The crust is golden and thick to hold all of the sauce and goodness. They are very generous with their toppings, which I love. The butter crust is the best part. It was perfectly cooked and crunchy. The service was okay. I think I got unlucky and didn't have the best server. I had to wait a while for my server to even come to take my order. When she came, she never acknowledge the wait. She simply said "Hi, what can I get you?" Meanwhile, the table next to me, who came after me, had a friendly server who came right away before my server and asked them how they were doing, etc. I will say, the restaurant's manager, came around halfway through our meal to check on us as well as other tables, so that was nice that he did that. I've only had thin crust from one place in Chicago, and I wasn't a fan. This one also didn't meet my expectations. The crust was very dense, while I prefer a light and airy crisp crust. The edges looked like it was baked in a shallow pan instead of on a sheet or a rack. The crust also had an orange hue to it, which must have come from the semolina flour they use in their dough. The sausage and pepperoni were average in flavor, likely from a large meat distributor, and the same applies to the cheese. The sauce, however, tasted fresh. It had a sweet tomato flavor, and was the star of my pizza. My server did a solid job. I'm assuming he had a few patio tables, because I didn't see him much in the nearly empty dining room. My table was really sticky, so they can do better with cleaning tables. It was a Sunday around 7:00, so maybe they have a lighter staff at that time. My pizza took 35 minutes to arrive, but there was a group of 10 people near me, so maybe not enough kitchen staff or oven space available to get a 10 inch pizza out in under 20 minutes, or maybe the thicker "thin crust" takes longer to bake. I'm still hoping to find a Chicago-style thin crust from a Chicago pizzeria that lives up to the hype that Chicagoans give it.

Founder Carlo Pedone utilized his grandmother's recipes that she brought from Sicily. 2021 saw the restaurant close, but after a brief hiatus, it was revived by new owner Frank Carini in 2023. Carini still uses all of Carlo's original recipes. My experiences with the restaurant go all the way back to high school as my parents are fans of TDC's pizza. I'm going to get it right out there, I am not. Not as a teen, nor on second chances as an adult, which is why I'm reviewing their gourmet lasagna instead. Carlo's recipe fills the lasagna with ricotta cheese and tops it with a beef meat sauce. All of this is also smothered in mozzarella cheese. Two observations (not necessarily complaints), the first is that the lasagna was not as "tall" or stacked as what I typically experience, being flatter instead. Second, I thought it was interesting that a large amount of the toppings were not actually on the lasagna but instead trailed it. I know this does not sound appetizing, but it reminded me of a snail and its trail of mucus (with the lasagna representing the snail and the trail of cheese/toppings being the mucus). Anyways, before you scold me for that unappetizing simile, the gourmet lasagna at TDC was tasty and is Doughboy approved . Only I would order a dessert drink to kick off the meal I had there with my family, but let's be real, it's better than an appetizer. TDC's version of a chocolate martini is made with Five Farms Irish Cream, Chocolate Liqueur, and vodka. There was also obviously a little chocolate sauce, which the menu description omitted (along with the brand of vodka). You could taste the alcohol, but I wouldn't say it was overly boozy. It was just about right for a martini (which is still a lot for a lightweight like me). With a sweet tooth like mine, it still beats any standard martini, even if it's not the best chocolate martini I've ever experienced. Shaken or stirred, this dessert martini is Doughboy approved . Additionally, I included pictures of the fried Mozzarella Sticks and Ricotta-cheese filled ravioli we had for appetizers. The Mozzarella sticks were crispy on the outside and stuffed with melty cheese on the inside (you should have seen the cheese pull, and I wasn't even trying), doughboy approved . The ravioli was just okay . For dessert, I did try a little of my dinning companions' massive chocolate cake slice. There's a creamy chocolate buttercream on top of the slice along with alternating layers throughout the slice. The cake itself was rich and moist, while the frosting was chocolatey and sweet. Chocolate shavings also decorate the top of the slice, which in addition to the visual appeal, add a pleasant crunch that contrasts nicely with the soft and creamy cake.
