BEWARE OF FRAUD. AND BLATANT DISRESPECT FROM BILLING AND OFFICE STAFF. First of all, I do want to say that I love this practice. The hygienists and doctors have been fantastic however, I was overcharged twice including once in December by over $1000. After talking to my insurance for verification, I called the practice and spoke with the office manager. I sent over everything, including statements from my insurance and was sent back actual copy/paste answers from their website - not anything specific to my case or request. This went on for 2 weeks until I stopped hearing back from her all together. My insurance called and spoke with her, informed her how much I should be refunded based on my insurance providers contract with marketplace smiles. Over a week later, still no emails or calls back from the practice regarding this. My insurance has stated that they cannot force marketplace to refund me unless I filed an official over collection complaint, which can take 60 days to rectify. PLEASE be sure to compare your bill to your insurance's explanation of benefits very carefully. If anyone has found themselves on a similar billing issue, please share. read more

Not great. They upscale you on a simple cleaning and claim you need deep cleanings that are costly (over 600$). Then I was told I needed a follow up within 3 months and when I came to my follow up the hygienist told me I might need another deep cleaning (600$ again) because my gums were not looking good. I recommend shopping around and getting a second opinion like I will be doing. read more

I called to get my payments made for 2025 as I'm right in the middle of doing my taxes. The guy I spoke to said he'd get that right over. I waiting 15 minutes. It's now 3:30pm. I called multiple times and nobody answered. I got a hold of their call center and they tried calling multiple times with no answer. So now I have to wait 3 days to finish my taxes because this place decides they don't need to answer the phone 30 minutes before closing. Complete and total lack of respect for their patients. I had an issue with billing previously too. It took me multiple calls to get them to refund my money. I've been coming here for a couple of years now and it seems like service is going downhill. BEWARE!!!! I am sharing my experience so that other patients can make informed decisions. I was advised by this office that my insurance would not cover a cracked crown that had fallen off and was asked to pay $1,200 upfront. I was told that if insurance later paid (which I was advised could take up to 180 days), I would be reimbursed. I was also informed that if I did not pay upfront, the balance could be sent to collections before insurance issued their payment if at all and once they decided it would be past due. The explanation provided to me was that insurance would not cover the crown because the underlying tooth structure was intact. Wanting to confirm, I contacted my insurance company directly. I was informed that the procedure was in fact covered and the office could call for a pre-authorization. I informed them of this later the same day and was met with a snippy attitude that pre-authorizations take 60 days. Yet another threat like or fear tactic because my crown was not currently on my tooth. I called the office again on the Monday to ask if pre -authorization had been initiated and they did not call me back. I called my insurance company again who told me it was pre-approved and does not take 60 days had already been pre-authorized. My actual out-of-pocket responsibility was $447 -- significantly less than what I had been told. I was also told they were not able to put the original crown back on and yet found another dentist who did just that for $200! After this, I was unable to get further clarification from the office and they will not return my calls! I encourage other patients to: * Contact their insurance provider directly to verify coverage * Request written pre-authorization before paying large upfront amounts * Review their Explanation of Benefits carefully Clear communication between providers and patients is essential, and verifying coverage independently can help avoid confusion. read more

I was the only person in the waiting area still had to wait 30 minutes after my appointment time. It was supposed to be a cleaning but they started with x rays and check up process I said told them I only wanted a cleaning and they said no they needed the whole thing. After waiting 30 minutes and talking off work they couldn't do the basic thing I asked for. Just a cleaning. They have ZERO respect for their patients time. read more

I was recently in Phoenix on vacation when I lost a veneer off of a front tooth. I looked like a hillbilly without that veneer, so I started searching for a dentist office to put it back on. I called marketplace Smiles and they were extremely pleasant and said they could work me in as soon as I could get there. They then took all of my insurance information and when I walked in the door, they greeted me and had me with a dentist in about 10 minutes. They put the veneer back on and only charged me $55 even though they had to take an x-ray of the tooth. The most impressive thing was that I was not a regular customer, nor was I ever going to be. I live in Austin and was just out there on vacation for a few days. Still, they treated me as if I was the most important patient to walk in the door and as if they were trying to secure me as a patient for the rest of my life. They didn't have to do any of that, but they did it all. I had been going here for a couple years and they told me I have periodontal disease and needed these VERY expensive "deep cleanings" and follow up cleanings every 3 months that were not covered by insurance and also expensive. I finally had enough and returned to my family dentist who told me my gums were completely fine. This place is scamming people with unnecessary procedures. I wish I read some of these reviews before wasting literally thousands of dollars there. They would also schedule me for 5pm appointments and then multiple times when I showed up told me that the dentist had already left for the day so I couldn't see a dentist just the hygienist. read more

