I have a lot of lovely memories in this restaurant, whether they be with family, or just sharing a Sunday breakfast with someone special. It's a beautiful location at the heart of Downtown Marshall, with indoor and outdoor seating. When I arrived here a couple of weekends ago, I was dismayed to find that ownership had changed hands. Alas, boasting the same menu, reasonable pricing, and a still engaging and friendly staff - it still felt like a comfortable and welcoming place to be. The flavor and portions of the servings has always been above par, and that hasn't changed. I don't know if they have the same staff in the kitchen, but the food still tastes like a meal you'd have at home with family. I met one of the new owners, and she made me feel like family, and offered me one of the incredible scones she made that morning. I look forward to her other baked items that I overheard will be sharing some space at Main Street Cafe. The scone was a 10/10. With so much changing around us everyday, it can be especially hard when something attached to so many memories goes through an evolution as well. Sometimes changes can improve things, and I feel like, in this instance, what still felt like home will also be a place where I can enjoy some incredible baked goods, and maybe more. Tried to get lunch here on a weekday but service was so bad that we just left. First, they "ran out" of coffee. I'm sorry, but this is a cafe/diner, how do you run out of coffee by noon? Second, we ordered two things - a chicken wrap and chicken burrito bowl. 30 minutes later, still no signs of food and barely a server in sight. Don't know what kind of business they are running here. If you have time to wait, then maybe eat here but otherwise stay away. read more

I had lunch here. I ordered the tuna melt on rye. My server was pleasant and attentive without being bothersome. This place is under new ownership/management. My sandwich came out promptly. Rye toasted and fries hot. The tuna fish was tasty and the cheese slices, bacon and tomatoes were great accompaniments. I enjoyed the meal and ambience. I will definitely be back. read more

Our second time here. We have been visiting Marshall for so many years and this charming location has had so many restaurants. Today we had driven from out of town in search of breakfast. We arrived right at 11:00 when they were changing over to lunch but begged and the cook agreed to serve us breakfast. My husband was craving blueberry pancakes and I chose the Greek omelet. Well let me tell you, when our server brought over our plates we were in heaven. My husband's plate included two thick yet very light pancakes. He also ordered a side of bacon and eggs. He raved over the pancakes. My Greek omelet was, really, the best I have every had. The filling included spinach, tomatoes, onions, pepperoncini and kalamata olives. The eggs were very light with a topping of feta cheese. Great service and fantastic food! Very nice cafe for a small town. read more

Wife and I made a trip from Weaverville and it was very enjoyable. The food was delicious. We had hamburger steak with onions and brown gravy, macaroni and cheese, and okra. It was all incredibly good. The way they made the Mac cheese was perfect...cup style bowl where the cheese was running down the side a little bit... cooked with heart for sure. Atmosphere was nice- relaxing and super friendly staff. We will go back for sure the next time we are in the Asheville area. read more

You MUST eat here! These are the kindest, most generous, caring people. The food is delicious and service does not go without a smile. We were stranded when our car broke down about 10 miles out of town. Two elderly gentlemen picked us up and drove us to the Marshall Main Street Cafe where we could stay warm, grab a bite and call roadside assistance. Even though the cafe was very busy they did not ask us to leave when we hung around so long and monopolized a table and they were genuinely concerned about our situation. a special shout out to Deb - you know why - bless you!! Kristie and her son Ben are running an exceptionally charming little country café here in Marshall, one of the most delightful mountain towns you'll ever visit. The courtyard in back is a fabulous area for outdoor dining, nestled into the side of a mountain. Our food was consistently excellent and the service was prompt. Yesterday (Sunday - busier), we were served by very charming young Gudu, a tall slender young woman just out of college, who will be returning to Virginia soon. That will be a loss for the restaurant, but - if the restaurant is not too slammed when you are there - you might want to ask her about her plans for back home, which are quite interesting. Perhaps the biggest treat for me on both days that I visited was Kristie's five-year-old granddaughter Paisley. There is a little stage at the back of the courtyard and Paisley loves to sing and dance back there. She absolutely could not be cuter and sweeter. She loves the attention and applause of the diners - and yesterday accepted several tips for her college fund. It is clear that Paisley's stepdad Ben and her grandmother dote on her and totally support her burgeoning creativity. As a result, she is solid enough to creatively amuse herself out back for hours, without a lot of parenting going on - especially at busy times for the restaurant, when Ben and Kristie are both working quite hard. (Kristie asks that - no matter how much you want to remember little Paisley - you do it with your mind only and not photograph her. My experience is that lots of parents and grandparents have this wish about their young ones.) There is another, perhaps hipper coffee shop right across the street - with all the modern niceties like an app to do your online order. But that place does not have as good outdoor seating, nor does it have the down-home charm of this place. Price's at the Main St. Café are quite reasonable; I've got a hunch they are steeper across the street. When I have to choose between the two, I consistently opt for Kristie and Ben and Paisley. Overall, Marshal's Main St. Café is one of my favorite finds from the last year of roaming the North country of western North Appalachia. read more

