Beautiful hotel in Tacoma. My husband and I were the karaoke dj/host for a convention. Everyone were super nice at this hotel except for the manager of the people who do cleanup. This short Latina came screaming at my husband wondering why we are set up in that room, and why we are still having loud music/karaoke past 10pm. My husband said he was just hired, he's not the person to talk to. So the person in charge of the convention went up to state that they have a contract that ends at midnight, and that when we will start breaking down our equipment. There's no reason to scream and yell, and not be cordial when your other co-workers who set us up in that room had over the top service. Overall, a very pleasant stay. The hotel was very clean and quiet, and the staff was consistently courteous and professional, which made check-in and the overall experience smooth and welcoming. Great spot if you want to frequent University of Washington - Tacoma, Tacoma Art Museum, Museum of Glass and Children's Museum The location is not exactly in the center of downtown Tacoma, so I'd recommend having a rental car or using ride share. Ride share costs ranged from about $15 for a 4-mile trip to around $40 for a 6-mile trip, depending on time and demand, so that's something to factor into your plans. The hotel has a for-purchase shop that's surprisingly well stocked with just about anything you might need snacks, drinks, and essentials. There's also an onsite restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner, with dinner starting at 5 PM, which is convenient if you don't feel like heading out. Overall, a clean, comfortable, and reliable option with great service just plan transportation ahead of time if you want to explore downtown or surrounding areas. read more

1. No coffee in the rooms! Come on its not that hard this is hotel 101. I am from the east coast and get up at 4am when my phone starts ringing. I had to LEAVE THE HOTEL just to get a cup of coffee as they were too cheap to put coffee makers in the room! Seriously. You can't make this $hit up. 2. You will find more bathroom amenities in a Motel 6. No lotion, no liquid handsoap, no conditioner. This is a tier 2 Marriott property! 3. One 2 sets of towels in the bathroom. Poor quality. 4. The menu at the hotel restaurant was pathetic. Only a few things to chose from. The server was so embarrassed that he gave me a rundown of the restaurants in the area and where I should go. I had noticed the price of rooms sliding on this hotel and I now know why. They must be having a hard time filling. I had booked here for two weeks for work. Right off the bat I knew I would love this place from the second I walked in. Very open and spacious lobby area with a restaurant/bar right as you enter. The menu looks decent and isn't as expensive as I thought it would be for Marriott. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with room service. Let's talk about the room for a second... it has that new hotel room smell ughhhhh just perfect. The city view is so beautiful and the room is very spacious. The bed is as comfortable as the Marriott Waterfront in Baltimore Maryland and let me tell you THAT bed was a 100/10 so this one is up there for sure. The A/C works great which is always a deal breaker for me with hotels. It's located downtown so there's everything near by. Just a perfect location and a nice stay. I recommend! read more

