I gotta say, I was stunned to learn that the salmon in the deli is farm raised salmon. Pacific Northwest based market of choice uses farm raised salmon? Holy shit. I go there every Friday to get my weekly dose of healthy fish and really never ever even gave consideration to the idea that it might be farm raised. But then I looked at the placard today and saw the fine print that says they sell farm raised salmon. Shame on them. I go there every Friday and get salmon from the deli. Bakery issue... We ordered a cake for my son's birthday. I had ordered cakes through them at this location over the years maybe 10 times. They're expensive so I generally save ordering from Market of Choice for a special birthday... not just an average one. It was $60 and it looked BEAUTIFUL. My first indication that it wasn't going to be all that good was the fact that while cutting it after singing happy birthday, the frosting was coming up in chunks, not staying flat on the cake. It was really odd... but the reason it did that was that their butter cream or fondant was thick as can be... in fact, there was much more chunky frosting on the cake than actual CAKE. And the frosting, due to its thickness, was coming away from the cake in slabs. Several of the kids (and my family, too) just ate the cake from the center and left the other half of the piece that was on their plate alone- the "frosting". The KIDS said the frosting was too thick and too sugary. Yes, the kids. Us adults had issues with it, too... and it was in the center, as well, between the 2 layers, which made them separate in a weird way, too. The cake, except for the bottom 1/3 of the lower layer, was ok. The bottom was either overcooked or it was freezer burned from being a frozen layer of cake and used when it was needed... and it was hard and darker (darker yellow that the rest of the white cake layer)... and so it wasn't edible, either. It looked amazing. But the fact that it was supposed to be edible food was problematic. Normally, I'd not say anything but a few of the ones we'd gotten from them over the years had the same frosting issue except that it was the fact that the frosting was SO MUCH of the overall cake, that it was ridiculous what was paid for it... and, again, it was THICK, LIKE A MASSIVE BLANKET molded over the soft layer cake inside. Anyhow... not a good bargain at $60. That will be our last Market of Choice Bakery cake. read more

I needed a bottle of wine and was a little overwhelmed by their selection, but the wine guy was super helpful and narrowed the dozens of choices down to four. It is across the street from a high school so depending on the time of day it can be really busy. All in all, a beautiful store with a pretty easy layout to navigate. read more

