I've hemmed and hawed over writing this review and am pretty disappointed that I need to. I've waited over a week for anyone to contact me by email or my friend, who called multiple times. First, I will say that the restaurant was a delightful little spot with delicious food. We came as a group of friends and Martha provided a really thoughtful champagne toast toward the end of our night. We felt so taken care of. I called ahead for reservations and asked if we could split the check by person or if we should all bring cash. Separate checks were fine, I was told. When the time came for our check, our server wouldn't split ours up, claiming he didn't even know what everyone ordered anyway. He proceeded to tell one of us to "pull up her big girl panties," get over it, and pay already. We were shocked, to say the least, after simply asking for a split check. Crummy service is one thing, but belittling comments to a group of women who was having a lovely evening is another. I won't be back, because he made us feel so extraordinarily unwelcome. read more

What a great meal in this sweet place. We had the raclette to start, unique and made with local cheese. The white fish and walleye were so good and freshly prepared. They even had a local father/daughter band on this Monday night. Martha sent over a free dessert for our anniversary celebration. Friendly people and a great experience. read more

Stopped in for an early lunch while vacationing, cute place with outdoor seating when weather permits. Ordered the Happy Rooster which was supposed to come with arugula, which was the main reason for ordering this sandwich. A substation was made as I only found a mix of spring greens. Not a sprig of arugula and no mention from the waitstaff! Rude. Looks like they have been pulling this trick for a while as I see there's a review from 2010 with the same complaint. The proper thing to do if the restaurant is out of something would be to advise the table, not just make substitutions without a mention. Arugula is a very distinct tasting lettuce which can make or break a choice for diners. So diner BEWARE, if you order the Happy Rooster stay happy and ask the server if the have 'Arugula' today? Cause it looks like they won't tell you if they don't. read more

On our last visit to Martha's, my companion and i arrived early one morning and sat down on the patio. One other table was occupied. We sat and watched as three other customers arrived, one per table. We sat and watched as those customers received water glasses and menus. We sat and watched as two servers made numerous trips past our table, determined not to glance our way. Recommendation: save your time and try the 45th Parallel a few blocks south. Delicious food, personable staff, this is not a typical N Michigan menu with dried cherries on a bed of lettuce or basic whitefish. Martha uses locally sourced ingredients and hand crafted, unique entrees. They get very busy during tourist season - if you go eat in July during peak times, any restaurant with a small kitchen may reach their critical mass... This neighborhood gem executes well, even under pressure. Small house serves as the dining room with a quaint patio with covered outside seating. This staff has heart! Highly recommend. read more

Excellent little cafe. Order the raclette made with local cheese. The soups and sandwiches were inventive and hearty, and the cappucino was good too. The room decor was colorful but outdated, It was priced a little higher than the rest of the area and I would stick to groups less than 4. However the food quality was absolutely wonderful which is what matters most to us, and our no-nonsense server was helpful and kind. Recommend it highly! read more

Absolutely fantastic breakfast, so good that we may go back again tomorrow. The coffee is fresh. I got a breakfast burrito which was great. It was big and full of potatoes and had melted cheese on top. My wife got a grilled vegetable, almost skillet, with eggs on top. Vegetables were cooked perfectly and marinated really well. Very charming outside patio. Our waiter Dylan was attentive and personable. We had breakfast and everything was hot and delicious. I had the vege scrambler with sour dough toast. My friends had Andy's avocado toast (had scrambled eggs in addition to the avocado.) The bacon egg sandwich was also good. Our friend who does not like big breakfasts appreciated the1 egg with toast option. It is located right on the Main Street near all of the cute shops. First time dining here and had a wonderful meal and experience! Menu was difficult to choose from with many delicious choices, but opted for the halibut special which was excellent. Creative use of seasonal local foods. Charming outdoor dining area that was welcoming to our dog, too. There isn't much competition in Suttons Bay. A party of four for dinner found a wait staff trying hard to push their opinion of what was good or or pushing what was aging in the refrigerator. Two salmon dishes arrived with a generous slathering of green pesto on top to hide the burned parts. Everything provided as a side dish was cold or an afterthought for the plate. The salad course was gloriously spoken of by the staff, but was simple with rubber tomatoes and sandy salad. The scallop entre also had the same sandy bits and accompanying potato was cold. The fourth entry was clams, muscles and squid ink pasta. This dish was baked so long in the oven or warmed the clams were as hard as marbles and the broth was nothing but hot pasta water. This was an exceptionally bad choice. We have eaten at Martha's several times and have found a definite downturn in the quality and attention to detail in the preparation of food here. We have stopped ordering desserts. They look good, but stick to ice cream down the street. read more

