It was ok. Just ok. The moment you walk in you get bombarded by an overpowering dusty smell to the place. The decor is straight out of the 1950's which isnt necessarily a bad thing except that it seems that was the last time they dusted or cleaned or did anything to the place. Had a combo platter with Weiner Schnitzel, German Pork Chop and Sausage. The weiner Snitzel was tender and had good flavor. The Schnitzel and the spaetzel were the saving grace to this place. The pork chop was non descript and the applesauce that was served with it, you can just tell it was out of a can. The sausage was very salty as was the saurkraut that was served with it. My friend, who had a sausage combo for her entree, thought the saurkraut was good. Service was barely there. The place is billed as a supper club, so i expected for appetizer, entree, desert to come out at a nice easy pace but everything basically came out all at once. Had a better supper club experience at the Hob Nob in Kenosha. Had better German food at the Old Bavarian in Appleton. read more

I had the pleasure of checking out the food at Mark's east side , this weekend. First of all it's a huge place and has enough welcoming and smiling staff. Now the food , we ordered soup the chicken egg drop and spinach artichoke dip. The dip was finger licking good and fresh and tasted wonderful . In the main course I ordered Parmesan chicken . Stuffed beef form the in house specialities and walleye pan coated. Out of all these dishes stuffed angus beef was out this world , have never eaten something as crazy good tasting than this , the meat was tender and flavorful with every single bite. Chicken Parmesan was great and would highly recommend that as well. Walleye was good and very nicely prepared. I loved their Moscow mules and old sour old fashioned .highly highly recommend this place for food lovers. read more

I tried several things on the menu and overall very happy with my choices. For appetizer I had the sausage smaller platter, sauerkraut balls (free sample from yelp checking in) and French onion soup. The sausage platter came with crispy thin baguette, caramelized onion and mustard dipping sauce. The crispy baguette added great texture while onions offers sweetness balanced with mild mustard spice and tartness. Sauerkraut balls were fried and served with a cream dipping sauce. The kraut balls were golden, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Very good. I'm a huge fan of french onion soup. This place had one of the best French onion soups I've had. The broth was rich and well balanced acidity, cheese melted perfectly on top. Immensely satisfying. For entree I had jaegersnitzel from the old-country menu selection. The dish perfectly depicted the rustic characteristics of country. The pork was thinly breaded and fried, the meat was still moist and not dry; the mushroom gravy had rich red wine tones infused with thyme. Potatoes dumplings were very soft and moist on the inside. Sauerkraut with hints of caraway and the apples balanced out the dish, sweet, savory and tart. The only area of opportunity I see would be the decor of the restaurant - could use an update. Otherwise great good with good service. I would return again. read more

Italian chicken soup was loaded with fresh veggies and sausage, well seasoned it could have been my main course. The sauerbraten is incredible! Better than I've had in years, including in Germany. It's truly authentic. Rest of our party had different schnitzels. They were great, crisp outside, tender and moist inside and small portions were still large. The spaetzel is homemade, so perfectly done. The decor is really nice since it's been fully remodeled, the bathrooms are lovely and large. Our server was excellent with proper attention without unnecessary intrusion. I hate when they interrupt the table conversation. She was excellent!!! I wish I lived closer, our German spot in San Diego is no where near this quality. We hope to return! read more

Sorry but still not happy with this place. Don't know why I keep going back. Maybe I will appreciate it more when I am 80 years old and my taste buds have gone. LOL. I am beginning to wonder about my friends who say they love this place. Maybe they are the ones who have risen my expectations, only to have them shot down again. The ladies at the bar are great. On top of things and personable. My drink was not so nice. It was so watered down. Too much ice. Didn't have the heart to ask them to remake it. Sauerkraut balls, yum of course. Had the pretzel crusted chicken. Just ok. Chicken was tender (+), green beans were very tasteless (-), and the wild rice was over cooked and mushy (-). We wanted to have Friday night fish fry while visiting Appleton over Thanksgiving weekend. Mark's was recommended by relatives who live in the area. The food certainly lived up to the recommendation! We had fun with the starters - who ever heard of sauerkraut balls??? The fish was excellent and unlimited, fries ordinary, but the pumpkin bread pudding topped it! We exited very happy and very full. Yelp has yet to lead me astray when in a new city, and this restaurant is no different. While most of the table had the excellent German food and enjoyed it, I had the scrumptious stuffed chicken breast. It was an excellent melding of flavors and made an excellent meal. The fresh dense bread was the perfect complement to the tasty soup and sauces. To finish we had very fine desserts, including what has to be one of the best chocolate cakes ever baked. read more

