Dropped in here on "Suz" M's co-worker's recommendation. There was only one other table occupied, and another group strolled in while we ate, but I have since learned that the location in La Puente bumps pretty hard. We were swayed by a picture of their "molcajete de mariscos" dish on the wall, so we ordered that in addition to a fish taco and a tostada de ceviche. The salsa they served was fresh and tasty with decent little kick. A few hot sauces on the table and ketchup augmented the flavor experience. The molcajete, which was adorned with a pig head, was a vast and pithy repository of spiced up (she warned us about it because of my gringo-factor) shrimp, abalone, and octopus. We ate and ate and still it was like shrimp were being shuttled in from some nether portal. The ceviche was lime-y and pleasant, but as Suz remarked, lacked "fish" flavor of the good variety. All of the seafood tasted quite fresh and the price was quite reasonable--about $20 for more than we could eat. But for hungry hungry fish hounds that can eat heaps, it would probably be just enough. I guess if you don't want to stand in line at the La Puente spot, truck on over to this one! Let it be know that I am a total seafood whore. I love mariscos (mexican seafood)....so I know what is good and not. This place puts seafood Mexican style to shame. This is my test: All seafood restaurants I judge by their shrimp cocktail (mexican style not hanging from a small glass with cocktail sauce in the middle but rather swimming in deliciousness juice of good stuff). Their coctel de camaron (shrimp cocktail) here is warm! YUCK! All cocteles de camaron should be nicely cold and chilled. Anything else is just outright disgusting. I truly wanted to like this place better than I actually did, for the following reasons: 1) I went on a cold rainy day. Unfortunately, it was actually warmer outside than it was inside. As a customer, I would expect a business to make sure that it's comfortable for its patrons. If you really care that little about your customers, just put a sign up saying so and skip the nuance. 2) Even though the portions were huge, the food just didn't do anything for me. Awesome seafood and micheladas. Been here a few times and everything I've tried I've loved. They have a specialty called pescado sarandiedo, and its amazingly grilled to perfection and is accompanied with a tasty sauce. The service is also good. Great spot for authentic Mexican style seafood! The oysters are fresh and they have a good variety of shrimp styles. My favorite dish is the Pescado Sarandeado! It is slow cooked fish over a wood fire. Gives the fish a great taste, but be warned, it is a 30 to 40 minute wait to get your fish! There is always a wait on the weekends, so be prepared to wait...STANDING UP since there is no waiting area. You just have to wait outside until your name is called. I went during this whole semana santa business, when I got there it took like 20 minutes to be seated. Trust me there were several booths available but dirty (I don't know if this restaurant is understaffed or the waiters didn't care) We ordered shrimp tacos and empanadas. Then we decided to order the shrimp tostada, how long does it take to put shrimp in a tostada! (the cook took forever) After waiting 45 minutes for three tacos, two empanadas and a tostada... I noticed the batter in the tacos was still watery and the empanada was burned with a passion, I haven't seen an empanada so burned in my life. All I can say is that this place is slowly going downhill. We talked to the lady at the cash register and asked her what was going on, we have been to this place before and it wasn't this bad. All she said was that the owner didn't bother check on them or the cook so that was the reason why the service was so horrendous. Well if I was getting paid to offer a service and I knew that is up to the staff to keep the business going and keep my job I would do better. There's no excuse!