Wonderful concept but very poorly executed. Slow, forgetful, pleasant but seemingly inexperienced waitstaff. All but one in teens or twentys; no one appearing to care about prompt service or accurately filling our simple orders. Kitchen unable to handle 2 orders of poached eggs for us. Yet had only 1/2 tables full. Very disappointing. Comped our breakfast, which we appreciated but would have preferred to have paid for the experience we had anticipated. UPDATE: we've recently gone back, for dinner, at friends' urging. They love Martha's and always go when visiting the area. Our dinner was very nice; we'll go again. Added a star to this. read more

Had a fantastic dinner at Martha's tonight. Got last reservations at last minute on weekend in color season. Fondue for appetizer is fun for sharing. Wife had best whitefish she ever had. Not on menu. Just ask. I had an excellent shrimp andouille pot pie. They specialize in local wines. I had a glass of red, again not on the menu so ask. Desert was a wonderful almond tiramisu. To cap it off, Martha come by our table with two complimentary glasses of port and sits at our table with us for 15 minutes chatting about food and travel. Great night. read more

The BEST restaurant on the Leelanau Peninsula! I've been here with my family three times, and my dining experience was always exceptionally excellent. The food is delicious, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is great. The menu has variety, but each dish feels complete and well rounded. The portions are also perfect! There is a cute outdoor patio with live music, which contributes to the restaurant's fun and welcoming appearance. You definitely don't want to miss out on this great food if you're in the Traverse City area! read more

I liked sitting out on the patio, even though it was a cooler summer morning when I visited. I had a tomato and egg sandwich, with arugula and cheese. Normally, when I see arugula on anything I think "frou frou," but it actually worked in this case. And I don't even really like the stuff. Yummy. I got a side of potatos too, now those were really good (they were cooked with peppers and onions is what was said on the menu, but I didn't taste or see very many of them...though I guess they cook down alot). They gave me some ketchup and hot sauce, but I didn't see who the maker of the hot sauce was (it was good though, more like a tabasco). I just had water to drink, though they do carry what I think is some great tea (light of the day, yay localness). The side orders were all 5$, a little high, but it tasted good so *shrugs.* I'd come again for brunch or breakfast, I saw some really pretty pancakes on someone else's plate. They do serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Open 8-3 for breakfast/brunch/lunch, I didn't notice the dinner hours. read more

I came to town for floatilla and I took my three kids to breakfast. My kids were upset when they noticed no pancakes on menu. When the waitress came to take our order she said they could make them pancakes. When I got my bill it was $60! Three pancakes with bacon, three OJ's and I ordered a bacon and egg sandwich with coffee. Wow read more

Stopped in this summer without a reservation. They were able to accommodate us if we were willing to wait a bit. Food and service was fantastic. Our server was friendly and helpful, made many suggestions re wine pairings, and Martha came out of the kitchen and chatted with us, which we also enjoyed. When we stay in Suttons Bay, Martha's is usually our first choice for breakfast. We love the fact that so many menu items are sourced locally, and that the menu tells us where the ingredients come from. We love -- well, everything on the breakfast menu!;-) (The pancakes and breakfast potatoes are two of our favorites, and we also love the local cherry-pecan breakfast sausage.) We have also had a very lovely dinner at Martha's -- they have a limited dinner service during the tourist season, with interesting menus that, again, showcase local foods when possible. And -- even if you just need a coffee and nosh during the day, Martha's has a variety of pastries, and pleasant seating inside and out. We enjoy the changing gallery of local artwork, and the cozy atmosphere of the interior. read more

I'd heard much about Martha's Table and wanted to love it. The place is charming and the menu was very tempting. However, both the service and the food fell a little short. Our waiter clearly wasn't clued into what we were looking for when we talked as a table about mimosas and said we wanted sparkling wine all around, but 3 with oragne juice. He brought our bottle of sparkling wine and 3 gigantic glasses of OJ. I was excited about my order, the Happy Rooster. But when it arrived, the eggs were pretty badly overcooked and what was advertised as arugula came out spring greens. A small detail, but I was looking forward to the bitter contrast. I'll definitely return and give the Table another chance to impress, as I suspect it might. read more