Waitress didn't know answers to any questions we asked. Food was bland. Everyone was kind

I had high hopes for a nice quick lunch based on other reviews. Alas, that was not my experience. First the good - my egg salad sandwich was very good. The macaroni and cheese sides for the kids were some delicious obviously homemade stuff. Our server was very sweet and friendly but our food took at least thirty minutes (if not closer to forty) to come out (in an almost empty restaurant). I was very aware of the time as we had to be at a rafting outpost and had given us at least a full hour to dine. Everything else was pretty average and my child's hotdog was inedible - the hotdog itself was chewy/ "rubber like" and the bun had been grilled to a blackened hard mass. I could have and probably should have said something but a server should also pick up on the fact that the food they brought can't or isn't being eaten. As another reviewer has noted the problem lies quite possibly with lack of staff, in the kitchen, up front or both. read more

Y'all this place is so cute. We ate outside on their spacious, dog-friendly patio (all tables were far apart to accommodate social distancing). Our waitress brought a water dish for our dogs without asking and was so friendly! Breakfast is served until 1 p.m. on weekends, so my husband ordered the western omelet, corned beef hash, hash browns and biscuits and gravy. The gravy was phenomenal (which other reviews have noted) and the rest of the entree was superb! I had the chicken quesadilla which was huge and very filling, and a side of mac 'n cheese. Just a lovely diner style place in Marshall. It's got the typical food items on the menu. We had breakfast and it's what you expect with a bit more such as their homemade jams. Quaint little place and the only thing open after a horseback ride one Saturday in June (most places closed during COVID-19 Crisis). It was their first day open and had outdoor patio seating with plenty of social distance. The owner was serving and had great kitchen help - the food was so good. Fresh salads, great black bean burger and quesadilla was yummy. Cute little diner in adorable Marshall! We enjoyed a laid back Sunday morning breakfast. The service was good, as if it was your mama was serving you breakfast. Friendly, attentive and helpful. We ordered the pancake french toast breakfast, biscuits & gravy, pancakes & bacon and a meat lovers omelet. Everything was tasty. The pancakes were delicious. The biscuits & gravy were just okay, the biscuit wasn't anything special and there wasn't any sausage in the gravy. The omelet could've used cheese inside of it, but I loved how thin the egg was. The french toast was totally bomb! It was kind of weird that there wasn't any background music. That would make the place feel cozier. Overall we enjoyed our meal and will be back! read more

The food was decent my biscuit and gravy didn't seem that fresh. The waitress was overwhelmed and showing frustration. Definitely needed help. We stopped in for lunch while we were out exploring. The café is clean and has some interesting items on display. We were greeted and seated immediately with the menu. As we looked at the menu we considered whether we wanted to stay because we were imagining the worst version of the items on the menu. But as we talked to the owner we decided that we wanted to give our business and support her operation. We are very glad that we stayed! We both ordered the BLT sandwich and macaroni and cheese as a side and I have to say they were excellent, especially the macaroni and cheese which was homemade. When we were offered dessert, we said yes. We had coconut cake and banana cream pie. We learned they were both made in house and they were super good. Don't let the plain menu and decor fool you with this place. It is definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area. We would definitely return! read more

Main Street Café is our Go-To spot for breakfast in Marshall. It's become a weekly tradition! The service is fast and friendly. The food is always served fresh and hot. I love the Greek Omelet with Hashbrowns, Biscuit, and great jelly/jam choices. We are vegetarian and find plenty of options to choose from (although we tend to go back to our favorites most of the time), but there are plenty of options for carnivores too! We love supporting local businesses and restaurants. The food and the people at Main Street Cafe make it easy to come back again and again! read more
