 sq ft house. read more

GREAT EXPERIENCE Mario came to give a quote on some work that included 3 separate areas of our home. We wanted recessed lighting and a new vent in our bathroom, a new chandelier in the dining area (which included repositioning the fixture), and a new light over our back porch. He gave us a quote for all three right on the spot and it was very reasonable. This was on a Tuesday and we scheduled the job for that same Saturday. Sergio and Hector showed up right on time Saturday morning and got to work after letting us give them a little rundown. I needed a socket on a wall for my TV and guitar amp so I could enjoy playing guitar. Mario's crew did an excellent job! I used Yelp to find a reputable licensed electrician in my area and I found Mario Castillo Electric. They had the most reviews and they were nearly all were 5 stars. I called Mario and explained the work I needed done. His office staff gave me an appointment and Mario arrived on time the next day to look over the house and provide advice, options, and quote. Mario was very professional and explained a couple of options for my very old house. I received a written quote via email within 15 minutes of Mario leaving my house. The price for the job was reasonable so I accepted the quote. I really have to compliment the communication I received from Mario and his staff. I had a question about the quote which I emailed. I received an answer with 15 minutes which satisfied my question so I accepted the quote. Within 30 minutes his office called me and scheduled an appointment for his crew to do the work. They were very busy with work and so they scheduled an appointment for the following Tuesday. However, they had a cancellation on Friday and called me to ask if I would prefer to have the work done on Friday. I happily accepted the Friday appointment. On Friday morning I received a text confirming the appointment. When the two man crew arrived I received a text informing Mario's electricians had arrived at my house. I greeted the two very professional men who were dressed in professional uniforms and showed them the breaker panel, wiring raceway through my garage and house, my attic and the man cave where I needed the electrical outlet to be installed. The crew got to work right away and finished the job in a timely manner. When they needed to cut a hole in my wall they men consulted me to ask if it was OK and where I would like the hole to be cut. Mario's crew took before and after photos of all the work and cleaned up after themselves leaving no trace of debris. The outlet works beautifully and and I'm now a happy electric guitar player without worry of running extension cables to outlets far from the location of my amp and pedals. It was a pleasure working with Mario Castillo Electric. I got a service panel upgrade, new subpanel and EVSE hardwire install. I had done a bunch of pre-planning, so had a solid vision for almost every aspect of the project, from electrical loads on the house to preferred wire runs in attic and crawl space (to avoid plumbing and a bunch of exposed conduit), even had a preference on panel models. I wanted a company willing and able to marry the vision with their expertise. Mario's crew knocked it out of the park. From their salesperson to office personnel to the electricians crawling around under the house, they all communicated, respected the vision, showed me where it needed improving and completed the project a day early and looking better than I had envisioned.