My wife had the land of delight sandwich. the Cherry bread was excellent and the turkey and dressing was delicious. unfortunately it was little over toasted .I had the special which was the pulled pork sandwich. the bun again was over toasted and the pork a bit dry,it also had slaw on the sandwich with a good flavor but again a bit dry. ....im sorry for the apparent complaining,if in the area we will try again. the flavors were good, the service was great and friendly and we did see quite a great desert case.. read more

Been coming to Martha's since it opened. I ordered the crabby rooster which doesn't come with an egg? So I added a poached egg. It was cold. Didn't have time to wait for another one and the waitress didn't even apologize. Just walked away. My friend asked for two poached eggs and SPECIFICALLY asked for soft centers NOT cooked through. They came out exactly opposite. Hard as rocks. She couldn't eat them. Her food was also cold. Her meal was comped. If your cook can't make eggs correctly and serve the meal hot then you need to find one that can. Very disappointed read more

Just stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by this place. Casual seating in a house-turned restaurant. I had a tomato bisque type soup that was fresh and delicious. The other notable meal at the table was a tuna salad, that was vinegar-based, I think the waitress said mediterranean in style, instead of mayo based. My girlfriend loved it and thought it was a great find and pleasant surprise. Definitely recommend this place if you are in suttons bay. read more

Went for lunch with two teenageers and a mother-in-law for lunch. Very good lunch fare, delicious sandwiches and soups. Portions reasonable and flavors wonderful. Save room for dessert; while all desserts were great (rich homemade chocolate ice cream, dark chocolate fallen angel cake, and seasonal rhubarb cake), the chevre bavarian chiffon cake is TO DIE FOR! Just enough tang to set off the sweet blueberry sauce, and though large, it was light enough that I am embarrassed to admit; I ate the whole thing! Our inquiries to the waitress brought the famous pastry chef Carrie Ballou to our table, a very special treat! Patio seating was intimate and lovely, service was gracious. We will be back! read more

I've had better experiences here in the past, but this morning was a disappointment. I ordered the potato skillet and some bacon. The skillet was bland. Had to keep putting salt on it, which helped a little. My wife's breakfast was luke warm, and according to her it was bland. I tried one of my step mom's cherry sausage links and it was totally bland. Cheap bob evans sausage tastes way better unfortunately. The food was amazing and presentation was very good. The service was disappointing and the sound level was horrible. The staff and owner were catering to an extremely loud table that overtook the whole restaurant. My spouse and I went there for a special anniversary, anticipating a pleasant evening. We were greatly disappointed by the severe lack of attention and how the owner and serving staff did nothing to discourage the loud and obviously, drunken group, from waylaying the dining room. I would give an even lower star rating for our evening there, but this is not par for the course for this restaurant, where we have dined many times before, for breakfast, lunch and dinner and also, because the food was outstanding. read more

We visited Martha's last weekend at the recommendation of a nearby innkeeper and we were delighted! The menu is interesting and diverse and the food is absolutely delicious. We experienced a warm, welcome from Debbie who made our early Sunday dinner outside in the restaurant's patio with our teen daughter a special, intimate dinner. My husband and I both chose the 3-course prix fixe menu because we wanted fish. His white fish filets were prepared in a classic pan seared style while mine were blackened. Both of us "won" with perfectly cooked, moist fish. He had a lightly dressed mixed green salad while I enjoyed a yummy cheddar potato chowder. Dessert was a cherry brioche bread pudding... not to be missed. Our daughter ordered the crab cake entree which was good and we all noshed in their raclette ( warm cheese) appetizer which was excellent. A lovely evening made even more special by live music. The menu is small, but thoughtful and everything was very fresh. Go! read more

Outstanding people, we arrived here at a quarter to three they informed us that they close at 3 and reopen at 5. But despite this they were very hospitable. They took an order for a quick sandwich and a cup of coffee irregardless to the fact they wanted to go home before the dinner crowd came and the dinner hour workers. The food was outstanding and they were happy to allow our puppy dog to sit on the porch with us while we ate. Two thumbs up for this place. read more