Marriott downtown Tacoma The staff at checkin were the greatest - friendly, personable, and full of cheer. They made me smile upon checking in and even talked a bit about relating to why we thought it was so cold in SEA vs being in Hawaii. Rooms were clean, parking a bit confusing - you can only park on floors 2,3 or 6 - they share the parking with the Courtyard Marriott across the street but be sure to park on the correct floor or you will get a ticket like we did. It was an interesting stay here at the Tacoma Marriott. The location is nice. We were given the perfect corner room on an upper floor. We had a great view of everything. We could see water, city, and even the mountain. The room was just what we wanted with a king bed and a sofa bed. The bathroom had a walk in shower with hand shower. This Marriott has gone corporate with "Thisworks" shampoo, conditioner and bodywash dispensers in the shower. The room was equipped with a good black out curtain that I loved, but my wife hated because it was so dark. On New Year's Eve, you could see fireworks exploding in the sky around the hotel. This hotel has an M Club Lounge for Platinum elite and above members, and for those who pay for M Club access. The M Club was open during our stay which included a weekend. The M Club was well stocked with soda, water and snacks during the evening hours. The evening appetizers seem to have gone corporate as it seems that all Marriotts are now serving egg rolls, and a samosa type of snack. A vegetable tray and a cheese and salami tray was also offered. Breakfast was normal Marriott breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit, breads, coffee and juices. It was nice that they had a single serve coffee and a single serve espresso machine. But, it was not good that the machines did not work on the weekends, and that this Marriott did not have anyone who could "fix" the machines on weekends when it needed cleaning or emptying. The hotel gym was nicely equipped with weights and machines. Everything was in good working condition. The pool is heated and is outdoors. Parking was plentiful until this Marriott decided to have a New Year's Eve party. It would've been nice for the hotel to notify us that parking would be sparse on New Year's Eve. Instead, we found out the hard way when we returned back to the hotel to find out that there were no more spaces left in the parking lot. We eventually parked on the almost full employee level after calling the front desk from the parking parking lot. They had partygoers everywhere. Some of them even tried riding up the elevators with us. The water was turned off on our floor on one of the nights of our stay. We accidently found out when someone had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. They did not turn the water back on until around 8 AM. When they turned the water back on, it was an ugly rusty brown color. They front desk told us over the phone to let the water run for about 30 minutes. An hour later, the rusty water was finally flushed from the system. If this was scheduled, it would've been nice for them to notify us and give us instructions. It could've been a 5 star hotel and stay for us. But, there were too many things that went wrong. I'll be generous and give them 3 stars. read more

Was shocked by all the bad reviews at this hotel. I travel and stay at hotels for work 2-3 times a month and this was one of the nicer Marriott that I have stayed at recently. Parking was easy to find, didn't have any issues there, parking garage is attached and finding the lobby was easy. Check in was smooth and staff was efficient and friendly. My room was beautiful and seemed pretty new. Shower had good pressure and got hot fast (which is a must). Bed was comfy and it was quiet. Hallway, lobby; every place I went to was extremely clean. I went down to the restaurant for breakfast every morning and the staff were so friendly and food was decent price and was delicious! Gym was great too! Stayed for a staycation, paid extra for the M Club room rate, definitely not at all worth the extra. Was really looking forward to the Hors d'oeuvres and honor bar, however they do not have them Friday or Saturday. Wasted $80+ booking this rate versus just a regular room. However, they did adjust our room rate to minus the $80. Disappointing bathroom, no walk-in shower just a tub shower combo. Breakfast at M Club was also disappointing. I stayed for 2 nights and it was very unpleasant. First, upon check in there were cars abandoned in their guest check in area making it impossible to pull in. This resulted in cars backing up onto the road. Second, once I managed to check in, I discivered that one has to use the keycard to get the elevator to work. But -- the scanner is on only one side while there are buttons on both sides. You have to maneuver around others to get to the scanner and then hold your keycard to the scanner while searching for the button for the floor. Then, there was no hot water for the shower. Lastly, my key card did not unlock my room door properly and I had to try several times. All this for $500?? Not worth it. read more

We had a nice stay over the University Puget Sound graduation weekend, but prices were higher than usual!! The pool is really nice, but be mindful that it is outdoors! I travel with a wetsuit, so I took a swim even though it was 50 degrees and raining! The hot tub is awesome. We needed to do a load of laundry this trip- bring your own quarters, $2.50 a load, plus dryer time. It took us 3 trips to score an open machine as there are only 2 washers for the whole place and they were frequently occupied. Bed was cozy. Duvet was very nice. Temperature was good. Noise wasn't a problem. We never received housekeeping over a 4-night stay, so that was a hassle but we were able to track down clean towels. read more

