In this case, TLC stands for Topanga Living Cafe and it is situated in the captivating Topanga mountains. Go down south on Topanga Blvd, pass 101 and you are driving in a different space. The two lane road one way, becomes one lane, with many windy turns. As you drive on, to a progressive higher altitude, the fresh air, the greenery, the view below, engulfs your senses. What a beautiful ride, till you arrive at TLC. I was there on a weekday (by design), to avoid the crowds and because parking is very limited, if you wish to be close to the establishment. Walking in, there is a small space of an ordering counter (with a display of some foods), some on the menu, some not. A few merch racks and some indoor tables. You can also sit outside, under umbrellas, for a more airy feel. Many come here for the tranquility, several of them with their laptops. While I was aware before arriving what the limited menu entailed, I was attracted, amongst other selections, by the optics of the Tomato Frittata and Cucumber Salad, in the food case. And that is what I ordered. Since the Frittata comes with a house salad, it was a reasonable $2 extra to substitute for the cucumber salad. The Tomato Frittata was warmed up and served to my outside table. It was fluffy, fresh, having distinct texture and tongue slide, to highlight the tastes of egg, cheese and tomato. Nice ingredient arrangement all around. Same for the cucumber salad. What I liked here was no overdose of citrus (as you so often taste in other places). A harmonious balance of simple nature ingredients, that take care of the flavor, and take you to a place to remember. The cucumber was well diced, colorful, bold, crunchy and nourishing, with every bite. Very cute cafe. We sat outside under a trestle and enjoyed a bit of sun and view. The food choices were gorgeous. Lemonade was fresh too! Nice staff. I had a tomato and cheese frittata, which was delicious and came with a side of salad. One friend had the steak sandwich. He raved about it so much that our other friend got one after he already had a chicken sandwich! It was a very lovely afternoon and I would definitely go back. Absolutely 10/10 - Big Brekky Plate (add Bacon): Scrambled eggs were perfectly whipped and fluffy. Bread was so tasty and toasted. Potatoes were nicely seasoned but we added Cholula for that kick. Avocado was green and fresh. Tomatoes were nicely cooked adding another layer of flavor. There was a fly on the food and we let the girl with curly hair in the front know about it and she just gave us a face of "I don't really care" and didn't remove the food. It was super uncomfortable to know there was a fly on the food and no one immediately removed the plate that was contaminated. Fresh handcrafted food, with beautiful composition in a unique atmosphere. My husband and I stopped in prior to the Topanga Days parade for a hot drink and breakfast burritos. I got the matcha latte and he got a cup of coffee. Both served in ACME vessels. We sat on the back patio, which was quiet and quaint. The food is not fast, so don't expect to be served quickly. It's slow, quality food and drinks. There is an artisan selection of gifts also. Live plants are used for decor, indoor and out, but could use a little TLC. Fair enough...sometimes someone is new and hasn't tried everything but at least know what they are. They then bring us the wrong food and when we asked the server he said "I don't know they just handed this to me and told me come to this table". THENNNNNN there was hair on our food. When I want to have a relaxing Sunday I oftentimes think, where can I go for a bit of peace away from the craziness of LA. This Sunday I decided to pop over to Topanga Canyon to enjoy a bit of me time. I first stopped by Cafe Mimosa, which was much smaller and packed with nowhere to sit. So I drove down the road a ways and came across Topanga Living Cafe. There was plenty of parking in front, which can be a bit difficult in this area. I loved the light and airy feeling of the space as soon as I entered. Even on this cloudy day the space felt warm. I was greeted with smiles from the baristas and appreciated the ample seating available. I ordered a large matcha latte and a chocolate croissant. Available milk choices were whole, oat and almond for those wondering what they have to offer. The latte was wonderful but the croissant felt a bit stale, sort of a bummer since it looked so good. Maybe it was fresh but I know croissant and this one felt like either a boxed croissant or one from the day before. Other than that, the experience was lovely. There were local goods for purchase along the back wall making this more than just a spot to stop when you want coffee. Another thing I loved was that the benches lining the seating area all had plugs behind them with both traditional and USB ports. I thought this was a really nice touch considering many people come to coffee shops to do work on their laptops or phones. I arrived around 10:45am on a Sunday and it was practically dead. But by 11:30am the place was packed and there was a line out the door. So just plan your trip here accordingly. ***Being cut off 15 minutes before posted closing, especially after waiting in line, feels dismissive and honestly unnecessary. *** Yesterday my husband and I visited this café, which has long been one of my favorite places in Topanga. Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing. The café was busy, with a long line of customers waiting to order. We were standing in line and waiting our turn, and the staff member was a taking orders with no rush of the couple in front of us. At exactly 2:45 pm -- despite the café being listed as open until 3:00 pm -- the staff member abruptly took all remaining food into the kitchen and refused to serve us or anyone else in line. This was not communicated in advance, nor was it handled with courtesy. Several guests waiting behind us were equally surprised and disappointed by the manner in which service was refused. Closing early is one thing; refusing service to customers already in line, without explanation and with visible rudeness, is another. It felt unwelcoming and not at all in line with the warmth and community spirit that has always made this café special. Sadly, this experience has changed how I feel about a place that used to be a favorite in the canyon. read more