Well, today was the last straw! Over many years we have had a few minor complaints with the bakery mainly about mistakes made on names(!) on birthday cakes or decorations. We have always treated the staff there with respect and friendliness. And have had the same treatment in return, EXCEPT for the woman in the bakery named Allison who Identifies herself as the Assistant Manager. She has consistently acted in a rude and abrupt manner. In fact, if you wanted to show someone how NOT to treat customers, you would use Allison as an example. Why Allison is still there, I have not a clue. The only conclusion I can come to is that store and company management just don't care; or, who knows, they might even like how she treats customers. Which brings us to today's story with Allison in the starring role. We ordered a birthday cake for my brother on Monday, April 1 for his birthday on Tuesday, April 2. When I got home with the cake on Tuesday evening before the party, she took one look at the cake and was obviously very unhappy with it. Unknown to me, she had ordered a cake with decorations intended to be Duck colors: green writing and leaves with yellow flowers on cream cheese frosting. What we received was a birthday cake with orange flowers and black leaves and text: Beaver colors. Whether this was someone's idea of a joke or not, my wife gave them the benefit of the doubt, but decided to call the bakery that same Tuesday evening, April 2 at about 7:30pm to let them know what happened. She thought it was possible that someone else might have ordered a cake with Beaver colors and that we had been given the wrong cake. She spoke to Jake who apologized for the error and offered to refund the price of the cake. We had not asked for that, but it was a nice gesture. After going "upstairs" to get an authorization from a manager, Jake told my wife that he would leave a note at the register and that she should just come in for a credit to be applied to our card. Today, we did what Jake told us to do: my wife went to the store and found Allison behind the counter. She greeted my wife with silence. After my wife explained what had happened and what Jake had told us to do, she left without a word to get the piece of paper from the cash register. When she returned, she asked what the problem had been. When my wife told her about the colors on the cake and showed her a photo of it on her phone, Allison's response was: "It looks yellow and green to me". My flabbergasted wife saw a package of candies nearby with yellow and green decorations and said, "No, this is yellow and green". For some reason, Allison chose to begin to begin an argument with my wife about how the colors on our cake were just different shades of yellow and green, and that there were lots of different shades of yellow and green. Finally, Allison said that she had to talk with her manager before she could do anything. She left for a long period to speak with Diana, the Bakery Manager, who stars in a supporting role in this farce. Allison walked away at that point and Diana arrived at the counter. At this point, Diana had my wife explain, yet again what the problems were with the cake. Diana's response was that "Well, if you go into a Duck store there are many different shades of yellow and green". What happened next was a complete and utter surprise; Diana told my wife "Well, I know we've had problems with your orders before (!). You have complained in the past about orders from us. You've complained about the taste of some chocolate muffins, and you've complained about birthday cakes, too." TIME OUT Does Market of Choice keep index cards on customers who complain? Are they keeping some kind of list of customers they don't like? RESUME Ultimately, Diana gave my wife the refund, after admonishing her to be more specific when she tells the bakery staff what colors she would like to see on the finished product. She even suggested using fabric samples to show the colors we wanted! The message was pretty clear: "We're giving you this refund even though it was you who didn't adequately describe the correct colors and you who have been a problem customer in the past". You know, I couldn't make this stuff up. Diana and Allison put my wife through a humiliating interrogation and lecture over a $20 refund that their own staff, with the approval of a Market of Choice manager, told us to come in to get. All of this over a refund we didn't even ask for. To Mr Wright, the owner of Market of Choice, I will say this: you might want to pay a little more attention to how your employees treat your customers; my wife and I won't darken your door again. And to Allison: Find another job that doesn't involve contact with customers. You will be much happier and so will the customers. And to anyone reading this, shop at Safeway or Whole Foods. You'll be happier too. read more

I love this Market of Choice location for a variety of reasons. First, the handicap parking is super close to the door, and easy to get in and out of the parking area. When I take my mother shopping with me, this is a huge advantage. The produce, meat and dairy sections are great. They seem to have more choices in the ice cream department as well. They also carry the peppermint oil I use for my headaches too. They have great sales on Umpqua dairy products fairly often. The employees are always friendly and helpful. There seems to be a lot more employees at this location versus the one off Franklin Blvd. so you don't have to walk the entire store to find someone if you have a question. The fact they have a better selection of products, my peppermint oil, and good employees is what keeps me returning to this location. read more

I enjoy this location, though when I am coming from Coburg I hate having to drive to the end of the parking lot and make my way back toward the store. The deli sandwiches are awesome; I usually go with herb turkey on a ciabatta with mayo, cranberry sauce, sprouts and lettuce. YUM I never had Mama Leones soup until this store and WOW! I have never seen this location as busy as the one in South Eugene, and I like that about it. It's conveniently located off of Coburg Road and pretty much like every other MOC store. They don't have as big of a gift/seasonal section as the one in South Eugene but everything else seems pretty consistent. I wish their pre-made food wasn't so overpriced I would go there more often for lunch. I just can't justify a $10 sandwich sitting in a refrigerator. Anyways I like how fresh their produce is and they have a great selection of bulk items. The people who work here are always really nice to me and it's easy to park in their parking lot. read more

Had a small two tier cake made for a wedding and ended up being lopsided and the flavor was wrong. The cream cheese frosting is a very different odd type flavor and definitely not to my liking. I won't be ordering through the bakery again. Also, some of the bakery staff may need some customer service training. Maybe start with smiling. read more

