While eating my seafood mixes, I wonder perhaps the Mexican food theme has long time moved to San Pablo? Rolls of specialized Mexican, Niguarangan, popusa shops near by with many Mexican grocery shops, wasn't this in Oakland years ago? Granted, the last few times getting Mexican food in Oakland, turned out, was not that satisfying. I made a mental note that I'll be back more often to try every single one near here. The seafood in the molcajete are so flavorful and it's perfect to soak the corn tortilla. Menudo was alright but guess I never know what's considered good. The tripes are super fresh and tender though. The flavorful rice that comes with the seafood tasted like Hainan chicken rice to me. The only association between the two is perhaps they use the same chicken bouillon? I have no clue (If I'm too lazy to make the chicken rice myself, this can be the #1 hack!!) Waitresses are super friendly and I hope we peaking every single table before making the hard decision didn't bother others too much. Oh well, we are the only 2 Asian there. We met up here for breakfast and we were happy we did. We arrived as they opened. We learned that they start serving mariscos after 9am. We had chiliquiles verdes and machaca con huevos. Both plates were delicious. The chiliquiles had a small kick (spice) to it, which I loved. Homemade tortillas came with the machaca. We also had the agua de jaimica, which was good. I have gained a new found respect for La Playita, after a bad encounter years ago. I've always enjoyed the food here and would come when I lived in Pinole. My mom was hungry and so was I, so we came for dinner. We both ordered enchiladas, one with red sauce and the other with green. The rice and beans were so good, along with the mini side salad. Sad to see a family favorite go downhill. We always love the food here and went with a group of 7 people to dine in. The restaurant does not serve plates as described on the menu. My daughter ordered fajitas which the menu states includes rice, beans and salad. The beans were not included. When we asked the waitress the response was that only dishes from the taqueria next door (which is the same business) include beans. We were confused why they are showing inaccurate menus or couldn't bring a side of beans. My husband ordered a soup and when he asked for tortillas the response was that it didn't come with tortillas only the complimentary tostadas they provide to the table. The restaurant itself is cute, inviting and I love the music they play. But when I walked in I waited 2-3 min at the door until the servers finished their conversation. We sat down, our server was polite. I ordered the tostada mixta, I was very excited to try it. But I could see right away it was dry. When I tried the tostada, there was no flavor no salt no limón no spice NOTHING. The server apologized and told me that's not how it should be. Flavor galore! I've read some good reviews about Spicy Molcajete Nayarit and finally, I decided to go for it last Saturday for lunch. And I'm so glad I did. Spicy Molcajete Nayarit is a seafood medley sautéed in a flavorful sauce. You have a choice of the spicy level. For this take-out order, I decided for the hottest level of Molcajete and 2 al pastor tacos. OMG! This Molcajete is lit, legit, the bomb, and flavor galore! The sauce was so flavorful, not greasy, and the seafood was cooked just right. And the large shrimps were flavorful! I ate the Molcajete with the tostadas side that came with the order and with the white steam rice from home. It was actually even better with the white steam rice. Also, I was disgusted to learn that they don't clean their shrimp. They aren't deveined and the shrimp were clearly old. Where to start.. I walked in with 3 friends, and were immediately seated. The floor was wet, but the waitress was in the middle of cleaning it up. We ordered the following: a cocktail, a dinner plate of flautas, a torta and a súper burrito. Well, my friend specifically said no lettuce light beans. The waitress smiled and said perfect it will be right out. It took about 10-15 minutes for the food to arrive to the table. When my friend bit into his burrito, a huge glob of lettuce. That's when we realized they didn't add lettuce or beans to the torta. The lady acknowledged she mixed up the orders, asked if we still wanted just the lettuce for the torta and took the burrito. When she returned, she brought a plate of just lettuce. The torta was gone. This time we cut into the burrito and there was no lettuce but also no sour cream. We ordered dos tacos de cabeza.. and wouldn't you know it.. a nice long black hair to add to the already messed up order. Well here comes the waitress again. All she said was ohh oohh okay let me take that. We all immediately stopped eating when we saw the hair. No one came back, no one from the restaurant said anything. The manager nor the waitress came to address the situation. She gave us the check and said I took the tacos off. We paid $93 for this tragedy. Left no tip. Won't ever be coming back here again. Great mariscos! Spicy when you actually want it spicy! Talk about Authentic! This restaurant was not created for the gringos, they have all the good stuff you want from Puerto Vallarta or any costal town in México! Their shrimp cocktail is delicious! Love the vegetable medley they have and I like to add extra ketchup and tapatío/Valentina and eat it with crackers versus tostadas. I ordered the mojarra stilo nayarit. Its a mojara deep fried with spicy sauce and shrimp on top. I would give this dish a 3 out of 5. The sauce can use more flavor. We also had the chicken flautas. Ill give them a 3 aswell. The chicken had good flavor, but it had some fat in it. Normally some other mexican restaurants use chicken breast which makes a huge difference. But they were still ok. We also had a carne asada taco that my daughter liked. And their white rice is pretty good. Im giving 3 stars because its a hit or miss. We like some of the food here, but we really do not like going to eat here as way too noisy, people drinking a lot and it turns the place into almost like a 'bar' type scene but where you will find also kids running all around and out of control as their parents are too into the eating/drinking.
