I visited this highly rated Italian spot in Conroe which reminded me a little of a spot in the Humble/Atascocita area since they both advertise their supposedly outstanding garlic knots. Come to find out Marsala's also has a location in Huffman, but they are not related to my other fav spot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside, the restaurant is actually small, I was expecting it to be much larger.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They do bring you their garlic knots right at the beginning of the meal, but they did not look or taste much like my other fav Italian place in NE Houston. The bread at Marsala's was dry and crusty (the other place has soft and pillowy bread) and there was no drippings or garlic butter resting at the bottom of the bowl, so I just ate a little of the interior of the knot itself. I ended up choosing a lighter dish, shrimp scampi, since I was still full from lunch and my dining companion chose the chicken penne. I'm not sure whether the chef was out sick or what happened exactly, but both dishes came out from the kitchen really bland. There was no salt or seasoning to the food. The pasta also didn't seem like the water was salted during cooking. We mentioned this issue to our server, who then told the manager. They were really apologetic and even comped our entrees even though that wasn't our original intention. I just wanted to know what happened and why there was no seasoning at all in the food. We left and of course didn't bother to order dessert. In summary, the service was really good, I will give them that much, but the food was barely edible. My friends and I are in town for a convention and stopped by since our hotel is nearby and the reviews are high. Everything just seemed to take a little while.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bread was HUGE and a great part of the meal. Easily one roll was 2-3 normal ones and tasted great. Piccata is my judgement dish of choice when visiting a new Italian place and I found this one lacking a bit. The tomatoes and artichokes were a strange choice, the veal was breaded like Parmesan and the breading was constantly falling off, and overall the sauce was relatively flavorless. It wasn't a gross dish, but I felt it didn't truly represent piccata. We don't regret coming here, and of course are only tourists, but I personally might not come here again. read more

In general, I think this was a solid dinner place option. Food- I ordered the caprese pasta and a happy hour appetizer and a happy hour wine. Everyone else ordered everything from steak to pastas. Generally all happy and no complaints. Service- I didn't catch his name though.The server we had was very quick.He was happy to answer any questions. If you are a veggie lover, the mushrooms and green onions were very fresh. I usually prefer them sauteed more, but these would satisfy a mushroom lover! They appeared to have been folded into the sauce right before plating. I looked over the dessert menu after devouring my fish, when my server mentioned they could do a half portion of dessert! My husband and I tried a new place last night. It's always a ridk, but last night was a flat failure. The reviews are great, so good for them -- but *this is not Italian food.*. Their white sauce is NOT AN ALFREDO, which is butter and Parmesan. It is a cream gravy, unsalted, which they seem to put on everything that's not red sauce. The sauted spinach which I ordered was a small handful, mostly raw, that came soaked in about 1/4 cup or more olive oil. Again, NO seasoning, no garlic in ANY dish, and the angel hair was overcooked and mushy. I do not believe that the people who rave in these rebiews know what the original dishes taste like. This was so bad that if somebody offered me this or Olive Garden, I would go there. It might not be italian food they serve there either, but at least you can taste it when they give you something. And the service was lackadaisical, and manager during our after conversation could not figure out that if someone cannot eat food, payment shouldn't be demanded. So it's a cafe, with pounded breaded chicken cutlets with cream gravy. Call it breaded chicken with country gravy, not chicken piccatta. read more

