Stopped in for lunch. We ordered a small pie and a beverage. We pay and card machine asks if we want to leave a gratuity. Why? We do all the work? We pick up the order at the counter. We have to get our own condiments. Speaking of condiments. When we brought our pizza to the table to eat, my wife asked me to get the jar of garlic powder. When I went to their condiment station, the row labeled garlic had. I jar there. I asked behind the counter, where is the garlic. The counter person replied that they don't know. I then asked, well can I get some please? He said he is new and will have to check with the kitchen staff. He came back with a plastic container and said there would be a charge. Why? Are you kidding me Mario's? No a pleasant experience.

No complaints. Great NY style pizza at good prices. They even have bottled beer. Cafe style set up. I'm a happy return customer.

Pizza is my favorite food, but Mario's pizza was pretty much inedible. I didn't think I'd ever say that about pizza.

You sit down at a table and the staff and the atmosphere makes you feel like you are sitting down at your Italian grandma's kitchen on Sundays. It's a very easy restaurant to make it to. They're located right on Neuse boulevard, past the traffic light on Simmons. Overall this place is great and convenient. I would definitely recommend keeping 37th Street in your queue for a future visit. You will have a happy full tummy afterwards.

When they moved to the location they are now, we continued to go because we loved the pizza and other things they offer (plus we lived in the neighborhood right behind it) we would have gone to eat there no matter where they were. Have I ever had a not so great experience there, yes. I called, spoke with manager on duty, and as much as we come there, she knew who my husband was (we eat mostly take out at home now). The staff is great, the food is great and I love the inside of the restaurant, especially the booths! I will not write someone off for one bad experience just because of one, which was taken care of promptly! So, my opinion is, go there, find what looks good to you on the menu and try it. I do not think you will be disappointed. I give 37th Street a A+ and will continue to unless something horrible happens.

Upon arrival, the building looks nice and somewhat upscale. When inside, we were also ok with the atmosphere. It was somewhat quiet, clean, and their menu seemed very diverse. It was a mix of a little GOOD sprinkled with a lot of BAD from there. The waitress was slow and had no personality. She brought drinks, and when we were ordering, we asked to substitute pasta for something else. She said, "There were no subs, and adding something like veggies would be a cost". Beyond the rude tone she gave us, that is a terrible policy when ordering a $20 meal and then having to pay extra because pasta is NOT on your diet. Further, anyone with gluten issues would be forced to pay extra for any meal that has pasta as a side, and that's half the menu or more. That wasn't all : the salads were overloaded with black olives, the thousand island dressing was lousy, the bread was completely tasteless (and the butter as well, somehow), and the wait for the food was excessive considering it wasn't very busy. The good side was the sausage w/peppers I had was good, and the chicken w/spinach my wife had was also enjoyed - so the main dishes themselves weren't bad. With everything else on the poor side, we won't be back.

They worked well together and made sure we were well taken care of. If you went to a restaurant just for the staff then this would get them five stars. But I don't come just for the staff or ambiance. I come to restaurants for the food and with a limited budget I want value and quality for our money. When we go to a place we haven't tried before I like to try sampler plates or try smaller portions of more items to learn what they are good at. Most BBQ joints have a sampler platter but there wasn't one on the menu. I asked about it and they said it was common to get smaller portions of the proteins as a combo (again not on the menu) but if you do it, doesn't come with the bread or the side even though the price is a bit more. You get to choose three meats. Ok I ordered the sausage, burnt ends, pork belly and a side of fries. The sausage was very good, thank you. The pork belly was a very small portion and fattier than I've had before, sweetened and too salty. The burnt ends were bad, I couldn't even finish them. Perhaps the worst burnt ends I've ever had. Very salty, I mean way too much salt. greasy, truly burnt not just the bark and meat like most burnt ends, and the sauce wasn't very good either. I was really disappointed. The fries were great, I would come here just for those. My wife ordered the turkey pot pie which was small and dry. She asked for some gravy on the side which they promptly got out. She indicated it was very good gravy.

This is my second review, as usual Yelp lost or deleted the last one…read more This is my second time here, the first time I was just looking for a quick lunch and then I can back this time with my wife. First off, the name is a little deceiving, this place has a more complete menu than just pizza and sandwiches. And then there is the bakery section! Don't miss that! I've tried the Ruben which was great, best I've had since I moved to NC. Both times we had the fries which are generous and there was plenty for us to share. The vibe here is local, there are clearly regulars and everyone is friendly, including the other customers who are all chatty and friendly. The staff is prompt and professional but also have that more casual vibe, we felt our waitress cared about us genuinely. I see other complain that its busy, if a restaurant is not busy it's failing. We did not have to wait, sat ourselves and were immediately brought menus. Our lunch was great and filling. But then we headed to the bakery... It's small but it has everything, cakes, cookies, preserved jellies. artisan olive oils, pastry, cupcakes etc. Everything we have tried has been really good. There are no batteries in the town where we live, and none in the two neighboring towns either despite being larger than New Bern. We find ourselves in New Bern a few times a month and are adding Famous Subs and Pizza to our list of regular stops. Even if we are not eating here we will pick up a selection of treats and fresh bread to take home with us.

The cheese had almost no stretch or pull, which is one of the hallmarks of a good pizza. The sauce was actually the best part, it wasn't bad at all, but it couldn't make up for the rest. Overall, I thought it was a disappointing pizza. After living in New York for more than 40 years and spending another 10 years near Chicago, I've eaten my share of great pizza. I like to think I know a thing or two about what makes a quality pie, and this one just didn't measure up. I've always had good experiences at Famnous, so this review is just about the pizza I had this time.
