The music was a little on the loud side so conversation was a little strained. The food was absolutely amazing. Our server was very friendly and informative but was not quite as attentive as we would expect for an establishment like this. This was our first time here, so we had to try the Asparagus Fries. The asparagus was cooked to perfection but the batter did not have much flavor. Members of our party ordered the California Salad, a Veggie Burger, the Meatloaf and a Picante Pizza. The California Salad was smaller than expected but delicious. The Veggie Burger was excellent! The Meatloaf was the hit of the table. It was so good that my wife did not offer a taste to any of us. She was in food Heaven. The pizza was exactly as described and tasted wonderful. Since we were celebrating my birthday, our server brought me a delicious piece of double chocolate cake with a candle in it. Nice touch!! We also had one of their Warm Butter Cake's with some excellent vanilla ice cream on top. Absolutely wonderful!. This may be our new "go-to" place. Looking forward to return to savor the other items on the menu. Their drinks looked delicious as well, so we will definitely try those too.

We ended up at Magnolia House for a late lunch/early dinner. They also serve breakfast/brunch only on weekends. Walked in around 4:30pm and we were greeted by Brian, one of the managers. Brian was the standout star of the whole experience! His energy was exceptional and he is such a great conversationalist. He checked on us several times throughout our meal and made sure we were doing well. He on his own was HANDS DOWN a five star human being. At first, he wanted to seat us in the back corner but I told him the table was too small and he accommodated us with a bigger table. Our server Kiana came up to the table with a pleasant smile and greeting to take our drink orders. I got a glass of cranberry juice along with some water. My son got the American Dream cocktail along with some water. We skipped on dessert. From 4-6pm, they have a happy hour menu with some of their cocktails and shareable plates. The portions are just a bit smaller and the prices are a little lower. It's a good way to sample different items. I think we got a good variety of food to enjoy. To start, we got the Little Gem Salad. It was such a unique combination of flavors and SUPER delicate/light. My son and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The next starter was the Zucchini and Feta Fritters, which was good but not the best out of everything else we ordered. The zucchini was a bit mushy but the batter it was fried in was crispy. Another starter we shared were the Moroccan Spiced Chicken Wings. These wings are gigantic and very flavorful. They definitely pack some heat, so be careful. I don't think the A/C was NOT working to begin with, so the place was already hot. The wings made us sweat even more. For entrées, we got the burger and the pork belly. Brian said they are known for their burger and after taking the first bite, it's clear as to why. It was absolutely PERFRCTION. So delicious! The bun, the meat, the cheese, the onions, and the crispy bacon...all of it mixed together into the perfect burger. I had wanted to add some mushrooms and avocado to it, but Kiana said they were unable to do it. I also asked for lettuce and she said that would be an extra charge. What extra charge for lettuce? We still got charged for avocado when the bill came, but they took it off once we mentioned it. The pork belly was also very tender, flavorful, and crispy. It's just hard to compete with the burger! We also got an order of the Belgian Fries to share and we were both pleasantly surprised at how good they were. The fries are salty and cut pretty thick. The sauce that came on the side was so yummy. We asked for a small extra cup to-go. All in all, the food was great and we liked everything. The vibe of the restaurant wasn't really all that for me. Brian genuinely made up for anything that was lacking in the atmosphere. He is such a wonderful asset to the restaurant and their company. The restaurant itself has been here for about 15 years now and it used to be a very old house. You can tell when you look around. They did a good job with the renovations, but you can see the different areas/rooms. I think they tried to keep the casual comfort of a home, while making it a slightly elevated experience. It was very clean everywhere, especially the bathrooms. They have one gender neutral bathroom, one for men, and one for women. No private parking, so you'll have to park on the street and put money in the kiosk. They also had an outdoor seating. Pretty BIG, only took picture of one side. They also have 2 small TVs. In the bar area and inside their cute lounge. I normally like to try new places, especially when I'm in Pasadena, so I'm not sure if I'll come back here. It tastes like bland bar food now. $19 for 2 meatballs laying in tomato paste....and they were not even room temperature. Felt like they had these already prepared and sitting somewhere, just waiting for the next guest to order them. Got a mojito that may have been mistaken for a "virgin" drink....cause no one at our table could taste any alcohol in it. They all said it was watered down mint with ice. I wish this place would go back 10 years and make it like "the spot you want to go to"....versus the spot you now avoid.

I couldn't deceive on hot or cold coffee or cold brew and he brought me a sample of the cold brew with oat milk which I decided would be perfect. The done noodles salad was very flavorful, the ginger on top was a little hard to chew but the plant based vegan chicken was a great cutlet very savory. We will definitely return again.

