I never heard of this cafe before until my daughter saw it on the social media. They have amazing Indonesian desserts options for all of you to try. We opt to get the one with chocolate and cheese. It was perfectly sweetened and perfect for snack with coffee and tea. They also have variety of Indonesian snacks, drinks and spices you can purchase. It is suggested to order ahead before arriving at the cafe and we did just that. Friendly staff and great service. Ambiance is nice and clean. They have tables outside so you can eat your delicious fluffy sweet Martabak. I will definitely be back in the future to get other flavor of Martabak cake.

Best martabak manis (Indo thick pancake) in LA (I would challenge if there is anything better in the U.S.). They have different selection on the menu but going for the trifecta (chocolate/peanut/cheese or chocolate/peanut or pandan flavor) could go no wrong. About $25 a pie. Go for it. Be sure to call and reserve for your order a day earlier.

What a hidden gem! The special bread was delicious and fresh. I have never had anything like it - the pairing of chocolate, cheese and peanuts was amazing. Several coworkers told me about this place to try as I wanted to support locally owned API business during May. The only down part is you need to order it ahead of time. I went in at 4pm when they re-opened and the man told me to come back in at 6pm for pick up.

IYKYK! Martabak or appam balik is a delightful Indonesian/Malaysian treat. I've had it in Malaysia but have never come across them here in US before. So when I read about this shop through Tejal Rao of LA Times Food, I knew I had to go check it out. Call ahead as they are made to order. And whatever you do, don't wait until you get home to eat that first slice. You won't regret it!

Always delicious . I made the order 4 days prior before I am coming . They open the cafe late like 4.10pm and i had to wait 30 more mins before my order bot even make yet

After eyeing this place for a few months, I finally had time to stop by for the first time and omg, it is so good. Definitely lives up to the hype. Like previous reviews mentioned: remember to call and order ahead. I called right when they opened and was able to pick it up by the end of the day. I got the number 1 and the whole thing came out to $26.23 for 8 pieces including tax. Which seems pricey but it breaks down to about $3.20 per piece. So good

Serious good indonesian dessert! I love their martabak. They have different flavors according to your taste buds.

My gf has been wanting to try this place for a while now, but it's been on her list of things to try for several years now and I didn't get to try it until yesterday. She told me it's about $18 bucks, but when I got there, I told her how much it was, she was shocked (so was I). I ordered the Pandan Nutella Banana Cheese Martabak came out to $25 + $1.00 additional for Pandan. The total came out to about $28.50 including tax. From looking at other menu pictures, I see that in the past 4 years, the prices have gone up over 30%. It sucks because people's wages did not go up 30+%, while food costs have gone up so much. It's a shame. Anyway, back to the martabak review, the taste is good, I can't say I "love it", but it was good. I like cheese, but I can live without it in the one I tried--I'll keep cheese toppings to more savory dishes, and keep sweet toppings on desserts. I wish they sold single slices of it versus a whole cake of 8 slices because now I have 6 slices that most likely will be wasted, and if not wasted, it won't be as fresh when I attempt to eat the other slices later. I didn't give it a 5-star because this is my first time having it, and I haven't tried another martabak to compare. Also, if there is a next time, I'll have to order one with different toppings and more people to split it with. The location itself was organized and clean. The chef was nice and helpful. My gf told me that I should call before I go, and I didn't understand. I thought I could show up and buy a cake, but it's a good thing I called ahead. The chef told me, it's like ordering pizza, call ahead, and I'll make it. This way, you don't have to wait. Good thing my gf gave me that heads up. Chef said that on weekends, the wait goes into the hours, so it's better to order 1 to 2 hours ahead, or even the day before if you're trying to get some on the weekends. Lucky for me, I called in, and it was ready in 20 minutes for pick up.

THIS UPDATE REVIEW IS IMPORTANT TO BE SHARED - ESPECIALLY TO NEW CUSTOMERS: I'm not going to repeat about how great are the Martabaks in this review, again. Because they ARE & SOOO WORTH IT, although... its-kind-of-hard-to-get BTW, They take debit/credit card payments now! My BFF and I, had been craving for Martabak! So, we were calling soooo many times on Friday to order, no body picked up. Found out that they were closed! We were kind of in "panicky mode" to be honest! Haha Yesterday, a bit after opening hours, finally able to talk to the owner.. Yayyy!! We were informed: If one tries to call a few times and no one picked up the phone, it means they are closed for the day! So.. there's no need to try over and over again like we did Good to know! LOL While we were there, a lady was picking up 10 Martabak! Then it was our turn.. we ordered 4 Martabak (2 pandan 2 regular). Two other ladies came in after us to pick up their orders as well! Wow... still so busy at 4 pm! When we were waiting for our orders, there were a few girls came in and tried to order some Martabak to go.. only to find out that was not doable! They left... then returned to try to order again for tomorrow (sunday) but too bad.. this place close on Sunday! They were dissapointed. I told them.. that's okay.. it will be so worth it later We explained to them, they MUST order prior to the pick up day. Because they put customers on the list & no extra batter were made for walk in customers. This is good to know! It means everything is made fresh to order every day and not pre made in big batch! I placed my order a bit after 11, I was told to pick up my orders at 4 PM. So.. new customers.. don't go and think to order there for to-go.. it won't work! Especially if you live far away and had to drive all the way there to get the GOOD STUFF! This time, I asked for Pandan Martabak with Cashew & Cheese with less butter (to ease up my guilt LOL) It was soooo worth our almost 2 hour drive there! I remembered to take the pics of the entire Martabak . But, I don't have the pictures from my BFF of the three Martabaks she ordered LOL