Abstract - one of the worst hotels I have stayed at in many many years. This room is booked with some sort of public health conference and I had to be here for another meeting. The only room available was a suite with "M Lounge" privileges. Ooh cool - free breakfast and awesome snacks throughout the day. WRONG. For those that don't know, the M Lounge is the new hip name for concierge lounge. Alas, the days of great service and nice perks are long gone. Two of the three nights, the "free hors d'ouevres" were nasty dry pot stickers and some sort of spring roll wrapped beef thing. The third night was nice, not so gross spring rolls and bacon wrapped "scallions". I opened the warmer and was greeted with a nasty sea smell, similar to the smell of, that's right sea scallops. I waited for the server to show up so she could go back to doing her homework and pointed out the error. The response was comical - "ooh, youre right - I guess I spelled them wrong". Never mind that we could kill someone with an allergy, let's get back to our homework. LEGIT - doing her homework... Breakfast? Potatoes, eggs, bacon - that's it. bagels - ONE. Yogurt - nope (at least not for 2 of the days). Coffee - filled with grounds. Espresso machine - BROKEN (not that I wanted any, but it's a poor look). Water machine - BROKEN. Restaurant - also crappy. Asked to be seated at the bar and was told I should order to-go and eat in the lobby. Cool, thanks. Asked for a table where I sat (with no menu) for 5 minutes before leaving. Moved to the bar, sat again. Finally, asked the bartender, how is this specialty drink? "Popular" - cool bro, awesome. Ordered a prime rib melt, response was literally "we're 86d". OK, I would be cool with the lingo at a dive bar, but at a place where they sell $12 beers and $17 hamburgers, I would expect something a little more sophisticated, how about "I am sorry - we are sold out" At this point, I give up - this place sucks. I would have talked to the manager, but she was walking around with food all over her shirt, which did not instill a lot of confidence. Enough about the bush league food and beverage, let's talk about the hotel. DIRTY. Every morning, the place looks like a fraternity house with food all over the floors in hallways, sticky crap on the floor in the elevator. And it's ot an overnight thing - it's a lack of attention to detail. The same two gummy bears sat on the floor by the elevator for my entire three day stay. I am sure you are thinking, "Oh, but those are public areas, what ?are they supposed to watch them all day". Let's talk about my room - DEAD cockroach on the floor. That's the kind of thing I would expect at a Motel 6, not a high-end property at the price I paid. Furniture - dusty and gross. I tried to tell a manager about my experience, but they were always out. I guess if you only work three days a week, your operation will suck.I hope someone at Marriott reads this - I stay at a lot of Marriott properties and the nastiness of this property shakes my faith in the brand. I tried to tell the guy at the front desk, Gustavo, but his specialty appears to be condescension, not even a patronizing "I'm sorry." So, yeah, there seems to be a culture of arrogance over their mediocrity. This attitude was consistent with other employees, which means the fish is rotten at the head. Finally, as a Gold or higher Bonvoy member, I can ask for late checkout. Initially, I was told it was not available because they "sold out". But, when I argued and pointed out that I was able to get on the website and book the same room, they relented. read more

Cups in the Room are plastic and are not replenished chair in the room is broken and sinks when you sit in it. Wi-Fi network unstable. TV in workout room not working. Garbage in stationary bike cup holders. No water in the work-out room Manager refused to meet when requested to share this with them. There are better options for the money they charge! read more

So far my bed is like a bunk bed from 1972. They said it was a king but it's no bigger than a queen. Bathroom is good except for the sink, the water comes out as a dribble. It's ridiculous. At least the shower works well. The front desk staff is friendly and they make your stay enjoyable. Everything was great except for my bed. The TV was limited in the channels that you get but only stayed for two nights and three days so it wasn't so bad. read more

