American food restaurants are at an immediate disadvantage in that American food can sometimes be boring. Sure, it borrows from Italy and whichever country first started frying everything, but it also borrows liberally from England, and four out of five hungry people agree that is a bad thing. This doesn't mean that, for an American food joint to compete, they need to serve their curly fries with a soy-plum demi-glace. Just keep it simple and tasty -- maybe you can add capers to the tuna salad if you're feeling punchy -- and everyone's happy. Marlintini's was pretty mediocre all around for my last visit. Its menu is pretty bland. The chicken was Gobi-dry. The service was sans smile -- though in Marlintini's defense I understand this to be the exception more than the rule. I'm not much of a seafood guy but my family gave some of the dishes a thumbs-up, so...if you're swayed by third-hand anectodes, give this place a try. read more

We eat at Marlintini's at least once every time we're in the area. I can speak to three things on the menu - the fried shrimp, the haddock and the turkey club. Let me start with the club. Hands down the best turkey club I've ever eaten, and there have been many. It likely has something to do with the fact that they cook the turkey then carve the meat off it. None of that generic, flavorless turkey deli meat here. Deelish and I haven't had a dry one yet. Someone in the kitchen definitely knows what they are doing. The shrimp and haddock: seafood is never a bad idea when you're on the coast. I love the haddock nuggets (just a haddock filet they've cut up to make it easier for dipping) and shrimp. Both are fried (I know, but I can't help myself) moist and full of flavor. The tarter sauce is homemade too. If you're in the mood for fried seafood, you can't go wrong with either of these. I should also mention that the out-of-towners I've taken here are big fans of the shrimp and haddock too. NOTE: If you're in the mood for a lobster role, head up the road to the Fish Net. The lobster roll eaters in my family swear it's the best one in all of Maine. read more

We were looking for something different and one of the employees at Dunkin Donuts suggested Martini's. I am glad I asked, because it was really good for a quick meal. Haddock was amazing. The best in the area! My husband ordered the Haddock bites for an appetizer and I tried them and was blown away! I had the blackened haddock Reuben which was very tasty! We actually ordered more bites to take home with us they were so good. Very casual, bar atmosphere! No Lobster on the menu, which is a change from all the other places in the area! Nice local bar and restaurant. Casual atmosphere with polished wood tables and pInted and wood paneled walls. Big bar and big separate dining room. Staff is friendly and helpful . Manager Edward went out of his way to tune a TV ( there are 5 in the bar area) to a sporting event we wated to watch and turned up the sound so we could hear. Food was burgers sandwiches and wraps and lots of fried seafood. All you can eat shrimp are tiny fried Maine popcorn shrimp. Fried haddock is a good sized thick portion perfectly cooked. I reccomend it. Burger was properly medium rare and tasty. Comes with chips but you can get fries or onion rings for a slight up charge. A Greek salad with a haddock filet was totally satisfying. Good selection of beers on tap and a full bar. There is a movie theater popcorn machine in the bar which is nice when you watch a game. Over all a very pleasent place filled with locals not tourists that made us happy. read more

Local flare. Bar food, tasty, plenty of room, great big bar. The people who frequent this place are definitely locals for the most part. It's a nice bar and grill to take your family. I had fish and chips, which were great but that thing happens that sometimes happens when other people you're eating with get what you wish you had gotten after the fact. Not one but TWO people got the blue cheese bacon burger that looked REALLY good. So. If I go back I'll probably get a burger. Oh also they have a huge menu so it would basically be impossible not to find something to eat. read more

Ate here twice on my trip to Maine, and unfortunately wasn't satisfied either time. The first time, my chicken was very dry and lacking flavor. The second time, we did take out, and I got a grilled cheese. They placed the pickle of my takeout order right under my sandwich, causing the bread to be soggy and gross. I like the atmosphere and comfort of this local pub/restaurant/sports bar. This is a great place for a quick bite in the bar with a local draft brew, or a more restaurant experience in the dining area. The service is excellent, friendly and knowledgeable, and this is a local mainstay. read more

We went here last night for a quick bite. Very nice, clean restaurant and bar. Very friendly staff and bartender and the food was good. we each had a bowl of Haddock Chowder, very good but pricey at $9.25 each bowl, especially since this fish is caught / harvested here locally. I would recommend to everyone and their menu looked good. read more

We have been here three times between two trips to the area and the food is always good and the service is great as well. It's exactly what you can expect for what they claim to be. What's not to like about a Caribbean themed restaurant in Blue Hill Maine? The fried haddock balls are excellent, perhaps the best fried haddock in Blue Hill. The crab and lobster rolls are so-so, I'd say go down the road to the Fish Net for a really good lobster roll. They have nightly specials, meatloaf Monday is my dad's favorite. Stopped in for late lunch. Service was terrible. There were 3 tables (2 waitstaff) and didn't get serves till late. Had to go to the bar for refills. Food mediocre. The burger was a slab of meatloaf and the haddock chowder ($10) was more like potato chowder with a few bits of fish thrown in. And had to listen to loud blaring rock with all other seating closed. We enjoyed the Flounder Chowder and the Toss Salad, and found it to be a filling lunch. Most of the pricing was a little high for what you got but it was okay. Our waitress was a little over worked taking care of the bar and the restaurant customers at the same time, but she did okay. I always love whatever I order at Marlintini's! I don't eat a lot of fried food but sometimes do here b/c when the menu says, lightly fried, they mean it! Their appetizer of haddock nuggets are, without question, the best I have ever had. The appetizer is actually entree size. Do yourself a favor and order it. If you are more a meat than seafood person, don't miss out on the bourbon steak tips or the steak & cheese quesadilla that somehow has a crispy quality to the entire quesadilla! I had lunch yesterday with my elderly aunt and uncle (90's). Only two other people in restaurant. My uncle politely asked hostess to turn down the music. She adjusted music slightly and proceeded to shout nastily to our party of 5. I expressed that she did not need to shout - she replied she had to because they were so old. Very rude and inhospitable (-10+) service. This place does not justify one star. Avoid this dump if you want to have a good experience. read more

One of only a small minority of its type on this peninsula, a full sized restaurant catering to locals and families year round, with a dining area and also a tavern room with a bar, and TV screens for sports, etc. Good sized portions of usually good to occasionally very good food, nothing pretentious at all. Tourists are welcome but should know it's apt to be noisy with locals greeting each other across the room, excited children, and even on occasion bar-rowdy. Not for those seeking an upscale, refined dining experience. But tourists who want to experience the area's local culture in its own element seek this restaurant out, along with a very few others. The seafood is as good as in the somewhat pricier area restaurants, and there's also tavern food, good beer including regional craft brew on tap, and large portion pasta dishes. Dress is casual, service is friendly but can be slow on a crowded weekend evening during tourist season, and the decor is as plain and unpretentious as this popular restaurant. read more
