We had stopped by here for ice cream before, but tonight was our first time eating dinner. Based on the food we had, along with the menu options, we'll be coming back to try breakfast and lunch as well! The food was fantastic. My son and I each had the Breakfast Burger (which included an egg and bacon on it, and was definitely more of a dinner!). When I asked the waitress if there were options for how it was cooked, she said it was a "smash burger" with two smaller patties. I hadn't heard of a smash burger, but another way of describing it would have been "it's what Five Guys makes" - it was awesome! My wife had the Avocado BLT, which was also great. Oh, and we started with wings - some of the best we've had in a while. I don't know why it's gotten harder to find good wings over the last few years, but it has. Martha's wings were a great find during our "wing drought" We were too full for ice cream after dinner, so three of us took five pints home for when we recover! The restaurant has a definite 50s/60s feel to it. It was very quaint and low key. I imagine when it gets crowded, there's a good old-fashioned bustle to it. It's really nice to have a place like Martha's in a small town like Arbutus. It is definitely worth the trip from wherever you might normally dine. read more

After picking me up from the airport on Wednesday, knowing I was hungry my friend took me here. I ordered a cheeseburger and my friend had a chicken wrap. First the roll fell apart and secondly the burger was way to done. My friends chicken wrap was also too done. Neither one of us were able to eat our food. Not worth it at all. Had a great meal today at Martha's Cafe in Arbutus, MD. My avocado toast ($11) had tons of bacon on it and came hot and fresh. I probably should have asked for my egg to be a little firmer; it came sunny side up, just as described. My lunch partner had chili and reported that it wasn't too spicy, just like she likes it. Fresh hot coffee by a friendly wait person. Loads of parking along the street. The decor is clean and fresh, not heavily decorated. Check out the lovely ceiling tiles. Lots of booths and tables. Two clean gender-neutral bathrooms. There are two steps into the main door; I didn't see a handicap entrance. I didn't even know that Arbutus had a movie theatre - it's just next door. Give it a try for a casual, friendly, local meal, only a few miles from the Guinness Brewery. read more

We had a group of 30 the other evening and it was fantastic. Each dish was prepared fresh and served gracefully and with care. We were served with a smile and so very professional...including the owner serving us also. The staff worked hard and diligently, yet never did we see a rushed face or hear a complaint. Many of our group ordered their favorite menu items and we all admired the presentation and size. There were so many menu items selected by our many friends, that I had the opportunity to see menu items I had never ordered. The Monte Christo sandwich was one that I borrowed from my friend and showed it to others nearby....it was so huge and gorgeous. Someone had chicken and waflle...the Belgian waffle was beautiful with a huge piece of friend chicken on it. The meat loaf is my favorite and with 2 sides, I can not eat it all. The delicious mac & cheese goes home for another day and I enjoyed the fresh garden salad side with my meal. My husband had the chicken pot pie and with 2 biscuits, he too could not eat it all. The cream of crab soup was a big hit with many of the people in the group and even the chili was full of beans and vegetables...again a huge portion. No room for desserts...yet a great selection with the ice cream being the most attractive. I have always enjoyed the garden omelet, the breakfast meal and the meat loaf....so next time I go to Martha's Cafe, I will try something else. What a gem! A group of 6 feasted last evening at Martha's Cafe, and we loved our food! From the breakfast for dinner, to burgers, to wonderful sandwiches and dinner, it was a hit from beginning to end. And about the end -- the ice cream was amazingly delicious! The quality of ingredients is there, but they don't know how to cook it. For $16 I received 2 undercooked eggs, toast, and burned bacon. The coffee also left much to be desired, it was old burned and undrinkable and had to be sent back in exchange for a water. Add to that the service being subpar and from someone who just doesn't want to be there, it was a terrible experience and I don't think I will ever be back. Edit: I appreciate the quick response. I used to go to this restaurant a lot when it was Paul's. Paul's was a fixture in Arbutus forever and a nice homey neighborhood diner. I was hoping Martha's was at least similar. Sadly it's not. My waitress seemed overwhelmed and annoyed by me and my family. At times she was borderline rude. I was hoping the new owners were going to carry on a tradition of the home style feel Paul's had for decades an unfortunately it was nothing like that. I felt welcome at Paul's. I felt like a mild annoyance at Martha's. That was my first and last time going there. read more