I think Marriott has definitely stepped up their customer service since some of the more-negative reviews, because both front desk and restaurant staff were stellar. Great information about amenities, parking, etc. when I checked in and also the next morning when I realized I hadn't packed all my my toiletries, and insanely-fast, friendly, attentive service for breakfast. Aesthetically, room was nice, with a chaise. A tub/shower combo would have been a plus. However, the bed quality in my room paralleled that expressed in other reviews. Felt like 100-count sheets, and more importantly, the mattress was incredibly uncomfortable. I don't recall the last time I experienced one that bad in a simple motel, much less a 4-star hotel. The location is nice, though a bit weird to find via Waze - sent me into a parking garage and I didn't understand there was actually a front door/lobby until I drove around the building. There is a parking fee which gets added to your bill. On my reservation, I paid extra to upgrade my room to the "M" class, top floor. When I got there my phone was flashing (it wasn't messages) and I couldn't use the room phone to call down for help, so I used my cell phone to call the front desk. After a couple hours of trying to fix it, the nice maintenance guy offered me a room change (a floor lower) with a phone that worked and assured me everything was the same with my rate/benefits. So I had to repack everything and move (or rather than wait another hour or so while the phone was fixed). Except when I went to use the "M" lounge, my key wouldn't work. Front desk told me I had to pay for it, and I told them I already had when I booked a penthouse room. Then they looked at my room rate, and updated my key. I had dinner and a drink in the restaurant - drink was very nice, dinner was OK (the red pepper coulis on the salmon was inedible - far too spicy and killed the flavor of the salmon). Drawback was my server kept sniffling like he was going to spit phlegm (I know yuck) so I just wanted to get away from there. I went down to the hot tub (outside) which had a sign it was closed, only to find an hour later a family and their kids were out there. So I guess the sign was, for something else? Overall this was similar to Marriott quality I suppose - but the room fan was louder than a semi when it turned on and woke me up all night. Bed was comfortable and amenities were as expected. Room was mostly clean, except for a piece of dog food? on the carpet. Coffee (Starbucks) maker in the room was a nice touch. I found the staff helpful - but looked like they didn't really want to be, and didn't look happy to be there. It was, a little odd. OK - but odd. read more

First time here, I was wary due to the complaints. Everyone was very nice, things started off well. The Bonvoy app didn't want to work right, or their systems don't. I checked in at the airport, when I got here it didn't show me as checked in, and I couldn't use my phone as a key. Oh well, got a regular key... The first room stank really bad of cigarettes, so I went down 12 floors and a hiked back to reception with my luggage. They quickly switched me and the evening/night manager told them which room to give me, which turned out to be a suite. The suite was nice although largely identical to the stinky room, it's bigger and has an excellent view. This room has a slight cigarette odor as well, but it's not overwhelming and about a half hour after I noticed it, I no longer did. These are my negative observations after a few days, things other people have complained about. I didn't complain about all of these in person because it appears the manager is reading these and will address them as needed. Frankly these weren't end of the world issues, but if I were staying only one night, it would affect my stay much more than a week stay. - Sewer odor, ONCE in an elevator. That odor can carry quite a distance, I have my doubts it originates here or it would be a frequent odor. I think it's blowing in through the garage. - Items like coffee etc. not refilled, once for each item. Since I was alone, it wasn't a big deal, for example I was ok having only one cup of coffee on one of my 4 mornings. - There's a light behind the painting at the head of the bed. When I got there it was OFF. When I came back after housekeeping cleaned my room, it was ON. Later it was keeping me up so I turned it OFF again after I found the switch. It felt odd and lo and behold it would not turn on again. It's a minor issue but clearly the person that turned it on was aware it needs to be replaced. - One of my coworkers had a noise complaint, but that was fixed within 10 minutes. It's next to the university, teams from other universities stay here. They're young, perhaps not fully housebroken, just let the front desk know. - Room service food, OMG was that bad. The chicken wings were microwaved on top of the lettuce. Bleh. The burger had a great bun, lettuce, and tomato. The meat was a hockey puck and the fries were thrice fried. But I was tired and starving that first night, hunger being the best sauce I finished the burger and fries, but 3 wings was my limit. - The M lounge is clean and physically nice, but the food is definitely meh. The lounge is good for sitting and chatting with friends, to people watch, and maybe grab packaged snacks, but the other food is sad. Honestly, the food is so bad it needs to be addressed ASAP. I hate to complain about the M lounge food since she comped that, but many people paid for it. The lady working there in the evening was fielding complaints, which the complainers should have addressed downstairs. Still, overall it was an excellent stay. ALL the employees I interacted with were really trying to make your stay better. Especially the evening manager. Even when it's my error or misunderstanding she has been generous to make things right. The lady working in the M lounge in the evening is observant and she'll ask if you need help if you appear to be having a problem. It's absolutely amazing that people are making an effort. Overall the hotel is great, THE SHEETS ARE SPOTLESS (I checked, UV light). The duvet is white and spotless. The bed was very comfortable as were the 4 sleeping pillows. I could be wrong, but it felt as if I had 2 different types of pillows. If Í'm correct, that's a nice thing for people that may have a pillow preference. The sofa and chair weren't perfectly clean, but I could still see they were cleaned regularly. The only reason I saw the coffee ring on the chair was my UV light. The floors were spotless, using the UV light, I found at most 2 pieces of fuzz and one came off my sock. Cleanliness is clearly a priority here. My house isn't this clean! The hallways were clean, how clean I don't know, but I didn't plan to roll around the floors there. There wasn't visible dirt on the floors, the paint wasn't peeling, the elevators were clean, and the buttons were clean. I saw someone lazy left ONE soda bottle in an elevator rather than carry it 2 steps to the trash can. That's not unusual with young kids around, which means someone from the hotel is regularly checking for this sort of thing and cleaning. The bottom line is that I wouldn't hesitate to stay here. The issues I mentioned make up at most 2-3% of your stay, the rest of it is great. Ignore the current overall 2.5 star rating, I think that's a bit misleading because of past issues. No, it isn't perfect as I pointed out, but by the time you get here, I think it will be that much better. read more