This was a first visit for my husband and I and it will not be our last! Mark's was a happy google search find after a long day out of town for appointments (we are from a town about 2 hours away) We were instantly impressed with the warm, inviting decor and the friendly service. After being seating, bartender Connor was prompt to get us a drink and menus. We had the Ahi Tuna appetizer and it was not only delicious, but also was a good portion for the price. My husband had a salad, which upon delivery I described it as "sexy" and I opted for one of the special "luncheons". Both meals were priced appropriately and tasted amazing. For $50, we enjoyed Bloody Mary's, wine, an appetizer, and two entrees. We were even gifted a $10 coupon for our next visit in the form of a thank you card for being first time visitors. So I have lived here over 3/4s of my life. I have always loved a fish fry and have tried dozens of Friday night fish fry's and have heard a lot about this place but never tried it. After trying twice because the wait was over an hour, I finally stuck it out and waited! The bar area was decorated cute it was packed which isn't unusual. Once we got into the dining area it felt very out dated and just a big room. There were tables open so not sure why there was an hour wait. I got perch like I always do and My Mom got the all you can eat fish fry. All I can say is the perch was nothing special. I have had much better perch at other places. With all the choices the Fox Valley has to offer there are many better places to go versus taking the time to try this one. The Outpost, Camelot and The Black Otter to just name a few :). One of my favorite supper clubs in the fox valley! Great environment and great service every time! I would recommend making reservations ahead of time and coming slightly early to enjoy a drink in the lounge/bar area. I have had their steak (ribeye, tenderloin, and sirloin) a few times and have been happy each time! When I once ordered their duck, I thought it was enjoyable as well. The only thing I wouldn't recommend is the crab cakes... A little too much mayo and not enough crab and cake. read more

We stopped for dinner and were treated to some good entries. My son had a steak the size of a roast, done to perfection, very good. Grandson had a steak burger, very good, with excellent fries ( he left nothing for grandpa). I had the cranberry chicken over rice and roasted veggies. Again, very good. This place is a classic/relic. Just good eatin' here. Me and a buddy stopped in for lunch. They got a classic old-time salad bar (don't forget their famous hot bacon dressing!). Everything was fresh. We banged out an order of cheese curds - 2 thumbs up - and I had to get some not-on-the-soup-and-salad-bar goulash. It was good but nothing to brag about (not that they were bragging). The chicken cordon bleu was good but the ham was just blanketed on top of a chicken breast with cheese melted on top, in lieu of the chicken being hammered out and the ham/cheese rolled up inside. Burger was cooked to temp, juicy and pretty much on point. Give it a go if you're hungry and rolling on by. read more

