Had lunch today and it was delicious. I had the Ruben sandwich which was the best over ever had. Thin slice corned beef on non greasy toast. Yummy. Friends had the hamburger club sandwich and another had the chicken pot pie soup and small spinach salad. We were all very happy and food was reasonably priced. We were visiting the area on our way to Alpine Valley, we read the other reviews and had to check it out for ourselves. We sat at the bar, ordered a full slab & cheese curds to share. We ended up ordering another full slab to ourselves. We were absolutely surprised that these were the best ribs of our lives. Can't forget to mention about the amazing old fashion. This place is a must visit! We make it in to Mars every time we visit Lake Delevan or Lake Como. The atmosphere is so festive inside. Tons of people watching, and you tend to meet someone every time you go. At Halloween all the waiters dress up. In the middle of winter you can watch people on snow mobiles pull up. Great deck for outdoor dinner or cocktails. There's a good selection of Wisconsin style food and lots of classic cocktails. Be prepared to wait a little bit for a table as everyone wants to be here. The wedding is not bad though because there is so much to look at and such a great field to the place. read more

Good ol Mars. This place is iconic. Even in the winter it is cozy and fun. You walk in, the piano is playing and the energy is positive-everyone is having a great time singing and smiling. My fiancés grandparents used to come here as regulars, and I feel so sentimental visiting. The last two times we came, we had the same server who is so friendly and attentive. The manager came up to check on us both times as well, and I really appreciate that. I am vegan so I usually get the bruschetta with no cheese and sweet potato fries. I notice that in the winter they have outdoor igloos to dine in, and I would love to try to do that next winter. I think it's really cool and modern that they have elevated the experience with that option. Love you Mars! read more

We've been to Mars a number of times since 2020. I know people rave about their fish fry (heck, I even did at one time)...but it has gone downhill big time. A couple months ago I had their fish fry and it was a huge disappointment. So much so that I told my wife I'll never order their fish again. However, apparently I lied, since I ordered it again last week. Big mistake. Our group of four ordered three baked cod, while I ordered the fried cod. Amazingly, the other three all loved their baked cod. I absolutely hated mine. The fish was rubbery (took an effort to cut it...and chew it) and was completely dry. I would have loved to tell our server but she never made an appearance until the end of the meal...of which I was only able to choke down less than half of it. When she came to take my plate, I told her I've been eating fish fries for most of my 70 years, and that this was...far and away...the absolute worst ever. I told her it seemed like they cooked the fish a couple days ago and let it sit before warming it up that day. Her response was a perfunctory, "Sorry to hear that" and then she took my plate away. No offer to replace it, remove it from the bill...nothing. And don't get me started on the pathetic cole slaw. There were several pieces of cabbage in my small bowl about the size of saltine crackers. Cole slaw needs to be chopped...not torn off the head and put into a serving dish in giant pieces. Gross. I wish I would have remembered to take a picture. This time, I will not be returning to Mars. And if I ever do, I will avoid the fried fish like the plague. read more

Absolutely loved it! Outdoor seating with the perfect view of the lake. We would have liked to sit outside but didn't want to wait. Waitress was friendly and had lots of energy! The food was awesome! I had the salmon sandwich with sweet potato fries. The rest of the table had ribs, streak and fried shrimp, fried calamari and green beans, coleslaw, and salads for sides To drink I had the Mars signature old fashioned. We've been to Mars three times, and the previous two were fine. Today, however... Our server was abrupt and while she got the job done, it was with a little attitude. Fried chicken came to the table looking delicious. When the breast was cut into, it turned out to still be frozen in the middle. Frozen. The thigh and leg were obviously not cooked through. The server offered to put it back in the fryer (now that it's been partially eaten and cut up?!) and made a lame excuse about why it wasn't cooked through. The salmon sandwich on rosemary ciabatta sounds delicious, yes? Well, the salmon had no flavor and the bread was a dry roll, not tender smooshy oily goodness that I'd expect. Sadly, we're out. A family favorite when we are at the lake. Great little super club with good food. Fun piano bar. Can get really busy so plan ahead.

I don't know why but I had an impression that that is will be a country club type of restaurant. In reality it was rather small and a run down type of place. The older lady (probably the owner) was talking down to the wait staff in front of us which was awkward and rude. I will tell you that those girls were moving at the speed of light already, very hardworking staff. There were no need to put them down especially in front of customers. My cheeseburger was super basic and lacked any seasoning whatsoever. My husband's burger was so raw he only are around the edges and left the center of the burger on the plate. View was nice though. I will not return and won't recommend. read more

Update and upgrade for Mars! I think we didn't pick the best items last time because both of our meals this last visit were great! This time the Mister opted for a fried walleye special which he really, really liked. The server told us that they get their fish from a guy "up north" and one week he brings walleye and the next bluegill. I went for the Italian beef sandwich which was served with au jus from the prime rib roast and hot giardinara. This sandwich was a solid 10" long and stuffed with what must have been a pound of thinly sliced beef - no fat, no gristle. The au jus was clearly homemade and had a delicious kick. It seriously was one of the best sandwiches I've had in a long time. Good service, reasonable prices, lake views and let's not forget about the piano bar that is ACTUALLY A PIANO. read more

Mars Bar is a popular place nestled by Lake Como. They are known for friday fish fry or their Ribs. Always busy but we decided to stop for beverage and appetizer with friends. We sat at the bar and noticed how everyone was relaxing and enjoying the afternoon. What a good time and you could tell the bartenders knew alot of the locals who were there. Very nice bartenders. You could look across the lake and see an ice castle on the other side. Just remember you might have to use your GPS to find this Gem. read more

We found this little gem by accident about 5 years ago. Such a great place for lunch or dinner!

