For all you Seattle tourists and Seattle residents, Market Grill should be on your top restaurants to visit at Pike! I came here with my family for Mother's Day and we had a lovely experience. Market grill is located right at the beginning of where the fruit and vegetable stands are, so it is very unlikely that you wouldn't see it while walking around. I highly recommend ordering the Salmon Burger with a side of Portobello Mushrooms (add extra $4.00 to original price), the clam chowder, and Salmon platter. Unfortunately, I was unable to get the name of the man and woman who were working, but WOW, their customer service was beyond excellent! The man took the time to help my family and I decide what to order, suggested to add Portobello mushrooms to my burger, and even charged me for a large clam chowder instead of charging me for 2 small ones (it was cheaper in the end). I was amazed at how fast the woman was cooking up ALL of the orders even if it was busy. For the time that my family and I were here, we were taken cared of very well considering that it is a busy market place! This is my go-to spot in Pike from now on, so best believe I will return back every time I make a visit to Pike! P.S. There are about 10-15 bar stools for people to sit and eat! This is a must eat in Seattle. The format is very simply - a walk up bar in the heart Seattle's public market with a few dine-in spots at the bar. Food is prepared right in front of you. The fish is brought from install across - and thus recently caught. I had the blackened salmon baguette sandwich and their house seafood chowder - both perfect. Seafood was fresh and delicious. Portions generous and the cost very reasonable. The three guys running this establishment are very pleasant, quick, and entertaining at times. Best. Salmon. Ever. Pre-story: my cousin stayed in a hostel this weekend and a random stranger gave him $20, insisting he had to buy a Halibut sandwich from Market Grill. At $13, a Halibut Sandwich is pretty pricey, but he felt like he just had to do it. It took a while to get our orders - he ordered Halibut, I ordered Salmon. It came with a side of coleslaw - I don't like coleslaw, but omg, this slaw was great! I'd never had spicy coleslaw before. It took forever for his order to come out, but mine was fairly fast. The bread was absolutely delicious, and the salmon - cooked with absolutely nothing added to it, was the best I'd ever had (and I've had a lot of salmon!). We came to Seattle not knowing what we are gonna end up eating. We settled for salmon and shrimp because Seattle, we heard, are best known for their fish, especially Salmon. There were two choices which is either to make the protein a sandwich or a plate. The plate consists of salad, rice , a buttered toast and the protein; while the sandwich consists of caramelized onion, tomato, protein, and lettuce. We chose one protein a sandwich and one a plate. All I can describe to you guys was my face. I am super asian so my eyes aren't really the biggest; but man though, after eating their food? My eyes were animated, my palette was heightened. All of our food was cooked on the grill and you can tell that it was made with love hundred percent. I love their combination of passion and amazing food. I did not mind the humidity, and my sweat. We tried plenty of seafood joints around Pike and I can honestly say that their food was below subpar at best. Their clam chowder was horrendous. They should rename it to potato chowder because our cup was overflowed with giant chunks of potatoes with very limited quantity of clams. Trust me, spend your money at Pike Place Chowder next door. It's wayyy better by ten folds. As for the service experience, our female server(forgot her name) was real friendly to us, but it looked like she was miserable. Maybe it's because of how the restaurant's cook/possible owner, Drew is treating everyone there. Yes, that includes customers as well. My friend politely raised his hand and asked, "Excuse me, sir?" He replied, "Am I a 'SIR'? I'm not a sir. I'm not your server, I'm the cook." If you're not a sir, can my friend call you a douche instead? It fits the bill. Then he announced to everyone sitting at their tables to leave if they're not ordering any food and literally calls out two tables to do just that. Of course that led to a verbal assault match between him and the customer. A) As a cook, this Drew guy does not belong in the kitchen PERIOD. A friend we were visiting Seattle with insisted we drop by here for some Chowder and wow...pretty dang tasty. My only suggestion is using fresh herbs instead of dried since I think I would love it even more but it was a great west coast chowder which is rare to find. I am an east coast girl so it is hard to impress me. I will say their sandwiches look amazing and I hear great things so I wished I was hungry enough to grab one when we went. A great place to grab some good, quick grub, and do some people watching. The clam chowder is to die for, and I don't even really like clam chowder. Go figure it was the recipient of a clam chowder award. A side of homemade cole slaw is a must too. My blackened salmon, while clearly fresh, was a little bland. However, the accomodating organic greens salad really hit the spot. I went half and half with rice and a salad as a side, but really I could have done without the (too healthy tasting) rice. When I compile my list of Places I love / Places that make me happy, Market Grill will definitely be on the list. First of all, it's smack dab in the middle of the market so do not go in tourist season nor should you go at peak lunch time. There are about six seats at the counter and room to stand around for about five more. The menu is salmon or halibut sandwiches and clam chowder. And soda. Market Grill actually gets a point knocked off for the Seattle-style of serving sandwiches on those mouth-wrenching hard baguettes. You know, your mouth gets all torn up inside from eating the grilled bread. But the place gets the point back for offering a choice of having your fish on salad greens or rice, so take your choice. The fish is consistently perfectly cooked. When was the last time a restaurant, any restaurant, consistently cooked its fish perfectly? And the staff is so patient... they must explain a hundred times a day the choices. It's a bit confusing... you can have your fish on bread, salad or rice. The salad and rice are not sides to the sandwich as you might think a "platter" suggests. A platter is a sandwich with a side of slaw. You cannot order just a sandwich. You can modify your platter order by subbing in salad or rice for the fish on bread. If you order the platter with the fish on salad it comes with toasted bread. Got it? Free refills on from the soda fountain. Two full-sized napkins. Great servers. All around great place. read more