Oh Market of Choice, why are you so good yet so expensive? Alrighty, I have some praises and some gripes about this place. Praise 1: very close to where i live. If i need something on my way home from work I can go in and get it without trekking all the way to Safeway. Gripe 1: this place has narrow aisles! Praise 2: Stumptown coffee! Gripe 2: The restroom is in need of repairs. I went in to use it one time and discovered that the toilet was very close to coming loose from the floor it was supped to be secured to. Praise 3: Their bakery and deli section are very convenient! I use the deli sometimes when i want to add a pasta to something I'm making. Their Pizza by the slice is spendy but good. The crust has a nice crunch, but is very light and thin, but chewy. In my opinion, you are better off getting a whole pie. it only takes about 10 minutes. And is great for making friends. One of the best pies in town. read more

This is our regular grocery store. We have been coming here for years and years. I wanted to review it now as a sort of shout-out to them for getting us safely and healthily through this whole covid experience. Our family has not *knock on wood* experienced a single covid infection, and we tend to think it is because we chose very early on during the pandemic to only shop at places that took things seriously. They were among the first places to put up the barriers, require masks, set up hand washing and sanitizing stations, and even provide disposable gloves for customer use. We have been so impressed with how our store has handled these crazy stressful times. Our family is fully vaccinated but we are still choosing to continue to wear masks, and we like seeing the staff and some customers also continuing to mask. It makes us feel safe, and it makes us feel like MOC cares about us and our community. In addition to safety and health, we are always finding what we need there, and we are pretty picky. The buyers have also special ordered products for us over the years and that has been really great, too. I only left off one star because we have heard from long time employees that the benefits and pay for them is not great, and that they do not even receive a discount while shopping there for their own groceries. As a long-time employee in the natural food industry myself, I found that pretty surprising. I do wish MOC would improve benefits, pay, and overall employee morale for the very people making their stores an awesome place to shop. It only seems right. Aside from that, we love shopping at MOC. I've been a Market of Choice fan since I moved here. I used to like all their stores equally until today when this location made my day. I like a great salad bar for lunch. This location has the best one. Lots of fresh, organic components and a chopped kale salad are definitely fantastic, but the salad bar wins for me because of these absolutely amazing Mediterranean beets. I just love them so very much. I looked for them on the shelf with the other jars/cans of beets but didn't see them. When I casually asked the very nice person at the register about them, she went out of her way to find out the source of these crazy good beets, after she mimicked my yum face btw. The manager told me that these beets come in giant cans which is why they are not on the shelf. Then he took my name and phone number so he could find out if I could get my hands on reasonably sized portions of these beets. Today, I got a call from the market letting me know that they are still working on this for me. Wow! A few days had gone by and I didn't really expect them to follow up just because I was already surprised that they would be willing to try at all. The fact that they called me to tell me that the source is closed for 4th of July and that they will call them again for me on Monday is simply incredible. I never expected any grocery store to go out of their way for such a small request like this. Way to go! I know people say they are too pricey compared to other chain grocery stores, and while I tend to spend more here than in other grocery stores this size, it's really about getting your money's worth. This store (and the others) stock food from your town. You can stock your entire kitchen with local products that may cost a little more but keep your money in your town and in the pockets of your neighbors. Plus, they are willing to go out of their way to get me some damn good beets. Oh happy day. read more

The BEST Market of Choice! Everytime I am in this store I can count on finding what I need... Customer service is the best! I have not met a cranky person here....I live by the Market of Choice on Greenacres but I would drive to Willakenzie whenever I can....everyone is really helpful and friendly. Great selection of Oregon craft brews. I spent nearly 45 minutes looking and deciding. My only issue, was that quite a few of the IPAs I looked at were way out of date, ie more than 6 months old. With IPAs, you want fresh. That way the hop profiles aren't faded. If you do go here, check the dates on the IPAs. read more