The wait staff is rude, the food was awful. Run down hotel, over priced. The staff was horrible, zero customer service.

In February, the hotel removed in-room coffee makers and claimed a "supply chain issue" as the reason. Frankly, this explanation does not hold up. I have stayed at five other Marriott properties in the past three months, none of which have experienced this issue. This feels more like a cost-cutting measure than a genuine supply shortage and is being done at the expense of loyal guests. Beyond the coffee issue, the condition of the property is unacceptable: * The floors are filthy, particularly in common areas, and my shoes actually stuck to the floor in several places. * Tiles in Elevator 2 are damaged and have remained unrepaired for months. * The toiletries in the guest rooms are extremely low quality and inconsistent with Marriott brand standards. This level of neglect, combined with the removal of basic amenities, makes the property feel unkept and poorly managed. As a frequent and loyal guest, I expect more from the Marriott name. read more

Wonderful experience. Booked a room here for NYE. Wanted a room with a view... and this did not disappoint. We were given a corner room on the 23rd floor. Perfection. We could see a large section of the city... and fireworks all around through the evening. It fit the bill for exactly what we envisioned for this NYE. Room was clean. Bed was comfy.. the only suggestion is to have extra blankets available in the room. I didn't call for one as I knew the hotel was very busy. Used a towel to add warmth. Despite being a busy night, all staff were attentive and hard working. Felt secure. Spa wasn't working, which was a bummer - but even on a chilly January morning- the pool was a nice experience. I decide I'll just use the microwave in my room to reheat, but then I discover THERE IS NO MICROWAVE. I'm never staying at a Marriott again until they change their penny pinching ways. The hotel itself was fine but the customer service afforded by Marriott Customer Care is atrocious. My case number was 619247860. The receptionist told me that my bill would be emailed to me and she confirmed the address she had on my Marriott account which was correct. The email never arrived. This is the second time in 6 weeks that Marriott have refused to send me my bill. The Customer "CARE" agent Ketan M. tells me that they will not provide my bill as I reserved my room through Expedia and if I want a copy of my bill I have to go to Expedia. On my first stay at the Marriott in Nebraska the customer care agent copied and pasted my bill into an email as he obviously was unable to directly email it to me even though Marriott had the bill in their system. Came here for a conference at the convention center and it was great. I wasn't able to get into my room early but they had it ready right at check in time. I stayed on the 23rd floor and had great views of the city and bay. Beds were comfortable, bathroom clean and spacious. Ordered room service and the food was good and came quickly. There were some clanking noises which I attributed to being close to the elevator but it didn't impact my sleep. Would definitely stay again! read more

A brand new Marriott-branded hotel in downtown Tacoma... set-up to be a convention hotel. Warm and caring staff at the front desk, modern and clean rooms. Marriott standards but nothing extraordinary. COVID messing with food, bar, gym, and pool services... as in not having any, but overall good spot. read more