You can make a reservation on OpenTable. We sat in the main dining room. The interior has a cozy feel and good vibe, with music playing in the background at a medium level. We happened to visit on Sunday which is Greek Night. In addition to the main food and drink menu, there is an additional food and cocktail menu with Greek inspired items. We decided to share the Kleo-tini (gin, basil, Kleos mastiha, olive bitters, $14) with a Greek spirit you will probably rarely see. It was a healthy pour in what seemed like a slightly oversized martini glass. It was very good, and definitely had a unique botanical/herbal flavor unlike any I've tasted before. We started out with the zucchini chips ($16) from the Greek menu. They were thin-cut, had a light breading brading on them, with a sprinkle of I believe oregano on top. It was a good portion, and we enjoyed the zatziki sauce for dipping. For my entrée, I had the lemon herb grilled chicken (marinated organic Mary's chicken, julienne vegetables, roasted potatoes, lemon beurre blanc, $30). It was a surprisingly large piece of chicken with a nice crisp on the skin, and was smothered in that great lemon butter sauce. The chicken was nice and moist. The veggies were good, and I only had a few of the potatoes because I was stuffed. She had the grilled Scottish salmon (wild caught salmon, dill mustard buerre blanc, sautéed spinach, whipped potatoes, $36). It came with a good sized piece of fish with lots of butter sauce on top. The spinach and potatoes were also good, and she enjoyed the entrée. Our server Carolyn was friendly and provided good service. We enjoyed everything here, and the menu has a wide variety of items. Unfortunately, my salmon was served raw in the middle. I had to send it back, and by that point, I had completely lost my appetite, which was disappointing. My mom ordered the Asian chicken salad. It was perfectly fine, but neither of us felt like it was anything particularly special or memorable. Overall, I really wanted to love this place, especially given how excited I was to finally try it. The atmosphere and service were great, but unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the expectations I had going in. Maybe it was just an off day, but for the prices, I expected a little more.

This is a average to good place for breakfast. Tried the 3 most popular dishes - Eggs Benedict, The Californian Omelette, and the Fantastic French Toast (sourdough). The Eggs Benedict are good, and that's because the eggs are cooked just right. When you cut the egg in half, you can just see the yolk slowly oozing out of the egg. And when you take a bite, you'll notice that the flavor of the ham complements the eggs well, giving you a blend of balanced flavors. $12-$13 The Californian Omelette was good too. I was a little disappointed because my omelette was a little overcooked. But the pork in the omelette was good. $12-$13 The Fantastic French Toast (Sourdough) wasn't too good. But that's probably because it was sourdough. The other types of bread like wheat look like it'd taste better. $8 And the orange juice was great in that it was fresh squeezed, but what we got really weren't the best oranges that got squeezed. They were "ok" oranges...seemed like they weren't the best oranges out of the batch. And it was $5 a glass. not worth it. Overall, I'd say most of what I've tried is a little above average, with a couple of disappointments, while the prices are a little high. 3 stars. read more

Went here on a Friday morning at around 10:30. My friend and I were seated immediately. I called for a reservation but the lady told me it's first come first serve. Restaurant looks like a typical house from outside and has a very cozy feeling that comes along with it. Received our food within 10 minutes. Had the eggs benedict with the special potatoes. Delicious except for the potatoes. I personally love plain, crispy hash browns and was surprised they didn't have it. The potatoes had the skins, mixed with onions and bellpeppers. I barely chewed down my frist bite. Not my type but obviously others like it. My friend had the hevos rancheras (breakfast item) or something like that. She liked it. Thought the tortilla under should have been crispy but finished the entire meal. Friendly staff. Refilled coffee all the time and checked on how we were doing twice within 30 minutes. Overall crowd is elderly. Parking can be found but not easily. Would not mind coming back. read more

THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE PLACE. OMG. WOW. I LOVE YOU GUYS!! My bestie brought me here for lunch on Monday. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside. Of course we had some wine, which was quite refreshing. We split the Cordierra Salad. THAT SALAD IS THE BOMB.COM I could totally eat it every day. There was not a scrap of lettuce left behind on that plate, when we were done. We also split a sandwich, that was on the special board but I can not remember the name of it. All I know is it was delicious. Once we were done, we were like hey, we should order the same thing over, to go, because it was sooooo goood. The servers were friendly and fast. The place was clean and cozy. The chairs were comfortable, the ambience was just perfect. I would TOTALLY recommend stopping in. I'd heard for years about Martson's french toast. Marston's is a well known breakfast and brunch spot that I'd heard about for years, but never managed to get to. Hubby and I finally did. The french toast starts with thick slices of sourdough bread that's dipped in egg, then rolled in cornflakes before it is fried. The portions are huge, the bacon crispy, and the fruit very fresh. But the french toast tasted like it had been cooked in oil that had previously fried fish. It was quite unpleasant. The coffee was ok. My brother enjoyed his omelet and said the fried potatoes were done just right. His meal was also huge. Given that Martson's is known for the french toast - I found it disappointing. OMG! Yummy place for breakfast. The French toast is to die for. Me being from New Orleans near the French quarter takes me back home! Kinda reminds me of the French beignets! Also the sausage is very tasty! I have to worn you on refilling the coffee, it's addicting, and by the 3rd cup, I became jittery and super talkative! Haha! You don't have to eat a whole lot to be filled. Parking is not the best there, but hey that's almost everywhere in Pasadena. This place gets super busy during the weekends. My suggestion is to come during off days like a Tuesday or Thursday before 10am for breakfast. Also the secret is to park at the meter in front which is free before 10am! Oops not a secret anymore! Having breakfast in the patio is a very warm welcome to a new day. I was glad that their server is very polite too. It was a really decent greeting of another day. The food came and everything was still perfect. Then came this woman. I am not sure if she is a waiter because she has a different outfit. Maybe she was late for work. She came to our table and rambled some unpleasant morning remarks, not a greeting at all. Then asked if we need some more, say water. My mouth was still full so I wasn't able to answer her promptly. Insanely fast service. However, the line is quite long, especially on the weekend. Never an empty coffee cup or water glass. If you like your coffee the right color and cream/coffee ratio, put a saucer on the cup, if you look away for a moment, someone will top off your coffee cup without you ever knowing it. The food is decent, but pricey... It is nice when you want something quick. I love all of the decorations on the walls. It makes everything so homey. read more

The place is very crowded and that is because of the small space, but we were right next to other table which I could hear everything they were saying. The food was expensive and not that good. I think Lovebirds does a much better job with their omelette's. There was no improvements since the last time I was there, so 3 stars is enough. You just really appreciate if a restaurant serves and uncomplicated items on the menu. So I ordered sandwich and a soup just to fill my stomach. I only had a light lunch as I try to watch out my calorie intake. Then the bill arrived and it really shocked me. I couldn't believe I was paying that amount for the stuff I ordered. The outside patio of this place is very cool. Perfect for breakfast. It feels like a breakfast in England or in Paris. Then when you have the French toast as this place is popular for, you'd really get awake for thinking hard what made people think the French toast was cool. One drawback is the wait (sometimes 20-30 minutes on a Sunday morning), but that's to be expected with such a busy place. Due to the Covid restrictions in Pasadena, the hotel I was staying in did not offer a breakfast that I found adequate. Luckily, I found Marston's was only a short walk away. They offered dine-in, porch tables, or take-out. The food was wonderful and I will certainly avail myself of their services when I am back in the area. Highly recommend! read more

I needed the holder of lamb, that was prepared flawlessly and was along with a rejuvenating frisee greens with goat cheeses. I recently had the great fortune of having a baby shower hosted for me at Kathleen's, and it was the perfect venue for it! Kathleen and her team warmly welcomed us into the private room next to the main dining area. They had prepared a wonderful menu for the party to select from and throughout the afternoon floated in and out refreshing everyone's drinks. We learned that a lot of the dishes were based on family recipes, which only added to the charm! They brought out the most incredible broccoli soup to start off with--rich, creamy, textured, perfectly salted, and paired with the best bread! They also gave us some slices of their pumpkin-walnut bread, which we could have eaten a loaf of! Everyone loved their respective entrees, which all were huge portion sizes. I thoroughly enjoyed the charbroiled burger topped with avocado, bacon, swiss cheese, tomatoes, white onions, and thousand island sauce with a flavorful dill pickle and a delicious side of refreshingly crisp and slightly sweet cole slaw. The Tuna Marco was a huge hit as well-- a delightful tuna salad, with tomato, lettuce, and swiss cheese on a soft, buttery croissant. My partner also raved about the Salmon Salad, which featured perfectly cooked, fresh, succulent charbroiled salmon atop a bed of mixed greens, tomatoes, capers, and onions, drizzled with a bright balsamic vinaigrette. Our discerning toddler also did a happy dance and ate a surprisingly large portion of her kids meal bean and rice burrito with a side of rice. Then for dessert, we had an entire chocolate velvet cream cake, which was four layers of heaven. This dessert was light, not too sweet, and really hit the spot. I could eat that every night! All around, I couldn't have asked for a better baby shower. Many thanks to Kathleen and her team for making it such a special afternoon. Can't wait to return with another little one in tow soon to try out other dishes and bring home some more baked goods and desserts!

About 2/3 into our meal, a sweet server came and brought a fly/bug fan to help with the flies. I definitely think Emmi's is geared more for 1-3 people and for coffee, pastries, and maybe the avocado toast.
