First visit: Best crab cake I've had on the West Coast. Alfie was an incredible waiter. Made me want to order everything on the menu. I went with the highly recommended fried chicken. I was disappointed as it didn't have much flavor. Needed more salt/pepper/spices. For dessert we got the butterscotch pudding. Delicious, I would definitely get it again. Second visit: The service was not quite as good this time. They never came by to refill my water. For food we ordered three appetizers. We got the crab cake again, still as good as I remember. We also ordered the spinach dip and crispy calamari. Both were good, but the crab cake is still by far my favorite thing on the menu. Let's start with the staff here they are all so nice. I tasted most of what everyone ordered and everything was delicious!! We had two of the pastrami sandwiches, which comes with a side of soup (the strawberry and peach yogurt something ) a cup of soup and a cookie were $19. The meat was a little tough and certainly the sandwich was a bit difficult to eat but were too fatty. I had the special porcini mushroom ravioli with blistered tomatoes and wow the flavors were yummy. The champagne battered fish and chips were also crispy and had a good flavor! (since the other dishes was each awesomely tasting, this one pale to stand up against the others. i would skip this next time. Great spot! Popped in on a Sunday for a light afternoon bite before our wine tasting, and surprisingly was able to be seated quickly without a reservation. Restaurant is clean and well maintained. Tables were all distanced appropriately for safe social distancing. Staff wore masks and reviewed new safety protocols. Kayla our server was well versed in menu, attentive and an absolute pleasure. Our party enjoyed the Dungeness Crab Cake, Dungeness Crab Rolls and Very Adult Mac n ' Cheese. We LOVED it all, including the s'mores and tiramisu! This is an excellent Napa valley restaurant. We are visitors from Indiana and Ohio and we're treated with exquisite service. We all shared multiple appetizers. We had the tuna poke, lobster rolls, and calamari. I thought the ahi tuna poke was excellent and 5 star quality. The calimari was delicious and the veggies as well. The lobster roll I found to be off putting due to the mint in the roll. I spent 3 years living in Maine so I've a well formed expectation around lobster rolls. For entrees we ordered several different dishes. I went away from my comfort zone (red meat) and went with the organic chicken breast with a side or garlic spinach. My friends had the organic fried chicken, the steak and the fish n chips. Everyone left feeling we had an excellent meal and the cost was comparable to upscale Midwest pricing, I'll be there next rime we visit. 3.5 stars Since we all agreed not to go to Gott's roadside, we consulted yelp on a decent place to have a sit down lunch on the way to our next wine stop in Calistoga. Market was available on opentable too. I always crave for something heavy to soak up the Jesus Juice whenever I'm in wine country. A MMMeaty burger with fries fit the ball. Market uses 1/2 lb. Niman Ranch beef patty topped with cheddar and grilled onions. Perfectly seasoned and cooked to my liking and not bad for $14. Others were not as satisfied with their bland fried chicken breast or just felt ok with the small fish tacos. I usually bump it up a notch with attentive service and Market does great in that area. Kudos to the staff. I wouldn't mind stopping by again next time -- St. Helena is such a charming town. read more

Found this restaurant the night before with Soo S. as we were planning our day for Napa. The minute she read "organic fried chicken", she had her mind set on going to the Market. So the next day, we drove to the Market. We were able to get seated right away without any reservations because we arrived around 11am. I would recommend making reservations if you plan on coming here during prime lunch time. Make sure to order their ginger ale made fresh to order. The menu is very simple and the prices are $15 and up. We started off with their Cioppino Mussel Appetizer. OMG!!!! This dish didn't stand a chance! We completely gobbled it up within 5 minutes and wanted to order another one but stopped ourselves! Wow, I had never had mussels THIS good before! LOVE the Cioppino stew base! This is a must order item from this restaurant! Order 2! One will not be enough. It's THAT good! Unless you are a size 0 and are not in any hurry to lose weight, do not order their mac and cheese. It's loaded with cream and butter. I wasn't sure how heavy this dish would be and was curious to try it. Big mistake for someone who's trying to eat healthier and