2024 Update! The martabak here is simply amazing! It also helps a lot that it's basically the only place nearby that even sells it. I haven't been able to find any other restaurant or business that makes them. These are well-made too! It's rich, buttery, and delicious. I really need to try just their sweetcorn and cheese next time. Just as a warning, CALL YOUR ORDER IN before going. As far as I know, they don't allow walk-in orders because it does take around 15 minutes to make one depending on if they have other orders already or not. They have a large variety of combos and even if you don't find one they have, you might be able to ask for specific ones or to take out a specific one you don't like! The price is worth it. I would keep coming here every day if it wouldn't be such a heart stopper to eat one each day Honestly, I highly recommend this place and martabak to people!

Place was clean, service was okay and the wait wasn't too long, 30mins for 2 martabak. I love the Pandan Durian Cheese, i wish they put more durian in it. lol. I will be back to try their cendol durian!

OMG, THIS PLACE IS BOMB.COM. If you Indonesian, there is no introduction needed. For those that are not Indonesian, it is Indonesian crepes, but with the thickness of pancake. Just imagine two juicy pancakes are together and in the middle there is sweet of your choice (I have the video showing it). Me and wife got the special (chocolate, peanut cheese) which is how most people eat Martabak in Indonesia. We also got NBC (Nutella, banana, cheese) and Nutella toblerone. You guys need to try it. If you love sweet and juicy sweet, THIS IS THE ONE BABY! For ordering, they suggest TO CALL AHEAD! Sometimes that got so busy that everything will be ready in 1 - 2 hours. So if you know you can be in the store between those hours, make the phone call. They close at 7 PM, so please call before 5 PM (evening pickup) or call around noon (afternoon pickup). There will be time they run out of dough and sweet to make martabak because they make a lot, so call as soon as you can. Also THEY CLOSE FROM SUNDAY - TUESDAY. If you want the drinks, definitely come earlier. Me and my wife came to pick up the martabak at 6ish and they do not have the ingredients to make the drink anymore lol so come as early as you can if you want the drinks also The product in the store have really good prices. I am from Arizona and some of the product (like sambal) are cheaper there, which is surprising. They have kerupuk, sweets, and snacks from Indonesia also with good prices. The store is clean and welcoming. If you come early and want to eat the martabak there, they have table and chair in the patio. Come over and try it guys!

It's soooo good but I know how much calories in one order. I would still eat it on my cheat day thou.

Ask the Community - Martabak Cafe

Do they allow to dine-in, or is it still on takeout?

    Do they serve halal meat?

This place serves sweet martabak (Indonesian pancakes) and does not serve meat.

    Cash only? Accept cards?

    Accept both

Do you sell Martabak in slices? Menu prices seem to be in whole. Do we have to pre-order? We'd like to try various flavors if possible.

Only whole. My recommendation is to get the one you wanna try the most for the first visit.

Do they do custom filling like peanuts, butter/margarine and sugar only?

    I believe so 👍

    Are they open today?

Sunday - Monday- Tuesday are closed We drove about 30 minutes to that shop just to find out the store is close 😜

Do they ship out to the Bay Area?

    Probably not

It's hard to find Indonesian places in the US, though luckily it's a bit more common in California. For ambiance, this is actually a place I prefer to get my food to go. It's a little busy on the weekends when I have time to go, and it's a bit of a tight squeeze inside. Think of like the inside of a gas station or 7/11 with some tables squeezed inside. Not my fave to sit in, but the food is pretty good. I've gotten the Nasi Goreng Ayam (chicken friend rice), Nasi Goreng Kambing (lamb fried rice), Risoles, and Soto Ayam Kuning. Chicken friend rice is def good, especially when you add some of the red sambal they give you (an asian spicy hot sauce), but not totally authentic with how they serve it Indonesian style. The gooeyness of the yolk mixed in the rice is part of what makes it so yummy. But still good the way they make it. Same for the lamb fried rice, but again still good. Just wish it had the over easy egg. Between the two, loved the chicken fried rice more than the lamb. The risoles could have been cooked longer, but I'm basing this off of my Oma's recipes, so maybe I'm being a little biased here. Still very good though - just a bit too wet (if that makes sense) when biting inside. The Soto Ayam Kuning was actually the best. Again, not exactly like my Oma's recipe so I'm a bit biased once again, but it was delicious in its own way. The mix of egg, vermicelli noodles, rice, friend onions, and veggies made it at least reminiscent of my Oma's recipe and it was delicious still even if it wasn't exactly like me Oma's (yes, I get that's a hard thing to reach to). Would def order again. Overall, love this place for some yummy Indonesian food to-go or via DoorDash. Ps. when I'm inside I always buy some Indonesian snacks in the "gas station side" of the restaurant like krupuk (shrimp crackers) and sambal.