Went there because of the yelp restaurant review. The food was AMAZING!!!! The porter stout that the owner made was really good. Our waitress named Lisa was super attentive and her suggestions were great. The bacon dressing was the BOMB. Kelly suggested that we put it over the potatoes It was amazing as a topping for a baked potato which no one else had thought to do. The owner is a really nice person who checked on us several times. The Friday Fish Fry is fantastic! I ordered the regular perch and it was exactly how it should be; lightly breaded, crisp on the outside and sweet and flakey. We decided to take a chance on the special "Wolf Fish". The description was a meaty and firm white fish sweeter than cod firmer than haddock on a bed of creamy risotto with a fresh veg medley. This was not what we were served. Not only did we receive something similar to monk fish (fatty) and small portion for $20, but the risotto was greasy and way overdone. The star was the vegetables, except they covered most of the plate. Something definitely went wrong with this "special". We look forward to returning again with the generous 1st Time gift ($10 gift certificate). Our service was fantastic! Taylor was friendly and very attentive. The free sample of the sauerkraut balls with horseradish sauce was thoughtful and delicious. We definitely enjoyed the unique fare; Hacker-Pschore, Scottish egg & sauerkraut balls were all well worth it! We look forward to updating this review on our next visit. Wow. What great food and service. I travel quite a bit and am always looking for a "go to" place when in town. I found it! I typically do not even write reviews on anything or take the time but these folks deserved it. They have the "get to go to work" attitude versus "have to". We ordered sauerkraut balls and some sausage platter for apps. Outstanding. Had the filet and twice baked potato. Colleague had the Wiener Schnitzel with some bacon onion gravy. Everything was great and I will be returning. Above all, the service provided by Stacy and Jessica was the best. When we got there it took 15 minutes to get a bar tender to put us down for a reservation because they were so understaffed. After another hour we were finally seated. Waitress was short with us and in a hurry. They could have seated us almost right away because the dinning room was 2/3 empty instead of standing near a wall for an hour. I had the Prime rib and it was below average whatever they put on the outside when they roast it is slimy and not very appetizing. I was in Appleton for the first time and I need to have some dinner and a libation so I hit up Yelp and Mark's came up. I walked in and sat at the bar to have a local beer and order some food. The bartenders were friendly and asked my name. She even turned the game I wanted to watch on the TV. I ordered the "World Famous" sauerkraut balls to start and they were pretty good. My friendly waitress took my order of French Onion Soup (delicious) and even suggested I only get the half order of Schnitzel a la Holstein (one of my favs) and it was some good advice as I couldn't have possibly eaten another cutlet. The red cabbage and spoetzel was also great. I didn't even have room for bread or dessert. I had two beers, one a local bock and one was Mark's personal stout recipe brewed by local brewery Stone Arch. It was very good. I'd highly recommend a stop here to try the German specialities or hand cut steaks. read more

Really disappointing experience. They seated our table of 7 then must've not assigned a server. After waiting 15 min went and asked for a server. She kept forgetting drinks and sides. Soup, salad, and (especially) bread was fine. They were out of the special at 6:00 pm. Took forever to get our food, and the last two plates came nearly 10 minutes after the first five. All food had obviously sat for a while. Spaetzel was cold, dry and hard, not to mention tasteless. The manager came to apologize for the delay, but just said "sorry" and then weirdly hovered over my shoulder. Server never asked if everything was ok. When paying the bill I gave an honest answer (poor) when asked how dinner was. No offer to make things right. Probably a bad night, but server and manager didn't seem to care, food was really bad, and service was odd. Won't go back, and I can't recommend it. read more

We like to go to Mark's East Side because they have a good selection on their menu. My husband will always order the German food and I prefer their salads and seafood. Our favorite appetizers are the Bavarian Scotch egg which is a hard boiled egg, wrapped in sausage, battered and deep fried. Very good! Their sausage sampler is also very tasty. On our latest visit we had Mark come to the table and tell us about his special beer he is brewing. It is a dark porter with a strong start and a sweet end taste. I usually like a lighter beer but I thought it was very good. Worth trying. But they also have Stella on tap which is one of my favorites. I ordered the Strawberry Fields Forever Salad which comes with a grilled chicken breast on top. Of course it is full of strawberries, feta cheese, candies nuts and red onion. Plenty for a complete meal. My husband ordered the Schnitzel A la Holstein which was a breaded veal cutlet topped with fried eggs, capers, and hollandaise sauce. It was served with potato dumplings. He said the veal was very tender and the dumplings were perfect. Mark also does a terrific job with fresh seafood. He has daily specials with a variety of fish. The wait staff is attentive and the prices are fair. It does get very busy on Friday evenings so we do try to visit during the week. We like to eat in the bar area rather than the dining room. We are just more comfortable there. read more
