Excellent food. The ribs have a nice, smokey grill flavor - rich to the point where you'd probably be tempted to skip the BBQ sauce. But the BBQ sauce is really great and in a form not found as often in Southern California: it's tangy, thinner, and well seasoned. It tastes like a North Carolina or a Memphis sauce. The spicy version of their sauce is particulary enticing... you'll sweat but it'll marinate the food with an incredible additional punch that seems to bring out that smokiness. When you park and walk in you'll see them grilling the meats right outside the door. You'll go up to the counter and place your order and then get called back up to pick it up. Very simple but friendly service. Their garlic bread is good, but it's especially good for picking up the remaining sauce on your plate when you're done. The ribs are especially good and ordering a la carte seems to serve a family well. The potato sald has a universal appeal - it's flavourful, great when it's drizzled with some of the BBQ sauce, and the a la carte orders are ample. The sausage is truly tasty and clean - not greasy, which tends to be the catch with sausage in so many places. The cole slaw and the baked beans go great together - but especially good when you add BBQ sauce to this too. The crowing combination at Marshall's is truly great BBQ sauce and truly well made meats. On two visits you can tell that when it's busier your meat will have to compete for a little of that extra care - but, overall, it seems there is a consistent quality there based on the feedback you hear from other customers. The restaurant is a tad out of the way: this is a strength. It stands on its own, apart from many other eatieres, and is a simple, comfortable, at-home vibe of an environment. As a regular here, I am super disappointed to see that they discontinued serving their sandwiches on the bread they used to serve. I had it today, and the bread was soggy and spongy. We asked about the change and they said it is permanent. I will have to say I absolutely love this place but will not be coming back if they continue to use the spongy soggy bread. I LOVE the bbq at Marshall's! I've given up on ordering ribs from most bbq joints because they can't compare to mine. Marshall's serves up the best ribs I've ever had. Their chicken and pulled pork are moist and tender. Sides are full of flavor (OMG the beans!) and the desserts are tasty. It doesn't look like much on the inside, but the food is amazing. What has happened to our favorite local BBQ place?!! Our family used to LOVE the food here, and I would tell everyone that loves beef ribs about Marshall's. Seriously, I was a huge fan of Marshall's BBQ for years, until sometime around the past year or so. They have changed some of their recipes. Their mac n cheese was a favorite in our household, my kids could have lived off of it if I let them. All their sides, in fact, stood on their own and not just merely as sides. But now my kids won't even touch the mac & cheese, so dry and bland. When we drive past that big rooster, they ask if the mac & cheese is "back to normal" yet. I've brought it up to the workers, and they have confirmed the recipe has changed, and one person said she would report it. We have given them several tries since, but no more - dry pork ribs, dry jerky-like beef ribs, dry & bland mac & cheese, coleslaw now watery and no longer has pineapple bits like before, chili beans have lost bacon and flavor. I'm saddened by this negative review. Like I said, we were HUGE fans, and I was happy with my previous 5 star review. Their spicy sauce is still delicious and employees are still friendly, but these won't make up for bad BBQ. I'm hoping they go back to their roots, but for now we're still on the hunt for a new local BBQ favorite. read more

It's been years since I last visited Marshall's. It was one of my go-to lunch bbq joints and after today, it still is. I like how they can cook steaks fresh for your sandwich, but I ordered it medium rare and it turned out close to well done. The sauces are all great. I can see why they sell them in bottles. If you want a good side, go with the potato salad and skip the Mac and cheese (a little bland). read more

Was only passing through town so can't comment on this extensively but it was disappointing for the one time we had it. The sausage links were actually really good and I would get them again (not spicy though) The ribs were not edible - had a funny taste that we did not like at all. Couldn't even finish them which for a meat lover like me was depressing. The Tri tip was good but nothing to phone home about. I am guessing that if you had these on a sandwich you would enjoy it more than I did because you can supplement the taste with other aspects of the sandwich but for I like to eat bbq for the meat. read more

Found this place when we were hunting for dinner, and saw the smoker outside in the parking lot before anything else. Okay, a few points: -decor is on point and really creative; really feels like you're in some old west saloon inside. -food prices were super reasonable (I think my burrito was $10.50? These days, that'll get you a croissant) -portions were great (burrito is like huge, full of filling) and the food was so simple but so tasty; my bf loved the pulled pork sandwich and he's a little picky :)) I'll end on one note: GET THE BREAD PUDDING. WHEN IT'S LIKE $5, THERE'S NO REASON TO NOT GET IT!! IT'S LIKE PALACE LEVEL!! I bet the peach cobbler is amazing too; hands down need to go back to try that. read more

First time visiting this establishment and I'm so glad that I did. I tried the smoked baby back ribs and they were delicious. Cooked well through, yet still tender and delicious. Even before I put any sauce on them, they tasted delectable. You get good portions for the price you pay. Service is friendly and welcoming. Food was handed over with a big old smile. I grab dinner here about twice a month. It is consistently great. Super service with friendly staff. Good prices with a generous portion for what you pay. It's conveniently located right off the 101 (you have probably seen the giant chicken on the roof). I recently dined at Bodacious BBQ in VENTURA, California, hoping for an authentic barbecue experience, but I was left quite disappointed. Having had the pleasure of enjoying true Southern barbecue, I couldn't help but compare, and unfortunately, this place didn't even come close. Pulled pork sandwich came with very sweet bbq sauce mixed in to the meat like it was just sitting in a crockpot waiting to get thrown into some foil. There were no coleslaw for the sandwich either. Just a hard toasted ciabatta roll cut in half with the overly sweet, pulled pork that's been marinating in the bbq sauce. Never been to BBQ without brisket on the menu.. the baby back ribs and regular pork ribs were FREEZER BURNED. These were not fresh ribs on the grill. It was dry and lacked the rich, smoky flavor that defines good BBQ. The ribs were overcooked, almost to the point of being tough, and the sauce was overly sweet, missing that perfect balance of tangy and spicy. The spicy bbq sauce was overly spicy. Even the sides, like the macaroni salad, felt like an afterthought rather than the hearty accompaniments you'd find in Southern joints. In the South, BBQ is more than just food--it's a tradition, a craft honed over generations. The meat is tender, falls off the bone, and is infused with deep, smoky goodness that you just can't replicate with shortcuts. Sadly, Bodacious BBQ seemed to prioritize freezer burned ribs over substance, leaving me craving the real deal. If you're looking for an authentic BBQ experience, this place isn't it..the locals seem to love it tho. It makes my heart sad. Stick to the South for the real flavors of barbecue. Been coming for years and WAS always a good BBQ spot. Since moving back we have been back about about twice. Since then both time have been 2 out of 5 stars. First time back we ordered a tri tip dinner and a tri tip burrito. The tri tip dinner was disappointing because the piece we got looked like the left over trimmings that they just throw into the plate. None of the slices of tri tip was that "slice after slice." We were glad the burrito was great. The second time we came back we were disappointed again as our food was not the as good as it used to be from when we first started coming here.