The staff also wears gloves when handling food. There are some hand sanitizers available for customers to use. This place is available for take outs and has some indoor seating available with limited capacity. They are sanitizing / cleaning in between customers. I mention these things in my reviews for the sake of protecting immunocompromised people like the elderly and people sick with cancer and other illnesses. COVID-19 Vaccination Proof: This establishment currently does not require proof of vaccination. While I was grabbing my food from this establishment, I asked if they had any special offers and they weren't offering any at the moment. They currently don't have happy hour. They also do not allow pets in their establishment UNLESS it's a service animal. Parking: The parking lot for this establishment is pretty big since they share a parking lot with many other establishments. The parking spot sizes vary depending on where you park. There shouldn't be any issues finding a spot. Food: I ordered an Indonesian fried rice and pork satay skewers with rice. The Indonesian fried rice was really delicious. The Indonesian fried rice had some greens, eggs, garlic, dried shallots, dried onions, raw onions, green onion, chicken, and meatball. All cooked to perfection. There were a good amount of chicken and meatballs in the dish. Both were soft, juicy, tender, and full of flavors. I love that the hot rice was slightly crunchy. It reminded me of eating rice from a hot stone bowl. For the pork satay skewers, I was lowkey disappointed that they didn't have lamb this time. I originally ordered lamb satay skewers, but they told me they didn't have it so they asked me to order a different satay skewer. I opted for pork satay skewers. This dish normally comes with rice cakes, but I'm not a fan of the texture of rice cakes, so I asked them to give me plain white rice instead. They happily obliged and gave me a bowl of white hot and steaming white rice along with 5 pork satay skewers. The marinade for the pork satay skewers had hints of garlic, lemon, honey, sweet soy sauce, and peanut sauce. An extremely delicious marinade for the pork satay skewers. The grilled pork itself was very aromatic, tender, juicy, and flavorful. So incredibly umami! A good portion for the price point for both dishes. I do agree with other Yelpers that I felt extremely thirsty after eating both dishes. Perhaps they need to tone it down a bit on the MSG. Staff: The staff here are very friendly, happy, welcoming, and helpful. They accept both cash and credit cards. There is no credit card minimum. Also, right when you walk into the restaurant, there is a very cute and small market. You can get some delicious Indonesian snacks and other things while you wait for your food. I highly recommend coming here and giving this lovely mom and pop Indonesian restaurant a try. Sooooo fricken good!

We started with the Roti Paratha, which arrived warm and flaky alongside a rich curry dipping sauce. For shared plates, we ordered the Bali Sea Bass and Stir Fry Water Spinach. The sea bass was beautifully prepared with layers of spice and aromatics, plus just enough heat to keep every bite interesting. The water spinach arrived sizzling at the table, adding to the experience and making the dish feel fresh from the wok. For noodles, my son ordered his usual favorite, the Mie Tek Tek, while my daughter chose the Mie Ayam, which she thoroughly enjoyed. To drink, we had white wine, Terra beer, and a Thai iced tea that came with a cute presentation. There was a small hiccup when our beverages were forgotten, but the staff handled it well and kindly comped our appetizer, which we appreciated.

I wish they had more than just wine for alcohol, but not a big deal. The best ambience is inside as the outdoor options are just in the parking lot, but inside is cool and interesting.

They have an extensive menu as they serve both Thai and Indonesian food. I would say maybe some dishes are even beyond that extending to other southeast Asian regions. I ordered a beef curry soup/stew dish. It was delicious and comforting. It comes with rice and shrimp chips. My partner ordered seafood fried rice and this was surprisingly good as well. Our party ordered so many different dishes and the restaurant still delivered. Normally I avoid restaurants with too long of a menu because I feel like they're doing too much, but this one somehow pulls it off. They also have southeast Asian snacks and foods for sale on the side too, making it feel like a mini grocery store too. We came cold and starving so I'm glad the food came out quick and piping hot. Parking is plentiful. I'd definitely return when I'm craving authentic Indonesian/Thai/Malaysian food.

It was a cross between Thai and Indonesian. So the curry was confusing. Come here with an open mind that it's not your typical Thai place. But good, nonetheless! The papaya salad was delicious with good fish sauce. It's clean and plenty of parking. I will be back. Bon appetit
