It was my first time going to Marston's this weekend. We met up with some friends for a late brunch and there was no line. We arrived at noon on a Saturday morning and we're seated immediately in the patio area. It's a very cute tiny little brunch spot that also serves lunch. I was still craving breakfast food, so I ended up getting the veggie omelette with hash browns and a side of English muffins. Service was good, the food came out warm and I devoured my omelette. Parking was kind of small, but we got lucky as someone was leaving when we arrived. I would come back here given the opportunity. Such a wonderful experience during my visit to Marston's. We were looking for a breakfast spot close to our hotel and stumbled upon a hidden gem. Came here for a quick breakfast for lunch on a Thursday at 1:00 p.m. it was quick service in and out and delicious. It was pretty no nonsense and got to the point. The menu was extensive but the French toast was supreme. The staff was super nice and quick. They have their own little parking lot which is nice too. Definitely one of the most popular breakfast restaurants in all of Pasadena. It's very laid-back and you feel as if you are eating inside someone's home. The wait times are never as long here as some other restaurants close by but also it's not the best option in town. Russell's, a few blocks away, is the best breakfast in Pasadena in my opinion, but Marston's is still worth visiting. They have an extremely tiny and narrow parking lot with free parking otherwise it will be street parking. They have a fairly large menu filled with a lot of good options and our server was very polite. Inside is not very large and just has table seating, there is not a counter. The food here is good, but not great. For my first visit I chose the special - Crab Cake Benedict and thought it was just OK. The crabcakes did not have as much flavor as I had recently and I really did not enjoy the side of potatoes. I would suggest offering hashbrowns instead. I also felt it was a bit overpriced for what we got in return and honestly I don't think I would visit again given the other breakfast options close by. read more

I'm sorry to write this review because the service was great and the ambience was cozy. But this place is totally overrated. It's an old-school diner that charges gourmet prices for just OK diner food. We tried their "Fantastic" French Toast (their name for it, not mine). It's crispy because of cornflakes, which is a cool idea, but it's very dry and with berries it costs about $20. I've had way better French toast all over LA for that price. On top of the overpriced food, they also charge a 3% credit card fee. And then wait for it... they calculate sales tax on TOP of the new total. (Look closely at your bill before and after paying with a credit card: the sales tax increases!) Why should you pay sales tax on their 3% CC fee?? The state of California doesn't require it, so I wonder what do they do with all the extra tax they are collecting? Honestly, if this was a casual cash-only joint with CHEAP comfort food, I wouldn't be upset. That berry French toast would be fine at $10-12. But if you're going to charge like a fancy LA establishment (coffee was over $5), then your food needs to be a lot better. And btw, those fancy places don't charge extra fees and extra sales tax just for using a credit card. They factor it into their already high prices. The two stars are for the kind servers. read more

This diner felt very homey and welcoming. The staff are friendly and there's plenty of tables for such a small place. There's plenty of outdoor tables as well. They give very generous portions. I wanted to order an entree with pancakes on the side but the entree was more than enough for me. I struggled to even eat one pancake and I thought I was a big eater. The food tastes delicious and everything is warm/hot right out the kitchen. None of my eggs or meat was burnt, it was all cooked just right. Their omelet's are quite wide and thick (packed!). You get toast on the side as well. The only major flaw of this place was the parking. The parking lot is very small so it's usually full. If you get in and can't find a spot, it's a pain to get out since there's not much room to maneuver. I ended up paying for parking at a cheap parking lot just down the street. read more

Typical breakfast / diner food. I had the macadamia pancakes, added bananas. It was literally just pancakes, with crumbled macadamia nuts on top lol nothing special! It was still tasty, and the coffee was good. I highly recommend asking for your potato's to be extra crispy. They'll do it, and it's delicious! We came in at about 12:30 on a Monday, and there was no wait. We also found parking right out front. The waitstaff was attentive and nice overall.