lose weight. How was the dish? VERY good! But again, good food comes with 1000000 calories and fat. The boys ordered the ahi seared tuna burger and regular 1/4 lb burger which were both very good. They seem to be very happy and quiet when the food came out. Good sign. Overall, the food is prepared with excellent ingredients and the service is very attentive. Terrific food and service in a down-to-earth setting. Best mac & cheese ever to boot! The location in downtown St Helena, away from the Yountville madness is a plus, and the cooking is terrific. Market has a well diversified menu, a friendly and knowledgable staff and a relaxed and comfortable ambience. Another plus is that there is no corkage fee...we shared our wines with the staff. Our table shared a burrata and tomato appetizer, and then chowed down on the flatiron steak and lamb shank. Both came with delicious sides (grilled babay asparagus and a potato au gratin). But we could not resist sharing an order of the KILLER mac and cheese as well. This was all washed down with a bottle of 2010 Behrens & Hitchcock Family Reserve and a 2010 Hall Bergfeld St Helena Cabernet. One of my favorite spots in the valley. Came here this past weekend for lunch with our friends who are big fans of Market and it did not disappoint. Our server Alfie was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about their menu and recommendations. Prices are reasonable for what you get in an area where many restaurants are overpriced and the no corkage fee for Napa Valley wines make it a great value to enjoy some wines you know you'll like paired with their food. Food entree wise for lunch is more American comfort food with choice between fried chicken, mac and cheese, and fish and chips. The champagne batter on the fish and chips make it nice and light, maybe a little too light for the amount of wine we consumed that day wine tasting and with lunch but overall, very satisfying and a good option for a nice sit down meal. After many outstanding meals during our stay in the valley, we had reservations here on our last night. Looking at the menu online, we almost cancelled, thinking choices were limited (how many times can you eat fried chicken, mac n'cheese, ribs, filet, short ribs?--on almost every menu around here). But...so glad we stuck with our plan. EVERYTHING was so fresh and well-preared. Really great stuff! And our choices ended up almost vegetarian... --Can't remember a crab cake as unusual and tasty with sweet white corn, asparagus, English peas and coriander lime butter sauce. --Fried Green Zebra Tomatoes with Romesco sauce and aged Balsamic. Wow, wow, wow. --Chopped market salad was far from ordinary with broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, bacon, blue cheese, eggs, avocado, and mustard vinaigrette. --Fettuccini with chanterelles, summer squash, olives, arugula, cherry tomatoes and basil Parmesan butter was an awesome flavor combination and fantastic presentation. Tables on either side of us were locals (frequent diners, who knew immediately their order without perusing the menu), says a lot. Thank you Yelp for helping us find this great place. I booked a table at 6:00 on Opentable and the bar was busy, but the dining room was not. At first, I was apprehensive, but upon looking at the menu, it was comfort food. The reason for the missing 2 stars is upon checking in, the greeter and our waiter didn't check off our reservation on Open Table, and I was later informed by OT that I was a "no show". That really irritated me, because I specifically said to the waiter, we have 6:00 reservations under my name. My BF had the medallion pepper steak as a starter, andhis mom had the potato leak, while I had the bisque. I was surprised that the waiter didn't know how the bisque was prepared, as I asked if there was a shot of brandy (or any alcohol) in the soup. He didn't know, and had to ask the kitchen, who also wasn't sure. Hmmmm... odd. Both starters were very tasty. My BF had Louie Salad, which had chunks of crab, his mom had the fish and chips (which was excellent!), and I had the St. Louis ribs, which was very meaty, but also a very heavy dish. I should have stuck with my first choice: the fried chicken. Oh well. The food was well presented, our server didn't rush us, but sometimes he was hard to find. I'd come back for the food, but upon checking in, I will make sure to see the host check us off on Open Table... not just for the 100 points, but to make sure I don't get dinged for being a no show. Way overpriced for Applebee's equivalent food. Actually Applebees is probably better since they don't try to be fancy with anything. We got the fish and chips and the ribeye. The