I used to really love this place and it was our go to when we went to dinner. Now it seems they have lost their mojo for several reasons. The food portions are so small for such big prices. $28 for 5 BABY (super small) ribs with two very small sides. Don't get me wrong the food is good. The service we encountered from the server was poor as she came one time to get orders and then never saw her again until the bill. But yet I'm supposed to tip her for that one time of asking what we wanted. The place is dark and dated. Could use a remodel now. Although this place has pretty good service, I will say their happy hour sucks big time! None of the alcohol is on the happy hour so you end up paying at least $13 a glass for wine and at least 15 and up for a mixed drink or liquor and beer starts around $12 a pint. There are so many other places in Ventura with good food and great happy hour pricing on their alcohol. There are food happy pricing, but it looks to be only 3 to 4 dollars off the original price and smaller portions than the original entrée save your money go to two trees or someplace else. Another great dining experience here! We came in on a Saturday afternoon around 4:30 and the wait was crazy but we just headed over to the bar and dined there! We had excellent service! A wonderful option as the bar tenders take great care of the customers here! My husband and I loved our meals,m! I had the chicken sandwich with regular fries and that was delicious. I really enjoyed the coleslaw that was included oknthe sandwich. Kind of looks like an old fashioned steakhouse. Waitstaff was very attentive and nice. Temp was fine as was the noise level. Food was hit and miss. I got the sliders. Pulled pork and tri-tip. TT was great. But just very little messy. What was there was delicious though. It's also pretty sweet so it won't work for you if you do not like a sweet sauce. Baked potato was, of course, wonderful. Ooh, bread rolls. Yummy, yummy. Buttery, garlicky goodness. Cons: Pulled pork slider. Very minimal amount of meat. They topped it with slaw which i didn't care for. My BIL got the rib plate. No side salad, 5 ribs, coleslaw. It was over $20+. It was just a sad looking plate. I'll be back. I was in town yesterday visiting family and we decided to try out this place! It reminds me a lot of Lucille's Smokehouse BBQ back home (I'm from the South Bay). It was very quiet and there was plenty of seating. The restaurant also looked very clean. We came at a good time around 12:30pm. I ordered the BBQ Chicken with a side of macaroni and cheese. Husband got Sirloin with baked potato. It was very delicious and everything tasted fresh. We were a party of 12 so it did take a while for us to receive our food. However, we used Uber Eats twice now and both times delivery was on par but food order was not incorrect and didn't resemble anything like food served in house . Wood Ranch offers a lunch menu with lunch menu prices before 4 pm each day. I ordered before 4 pm today and also last week, and both times I was charged dinner prices which amounted to $20 extra for each visit. Last week I just paid the higher price to avoid complaining but today I spoke to the restaurant manager. He said I was charged the higher price because my server entered my food order after 4 pm. Bottom line my restaurant arrival time had absolutely nothing to do with their pricing. It's all about the time my server input my order. Seems to me restaurant management may support this policy because it does increase their profits and also gratuities for their servers. If I tried to scam them for an extra $20 I would probably be facing legal issues. After my bill was adjusted the manager did tell me he was sorry, so my complaint was not totally lost.
