We were hanging out in Santa Fe today and I was starved, so we thought we'd try something new. Walking in, you're greeted with vibrant colors and intricate decor. I loved the setting! The waitress came to get our drink order and brought us some Chips and Dips. There was a delicious white dip that I couldn't identify, but it was very tasty. The Jalapeño was nice and spicy in that dip and in the pico de gallo. I ordered the Relleno, which is a 10 oz Trout covered in scallops and shrimp. I had requested they not put the usual octopus on there. The whole trout was covered in white cheese. I loved the taste but did find the cheese too overwhelming in some spots. The sides that came with it, fried potato wedges, white rice, and corn, were alright. The corn was the star of the sides. My husband got the Chicken and Beef Combo Fajitas. The chicken was plentiful, but the beef was scarce. Instead of strips, the beef was cut into very small chunks and there was very little of it. From what I tasted, it was all very flavorful. I will definitely give this place another try. One important note is that the bathrooms were impeccably clean. That tells me employees take pride in the restaurant and gives me confidence that they take care in every other aspect as well. Can't wait to make a return trip and hope to give this place more stars next time! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in Santa Fe. I've always had a great time here. I find their fish to be delicious. Most recently I've had their octopus platter and I've enjoyed it immensely. I think their menu is a wonderful accomplishment with many choices. Couldn't find any other place with seafood open on a Monday, and decided to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did! Excellent fresh oysters, and a grilled fish Plancha that was fresh and well prepared. Ms T and I had been to Mariscos Costa Azul on a previous visit to Santa Fe. This time the four of us went to La Playa for some seafood. apparently they are not connected. They served us three salsas to get started. There was a smooth pureed onion salsa with a little avocado added for color. We left this one alone. Then there was a typical onion pico with some tomato added for color. We left this one alone as well. Finally, there was a pureed bean dip which was fine. We all had very good seafood diches around the table. Ms T and TT split an order of Shrimp Fajitas, ordered with no onion. It was nicely grilled and well-seasoned. Bro J had a huge Grilled Seafood platter with bay scallops, squid, octopus and fish. It was strongly flavored. Everything was quite tender and we suspect they cook it ahead and then grill it to order. I decided on Camarones al Diablo in a delicious creamy chile chipotle sauce. The shrimp got a bit lost in the flavor of the sauce, but the sauce was so good. I am sitting, as I write this, about 50 yds from the ocean. The seafood here is so fresh and flavorful I have to remember that Santa Fe is not exactly a a place to find that freshness. For the desert, it was pretty good and well prepared. I am going with four stars for the seafood dishes and the enjoyment we had of the meal. It may be a little generous and I am discounting the excessive onion usage. read more

I love seafood and I love Mexican food, therefore I love Marisco's La Playa. Fresh seafood dishes and margaritas mixed with a warm family run atmosphere and friendly service make this place a true dining pleasure. Up the street from Maria's, down the street from Body and across the street from Santa Fe Baking is where you might find me when I'm MIA on a Wednesday afternoon. There is nothing super special about this place, but it is certainly special, especially if the main ingredient of a good restaurant is how it makes you feel when you leave and I always feel special. I've been here a couple of times and decided that it was time for me to write about this place and share it. I came in today on my lunch break to get a Mojarra Frita (fried tilapia) to go. I placed my order and as soon as I got it I could already taste my food in my mouth. The servers where really friendly and bilingual! This place was within walking distance of the condo that we stayed in while we're vacationing in Santa Fe for 3 days. The owners of the condo recommended it. So we went. My kids were immediately attracted to the bright deco that was everything in this restaurant. The seats, the tablecloths, the walls. They were all in primary colors, friendly for kids. I ordered the Tostada de Ceviche, three tostadas topped with fish, shrimp, pico and avocado. Very yummy. I ate quite a bit even though I was not too hungry at the start of the meal. I brought the left over home for dinner. I wish I had come here while I was hungry and with big appetite. My kids got the chicken nuggets and fries, and the mexican pizza, which was pretty creative, basically tortilla with beans and cheese. They both liked the meal. I had the filete a la plancha (fish filet cooked on an iron grill). The fish had a tasty tomatoe sauce, not spicy at all. My wife and I got to the dining area and it looked pretty busy, but after an 8 - 10 minute wait a couple of tables opened up. However, even after the tables were cleaned it was several minutes before we were seated. Immediately after we were seated several tables vacated and suddenly the dining area was nearly vacated. We sat there and watched, with no water or even a drink order taken, as the staff proceeded to clean all of the tables, all the while ignoring us. The one waiter and two waitresses passed us several times without even acknowledging us with a "we'll be with you soon". Finally my wife asked me if we should just go. I replied that if noone came soon we would. Just then we noticed the waitress who had seated us look over, look away, and commence with CLEANING MENUS. As we were walking out the guy asked my wife why we were leaving. "You didn't wait on us." With a gesture towards the girl cleaning menus, he said "she's coming". Ummmm just resort to the photo. The beef was weirdly chewy and I am always skeptical of meat hence why I ordered 2 other avocado tacos. The beans had been sitting out since so it was like breaking through a film. Here's a tip.