fish and chips was one of the worst I've ever had. The fish itself was dry and tasted like it had been sitting out for the entire day. They advertised the batter as light and crisp since it was a champaign batter instead of beer battered. Instead it was undercooked, soggy, and reeked of champaign. Bleh. For the ribeye, we asked for it to be cooked medium rare, but instead we got medium. Which maybe was a good idea since the meat had questionable quality. While medium steaks are generally not that bad, this one was so dry and chewy that our jaws were sore at the end of the meal. To top it all off, they automatically charged us 20% gratuity, which is usually fine, except they calculated it wrong and it ended up being closer to 22% (I am real good at math so I know their calculations were wrong)! I don't mind the extra tip, but the dishonesty is what gets me. Unfortunately we did not notice until much later and could not get them to fix it. My guess is that this is a case of greedy owners doing anything they can to get an extra cent. The only good thing from the night was the little tiny onion ring they give you with the ribeye. It was nice and crispy with actual flavor added. My guess, is that they don't make these in house. Maybe from Applebees? Also, just to be clear, it was one single onion ring. And I'm pretty sure the onion they used was for ants. Cause it was so small. Like ants. The staff was very nice though! The beauty of the space pulled us in, and the good food and excellent service will bring us back again. We arrived in the town of St. Helena on a Sunday around 1pm. The weather was perfect, and people were everywhere. We thought for sure we'd have to wait to get a seat just about anywhere. Luckily, though busy, they were able to sit us right away. The menu had a selection of brunch dishes as well as mostly comfort food-ish lunch choices. We opted for the short rib scramble and the huevos rancheros. I almost opted for the poke salad which I somewhat regretted when I saw how beautiful it looked as it was being delivered to a table next to us. Fortunately, our food arrived shortly after and I was perfectly satisfied with my heartier short rib scramble option. The fried potatoes were particularly well executed, a simple thing but harder to find than you'd think. My husband especially loved the salsa on his dish. Turns out one of the owners makes it at home from veggies at the restaurant and brings it in the next day for service. It just has that taste of love and extra attention. Also, his eggs were perfectly fried and beautifully runny. This is kind of stupid but can I just say I love the ice they put in their drinks? Not many people are ice snobs, but I shamefully admit to that title. Squares of perfectly purified and clear cubes generously filled my iced tea. I was happy to munch on the ice after the tea was gone. Moving on from that weird over share... My husband also enjoyed an iced latte which could take on any high end coffee place in town. I'm a local tourist, given I'm from s.f.. We went to Market on Tuesday night and had such a marvelous dinner that we came back the next day for lunch. Everything we had was exquisite. We had the tomato and watermelon salad, the calamari (best ever and being from sf I've eaten a lot of calamari) and the filet, which was to die for. For cocktails we had the refreshing Sassy sai and Aperol spritz. Luis, our waiter was delightful and timed everything perfectly. We had the peach and blueberry crisp for desert, which I loved because they let the ripe fruit do it's thing without adding a ton of sugar. The well-seasoned short ribs fell off the bones. Cons: Organic fried chicken was dry and needed seasoning. The batter also needed work; it was rather hard and could chip a tooth if not careful. The gravy accompaniment was forgettable. Otherwise the other items on the entree were good: garlic spinach, cheddar jalapeno corn bread and mashed potatoes. What a special spot in St Helena. Fine dining in the back and bar seating in the front. Although, anyone sat anywhere was treated fabulously. Like everything right now, they were understaffed but they didn't let it impact our experience at all. It was actually quite spectacular how they kept up the attention to detail with obviously not enough people. Our server took our orders meticulously and made all the cocktails for the restaurant and still was able to recite all the specials from memory. Nice job Meghan. The food was amazing, every bite. If the Chile soup is on the specials, definitely order. It wasn't too spicy and so flavorful!!The cocktails were delicious and unique. I will be working to create my own coffee infused Negroni now.
