Eggs were cooked nicely and portions were gargantuan! Very casual little diner with attentive and nice service. Breakfast is A-OK! Lots of bang for your buck. We sampled pancakes as well. I dont get the bad reviews of this place. We were next door buying shipping containers and Ryan told us to try this place for lunch. We got seated right away, the server got our drinks right away and took our order. The double cheeseburger was delicious and the fact you can get cottage cheese as a side was awesome. The reviews looked promising, but the place itself not so much. It looks like a little diner/truck stop inside but it smells like something less than desirable. The menu for dinner is 5 items. 5. That's it. The pie selection is longer. We opted for pie after watching some of the 2 other tables food. The pie was okay, it was nothing exciting. The crust on mine was doughy and not all the way cooked. The rhubarb pieces were way too big. The water was okay. The service is probably the worst of it all. Having just moved to the area we have been checking out all the best rated local places to eat. If you are visiting and looking for something healthy or vegan, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for somewhere you can get a tasty (albeit fattening) breakfast where there are regular customers then come on in! The sausage patty was well-cooked and flavorful, pancakes and French toast were delicious, English muffin was good. Husband liked his omelette and biscuits and gravy as well. The only reason I'm not rating 5 stars is because they were very understaffed when we visited and we had to ask for some things multiple times (small seating area with 2 servers and 1 cook - that was it) but it was a Tuesday morning and I don't think anyone had expected it to be that busy, the fact that we got our food within less than 30 minutes of ordering was a miracle in itself, then having the food actually be good and hot? I was very pleasantly surprised. Also, another reviewer had mentioned something about people wearing MAGA hats and hearing hate speech? Personally I didn't see or hear anything of the sort, but you're in semi-rural Utah, it's THEIR territory. A little piece of advice, if you don't want to get mauled you might not want to go walking around on the African savannahs either... This ranks as one of my worst restaurant experiences ever! After placing our breakfast orders, a long time passed before the waitress delivered bacon and over easy eggs to my wife and our friend. More time elapsed and then came their pancakes. My order of poached eggs and corned beef hash was not even on the horizon and they had just about finished their pancakes. Compounding this poor service was the fact that none of this food required much preparation. My hash probably came from a can, just needing heating on the grill, and poached eggs...! Since moving to Cedar City we have often driven past the Market Grill and noticed their parking lot was usually full; we hoped this was a sign of good food. Ooops were we wrong! The "special" was a mushroom Swiss burger- totally over cooked with a tasteless cheese sauce and soggy buns. The chicken on my husband's sandwich was over cooked to dry tastelessness. I can't believe that no one has reviewed Market Grill yet!!!! I was in Cedar City visiting some relatives and we were headed to IHOP for breakfast (cause we didn't know where else to go) and my friend (a local), called me and said to drive straight past IHOP, and head due west to Market Grill. You will think you are going the wrong way and then-- there it is. Well, we followed her advice and I will never, ever, when in Cedar, go ANYWHERE else for breakfast. The place is one of those little hole in the wall diners that you know hasn't changed much through the years. Super cozy, kinda small--well think of the place your grandpa used to love. The service was super prompt and in fact, the owner served us. She was fantastic, and never missed a beat. She told us they use the freshest local ingredients that they can find, and cook it all up to order. The food! Probably the best breakfast I remember having in a diner-- ever. The bacon was incredible (also local), the eggs were cooked perfectly (also local), and the hashbrowns and even the coffee were spot-on. The pancakes were sooo tender and light, that I almost wished I never had them, cause I will compare all others to them. Apparently I am crazy about the Market Grill because can you see how simple my meal was? My companion had the same order and we were swooning. So do yourself a favor and drive straight past the IHOP when you are in Cedar City. I know they serve dinner too. Can't wait to go again--oh and also to see my relatives:) read more