When my idea to try Market Grill for lunch solidified, I circled Pike Place Market patiently and found a spot on about the 4th time around. Market Grill ended up being a great choice. The counter staff pulled a makeshift stool up for me at the counter(no space!) and made my sandwich (literally like 2 feet away from the counter) while I quickly ate homemade coleslaw (comes with the sandwich)- as my tummy rumbled and I read my book. We ordered the blackened salmon sandwich with a cup of clam chowder. Both tasted pretty good, but nothing to write home about. And for what you got, the prices were expensive. We did like that the food was fresh and quickly prepared and brought to us. We weren't able to sit down and eat our food, but we were ok with standing at the bar while we ate. Wandered the market with so many food choices I went to yelp and found this little gem. It is 8 seats around a bar, but the service is quick. I had the salmon sandwich on the fresh bread. Totally delicious! The salmon in my sandwich was so tender/flakey/soft and juicy it actually caught me off guard. So fresh tasting and the perfect combination of crispy-on-the-outside-but-soft-inside LePanier bread, meat, and veggies. The cajun seasoning that they used didn't overwhelm the salmon either, so don't be afraid if they ask to put it on. I shared the salmon sandwich and a 12oz clam chowder with my boyfriend and was sufficiently full afterwards. I've been hearing great things about Market Grill and finally had a chance to try it today with Eric. We were able to easily find a couple barstool seats when we swung by around noon. The market was surprisingly quiet, maybe we beat the lunch crew. The menu is limited (sandwich, platter or chowder), making it easy to make a selection. We opted for the salmon platter. You can choose whether to have rice, salad or half of each with your salmon. Each platter comes with a piece of Le Panier baguette, buttered and grilled, warm and toasty, delicious and crunchy. I think the sandwich would've been the winner here. The grilled salmon was definitely fresh and whatever they drizzled on the brown rice was tasty, but the brown rice and salad themselves are nothing to write home about. I imagine the grilled salmon would've been better with the baguette and all the works. Service was okay and they accept credit cards, which was good. It does feel like you should be rushing to get out of there as soon as you're done with your food though, since there are only a few barstools available and many hungry eyes wandering down the hall of Pike Place Market. Love the market first off, what a fun place. But more importantly I had the salmon sandwich since this place is a top 50 Zagat spot for sandwiches. It was very good. High quality fish on a delicious toasted roll with lettuce, mayo, and onions. Very good combination of flavors! My only gripe and why I did not give 5 stars is it just wasn't very big. I think it was around $14 after tax and I could have definitely eaten another one. So if you are really hungry I'd add a soup or something. read more

Recommendation for those heading to the market. Do not eat before coming here. There are so many good eats around and within the market, that coming here with a full stomach is a travesty. I came here with a buddy from out of town after checking out the flying fish and shared a halibut sandwich and cole slaw. The cole slaw was amazing! Best cole slaw I've ever had. The dill they used for the cole slaw was very tasty. The halibut sandwich was perfectly grilled with a blacked rub that was not too salty. It's a bit pricey at $12 but well worth it. It was really cool to sit at the bar and watch as all the tourists walked by. Definitely will come back when I'm in town. Service was pretty good. Some places we went in Seattle was through a friend and others we stumbled across. This place was right in the smack of the pike market so we had to try it out. Only thing that was disappointing was that we didnt try it out earlier! We had just ate so didnt get much. Shared a clam chowder which was ok. That was of course because we had tried out pike place chowder. Also shared a blackened albacore. OHHH EMMM GEE. Sauce good, albacore good, bread good. Whats not to like? It was so good we went back the next day and got two sandwiches to go for our trip back to San Jose. The salmon which seemed like the favorite wasnt as good as the albacore but still hit the spot. Ah, we always go here everytime we go to Pike Place. I always get either the Halibut sandwich or the Halibut platter. The sandwich comes in a french bread from Le Panier, delicious. The fish is fresh and why wouldn't it be? The Market Grill is inside pike place across from all the fish vendors! The cook takes it out and grills it in front of you with an option to add the blackening seasoning. I always get that. The platter comes with garlic bread, organic brown rice and organic salad. The rice is slightly flavored from the delicious dressing they have from the salad and it's soooo good. The fish is also very good. I've also had their clam chowder and I like it also. Ah, maybe I'll stop by this weekend. It's also a fun atmosphere because you can sit on the stools and watch people as you enjoy your fish. I've recommended this place to everyone I know! Maybe it was just me but I didn't find a whole lot of options to get some quick food at Pikes Place Market with room to place your suitcase (we just had arrives in Seattle via the airport). So I went on Yelp and found this place....Yelp delivers again. Tried both their salmon and halibut sandwiches with a rosemary mayo sauce and homemade tartar sauce respectively. Both were more than $10 and absolutely delicious. I did prefer the salmon sandwich a bit more, it's also their more popular sandwich. Cole slaw was given on the side and a side bowl of clam chowder (homemade daily and they come hours before opening to make it) is also recommended to compliment the meal. The couple of people working there were fabulous and entertained tourist like ourselves and conversed well while grilling our salmon fillets. If you go to Pikes Place Market, make sure to hit up the Market Grill. read more