It was my honor to review Martha's Cafe on Yelp. Here is my review.....and it was great meeting Will and the other staff...both from Paul's and the newer staff. We went to Martha's Cafe today at 10:00 a.m. we had the choice of the entire menu. I had "Martha's Breakfast Plate" with scrambled eggs and bacon and toast with maple butter. It was scrumptious! My friend had the "Berry French Toast" with chantilly cream and it was loaded with berries. What a delight! The food was delicious and it was great meeting Will, the owner, a local resident who is also a member of the Greater Arbutus Business Association (GABA). The prices were excellent as was the quality of the food. Look at their Facebook page for the best photo samples of the two brunch items we had. Their photos were true....not exaggerated at all. The cafe is beautiful and offers booths and tables. The original big Paul's Restaurant booth was also there. The employees from Paul's had been offered the opportunity to work at Rathskeller, the other restaurant, while Martha's Cafe was being constructed. Vicki, Tammy, Phil and even Nicole are employees now at Martha's and it was great seeing them. Martha's Cafe is a must and Arbutus is fortunate to have this new cafe. Hours now are 8 a.m. - 2 p.m. and reservations are welcomed, as are walk-ins. They just opened, and usually opening first few weeks are questionable....Not so here....The service and food quality was above par!!! read more

The space is cute and the staff are friendly. I had the Caesar salad and cream of crab soup. For me, the salad dressing was a little salty. The soup was good. The prices are a bit high. My son had breakfast, I had those two items, and my daughter had a side of mac & cheese and it was over $50. When reviewing, I feel that we should not be comparing to the restaurant that used to be here. It is apples to oranges. I will definitely be back to try more items. sans kids. As a pescatarian, there a limit choices, but it appears that they will be doing a varied pop-up menu at times. read more

I would love to go to Martha's Cafe, unfortunately, I work in downtown Baltimore during the day and cannot make it between their hours of operation. Hoping that as they get things rolling, they will add a dinner service. Everything I have heard and read is positive; alas, I could only make the dinner service. Please do not pay attention to the stars for this review, as I have never eaten here, although I would very much like to do so. I gave them 5 stars based on what I've heard from friends who are retired and are able to go for breakfast or lunch. read more

Hi. Last week we had a family celebration at Martha's Cafe. 10 guests for dinner, 15+ joined for dessert. The evening was PERFECT !!! FOOD WAS FABULOUS !!! Staff could not do enough for our celebration. We were extremely pleased with all that Martha's Cafe has to offer. Prices are very reasonable. I highly suggest any celebration, to reserve your table at Martha's. I was also able to set up a table for the kids. Placed craft paper on table, brought markers, crayons, etc. for the kids to enjoy. Atmosphere was great ... so entertaining for the kids, this allowed the adults to enjoy themselves. Jason, Andrew and Will were awesome. Very patient and understanding with having young children there. Looking forward to our next celebration !!!!!! read more

Had breakfast,arrived 8:00 AM. Had to sit at counter because all booth and tables were reserved ! Left at 9:15, only two couples arrived in that time period. Ask the manager about the reserved tables again, he stated that since they were reserved would not allow random patrons to sit at the tables and booths. Did not have a time for the reservations? The breakfast was OK, I thought the coffee was excellent,but cost 4.00 a cup. The overall bill was slightly high. Compare this with the previous set-up.Did an excellent job in renovations, except to much wasted space. Will probably lose a lot of locals because Keno and lottery tickets not sold.The stools at the counter need pads,very uncomfortable. The owners rehired the waitresses,which is great since they personally know the old patrons. With that said may go back occasionally,but not twice a week as I use too. I,m one of the Keno players.