Out in Conroe, looking for a quick dinner and ran across Marsala's. The parking lot was full and there were people waiting for tables which we took for a good sign. The interior of the restaurant is dated, dusty grape foliage and disproportionate faux brick work so it was like teleporting back in time. The menu looked good though the addition of chopped tomato to piccata sauce was telling. That and being told by a regular that the lasagna was similar to Olive Garden. Not what I would liken to authentic but there are those that are fans. The meal started well with light and tasty garlic knots. We settled on the lasagna and the veal Marsala as our entrees. The lasagna was a dryer version of the dish covered with a heaping pile of meat sauce that did much to offset the dryness. The veal Marsala was featured a white sauce (??!) with a few mushrooms that tasted like pancake batter with a touch of Marsala wine mixed. Came here for dinner with a friend about a week ago. I found myself to be a little more impressed than I expected. First off, I'm originally from Chicago which is a large hub of Italian eateries so I'm a bit critical of Italian restaurants since I've frequented my fair share of them back home, not to mention my Italian friends who've cooked for me over the years. My expectations were low coming here. We received the starter plate of garlic knots. These legit had me hooked from jump! Very soft, buttery, seasoned well and just melt in your mouth. I could literally just have a plate of these garlic knots by themselves! Hands down some it the best starter rolls I've had a restaurant to date. They were so good, my friend ordered a second plate. Our waitress Tatum was very friendly and helpful. She gave us some practical suggestions based on her favorites. I decided on the vodka sauce ravioli. I have a friend in Chicago who makes a really good homemade vodka sauce. This was very comparable to hers. Good consistent creamy texture, complex flavor of Italian herbs and well seasoned. It complemented the ravioli well which was perfectly cooked al dente. It was quite an enjoyable meal. The atmosphere was perfect for a date night. Very calming and low lighting with modest decoration. This is a little gem tucked in the middle nowhere Conroe, next to a gas station that I would've easily slept on. I ordered a family meal to go. When I got to this place to pick up my order, there was a waiting line to dine in. It smelled delicious and the lady at the counter already knew about my order. I ordered the alfredo pasta with chicken. I honestly feel like it could have had a bit more flavor, it was a bit plain. It was very full. I also ordered the fried calamari, the flavor was delicious but all the coating fell off by the time we got home. The bread was soft and fresh, just delicious we also ordered the spinach and artichoke dip and it was delicious. I will come back for sure and will recommend it to my friends. Dinner tonight was a real treat...a little spot called Marsala's Italian Grill. I was seated and my server Grier got me set up with a beer and water while I looked things over. I had read the reviews here and was determined to try their jalapeño cream sauce. When she returned I ordered the Chicken Marsala along with a small side dish of spaghetti with the jalapeño cream sauce. The garlic knots they serve are unbelievable...silky soft on the inside and a nice firm crust slathered in oils, butter, parmesan cheese, and garlic...it's tough not to eat the entire plate. The chicken marsala...excellent. The chicken is nicely breaded and the sauce is has a light marsala wine flavor with a subtle sweetness. As for the side spaghetti dish with the jalapeño cream sauce, one of the most unusual and delicious sauces I have enjoyed in a long time. The sauce is not "hot & spicy" due to the jalapeños, but the distinct flavors of the jalapeños really made this a special sauce. The bread pudding for dessert was really good, easy to tell this was a inhouse creation. The service here is great and Grier took wonderful care of me. I was also visited by the Manager Tammy who inquired about my experience. She told me how things are created from scratch inhouse and she is very proud of the restaurant. read more

I had the veal picatta, my buddy had a chicken Alfredo dish. While Alfredo isn't a dish that I usually order, I might make an exception for Marsala's. He loved it, and it looked delicious. Mine was really good. The veal picatta was really good. Perfectly pan fried, thin cut, and sliced, the veal was placed on a bed of angel hair pasta with a light lemon and white wine sauce, tomatoes, capers, and herbs. It was one of the better Italian dishes I've had. I also particularly enjoyed the service AND THE ATMOSPHERE! Very live music played quietly in the background. Because this is one of my favorite places I've found in the area. --- --- --- We have been on a bit of a local food tour over the holidays and our first visit was basically flawless, despite it being a to-go order. First off, I was surprised as I pulled up to see this place share a parking lot with a Valero. What is it with this area where the best Italian-based eateries have gas stations in their parking lots? (Tony's) I was tempted by several things on the menu, but ended up choosing chicken marsala. It's usually a sound decision to order the namesake of the restaurant. And it paid off for me. I loved every bite. The only thing I wish had been different is getting to enjoy this hot and fresh in the restaurant. We definitely will do that next time. My wife was torn between the chicken parm and the lasagna. I voted for the parm, but in typical wife fashion, she went with the opposite of what I said. But I enjoyed stealing a few bites of it, regardless. We also both ordered house salads with vinaigrette. They were perfect. Wouldn't change a thing. So we were in the area and searched for Italian restaurants near me and this had 4.7 ..... started off with the garlic knots and OMG so delicious slightly crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside. Then we got the spinach artichoke dip and it was great to have a bigger piece of garlic bread to put the dip on. For our entrées, I got the chicken piccata and had them add spinach to it and my husband had the chicken Parmesan and both of them were so delicious. My third trip to this location as a different restaurant. HOWEVER, I truly hope that this one is to stay. The garlic knots are a fantastic tantalizer. The menu has some fantastic choice and the pricing is below what you would expect for the quality they serve. The Veneto beef tenderloin with bacon and cream sauce is tender and well balanced. Excellently paired with the Super Tuscan for $8 a glass. A great idea for those of you looking to enjoy yourself but cut carbs, sub your pasta for thinly sliced veggies. These are NOT zoodles but sautéed veg with an excellent bite like al dente.