Customer be warned... if you're not a Caucasian person, be wary of whom this Market of Choice employ, especially the checkout cashier ladies. I've had multiple situations where the racism was painfully obvious. Reporting this to their management does nothing. One time in particular while checking out, the older female cashier was really nice and chatty with the young (Caucasian) girl ahead of me (she looked to be in her late teens/early 20s). Just general customer chitchat, nothing familiar. When she finished and looked up at me, her pleasant demeanor suddenly changed into an unpleasant scowl. She glanced downward without even mumbling a greeting, which was a stark difference to how she was a few seconds ago. I then said hi to her with no response, not even eye contact. I tried to hand over my bags since they normally bag your stuff, but she curtly tells me, "I'm busy, bag it yourself" ...so I did, but was taken aback and rather confused, wondering what the heck did I do to her to deserve this treatment (since I have never seen or met her before). After she finished scanning my groceries, I paused bagging and ran my credit card through, then continued to bag. The credit card signer became ready while I was still bagging and instead of helping me bag, in a very animated expression, she did this irritated tsk-sigh at me, rolled her eyes, grabbed the sign pad pen and scribbled a bunch of lines on the sign pad then furiously tapped the pad until she managed to hit the "OK" button (is that even legal?). She then shoved the rest of my groceries to the end of her lane-- pushed them to the point of squishing my food with this irritated annoyed look on her face. Then she turned to look at the ONLY person waiting behind me, her demeanor changing back to being all smiles, happily greeting the older (and Caucasian) lady behind me. I did my best not to start crying right there. I was shaking and bewildered. I was in such a state of shock and baffled by what just happened that I tried my best to rush out of there, driving home in tears. When I got home, I just sat in the car crying. After I told all of this to my husband, he called their management and they said they'd "take care of it". I wish I had the guts to stand up for myself and demand a refund/explanation for this treatment, but not all of us are built that way. Fast forward to another visit... the same lady was the only aisle open which gave me pause. However, my husband was with me this time so we hesitantly checked out. Unlike me, he's Caucasian. He had a single 20oz. bottle of hard cider for himself in the cart. I was present but attempted to keep a low profile by bagging our groceries in fear of her squishing our food again. She was relatively cheery, speaking only to my husband. The bottle of alcohol came up and she stops to ask for both of our IDs, making an exaggerated scene (she's a very animated brunette lady who likes waving her arms about). I ran out of the house without my purse so I didn't have my card on me. I'm pushing 40 years old; I don't think I look under-aged, plus I wasn't checking out. The cashier barked out "Well, guess you can't buy this!", even though my husband gave her his ID. He put up a fight (not so much for the bottle, but because of how she handled the situation) saying he's never been stopped like this before and would like to speak to a manager because this is absurd. All she did was look around at the other cashiers and asked "do you know these two?" Nobody answered so she proceeded to toss out ridiculous & irrelevant "trick" questions, such as what year and how long we've been married. (Huh?!) On another visit, my husband went in ALONE, checking out with a different cashier. This lady greeted my husband with a long-winded rant about Trump protesters and how they should stop. My husband responded that it is our right as American citizens to protest what we disagree on (preferably WITHOUT violence). She remained silent for the rest of the duration, quietly handing him his receipt. I normally don't care for self check-out lanes (because they hurt employment), but this is one place I wish they existed. I'd probably still shop there if they did due to their variety and quality of food. There are some nice employees (particularly the sushi creators; they are really nice & accommodating), but since we've moved to Eugene, this has been one of the most racist locations I've shopped at. Just because I'm not Caucasian doesn't mean I'm not American. We're all human beings who breathe the same air and have the same blood running through our veins. This is also 2017 for God's sake! If anyone has a right to treat us like foreigners, it's the Native Americans (aka "Indians" even though it's a mislabel)... NOT Caucasian immigrants from Europe. read more

Yep! I like the size and offerings at this store. It's close to Rainbow Optics and Walgreens. It's become my local grocery. I can get the same things at other stores. Actually, I think the Delta location may be a little closer, but the atmosphere here is just to my liking. Over all Market of Choice is primo. I used to shop at the Willakenzie Rd. Market of Choice, but I had problems with one of the check out girls calling me an idiot on two occasions for no reason, and cheap (for trying to use a rain check). I wrote in to the Market Of Choice website, and posted my problems and the manager of the Willakenzie Market of choice posted that obviously wasn't his store as his employee's wouldn't do that. Great customer service! Needless to say, I haven't purchased anything from Market of Choice since then. Now I just special order what I want from Fred Meyer's health food department. read more
