It was standard diner fare, but everyone was quite surprised by the size of the two pancakes. They were the size of my head. I can only eat about 2/3 of one and gave the other one away. Fast Service. Big Portions. Filling and tasty. Only minor issues were it was a little cold in the building and I only got 2 carrots with my meal but they were really good carrots. Had the Pot roast. Felt like they gave me a double portion of mash and gravy and I struggled to finish it. My gf got a reuben and same thing she could only eat half of it before packing the rest to go. A friend and I stopped here Saturday morning for a late breakfast and it was my first time to the Regional Market Area. The server was phenomenal, but the food took a bit to come out. In all fairness, it was quite busy... so I wouldn't hold that against them. I had the Philly Cheese Steak Omelet (steak, onions, peppers and provolone cheese) with toast and hashbrowns and he had eggs, bacon and wheat toast. So sorry this is half my lunch! Market Diner on Park St near the regional market. Delicious Friday fish fry. Very nicely breaded haddock, fried perfectly, still moist and not overcooked. The roll was a little more firm than I like it, but it wasn't stale..I just like softer bread. My side was homemade macaroni and cheese, with a nice little dusting of crackers on top. Market Diner's breakfast sandwich is definitely the best one I've come across in Syracuse! I usually get their Classic Breakfast Sandwich with a side of sausage links, homefries, and bacon. My eggs clearly had hair cooked into the eggs! That's right, there was hair cooked into my eggs! I asked for medium well for my steak but it was way too rare for me to eat. Not gonna lie. Much better breakfast places to be had around Syracuse. This is a 'line your belly' diner fare. And is cooked as such. I think people stop by for the convenience to the market and that's all. Scrambled egg 1 with cheese on top became 2 eggs scrambled with a slice of provolone melted over top instead of mixed in. Forgot my bacon. Then they had to fetch the bacon. Belgian waffles weren't the round, light, and fluffy kind but dense rectangles. Asked for the strawberries on side. Glad I did. Soupy, discolored and some were sour. Ugh. This close to the Farmers market you should have access to super fresh berries and fruit. What grinds my gears is that I asked if they have real maple syrup. This is upstate New York. No and the waitress pointed to the generic syrup dispenser on the table. The breakfast quesadilla was full of Scrambled eggs, cheddar, and all the extra fillings I ordered. My husband got the breakfast combo with Scrambled eggs, French toast, and sausage--huge portion! Many specialties like eggs Florentine and pumpkin pancakes - both excellent and generous, but today I had a favorite, a Belgian waffle with strawberries and whipped cream..... and I mean whipped cream. I think I may have been here on an off day last time I came. We were at the farmers market and wanted a quick and easy place to get breakfast that didn't have an hour wait like Stella's would have. It only took a minute, but I wasn't too thrilled with them. This is their style of cooking, so it might just be me. I don't like the taste of their seasoning on them and they aren't crispy at all. Outside of Long Island, diners are at a disadvantage already, but market diner surprised me. I ended up here on a Saturday afternoon because Stella's (my go-to diner) was very busy and I was very hungry-too hungry to wait. When we arrived, the hostess said we could sit where we like. We picked a booth next to window. The inside was nostalgic and classic diner with a dessert case and a counter top. Specials hung from the ceiling. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is the service. We sat with our menus for close to 15 minutes before I waved down a waitress to take our order. The "seat yourself" style may be to blame for this. I ordered the tuna melt which came on rye bread and had caramelized onions inside. Fries on the side. The fries were great-extra hot, crispy and lightly seasoned. The sandwich was rich and delicious, but the onions didn't pack as much of a flavor punch as I had wished. My husband ordered the Ruben with sweet potatoes on the side. Classically prepared, but well done. Sweet potato fries were thick cut, but did not come with honey or maple syrup. That would have been a nice touch. Both sandwiches came with a pickle. Prices are reasonable lunch level. The breakfast specials during the week, like the one advertised on the window for $1.99, are great for those who can make it there M-F from 5am-8am.