I had an appointment today and let me just say... the place is quite different than it was 2 years ago. There is a male who works in "billing" who has pretty terrible customer service skills and sadly he sits right at the front when patients walk in. When I called about an EOB for my husband last week that said estimated payment due for cleaning $400... he said he literally could not help me or look into anything until they receive the EOB from insurance "which could take up to 60 days." So I called insurance myself who explained the office billed for the same code 3 different times which is why it shows a patient balance of $400. My insurance called the dental office and they got a female on the phone at the office who looked up the records and quickly explained that there was an error and to assure the patient that there will be a $0 balance for the exam and cleaning. Perfect! Why the first guy couldn't have done exactly what this female did ... is beyond me and it wasted my time because he is bad at his job. Or lazy. So when I went into the office today for an exam and cleaning, I immediately noticed the office wasn't kept as clean and nice as before, it looks run down. I also quickly noticed that staff were wearing some pretty lazy attire. Previously, all of the staff looked so professional in scrubs and wore a smile and welcomed me in. It's just a different look now and I would not say that it's an upgrade. They have their hygienists booked out several months so the dentist has to do your teeth cleaning "if they have time". The "if they have time" model (via phone and in person) is not a good model. It makes patients anxious and worried that they might have to schedule yet ANOTHER appointment to get their teeth cleaned. Once again, bad customer service technique. Luckily, the dentist did clean my teeth today, and he's a nice guy, but I'm not so sure if I wasn't an "easy" patient, that I would have gotten my teeth cleaned today. Lastly, their female tech who did the X-rays and helped the doc with cleaning, she was nice but seemed inexperienced. I was okay with that because everyone needs to learn, but in lieu of all the other aspects of the office, it was just another part of the bad look. I mentioned to the front office staff (including the male billing employee) that the office used to be ran much better 2 years ago (nicely). He blamed COVID taking hygienists off the market. I explained to him that there are plenty of businesses running very well despite the COVID challenges. His response was a lazy cop-out. I will not go back to this office because of the things noted above. I used to routinely go to this office and my husband too. When I say it was the best dental office I've ever been to... truly. The staff were amazing, the timeliness was off the charts. It was so impressive that the moment I got dental insurance again, I stopped going to dental offices with "first time patient discounts" and wanted to immediately come back here. The oldest dental work in my mouth is older that some of the yelpers here and was done in the 80s and is still in good condition. The newest dental work in my mouth was done here less than 7 years back and needs to be re-done. Two years back the dentist I had that's in the same dental group saw trouble with the work done and sent me back to this office to show the Dentist the condition of the work he did......He said maybe you grind your teeth in your sleep..........I said I don't think I do.........then he said to me YUP your going to need that re-done sometime and didn't take any responsibility for his work. I had no trouble with anyone in the office. I don't recall having any problems with the billing. The dentist actually seemed caring and kind and I never imagined that the work he did would fall apart so soon. read more

I came back to them after living elsewhere for a few years. I came in for my bi-annual cleaning and they did the x-rays but when it was time for the cleaning suggested a specialized cleaning that would mean additional costs outside of what my insurance covered. Feeling pressured at the time, I scheduled another time and date to come back for the special cleaning. I had no idea they were going to send me home without a cleaning at all. Due to budget, I declined the "up-sell" and asked to be scheduled for the regular cleaning that I never got and they refused. The receptionist told me I "should do what the doctor says"..... as a patient we have a choice about our own care.... That was the wrong thing to say! I will make up own mind regardless of what the doctor diagnosed. Long story short they refused to provide a simple regular cleaning that was covered under my insurance. Wow...I should have read the reviews before going to this place. I went there over a year ago when I was living in the area. Since I didn't know the area well, I came here because it was close. I walked out paying over $500 for teeth cleaning and a cavity fill. ONE cavity!! I have pretty good dental insurance too mind you. Not to mention, I waited over 3 hours in the dental chair, while the dentist kept tending to other patience. Seemed like they overbooked that day or something. The dentist (I don't even remember his name now) just seemed like a total car salesman. He told me that since my cavity was in an odd place, they had to use inlays instead of a regular cavity fill. Which, I asked my dentist later on, was a total lie. Obviously they just wanted to sell you their newest technology and make you pay an arm and leg for it. On top of that, he tried to convince me to come back to get my old fillings redone. Yeah right! At that price, my fillings better be platinum!! Fool me once, shame on you...fool me twice... As for the teeth cleaning, it was a half ass job done by some kid who had no clue what he was doing. Someone else below mentioned that the office staff is extremely unprofessional and full of arrogance. I couldn't agree with that more. A friend had an appointment last week for a cleaning. The people in the office spent so much time taking x-rays and talking about an expensive procedure (not a critical issue), that there was no time left to perform the routine cleaning. This person was sent for an CT at a place that did not accept any discount payment plans or insurance (was pretty expensive). CT results were hand delivered to Marketplace Smiles by patient. Yesterday, the patient had another appointment to get the cleaning (that wasn't done last week). Friend sat in waiting room for 30 minutes (as other customers walked in and were taken in for their appointments). Friend went to desk to inquire as to the wait time. They were brought to the back, where they waited another 20 minutes. No one showed up. My friend walked out. A few minutes later we went back to the office to claim the CT results (disc and report). This dentist not only has lost a customer, but also lost the revenue of a cleaning and a very expensive procedure. This office has a sign on the desk that states if a customer is 10 minutes late for an appointment, they will have to reschedule. So obviously THEIR time is more valuable than their customer's time? read more