Be prepared to be surprised. The initial run-down look from the outside might say "drive by". But don't. By all means stop, stretch your legs, and spend some time. Take time to enjoy an extraordinary iceberg wedge salad (smothered in blue cheese, real bacon bits and chopped onion), or perfectly baked flaky potato, or a melt-in-your-mouth rib-eye steak, or an to-die-for piece of pie. Tried this restaurant for the first time for dinner. We ordered the prime rib, ribeye and chicken fried steak. Maybe not the best prime rib I've ever had but it was tender and tasty. The ribeye was also very good and the chicken fry was excellent! Prices were very good and the service rocked it! We decided to try it for breakfast and we weren't disappointed. This place is good if you are looking for a traditional cowboy western dining experience. It is attached to the livestock auction, and so much of the meat is fresh and local. Nothing light on this menu. Also, as I recall, the restaurant closes earlier than most (because it is also open much earlier than most), so prepare for that. When I used to live in Cedar City, I worked as a front desk clerk at a local hotel. I would recommend this restaurant to guests all the time, even over the restaurant attached to the hotel (Bard's). Stopped here on a road trip between Salt Lake and Las Vegas. This place is a small local restaurant that has a real local feel. The food is basic and the prices are reasonable. It's what i'd call a "rancher's" steak as in "it's the steak I'd get from my own cattle and serve you for dinner." if you're looking for a thick-cut and aged steak, go up to one of them fancy-pants places in the city. The taste was fine. Now the downside... it took them a couple of tries to get the steak right. I wanted medium rare. The first was medium-well. At $17.95 I expected a perfect steak. A nice little cafe for breakfast and lunch. I've been here twice now and I recommend it. Best breakfast prices in town. The manhandler, two eggs, hasbrowns and toast with choice of bacon, sausage, pork chop or ham steak, just $5.75. The earlybird specials are great deals. Bacon is thick and not fatty, the sausage patty has a touch of spice to it and is made from scratch. Service was friendly and the atmospher is very pleasant. I gave two stars because the employees were nice. We chose this place due to it's higher yelp reviews. First off, it is in a small wood shack...not a problem if the atmosphere and the food are great. It was definitely a locals place to eat. Again, not an issue. We were told to pick one of two booths, we took the one furthest from the door since it was cold and windy. The first thing I noticed was the amount of food on the floor of our booth. One thing was a full roll. My fiance ordered the ham, which he said was average. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich as an afterthought because I wasn't too hungry. The cheese in my sandwich was not completely melted on the edges where the chef should be able to see it. The "Market Grill" in Cedar City, UT is one of my favorite places to have breakfast. I ate there 3 times on my July (2012) trip to the Utah Shakespeare Festival. My dad and I discovered the "Market Grill" back in the 1980's. Every time I'm back in Cedar City I go there at least once. It is a favorite hangout by the locals (which is always a good sign). My favorite item on their menu is their "Everthing Omelette" - it's the best omelette anywhere. The hash browns are always cooked to perfection as well. The place hasn't changed much over the years - Sharon our first waitress back in the 1980's is still there - and the breakfasts are always great. Don't fail to give it a try. Worst service and food ever! First of all the waitress had an attitude the size of Texas. And it was all bad. She was rude and appeared to hate her job. The chicken fried steak was served ice cold and when we told the waitress she thru it in the microwave. Hmmm yummy NOT! it then was served rubbery and gross. The grilled cheese was served with a cold piece of cheese between toasted bread. It's pretty bad when u can't even make a grilled cheese sandwich. I found this place on Yelp while passing through town. This place has a interesting story. On Thursdays the other side of the building actually holds livestock auctions. There are stock holding fences behind the building. The Resturaunt is actually pretty small, only 12 tables and 9 seats at the bar. We ordered breakfast and it came a little slow, but was worth the wait. The "manhandler" comes with a little of everything and was delish. Pancakes were also good. The wait was long after we were seated and the food when it came was old .the corn looked like it had been reheated many times and the mashed potatoes were cold and lumpy . The pie was great! The service was pretty lacking. After what I'm assuming are hosts promptly grabbed our drinks, we sat for about 15 minutes while people walked past us, saw us and said nothing. We were at the bar and in plain site. A waitress just put her apron on and was chit chatting about her weekend at the end by the dessert display. We came in for lunch and stayed what seemed like forever. You would think that a place that shares a building with a livestock company would have good beef and amazing hamburgers. Nope, the hamburgers were extracted from the freezer, placed in the microwave, and then put on the grill. Also, who has no french fries with their burgers? They offered potato salad , cottage cheese, or plain lays potato chips. How lazy can you get? Also, the kitchen took forever to cook our frozen burgers and our waitress took forever and did not seem to know what was on the menu nor did she seem to care. Nostalgia of the locals is what keeps this place in business. The food is straight out of the Sysco cans. Breakfast is bacon, eggs, and pancake type affair. Plenty of it, and all served by a friendly staff. It is comfort food, not bad, but not great. Pretty much the type of establishment that you find in every Western small town, small, friendly, mediocre, but legendary for the locals. read more