Topanga Living Cafe has some really good food. We love love their coffee. It is an adorable place and you can dine inside or out. It also has a small shop with some cool things to buy. The service can be slow so that is a little bit of a bother, but not much. The staff is really nice. The place is very clean and ever so pretty. We love their sandwiches. We tried their home made falafel on warm pita stuffed with radishes, hummus, cucumber and peas. That was a big hit with our group. It was really good. The fried chicken sandwich on a great bun was my favorite. It has spice to it and was just very flavorful. The turkey club is on sourdough and really good. They use great turkey and you get the perfect amount. The steak sandwich was good, not great, but I loved the cheddar cheese on it. It was good. The tortillas for their tacos are made there and they are great. We had the carne asada and boy was it good. It comes with two. As I said the coffee is great, but so is their home made lemonade. Lovely place with both in an outdoor seating areas - both nice and pleasant, albeit a bit crammed and tight. Food was OK for the price. Salads were a bit small. They have a nice smoothies and many drinks that you don't find in regular restaurants. However, and some of them, unfortunately, the ones we bought , were not very good. It's a self service place; you order at the counter, and they bring the food to you. Other than that, it is pretty difficult to get any staff to pay attention to you, even when you need. We had a drink spill, and had to wipe everything ourselves, because everyone was so busy. You'll need good luck to find parking here - only a few spots in front of the store and pulling in and out of these spaces could be challenging with incoming traffic coming at high speed. read more

I wish I could move into this cafe! Peaceful warm interior and a fun outdoor patio with the prettiest teal floor. We were lucky enough to have a hipcamp site right across the street from here so we walked here two consecutive days for breakfast. Loved the ham and cheese croissants, cinnamon roll, and brekky tacos. Service was excellent - they were nice enough to fill up my Hydroflask with ice and we never felt rushed even when it was super busy. The coffees were decent - not out of this world but I got the caffeine boost I needed. There's parking available outside the cafe but I imagine it can be tough on a busy day, especially since highway 27 is a windy two lane road. Also, they sell specialty gifts that make for unique presents (so many brands that I haven't heard of!). Great place to snack, shop, and savor. read more

Went here for my birthday last weekend, and I enjoyed almost every single thing that I ate! The poppyseed muffin had good flavor, but it was a little on a dry side and the blueberry cornbread was not my favorite! It was kinda moist and just not my idea of a blueberry cornbread. I ordered the Brekky breakfast and it was delicious! My favorite part of my breakfast was the crispy fingerling potatoes. I should've just ordered an extra side of them because they were really really good. I had some thick bacon, Sourdough toast I ordered scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and everything was well seasoned not overly seasoned and I would definitely come here several times a week in the future lol I sat on the back patio and I love the green tile floors. Scrambled eggs side - was super impressed by the technique to make these fancy scrambled eggs. It was fluffy, soft, and almost whipped. Presentation was beautiful. Soba noodles - This was an impulse buy after seeing this in the display counter. It looked tasty so I sprung for it! The flavors were mainly a soy marinade and sesame seeds on top. Some acidity using vinegar would have been a nice addition. The noodles were thick and hefty, not much of a chew to them but I still found them pleasant to eat.