I haven't been to market place smiles for a couple years due to a poor experience in the past. After seeing a change in staff and decided to go back and try them again and I'm happy I did. Anthony took my X-rays and was very friendly and answered all my questions. Dr. Le made me feel comfortable during the entire exam and once we were done she took the time to explain to me exactly what I needed. Ricardo was my hygienist and he did a fantastic job with my cleaning. He also suggested using laser on my gums which has really made a difference. Thank you! read more

This office always always always overcharges above insurance patient responsibility. Please, be aware of it and always look at your EOB. If you don't look at it and don't tell them, they will keep it as so called credit without making you aware that you have that aforementioned credit. Even when you come for another treatment, they won't tell you that you have a credit. This is intentional and they are obviously told to do that. Ask for your credits back right away instead of keeping them at the office. Very unethical practice and should be reported with BBB and board of dentistry, which I'm planning on doing. Also, do not use orthodontist at this office. He's there only twice a month and spends very little time with you, doesn't answer any questions and services 2-3 patients at a time. Why do we make appointments if I have to share my time with someone else in the same room with a stinky divider? All the work is done by assistants whose skills are questionable to say the least. I literally had to tell him (Dr. Croft) to come back and fix the attachments for Invisalign. He quickly had put them and wanted to walk away; I said they were hurting my lips. He came back and shaved them; then before I could check, he walked away again. I told him to please come back and fix it, he annoyingly did it again. I don't know what the hell is wrong with him. All other specialists are there once a month only. It's much better to find your own specialist than use this so-called plain dangerous "convenience" (as they call it). read more

I came in for cleaning an check up. At the end of it they told me a needed a deep cleaning that would cost an additional $500 after my insurance, along with a bunch of other things. After I declined the lady seemed angry at me and insisted. I told them I am not paying $500 for a cleaning and I'd rather get a second opinion. She told me that I would eventually get gum disease and my teeth would fall out. To me this seem like a scare tactic, since I always had healthy perfect teeth. Got that second opinion and indeed I did not need a deep cleaning. Should have listened to the reviews. Very upsetting that they use these sales tactics to up sell. read more

I honestly don't know why there are so many bad reviews. I've been going here since Dr. Gebhart was working here. To be honest I know for a fact that Dr. Gebhart charged me for dental work I didn't need. But Dr. Boyd has taken over the practice and he is absolutely amazing! Not only is he extremely sweet and caring, but he tries to save you money whenever possible and does phenomenal work! Every time he puts that big needle in for Novocain I don't feel it at all. He is fast and does high quality work. It also doesn't hurt that he is soooo damn handsome! Lol The staff has always been very pleasant and are always willing to work with me regarding monthly payments. I would highly recommend Dr. Boyd and his team. read more

I have used the smiles network of dentists for over a decade between Tatum Smiles (now closed), and Marketplace Smiles. I was happy to see Dr. Spine transferred to Marketplace Smiles as I started going to Marketplace a few years ago because I moved. This weekend I had a medical emergency and made an appointment for Monday to be seen. I called ahead of time to confirm the appointment and took time off work. I advised them over the phone that my new employer has the same insurance as my old employer and they had no further questions for me. When I arrived for my appointment the woman at the front desk gave my wife, who happens to be asian, a dirty look and changed her attitude toward us. She then continued to speak in a rude tone and raised her voice, advising I could only be seen for my appointment if I paid in full up front. I explained I had insurance and showed her my laptop to confirm it was the same Aetna dmo. I explained that I wasn't expecting to use the dental insurance so soon but since this was a medical emergency I couldn't wait. I also got my hr rep on the phone to confirm and the woman at the front desk asked if I would still like to be seen today in a rude tone. I explained I have spent thousands of dollars the past year at their office and she said due to company policy the only way I can be seen is if I pay in full out of pocket. The woman at the front desk continued to be rude while talking to me, continuing to stare at my wife in an uncomfortable way, while the woman in the back laughed. I left the office advising I will find a new dentist and would be leaving a review. Now I'm stuck looking for a new dentist on unplanned pto hoping I can find an appointment somewhere else before the day ends. This office does not care about the pain I'm in and the staff was rude and laughed at me as I left. I wish I never gave them a dime of my hard earned money just to be humiliated in front of other customers. Very disappointed. Will never walk into another smiles dental office again in my life and will advise everyone I know not to as well. read more

I never write reviews, but this place is so bad I want to warn others. First of all the 3 front desk people (2 female, one male) are rude, condescending and confrontational. They "scold" you openly if information you're giving them isn't to their liking. I've never been treated so poorly by front desk staff. Next, one of the hygienist (female) is rude and makes you feel bad if you are jumpy and not enjoying her treatment. She also told my child they had gingivitis and was trying to coerce them into a $300. laser treatment not covered by insurance. She would not do a regular cleaning and made my child sign that they refused treatment. They seem to want to upsell pricey treatments for their benefit. My family have now switched dental offices and lo and behold my child does NOT have gingivitis and their teeth look great. The new office told us that the x-rays they received from Marketplace were such bad quality they had to take their own. The only thing not wrong with this place is the 2 males dentist who were nice. My advice, DON'T go there! read more