We've been here a few times during summer for drinks, but somehow never made it in for a proper dinner until this evening. Better late than never, I guess. I saw several orders of ribs and steaks come out of the kitchen that looked fabulous, but I went rogue and ordered the Grecian Pork chops. They were excellent, as was my wife's salmon. The bartender also made one of the best old fashions I've had in a long time. The intimate dining room is charming with a decor that reminds me of supper clubs further north and boasts some pretty nice views of Lake Como. We will definitely return. read more

This place has beautiful location on Lake Como. It is more of a bar plus restaurant. It was extremely busy and very noisy. Food was only average and there were many flies flying around. I would not recommend this place except for the location. I will not be returning. read more

I came here upon recommendation for excellent ribs and views, and I was pleased with the choice! It was so nice to be back at a restaurant and dine with a lovely view of the water. Our service was perfect, and our new Glarus beers refreshing. The ribs were delicious and tender, but they were on the smaller side in terms of portions. The vintage motif as original as can be, clean, awesome beach front location which would be so cool to hangout in the summa, helpful staff, friendly patrons, really good burgers. Last night we decided to bust out of IL and head to Lake Geneva for dinner. We decided to head to Mars. There was a group of 5 of us and we were excited to try a place none of us had been to. We started out with shrimp cocktails, Walleye fingers and mozzarella sticks! Everything was awesome! Came out hot and fresh! For our main course My friend and I got a burger, my husband got the patty melt and the other person we were with got a full rack of ribs. Again, everything was superb. I have no complaints at all. Since this was our first meal at a restaurant since March, we decided drinks were appropriate! All us had a few cocktails and beers. Put total bill for 4 adults and 1 kids was $207. I didn't think that was bad at all.. especially for how much food we had. The energy in the establishment was awesome! You could tell everyone working there was just happy to be back working and the patrons were just happy to be out feeling "normal". I am so happy we found this awesome little gem off the main beaten path of Lake Geneva! We will absolutely be back sooner than later. read more

We just came here tonight for our 1 year wedding anniversary! What an amazing environment! We expected a long wait going in, since it's no reservations, and their fish fry was today. It was a 90 minute wait, which we were fine with and had an amazing time waiting at the bar! We got a table well under the 90 minutes after a few drinks at the bar. The prices here are amazing for what you get! We each got the fried cod fish fry, and we added a half slab of their ribs Cisco style (dry rub) as our bartender recommended. These were some of the best ribs I've ever had in my life! They fell off the bone, and we left nothing behind. The ambience in this place is lively, fun, and all around a great time. Everyone, including the staff was singing along to classics with the piano singer. We came from out of town and anytime we visit Lake Geneva this will now be a MUST stop for us! read more

Second time I've been here while up in LG. Water view restaurant that has been there since the 1920s. Multiple owners but still has that nostalgic feel. It's darker inside, dark wood decor. They have an outdoor patio (NOT dog friendly) with heaters and a great water view. They are known for their ribs. My husband has ordered them both times we've dined here. The parking lot can get full but people park along the street, in the gravel, wherever. Prices are average for the area. We ordered the cheese curds for an appetizer, yum! They have a decent draft list with spotted cow of course. The local's choice! They have a piano bar on Fri and sat nights, it's packed here! The live music isn't bad, we enjoyed it. Staff is friendly. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. If you are looking for something causal, less touristy than Popeyes on the Lake, and with a water view... give this place a try! read more

And pretty much every other night for the food, old-school ambience, and awesome location on the lake? Well, if you haven't heard, you know now. Go here. It's not the cheapest place, but the quality of the food and cocktails is off the charts, and the location can't be beat. If you do decide to come by on Friday for the fish fry, get there early. The place is packed because the locals and the tourists know that here is where you will get a phenomenal meal and also hear some live piano music to round out your night. Customer service is excellent and the food is delicious supper club fare, reasonably priced as well. My wife had the fried chicken, tender and crunchy, some of the best you'll find. I had the marinated charred half duck with dipping sauce, a tender, tasty, fat free unique version of duck. Additionally, the wait staff is courteous, attentive and some of the best you'll find. Well this went from a highly anticipated dinner to a take home meal. First of all there was a wait of over an hour which we were willing to do. Parking is incredibly difficult and the hour wait came in handy as we had to cruise around a long time to wait for a spot on the roadside. My wife ordered a chief salad which was great and I ordered a ribeye steak that came with soup and loaded baked potato. The waitress was great. She let us know that the kitchen was backed up so it would be a while. When my steak arrived it was overcooked to the point of dryness and burned edges. The waitress offered to replace it and the second was way undercooked. We decided it was easier to take it home to finish cooking correctly. So... Very disappointed. read more

They don't take reservations so we were concerned about a wait , however the hostess was awesome and was able to accommodate us quickly in two four tops. The place was very busy with great energy! The environment was fun and festive . I ordered the Mahi mahi which was very good ! They have the igloos outside and I want to come back and dine in one of them too ! After 100 years in business, Mars doesn't need my review. It is truly a gem. I have been going to Mars for over 30 of those years and it is always a highlight of our trip. The location, atmosphere and staff are the best. I rarely get excited about ordering chicken, but Mars delivers perfection. Ribs fall off the bone. Portions are great.
